A domestic, everyday report..

I made a passing reference to having a horse in my lounge room and there were expressions of:
surprise
incredulity
cynicism
and I cannot apportion blame.  I can hardly believe it myself.  I don't know if you remember the ladder-in-the-garden story? WOYWW 138 and 139 will fill you in if you're interested.  Let me summarise. The love of my life, Mr Dunnit, is pathologically untidy. He doesn't see it.  It's not malicious and it's certainly not because he's lazy, nothing could be further from the truth.  He just doesn't see it.  And if something's just sitting there, apparently not in the way and doing or coming to no harm, it works for him. Which is why there's a horse behind my armchair.

I'm joining with Elizabeth for T stands for Tuesday to bring you this tale of domestic bliss.  As long as it features your beverage of choice, it qualifies.  Note the large out of focus mug of coffee.  It's on a little 'shelf' that Mr D made for me so that I can write, type etc from my armchair..I'm aware of the implications toward idleness, I really am.   So. This little horse is destined to be a rocking horse, but as you can see, it's a work in progress. It was living quietly in the garage, but we needed the garage space for storage of a large number of bespoke doors that we had slaved over to meet a deadline.  Which the builder then extended by 2 months. Naturally, they have to be taken from the workshop to make room to work...26 of them, each weighing about oh, a tonne. Wrap in corrugated card and cling wrap, staple on temporary feet to protect the corners. Carry across workshop, lift into van, transport, lift out of van, carry through to garage.  You get it.  So the garage was emptied of the usual stuff.  If indeed, a filing cabinet and a wooden horse are usual. The bikes and bins went into the garden, but of course the horse has to be at a reasonable and weather proof location. Behind my chair made sense.  And now, it's almost invisible to us.  And the doors?  We delivered them early last week.

That is going to be a gorgeous rocking horse! If you had it out from behind your chair you could call it a piece of art! How I'd love a Rocking Horse like that! Have fun today. Karen x

Now I know 5 little people who would love to see that gorgeous horse in our living room if you ever need extra storage space Julia. :-)
Have a great day,

I am having a good giggle here, I can feel you pain, my hubby, wears ties to work, and he just takes them off when he comes home, and leaves them, drive me mad, I mean they are only ties, but for goodness sake, take them to your room....love this rocking horse and hope you share the finished project xxxx

I remember the horse you showed that Mr. D. made for Miss D., and I read about the horse he was making, then read that it was in your lounge, but now I get to see it myself.

I may not be a child, and my waist may not be as small as it once was, but I bet my bottom would fit on that rocker, if I ever got to see it in person! I'm so LOVING it. Of course, it would NEVER fit on my work desk (grin). In a way, I'm glad Mr. D. has "tunnel vision."

Thanks for showing this beauty and thanks for sharing T today.

Oh my, that is one very beautiful horse and Mr D made it? I am in awe... maybe I would be less in awe if said horse resided behind my armchair... but then, maybe not! That is the thing with 'stuff'... it really does become invisible... until you stub your toe on it!

The mole thing (not techinically a mole and a pain under the boob meant I was unable to wear my underwires and I was on the waiting list in Canada to get it removed and they gave me an appointment for 3 months after we had left the country... then in Scotland my GP said he would sort it... and gave me an appointment 2 weeks after I left the country... here they just cut them out at a weeks notice!!)Yay!

I have to say the horse looks quite comfy there! So I wouldn't be surprised if he has found a new home. Not bad Julia....not bad!

Thanks for the laugh this morning, so fun to read your post. My dear hubby is the same way about the things I leave around the house, just keep it out of the way and all is good. What a beautiful horse it is!
Too bad about the doors, what a job that was, glad they are off to their homes now.
Have a great day!

Lol yep Keagan is the same, he doesn't see it either until I point it out and ask him directly!! But boy would Keagan have loved that horse, too big now of course, but I kick myself every so often that I never did get him a full sized rocking horse, a proper one like you have there, not one of these plastic mini things. Ah well. Take care Zo xx

What a beautiful horse. I would be quite happy to have him in my sitting room. I'd have to ban the dogs though or he might get a hoof chewed off! It must be lovely to work with wood all day. I'd just want to stroke it, and look at the grain patterns. Glad the doors have gone though so you have a bit of space for the next project. Kate x

That horse is going to be beautiful! My dh is a bit like yours, although we don't have the "excuse" of having a business or workshop that actually has work going on in it. Happy T Tuesday!

what a very fine horse it is peeking out and you are so right about 'stuff' becoming invisible ... it can be like a magnet too attracting other 'stuff' ;)
fun post

Wishing you a Happy T day

I am sure I told you the story of the local (when I was growing up) wool shop(they had them then!) who had a gorgeous rocking horse for the kids to play on. We loved it when Mum went wool shopping... Having seen it in person, your horse is lovely even in it's part done state (so is the other one!) I am with Mr D, I don't see the mess.. except when I've taken the pics for WOYWW and then I kind of think... eek! Not enough to do anything about the eek of course, but I do have the thought...

What a fabulous horse...I don't see any problem with it living there - unless of course you would like it to come and live here...

Enjoy your T for Tuesday (even if it is coffee).

What you neglected to add was the scale of the horse! it is nearly a life size pony! if I had to show my hubby's garage instead of my desk tomorrow, then you would understand that your garage is quite normal in in it's "usual" occupants!

I can relate to your Mr Dunnit-just doesnt see it, I have my own Mr Dunnit as well-innocent and ignorant.
I think it looks great behind your chair

I think men not seeing mess is a "man" thing - I know mine has it. Like not seeing the dishwasher needs emptying, or the recycle stuff needs taking out or the washing needs hanging out! Funny that, though I think he may notice a horse in the lounge!
Thanks for the giggle!
xx

Love the rocking horse (who is it going to?) and the story Julia...my Husband is of a similar disposition, but alas only when it is stuff that belongs to him...he is not so generous with the blind eye when it is my craft stuff / shoes / bags all over the apartment.. Cx

Tsk tsk.. doesn't everyone have horses behind their chairs? Some people are just weird.. ;-) It looks beautiful so far and I'm hoping we will see it finished too.

Lovely horse and typical husband - that sums it up in my books.
Hugs, Neet xx

Its a lovely horse Julia, and a lot easier to look at than the two big piles of school books my hubby has accumulated at the side of his armchair - even though we have been off now for 7 weeks and he has not needed any of them!

I totally understand about things becoming invisible to you after a while. I've caught myself with oddities that were temporally placed and left...forever. :)
Happy Tuesday!

Hi Julia, unfinished it may be, but it's shaping up to be a very handsome horse indeed. And I see nothing wrong with working from an armchair ... sounds like a very civilised thing to do :) Elizabeth xx

I had to smile at your description...pretty typical of our house too. any time something gets moved it creates a domino effect of having to rearrange a bunch of other stuff! but more like because we live in a tiny house...anyway, LOVE that horse! I know people who have old carousel horses in their living room for decoration on purpose! so no worries =)

I took a medication I was allergic to once and while I took all the other weird sensations and visualizations in stride, I was concerned about the horse in the corner of my apartment. I was sure the landlord would not approve.
