What’s On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 596

Well, a new lockdown begins tomorrow here in dear old Blighty and however much that changes your daily routine, please be reassured that some things will not be changing. Not even in a four week hurry.
I acknowledge that the mess is astonishing. I ‘work’ at this desk and even I’m having trouble. What is astonishing is that the piles at either end are still intact! It’s a different view completely. Since we put it in the new part of the building so that we can knock walls out of the old part, the desk has been against a glass door and I’ve sat with my back to the room. Didn’t give it much thought in all these weeks. Last weekend however, on a rare day at home, Mr Dunnit started the finishing in the new kitchen. And in order to keep him company but stay out of the way, I turned the desk around and sat with my back to the glass. Hello room! It didn’t make me anymore productive, but it did make me more sociable! Slow, my genius, huh.
You can see the extent of the desk chaos in glorious daylight. I was making cards using up scraps, colouring some found images and thinking about clearing everything card-y away to do some scrapbooking. When I was struck by the need for a number of birthday cards over the next weeks that I have no excuse not to make. So you see a bit of a master board balancing on top of er, GKW. There's also the kitchen tissue used to clean a water brush I was using with the radiant pearls, cosmic shimmers etc to paint the just visible foxes. There are a couple of the new air pump cosmic shimmer sprays. Distance is everything with these - too close to the card stock and you get big old blobs (see masterboard). The iPad stand holds postcards from The Shrieking Wizard Co - check ‘em out on You Tube. The pile at the end is made up of the bin, the cutter, the glass nib pen in its box, a RUB box containing my Tri Blends and barely visible...a very large reel of double sided tape. In a former life it was glazing tape; very aggressive and only good for card making - not sure how glaziers are with acid free product!
So I’ve really bared all. Now please do the same in the interests of my nosiness. And please remember that however flippant I am about the lockdown, I’m not unaware of how difficult it can be. Reach out if you want some company; especially if you want to test run the Zoom thing!

Join in now, before this becomes the longest workdesk post I’ve ever typed. Please put WOYWW in your post title and link that post, not just your blog, it’s ever so helpful. Thanks!

I don't mind practising a zoom get together over the weekend if you fancy it Julia. Hope you get to the bottom of the GKW pile soon lol. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #1

so if the back of your desk is no longer against a glass door does everything fall off the edge? It would here! (big plus for floor-working!) I like the cosmic effect of the sprays i must download and test the zoom thing.... Helen #2

It looks a glorious mess for sure but so long as you can actually be productive it’s all good. Right now I’m just ready for a bit of a meander around the desks and anything to take my mind off things.

Love the new view, I can imagine you sitting there more than I could before somehow. Just dawned on me, with Zoom we can see one another - shock horror what do I do about lockdown hair? Too late now to get it cut! And my room, it needs a major tidy before the 5th December. Maybe I need a trial run.
I like the look of that shimmer stuff - not too good with sprays so what are these new air pump ones? Need to investigate. Since giving up dem'ing I am so out of touch with the crafting world and I find out about these things when they are in use by everyone except me. And usually out of stock!

Hi Julia, A very busy desk this morning.

I'm hoping to get my To Do list, which includes sorting my crafting stash, done during the lockdown. Mind you last time with 12 weeks, I intended to do that:) LOL

Hope you have a good day. Sue

What a difference a perspective makes Julia.. had no idea it was thus till the big reveal, but then my capabilities in observing and retaining said observations is rather transient, unless I happen to really be there in the room.. chez Dunnit, now wouldnt that really be something! Lockdown and all. You're ALL in my thoughts and prayers over there...Thanks for sharing, and may God bless and keep you and all whom you love safe and well.

Hi Julia, now that is what I call a busy desk! Everything would end up falling off if that was my desk. Did you empty the desk before you turned it round? Or was it a major balancing act? I don't have the air pump sprays, just the old type, but I've yet to master the art of using them. I end up with the big blobs! And using them from a distance, I end up spraying everything in sight. I'm not looking forward to more lockdown, but at least my daughter's wedding is out of the way now, thank goodness! Have a lovely week, Heather xx #8

Not many of our overseas visitors will know the meaning of Blighty! As for the lockdown, it will hardly change my life as I've been working from home pretty much since March - except for a short while in September when they kept saying "go back to the office" and I felt compelled to oblige, even though I much prefer working from home! A desk can never be too busy, I say! Good on you, Julia - a busy desk is a creative desk! Looking forward to our 600th! I have yet to write my post today but will be joining later! xx

