What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 126

Thanks for all your concerns...nothing wrong with me at all (!!), just running a big behind...So this is what it looks like when I get a block on.  My friends (you lot) have told me, indeed, reassured me that it will pass.  I'm not fretting or stressing about it, although I admit to a bit of deadline panic.  But I'm not tidying up much either!  After today, I might well need to sort it out, but meanwhile, I'm busy doing other things, so it has to wait. Tough attitude, huh!  So anything new in that lot?  Not especially, but isn't it uncanny how much  that EK Success punch lying on its side looks like a stapler?  The square of pink and the square of orange are little plastic boxes that I decant embossing powders into.  The Distress Inks are out after an attempt at sponging some colour onto an embossed image.  It worked out just fine, I just didn't like the idea in the end.  I rarely stamp with the DInks, they have other, better skills! I can see matte accents, foam pads, a glue pen, glue dots and sellotape, so the usual choices for sticking and of course there's evidence of two pairs of scissors...a bit of a rummage at left will reveal two more!

So - are you working in calm or in chaos?  Show us what you're up to and what your surface looks like won't you?  Upload a pic to your blog, link it here and join us.  Not judgemental, but very nosey is an accurate summation!

Running a 'big' behind (quote Julia) - is that a new venture or are you having major body issues? Glad to see you...the universe shifted slightly at 6am as we all gasped at your worrying absence!

Ann B said...

You had me worried there Julia. Scheduled my post last night (suffering the same 'need the dining table' problem as Shaz)and when I went link it there you weren't.

Phew, glad all is well in Julia-land!!

Relieved to find that you are OK!!! I was thinking of all sorts of scenarios! Wonderful to see you desk not so spic and span after you said you were getting a bit uninterested in making cards!!

no, WOYWW on Wednesday? now THAT is scary (i saw that line so many times while waiting)! what would we do? seriously, i was getting concerned!

Glad it's all fixed now, mate - peeps were worried about you! Sorry about the early phone call, but thought you needed to know so that the tear in the fabric of time could be fixed :D xx

Yay, Julia... you're here!!! You've had a few peoples worried, you know?! *lol*
Well, the desk was worth the wait (as always)... a creative mess - and I love the card inked in blue - so cute.
I've often been asked to make things for other people to buy or make a business out of my crafting - but I know I couldn't do it... HAVING to do something rather than wanting to do it makes my happy hobby a worrisome job with responsilbility and I'd learn to hate every creative moment. SO... do something for yourself, Lady Julia, and let the mojo flow!

Goodness! Glad that it is just a case of running late with a no mojo a-go-go, and not something more serious! We are more excited to find you than Dr. Livingston (I presume?)...or is it more of a Monty Python :I'm not dead yet?" In any case, we hug your mess and are glad to have you here to host! (will be out looking for mojo after blog hopping LOL!) -Amanda

What's the saying, sit yourself down, take a deep breath and start all over again. It's become a well known fact that the weeks have gotten shorter. Something to do with global warming or the ecconomic climate. It's a weather thing anyway......lol

Yay! You've arrived. There was me thinking I'd be late to the party today.... Chaotic desk today - you need more of a rummage and I reckon you'll find your mojo lurking under something!

Oh my goodness, I'm running a 'big behind' too! (just seen some video of me from three years ago...aargh!!! definitely bigger now!) Your desk looks brilliant,I want to dive in and make something! And as mMy mojo's been missing for a few weeks now, mainly because the emptying of the attic is such a major job and everywhere's in such a mess, that's a very good reason to pop in and have a snoop! I actually might make a card to day!!(sod the attic mess!!) Have a great week

I am so glad you were behind cos I managed to get the number 2 spot behind a country fellow girl, I stalked and stalked your blog and thought you went AWOL on us, half the blogs had their pages up already lol, anyway I told everyone you'd slept in so as not to worry them. Looks like a busy weekday workdesk for you today

Thank goodness you are OK ... well physically ...when you stop worrying I am sure your card creativeness will return ...maybe you need to mess aound, with no purpose, for a day or two...and not with cards ... see what happens. When Mojo goes on holiday it is so scarey ...especially as mine takes LONG breaks xx

This week I was super-organised with my post, and discovered that you are true to your title and don't post on a Tuesday night.
I always love to see your desk, makes me feel like I'm not a freak of nature.

