What’s On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 656

And *pouf*, we’re in the middle of Christmas week, the day of the five gooooolllld rings. Yep, it’s already the fifth day of Christmas and I am genuinely not keeping up. During this year you, like me have put up with quite a lot of disruption because of moving walls and doorways. Well, part of the project involved hanging new doors in all the appropriate holes. When the adjacent room was the lounge, I insisted on not having a door because I wanted to be within earshot of Miss and Mr Dunnit whilst they watched TV and relaxed their way, whilst I crafted and relaxed my way. Now it has a door on it, at Christmas time, it means that the workroom becomes a depository: for the spare dining chairs, the spare lounge chair, bin bags filled with non recyclables and never mind the last minute wrapping station and frantic scrabble for a Christmas birthday card!
So I’m not showing you that. I thought you might instead like a decent shot of what has caused all the upheaval. It looks very lived in and disorganised, but that seems to be how we live; you won’t be surprised, you’ve seen my desk once a week for twelve and a half years!
So the square archway, (currently looking untidy with the unlit lights strewn about)used to be the back wall of the house and had a double door into what was a conservatory that we weren’t really using much. That structure was about the same width as this opening, so this new(ish) one story structure is much bigger! It was always goIng to be a kitchen diner, but it soon became evident that we couldn’t resist the amount of daylight it offered, so now it’s our kitchen lounge! The space I stood in to take the photo is the dining room, so the kitchen is still open to the dining room, so it still makes geographic sense. To us, at least!
And there’s a full on kitchen shot. The colour is not what I had in my head when we chose the floor, but Mr Dunnit practically ran to the red samples when we went to the paint shop, and if it makes him happy, I don’t care about the floor appearing blue! There’s still stuff to do, but I promise this will no longer be an excuse under the labels ‘building’, ‘dust’ and ‘what’s the point when everywhere is a shambles’. The next phase, gentle desker, doesn’t really involve the ground floor much. Let’s hope the workroom doesn’t have to become a bedroom. What a thought!

So for the last time this year, please show and tell if you’ve got time, and if you want to be excused showing a craft work area, it will not be a problem!
And here’s wishing you a very happy, safe and healthy New Year. There’s absolutely masses I could say about lots of subjects, not least the Pandemic. But I’m not going to, it’s enough to know that you’re in touch with each other and that we’re all keeping on. Keep on, with love.

well here is a surprise, I came to get the url to paste into my post and you're published - so I am live too. I adore your red kitchen units - I know we've seen a peek at them before but the full effect is gorgeous. I love too that you have a lived in home and not a glossy magazine image one (not that I would ever have believed it if you'd shown us one - sorry!!) I wish you all a very happy healthy New Year and to all the deskers too. Helen xx

Lovely as can be! It really is the heart of the home, isn’t it? Hoping you enjoy it for years and years, and that 2022 is safe, happy and healthy for all the Dunnit clan and indeed all desk hopping WOYWWers.

What a fabulous space Julia - no wonder you swapped the living and dining areas around. Hope 2022 is a better year all round for everyone. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #7

It's all looking brilliant and I know you will make good use of it. I think the colour works well and stops it looking just like a kitchen. I'm not so keen on the grey and white that's so popular now it belongs in a bathroom maybe. A home needs to feel warm and lived in but that's just me, I like colour. Hope you've had a good Christmas and hopefully we'll get a better new year. Love and woyww hugs, Angela xXx

Hi Julia, I'm just sneaking in wearing dark glasses and a big overcoat and standing at the back!! Hope you had a great Christmas. I'm considering an extension myself for next year (Mr M is trying to resist, but he knows we need it), as our dining room is way too small for the size of our family, so it was lovely to see the shots of yours. The red looks great. I'll try and be a more regular visitor - I have missed you all! Have a lovely week, and a great New Year, hugs Heather xx #10

That’s a nice light room, Julia. I’m glad you’re getting time off from building work. It’s gets very wearing. I know.
So glad we’ve mostly survived 2020 and 2021 and can continue our weekly gathering. Happy new year to you
Hugs

Happy WOYWW. Loving the red kitchen - very popular in Spain - and the new extension is fabulous. If I had the budget, I would build a garden room off our kitchen - for more light and a less formal dining area. However, I would rather move to a smaller bungalow! Happy New Year to you all. Ali x #14

Bet it is a good feeling that you are nearly sorted in the Kitchen area, looks lovely, love the light too, totally understand the move out there for the lounge area. I'm late to the party again, I woke at 4am but managed to get back to sleep and then life....Hugs BJ#17

Hi Julia. Love that red! I love red! Glad you have a home and that the kitchen is the heart of it. Our dining room - usually craft room is off the kitchen so it all flows nicely.
Wishing you a very happy and healthy 2022. Anne x 18

Hi Julia, I love your lounge kitchen. So much more family friendly than the boxy little kitchen here. I dream of knocking down walls but know I just couldn't stand the upheaval. Great colour on the units too. Like you, and all of us I believe, I'm not dwelling on the last two years. Instead, I'm hoping for better to come in 2022. Happy WOYWW, happy week, and Happy New Year. Hugs, Elizabeth x #16

Thank you for the tour . . . so beautiful . . . green eyed again . . .
Love the colour of the units . . . . and in time the floor or they can be changed . . . . just saying.
Hope that 2022 is happy and healthy, more finished and less chaotic, for you all. Stay healthy

I bet those fairy lights look lovely in the dark, reflecting from the glass! The thought of your craft room becoming a bedroom doesn't bear thinking about, even if just temporarily! Wishing you all the best in 2022 Julia! xx zsuzsa (yet to link up)

Wow - all that wait was totally worth it! What a great space! I could easily see myself with a kitchen lounge like that in my house! And we have the perfect space, but I would lose my office...
Hopefully you will regain your craft room soon and 2022 creativity can begin! I wish you all the best for 2022, and hope that it will be better than the last 2 years we've had! Lindart #23

The light that space has is so fabulous Julia, I can totally picture your family using it as the place to be, and that is handy that you have a view into it from the crafty desk too :) Happy New Years! ~Stacy #24

wow it's a great kitchen! If only (just before Covid hatched)the guys that were going to add our extension had only emailed us all the details and cost as he said he would, we'd have one now too! (no money but a bigger kitchen come dining room) never mind...hubby built a car port instead. My craft rooms were bedrooms and a shed once! you could perhaps put a roll out bed...but leave all the crafty stuff there, so they don't get too comfy! Hope you had a lovely Christmas and a very happy 2022! Happy WOYWW! late as always((Lyn))#25

Happy New Year - great views of your lounge/kitchen/dining room. Love all the windows, they make everything seem spacious. Is the pressure on to keep the kitchen tidy? Hope you had a great Christmas, we seemed to have had. A more hectic on than usual! Love Angela #15