Oh it's a whole new world you must see Julia by turning your desk around and you can see what Mr Julia is up too as well!! I must say I'd not manage with a desk not against anything i'd lose everything. My only compromise is the garden table where my head is usually in the clouds when outside. Ain't those Tri-blends helpful little things. Wishing you sanity as we go into lockdown again tomorrow & much creativity. Life stay's very much the same for me as long as there is TP & Milk for the needy. WoywW Hugs Tracey x

Hi Julia. Good to be back. My space and whole room looked like that until Sunday. The big clear up started then! Yours looks and sounds so interesting. Latest lockdown not making big difference to us, hate not being able to be with family.
Managed to get on here after two/three attempts. Anne x 11

I have to say looking at your desk, that I would feel absolutely at home there, as mine is usually a carbon copy, with stuff just about where it is if you know what I mean. Occasionally I have a tidy up but it's where to put the stuff when I want to tidy it away which is the problem. I just don't have enough room!
Love the idea of a ZOOM, last night for my choir rehearsal my machine kept telling me that my internet was unstable... not sure if that was the actual wifi or my laptop... Hey ho!
Have a good week!

Now that’s what I call a ‘busy’ desk. Not sure which bit you work in but it sounds like you’ve been busy. Keep up the good work and keep smiling.

Happy WOYWW day! Checking in again here!

Ahhh - being sociable. That is a problem with having a separate crafting space. I always feel that I’m neglecting other family members and it’s not so bad when I’m here on my own but then the dogs don’t get attention either!

Really must get back to card making...

wow what a difference a change of perspective makes. It looks like someone else's desk lol. Mine. I particularly admire the slightly precarious bin/cutter/box scenario. I have similar almost daily and it is god to know I am not alone. The 'master board' looks lovely. I sometimes wish my craft room was a more sociable space. Then someone comes to talk to me or rummage and I realise that I don't really. Have a great week, the sun is shining today so I'm a happy bunny. Stay well, stay safe, Cindyxx

As much as I know your house so well, it took me a minute to figure out which part of the room I was looking at! The wood burner gave it away in the end. You must have excellent stack balancing skills for that lot not to topple over now it hasn’t got the window to lean against, lol! Hope you’ll all be ok in lockdown, we’re looking forward to next Monday here in Wales, that’s for sure.

HI Julia. I've never used Zoom but I'm guessing there must be an app for it so I'll have a look at this and try and find out what I need to do. I've been planning to have a look all last week but what with the baby journals and sorting stuff for mum it's taken second...no fifth place but I really want to give it a go if I can just might need a bit of help. It's funny really because when I was teaching technology I was one of the first in schools to get involved in computers which might be why when i retired I've tried to put them in the back of my list of importance. However masterboards....now they are right down my street Lol! Happy creative woyww, Angela x18x

Ooh sitting the other side of the desk and now being able to see the room made me laugh! I wouldn't have thought of that either to be honest.

Hadn't thought of a crafting zoom, did a couple family quiz nights and do them with bristol urban sketchers, we chat before then sketch (some dip out of the zoom then others sketch and chat-u can probably guess which camp i am usually in!!( then we rejoin on zoom at a pre agreed time to show and tell, works well. No idea why crafting like that hasnt dawned on me!!!

Hello Julia, as long as the mess changes as you work, then messy works for me - except when I lose the glue/pencil/scissors/etc :) Ideally I could do with one desk for painting, one desk for card making and journals and I am sure another one would come in handy for something else! So all in all a bigger room, ah well! Have a great week Angela #20

A spectacular desk, Julia. Mind you my husband just came into my craftroom and wat pretty scathing about how people can work in this sort of mess...

Hi Julia, and my congratulations on your balancing skills! My desk is open at the back, and the amount of stuff that falls off is ridiculous. Nice to have a different view though.I must admit that splodges from spray bottles are my niggle too, no matter what I always seem to get some.I just hope I can pass them off as part of the effect, lol. Stay safe, love & hugs to you both, Shaz #4 XxXxXx

Julia, you always make me chuckle!!! I'm afraid at times, if I moved my desk around, I wouldn't be any more productive either!!! LOL But hey, you did your part being sociable!! Let it be said!!! LOL Your desk continues to mesmerize me because if that were my desk and I tried to move it, it would have been to the floor for it ALLLLLL! LOL Blessings for your lockdown. We experienced that here in the states early on, but it has let up a bit. Stay safe! Felicia, #28

Good morning, Miss Julia.
Awww to be 29 again! LOL
Quite the desk you have going there. I did sign up for zoom. Now a requirement for a new position I have as co-marketer for a productivity coach. Maybe next week we can test the zoom thing. I've not done it before.
Let's make some cards! Creative Blessings! Kelly #29

