What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 298

If you want to know anything about WOYWW, please click on the two pages shown at the top of this page..one explains it a bit, the other explains how to do it.
If you want to know about my desk...here y'are. I took this at lunchtime on Tuesday because I was in that panic mode where you have to rush around and do everything in case you don't have time to do anything. It's rubbish light, but its the best I've got; this morning is still dark and the flash photo is even worse.
You can see, I've cut into a very nice sheet of scrapbook paper to make a flower. And I don't like it. It needs more than a tweak so am thinking the paper may well need to be put away before I waste any more.  Lovely teeny flower print and totally not showing either the stamped image or itself off enough. Back to rummaging in the paper stack then. I've also been toying with some Pearl Ex as you can see at right..was playing with it on Kraft card - I quite like it.  That's me this week..playing with florals. A flower was my first stamp purchase and will probably be my last, I never met one I didn't really like!
What are you up then? Upload a pic of your crafty work space for us all to see, it will be Ok...no rules about tidy and no judging!

Hello Julia,

Don't give up flowers are beautiful, they really are you will get there. As for the paper I really can't see it the photo isn't the best you have done, sorry for being blunt, I am blinded by the light LOL and cant even zoom in. I hope your week improves.

I'm sure you will figure out your flowers and get then the way you want. I find sometimes embossing on them brings out the stamp better hugs Nikki #1

Morning, Julia. Sorry you don't like that flower now you've done it - doesn't it just happen sometimes? Frustrating, though, as you have cut into that glorious large sheet...
Hope you manage to salvage the situation.
Take care. God bless.

I think your flower looks gorgeous. My eyes were drawn straight to it. I've been squinting up close to try and see why you don't like it but I just can't see why. If you really think it needs something, a bit of bling always sparks things up.
Have a great week,

The paper you've cut the flower from is gorgeous.. hope you get it just how you want! I was already off and visiting desks before I realised I hadn't stopped to leave a comment here, how rude of me!! that must be why you don't get as many comments as link ups which I've noticed happens regularly - come on deskers, leave Julia a comment!!

I can see myself holding really pretty paper and saving it in my stash, never using it, because I don't want to waste it... but now that you've started, you can enjoy the rest too! In paper art few things are really lost for good, you can always add bling or gesso or anything in between!

Hi mrs D your desk does have a rushed ... Frantic look to it today like you just had an idea and had to do it before you forgot what it was .... I get that all the time. Roll with it I say it'll work out. Don't you just hate to waste too pretty to use card too
Have a good week

I have tried flowers too and tend to fall back to sizzix dies as they cut it all for me (and minimise card waste!). Also bought a large fake hyderanger (so not spelt correctly!) and cut it up to create a whole boxful of flowers (its a couple of posts back on a card I made)-a cheat but a lot easier :-)

Sometimes it happens, blah but it can be changed when we walk away and return. I ponder too long on paper uses also and I'll never use it all, not even a dent. Looks like lovely shades of aqua/blue. Good luck with figuring it out.

A girl can never have enough flowers! I have a drawer full of flower stamps and have my eye on a couple of the new JOFY ones now. It looks like the very hungry catepillar has been munching on your papers!

Flower stamps are great. I also like butterflies. I have to restrain from buying them or else my craft room would be filled with nothing but butterflies and flowers!

Have a lovely week and thanks for the peek at your desk!

Hi Julia
It's a flower on my desk this week. A subject they we will never grow tired of I think.
Tried to comment on your magpie yesterday but Mr Bloggy wouldn't let me. We had a pigeon in our workshop, Philip christened it Pidge. Poor thing only had one leg. Always looked drunk when it walked around
Have a good week.

I know it sometimes feels like a sacrilege to cut into a 12X12" sheet of gorgeous paper. Especially if it turns out it doesn't work with your project. But at the end of the day, that's what it is for. Not for stroking! (I have to keep reminding myself of this too!) Happy WOYWW, Julia! xx

Pearl Ex - something I haven't used in ages. Used to use it a lot on my black polymer clay too. Love the stuff!
Your flower looks pretty from here - what about a bit of deeper blue just tapped on the very tips (and down a bit, just a teeny bit) on each petal - might give it some oomph if that is what is missing. Must say it looks fine from here.
Hugs, Neet xx

Hi Julia, very brave of you. I have lots of lovely papers and find it really difficult to cut into them. I think that's why I make so many of my own Masterboards, if I don't like them I just make another. Have a great week and happy woyww, Angela x 34

Hi Julia, its really irritating cutting into nice paper/card, and then it doesn't do it for us! I have some of those Pearl-ex palettes too. Probably too many for someone of my colouring ability! Hugs, & Love, Shaz xx

My first stamps were flowers as well...and I still have more of those then anything else! I am not sure if that is the rubber stamp makers fault or mine..lol I was using pearl ex powder yesterday also..talk about synchronicity!

Such a Busy desk today (well, yesterday, but as you've been too occupied to change anything, we have to forgive you!).
Could you layer up that stamped flower with another piece of the same paper, maybe stamped with clear "ink" and clear-embossed? You know, so you have an embossed flower on top, with the other one beneath, peeping through the petals - a double bloom? Might look nice?

Thanks for hosting WOYWW again - have a lovely week!

Oh isn't it annoying when you can't get the 'look' you want for something. How about some glitter?
I must admit that I always die cut flowers. I have several different one. So I don't waste any paper. I seem to be so precious about my paper! lol. And I really have loads of paper.....

Thanks for stopping by earlier,
God bless,

I'm going to diecut some flowers today and run them through some embossing folders too. We are snowed in here in the Ozarks, and even my office is closed today so I can play and organize things in my crafty room on a Wednesday. I'm so happy! I think it's only fitting that when it's this cold outside, we are making flowers inside. Hugs! Sandy Leigh

I spent a lot of time looking at what I think may be your pearl ex. ( is that the pallet off to the right?) funny, mine are all individual little jars. and then I have a jar of just the binder so. I am guessing yours have a binder in them already. cool. the flower will come to you. and its just paper. ( unless its really old you can buy another sheet right? :) have fun! ~Stacy #70

Sometimes you start something and think it will really be/look nice, and then it doesn't - and sometime you work on something that you think will end up in the waste-bin, and it turns out fantastic... I know how that is! Just keep on playing, you will know what fits on the page when you see it! Happy, much belated, woyww Julia! Marit #39
