What’s On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 635

Ta Na! Shelves! I practically had to sleep with the joiner, but they are in, and all mine to arrange as I like. Considering they’ve been like this for five days, it’s me that’s slacking, not him!

Note the bottom left shelf;  it’s a start and I’m super pleased with my new storage for embossing folders and big dies. The rest of the dies are under the shelf thing in folders, so it looks pretty neat at the mo!
I totally accept that one shelf does not free up my dining table or finish my craft room, but I am doing other things. And now and then I try to decide what needs to be on the next shelf - criteria include frequency of use, ease of reach and tidiness to the eye. Stunning that I should consider that it needs to look tidy on the shelf, but I can’t help it. The frequency of use thing is a double edged sword….if I use it a lot, it deserves an easy reach space. But if it isn’t at least in my line of vision, I probably won’t use it! Argh. So - now you’re lulled into a great sense of reasonable tidy well being…..
Here’s a shot of part of my desk! Argh! It makes me smile a bit actually, because so often I read that one or other desker has zoomed in or cropped a shot so it doesn’t look too untidy, and here am I just showing a portion because it’s no better or worse in full size glory! There’s a good selection of stuff on there too, some die cut snowflakes, some sticker tabs (probably my most used punch/sticker/embellishment in scrapbooking particularly). There’s a water brush a pencil and a glue pen. The glue pen is great, really good sticky, controllable glue (zig, I think), but oh boy, it smells awful. I think it used to be called rubber cement. Stinky when wet. The ATC is on the theme of City, and is far more sophisticated than the one I sent as the swap. Under that is a 6x6 pad of very male suitable papers, sent by a friend as a gift. Nice huh. Not that I’ve come up with any ideas yet, I sure hope that her plan wasn’t to wait for me to come up with ideas in an instant!
Talking of instants…snap a pic of your space, show us your stuff, please. You are so much more interesting than the mess to be found here.

A shelf! Woo boo! Very exciting, and I totally agree with the most used/close at hand thing. I have always had a deep desk to match my loooong reach. All the stuff I will need to grab 100 times in a project ihas to be RIGHT THERE or I’ll be crazy by the end of it. Lovely to begin from the beginning with you’re organising. Think about it every step of the way, it’ll be worth it. Enjoy the process has never been a more apt bit of advice LOL!
Happy day!

hurrah for the shelf! Good luck with the planning of the sorting of the rest of it... Good to see the wooden stamps in situ too. The desk looks good and busy.

At least you have made a start Julia. I have a few of those red baskets myself in different sizes - they are great for keeping htings neat and ease of collecting similar items together. I am sure that it won't be long before the rest of the shelves are sorted too. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #3

Happy WOYWW. Your first shelf will soon be one of many. I didn't take a photo of one part of my craft room floor, where the rest of the stuff waiting to go in a 'cube' is sitting - plus the bulky things that will not fit and I need to choose a suitable cupboard from the Ikea website (plus order and then put it together). I will show that all next week. I am so used to just taking quick photos/videos and putting them on Instagram - but definitely already feeling less pressured without social media. Ali x #6

Morning Julia. Yay - shelves! Well done. You'll work out what needs to go where - it will come. Take your time.
I finally made it to a Wednesday morning, by realising what day in the week it is.. oops!
Take care. God bless.

Oh what a wonderful carpenter you have....and having to sleep with him too (what a bonus). You will have fun filling those I’m sure. My world is far too boring this week in comparison sorry...think I need to find myself a carpenter with benefits 😘

Hi Julia, glad you at least have even marginally biddable workers! Our builder says all his lads are self-isolating. How lovely to have all your space to arrange in.
Have fun!
Take care and happy WOYWW

Things are certainly progressing now and it's looking good. It's been a bit difficult at my end as my mum had another fall on Sunday but she's back home again and we're trying to sort out some additional care but trying to reach anybody by phone is not easy. Needless to say I am determined to finish this project that I promised to one of the challenge blogs so had a bit of a late night after getting back home and it's nearly finished thank goodness. Have a lovely week and a very productive woyww. Angela x17x

Hurray for the shelves! I remember when I got mine I was ecstatic and years down the road I still haven't organised them properly and just treat them as my dumping ground - don't follow my example! I hope you're talking about Mr Dunnit when you say you had to sleep with the joiner LOL! Wishing you a creative week, Julia! xx

Shelving -yipee! Now the fun begins - I love filling up new shelving and getting things organised - it's such satisfying feeling when it's done. There is so much activity going on quite frankly I'm very impressed you are able to create at the same time. Great little ATC, love the City theme.
Hope you have a great week filling shelves,

Woohoo for having shelves, enjoy arranging all your stuff! Everything I use frequently is to hand, it just makes sense as I hate wasting time searching for stuff. Your desk is magniflorious but snowflakes in August?!