Too bad about the Lockdown, I wish they would lock down Toronto. Gives you some time to play! As you know, I love a messy desk, so yours is awesome! I do Zoom a lot, I do my yoga classes by zoom, I just hope we can find a time when all of us around the globe are awake at the same time! Lindart #30

Good Morning Julia, we never fully re opened so, things are poking along about the same here. ( schools intend to open in our county though for all the K-12 this next round, its only been the smallest children at school the last few months) oh, I am just tickled you turned your desk around, last night I was thinking that my self to do that to the table I color on but, I think it will loose a little of the walk way and I am still debating about it. for the most part I am the only person in the room when I am coloring. I was just thinking I may have a tad more light but, I would also be tripping over the light cords to walk around it and sit. so, I have not made changes to that. Hang in there, I think the funny part to me is a lot of time I am trying for blobs of colors so, I do get my hand close to the sheet in the spray box when I am doing that sort of thing. :) ~Stacy #31

Hi, Julia!
Your place still looks better than mine!
All the "stuff" around me used to be treasures and family heirlooms. Not so sure now. About ready to make a couple trips to the charity shops!

I did download Zoom. Also tested with a girlfriend in SE Idaho. So far so good! You & I will have to do a test too.

Happy Wednesday!
Stay safe!

How nice to turn around and see the room and be social. It must make a huge difference. I love the idea of a zoom call - if you decide to trial it, count me in! It would be lovely to see every one. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#13)

Those are some impressive stacks, and that is coming from some who knows stacks lol. I have conditions that put me in the vulnerable group. So it's more of the isolating same for me. I even started using grocery pickup most of the time for fewer contacts with people who are only wearing face shields (face palm emoji). Of course the polling station was a mess and if I get covid for voting I am going to be really pissed off. The number of people who voted against themselves is staggering. WHY when one has health issues one vote for someone who wants to take away one's health insurance? Le sigh Le sigh. I am hibernating in the meantime.

Oh and PS my time zone is Pacific Standard Time ( its the west coast of the USA) so, it looks like all of the UK is in the same time zone right?
which puts you about 8 hours ahead of me, ( its 4:34 PM on Wed as I type this and it looks like its 12:34 AM thursday in London right now)

We've been playing with zoom over the first Lockdown...quizes mostly! I think son in law was cheating as he always won! This laptop won't cope with it but Hubby's man cave one will! I thought you were having building work done, as I always remembered the bit of grass outside your window...where there would usually be a spade...and the changing seasons showed a twiggy brush in winter and a leafy one in summer. Stay safe Happy woyww

I’d love a Zoom meeting if people want to have a meet up. My entire social and committee life is on Zoom and Teams since March. I’ve started slow stitching again just for me. Need to get round to some christmas makes soon I think.

That certainly is a busy desk, Julia! Nice to face into the room rather than have your back to it. I am glad the kitchen is in the finishing stages now - do show us some photos once your renovations are complete! It must be very difficult living in a building site all this time and I am sure you are looking forward to having it all ship shape at last.

Thank you for your visit - I actually like the carpet design in blue but thought the green would go better with #5 (the front cover of the needle book) - and I'm pleased with my choice in the end. We shall see, anyway, once it's complete.

I couldn't agree with you more about the high street being in trouble. It's been in decline for years, unfortunately, with some smaller towns' high streets just being full of antique shops and estate agents. Eventually it seems we shall all have no other choice than to do all our shopping on Amazon. The lockdowns aren't really affecting big business - just the middle sized and small ones and it's a huge tragedy for the country, I think. We were back in Newton Abbot again today for my eye test and it looked sadder than ever, with fewer people about, although I was surprised at just how many people there were, out and about. At least the sun was shining but it was cold - my hubby wasn't allowed in the shop to sit and read while I was being seen to, so he just walked about in the streets and sat on a bench for a while with his book. A few shops were open but not many.

Have a great week.

Oh sorry to hear of your lockdown. Things are bad here also, but no direct mandates. If we change Presidents I'm sure it will happen. Votes are so close they are re counting and still processing others. CRAZY WORLD
I've been MIA longer than I realized. but just can't get in the stream of commenting/blogging. We've had 6 friends pass in 3 wks and today another brother 48 died (one last week was 62)who has always lived next to my husband. Non of them Covid I am outside quite a bit 70 degree weather and enjoying nature. Wishing you the best. Keep your sanity, stay safe Hugs for things to return to what we thought was normal.