I am in neither chaos nor calm, but bits of both, my husband calls my craft room 'the Swamp'... it just about sums it up really.
I'm glad that all is well and hope that inspiration prevails over the 'block' imminently!

can you imagine me in anything less than a state of chaos?

I work in the eye of the storm!

regarding the block?

I find taking a walk and a cup of tea from a stinky (soup last time) flask on a draughty hill helps...

Hi Julia! God, you must be busy :)

I love stamping with DInks, and making paint with them, and edging and... lol. OK I might need an DIntervention. Love the sparkling ribbon and the punch really does look like a stapler lol. It looks like you've been busy, and knowing what you don't want to do is narrowing the selection to what you do :D. Probably should have had a Pollyana warning on this post lol. Sending you lots of mojo wishes!

PS saw you failed to get a wreath ring on Kezzy's blog, I saw an idea on Pinterest where people have made rings from bendy foam pipe insulation or swim noodles, then closed the circle by joining the ends with duct tape.

I think this is the first time I've been below 50... Wishing your mojo a speedy return. Maybe he is hidden under the Distress Ink? Mine is tidy for once because I just had a rejig and got some new furniture - I'm happy as a pig in mud! Take care xx

Hope your crafting mojo makes a comeback soon! I wonder where it goes....hmmmm..... don't know, but it annoyingly goes at the worst times of year! :o) an abundance of scissors as always! I've managed to spy 3 craft knives on my desk this week, quite why I have 3 out I have no idea! some nice stamps on your desk this week, the baubles one looks nice. x

Hi Julia, Thought you might be having a well deserved lie in this morning (well, your morning, my afternoon, but you get the idea). Glad you are OK! I have finished my last project with a deadline for this year and I must say, what a relief it is! Such a relief that I think I won't be signing up for any more swaps for a long, long time. I must say, I really like the look of that stamp in your pic, closest to bottom right hand corner. Take care.

Hi Julia. Sorry I was so busy I incorrectly posted this on a wrong blogentry first - and sorry it is from last Wednesday - but for once in a long time I remembered to include a fraction of my workdesk on a photo. NOT to worry - it might look clean - but if I had shown the whole table and not just zoomed in on the present project - it would have looked EXACTLY like yours. I can work on top of a heap which is on top of some clutter leaning towards another heap ... you'll understand - I know you will. Thanks for visiting and happy Wednesday.

I love your desk. I wish my desk looked more like it! Of course, when the muse deserts you, tidying is always an option. Hopefully you'll end up with a couple of random things in your hands that kick start you. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Oh, and in answer to your question, the hank of stuff on my desk last week is a hank of paper string. I used it last year to tie up everyone's brown paper packages for Christmas!

Scrapcollectr said...

Maybe start with a new sketch idea? I give a link on my blog to a site I found. Your muse is just on an extended Halloween break. She'll be back!

Yay glad to see you this week!! I have missed not playing along while on vacation! Love your desk...looks like mine when I get my head on something and can't be bothered to straighten up after myself. Hope you have a great week! Vickie

Oh my, Julia. I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw your crafty area. I would get hives if mine got that happy.

Hi Julia - 'I know all about running a big behind ' believe me . Your desk looks like mine did yesterday morning. I too have been making a lot of waste with card and paper as things that looked fabulous in my head turned out like my four year old granddaughter could produce - wll she probably do better! Hope you start to get through the 'block' soon. Anne x

Shoshi said...

Julia, you're not the only one who hasn't produced much this week! I haven't done a thing in my ARTHaven all week except dump stuff in there - not because my Mojo has departed, but because I've been busy with other things. Hope yours comes back soon and you're soon back in Fulll Production Mode. Happy WOYWW and thanks for all you do!

Elizabeth said...

Well, Julia, you might have been late this morning but as I'm always later, a lot later, it all passed me by :) Being a neatnik (a condition for which there is no known cure as far as I'm aware) I got itchy hands when I saw your desk ... let me at it and I'd have it tidy in no time :) I've got to sympathise with how you are feeling ... even whilst chuckling at the idea of a 'big behind' ... a bit like having a 'big ask' ... I've been struggling with all the calls on my time too. You've tried everything I'd suggest so what now??? Ah well, hope you regain control and balance soon. Elizabeth x #59

Sometimes I just have to clear my desk and start again, as clear space can help me think straight and organise. Love choas though - it can be liberating or stifling, depending on how I feel at the time. Hope your mojo comes back soon.