Good morning Julia. Happy WOYWW! The first shelf is in and decision making in progress. I find that the most difficult - what goes where! I am sure you will figure it out. Have a great week Angela #15

I took my photos today so that you couldn't see the washing hanging above it...
ood to see that you have shelves - I am constantly rearranging mine for optimum use!

Yay! Shelves! How wonderful - I always like the organising everything to hand, but my trouble is that it never stays easily accessible because of the piles that end up being pushed in front of the so called easily accessible bits! I look forward to seeing gentle progress on your room over the next few weeks. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#18)

Totally lulled by the tidy photos..... then the desk LOL, made me laugh. Know what you mean about the easy to reach, I revamped my shelves like that a while back and use even less stamps/stamping in my scrapping now!

Might need to go back a few weeks to see what's been happening as I've made a vow not to post unless I have actually done some crafting! I seem to have been like one of those busses this week! Anyway, glad certain life things are over and back to shopping on a Thursday instead of a Wednesday for the Summer and the heat has abated for now as I just didn't function in the heat at all.

Love coming back to see what everyone is up to. BJ#24

I’m with you Julia if I can’t see it I won’t use it and need all most used things in reach.. but hey that means everything has to be nearby doesn’t it? Therein lies the conflict of the obsessed crafter, think that’s why I rarely rarely enough, also because when I do I can never find things I’ve hidden in a very memorable (not) place.
Yes don’t die of shock the recalcitrant from the convict nation has finally returned .. not from lack of it.
Even now it’s after 9pm, here, and I’m on my iPad ie mobile with disobedient webrowser, and I shall yet once again struggle to return kind commenters but I shall do my best.
Hope you’re well, special prayers and thoughts for darling mumma, whom you see today, and also a big thumbs up to Mr Dunnit’s joinery skill.

Thanks for Sharing, God bless and keep you safe, and all those you love, hugs Shaz in Oz.x

Progress, Miss Julia! Yay! for progress. My desk is pretty tidy this week but that's because I"m between projects LOL. I get your perplexity of how to position items. I'm right there with you but mine is on hold for the next 25 days til Bob gets home and has a bit of breather. Hugs & Creative BLessings - Kelly

Ooh YAY one shelf is ready, that looks awesome Julia. and keep in mind its totally OK to re arrange if what makes it to shelf number 3 needs to move later. ( hopefully not but, you know what I mean) :) my mess sprawls out 6+ feet wide so, you almost always get cropped views. ~Stacy #31

I'm far too busy cutting and stacking bamboo at the moment, but wanted to stop by to say HI! You are SO lucky to have shelving. I have no place for shelving in my craft room. I am hoping your husband doesn't mind you sleeping with the joiner (GRIN). I laughed hard when I read that. You now have a place for your dies and I am impressed with the tidiness of it. I suspect it will stay clean, too. I'd love to be able to see everything in front of me, but that isn't possible in the craft room.

Note of advice. If the shelf you have chosen for these dies isn't working for you, be sure to change it AND take a photo so you know where you moved the dies. Have a super week, dear friend.

Hi Julia! I feel exactly the same way as you when organizing my craft room, if I don't see it I won't use it. I have several Iris Carts full of things that I have labelled in really BIG letters, and still can't find the right drawer! I like your shelves, lots of spots to put things within reach, And I'm sure once you have everything organized it will look nice and tidy - long enough to take a photo anyway! Then let the mess begin again! Have a great week, Lindart #32

I have shelves...they are a bit narrow, as the room is small bigger shelve would make the room seem even smaller, sez hubby of all shelf building knowledge. True but those little shelve are still holding up a massive load of crafty stuff, which is why one fell down the other week! (A low one...and I might've knocked it with my chair when I spun round, the one time I had room to do so! Glycerin, yes, well as you spray the loo rolls with the water and glycerin, it helps soften the cardboard but also helps to make the fibres stronger...so sez the lady in the video. I'm no further along with the look rolls as I now need some sort of gesso to paint on them...and them a spray sealant whatever thingy....which I haven't got...yet Sorry I'm so late, its been a cats- dogs- grandkiddies-visiting people in hospital sort of week! Happy last weeks WOYWW!? ((Lyn)#26