Oh you scared me Julia....just when I decided to play along again, I thought WOYWW was ended! Whew!! I'm glad you are okay.

Now for your block ~ sometimes it helps to clean everything up and start over from scratch. Cleaning is zen like action that may help to spur some creative thoughts.

Happy WOYWW!

Oh we all go through those periods of very low creativity and energy. Just remember in times likes these that there have always been times like these. (I can't remember who said that - but it's true!)

Sarah said...

I'm running behind today for no other reason than I was just slow getting going this morning and so made myself get some jobs done before I came online. Really want to get some creative chaos going on my desk though

MadeByKarla said...

Like all others I had begun to wonder what could have happened and hoping you were alright! SO glad you're fine :) you're right, it's interesting how much that looks like a stapler. If you hadn't told me it was a punch, I wouldn't have known!

MadeByKarla said...

oh yes, that block might be helped by a good sorting of your desk and/or work area. That always helps me. I sit on my chair and start cleaning up my desk. And before you know it, I'm making something and the cleaning stopped...lol. That's why it never gets done!

fairyrocks said...

Julia!!! you are in a rare state today. Funny how that photo always looks so different than it does when we are standing in front of it.
Hope your muse comes back soon.
Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Glad you're OK, Julia. Love the thoughts of rummaging on your desk - you might unearth a treasure or two that will set off your mojo x

I'm a bit chaotic lately and sometimes when the creative juices stop, I just start straightening up the mess somewhere in my little studio room and it can kick the process into gear again.

Michelle Blake said...

After looking at the picture for a minute, I started to feel like we could play a game of 'I Spy' with this. You could have fooled everyone and told them to look for the EK Success punch. Everyone would have looked right over the 'stapler', LOL!

Julia! The very first thing my eye grabbed was the distress inks. In my favorite list of things to create with (for paper arts) are the distress inks. Perhaps even second on the list under glitter. How would one list these things according to favorite (there's a question!!). In any event, my art friend, enjoy the calm. You will be overtaken by a riot of inspiration soon. Have a lovely day. *smiles* Norma

I didn't make it to WOYWW this week. A bit like you, only mine was actually planned. Guess it worked out OK, because I would never have been able to stay awake to join in the fun, anyway.

I think you must be hanging out with Doone, rather than LLJan. Decanting is NOT for embossing powder, but for wine, or at least that's what I've been told (grin).

Thanks for stopping by my blog and welcoming me to WOYWW. My process is often not so unplanned, this one has been one of those frustrating pieces, I have no hesitation painting out something that is not working for me but really I should of planned it better.

I think it's amazing how many people work like I do! If there wasn't encroachment, I couldn't get anything done! I love that snowman stamp at the top: I bought it because I loved the store sample, now I'm stumped on how to use it! Your card looks great. Have a great week.

Shoshi said...

Hi Julia, thanks for your lovely comment on my blog! My teaching session went so well this a.m. and they were all so lovely - I was absolutely thrilled. I can't have been too bad because they've asked me back!! Yes, I'm tired now but it was worth it. It won't be like my group in the old days where I had to come up with a session every week and it was a big responsibility and lots of work, but this is so informal and I can turn up or not, and they will accept that! So the pressure is off, and I can just enjoy it.

I enjoy using my computer for my art - it's not that difficult to learn - a lot of people use Inkscape (open source/free software) but I don't find that very user friendly, and use Serif DrawPlus which is awesome! It's really fun and creative, and well worth learning! I have designed several cut files now for my Cricut and have uploaded them to my SkyDrive for anyone to download free, and also some texture overlays for use with digital scrapbooking etc. I really love sharing what I do - it gives me the greatest lift ever!! I've had so much free help from the artistic community online and it's nice to be able to put something back.

Hugs,
Shoshi

That punch does look like a stapler! Whenever I get a block, I clean up something I don't use often (like my big box of stickers), then I usually find something "new" to create with, and the block goes away! And I totally get running behind - its Sunday already, and I'm only on my Wednesday blogging!
