What’s On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 572

572. That’s a ridiculous ELEVEN years. The WOYWW years are not in any way related to our growing up years. They can’t be, I’m not eleven years older; I can’t be, the weeks go so quickly that I’m not keeping up! There is a community here and especially now, during this Time of the Pandemic it’s important to me, I hope it is for you too. From the heart of my bottom, I thank you for every single post and every single comment.
Meanwhile....there’s a desk and a challenge.
This is yesterday’s desk. I was on the phone for a while and decided it would be a good chance to attack another UFO, so I coloured the snowmen. I wonder how long it will be before they find themselves on a card. More interesting....can you see, just visible to the right of the big orange scissor handles, there’s three large chocolate buttons. They aren’t there now, obvs. They are the new Cadbury’s milky dark chocolate. Absolutely delicious, smooth creamy dark chocolate, not bitter or harsh. Definitely a new favourite. There’s a geo tag cut file slung in the basket, I made a LO yesterday and thought the cut file would make a perfect background. Most of it didn’t make it onto the page. And then there’s a sneak peek of my challenge UFO...
It started life as the cotton bud tub you have seen on my desk many times with it’s fellow, the hot choc tub.
Well, ignoring the tray full of flip flops and thong thingys, I generously coated these tubs with gesso. Took two days to dry type of generous. Forgot to take a photo, obv. Then I painted them with blue and then random strokes of green sparkle paint (the one that gets all over my skin, including my face...I was nothing if not intrepid for this challenge.)
Betcha you can’t see a single shimmer or sparkle, can you? I honestly don’t know why I bother. Meanwhile, I expertly moulded some feathers and stars with my incredible moulding foam, detailed moulds and another day to dry. Yawn. I used a creme shimmer thing by Cosmic Shimmer people to burnish the moulded shapes and then I glued ‘em on. Tip...silicone glue makes the paint go black. I don’t know why but it looked horrid, so I changed to regular PVA and sunshine. Oh and some pegs to save my little fingers after the first star. And because you know, patience.
...ta na...two useful tubs, altered to be two useful tubs! With huge thanks to Marit’s Dutch Summer and Szaszu for the inspiration and you, gentle desker, for the motivation.
Can’t wait to see what you all managed. I should add here that dragging out and working on a UFO is a great thing to do...but don’t be stressing about finishing it...the whole point is that you’re doing it!
Show off and tell then, and erm, drinks are on me. Happy Anniversary!

Useful pots are so very - useful! Love that teal blue-green colour you created. Thank you for your friendship and dedication all these years, I am sure there have been times when you thought (think!) oh heck, let it stop... but we love you for it. A big shout out to anyone who's struggling in these times, and wishing everyone a happy WOYWW today especially. xx Helen

Happy 11th Anniversary, Julia. You are a fabulous host and the ONE and ONLY who keeps this going through the years (with Jan's help when you were ill, of course). Thanks for keeping it going and thanks for welcoming me into your fold over 10 1/2 years ago.

I love what you finished, even if it took you forever to finish it. Not only is is useful, it shows your humor, too. And I don't feel so bad about how many photos I took after seeing your really long and unusual post.

Happy Anniversary Julia! Eleven years! Unbelievable, bet you never thought in your wildest dreams it would go on that long. You do realise now that you cannot stop. It's here for eternity. You are here for eternity.
Thank you so much for having given me so many friends, friends I have since met, friends I will probably never meet but friends all the same. It's a great community you have built and we thank you for it Julia.
Hugs, Neet 5 xx
ps I love your canister - what an absolutely fabulous colour and what a lot of work went into its making - but it was well worth it. xx (intentional that I made this a post script)

Morning Julia, Happy anniversary!
Thank you for all you have done for the WOYWW community over the years and what we hope will be doing for many years in the future.
That's a very useful pair of tubs, I have several like that, very pretty colour, I'm lazy, I just wrap mine with wallpaper.
Well here's to the next 11 years
God bless you WOYWW headmistress

Happy 11th Anniversary Julia, after two and a bit years I still feel like a newbie... but i've never felt so welcome even though you know some weeks it's difficult for me to get here. I'm glad you managed to finish the buds tub & the choccie one too, that's a fabulous quote, think we all need an ATC with that saying on it to peg up in our spaces. Make good use of them with all your crafty tools & what nots whilst you think on of all those other UFO's in hiding. Thank you for keeping me grounded during the week & many many happy returns on this magnificent day! Cheers & creative hugs Tracey #10 xx

Good morning Julia. Firstly I must thank you from the heart of my bottom for all your hard work for keeping us all linked up for so long....I’m sure we are all truly grateful for our Wednesday link ups even more right now. I’m really loving your new pots and can see them being used for all sorts (I will say I thought you’d got chips in them in the one pic!!) Of course my UFO had to be fabric related and I’ve worked extra hard this week with the mask making so I could take time out for blogging today...I failed hopelessly the last two weeks but I’m sure everyone will understand.
Sending you biggest hugs,
Annie x

Happy anniversary everyone and a big thank you to our intrepid leader Julia for keeping us all together, especially now in these strange times. I think it’s a community we all need to be able to come to.
So a big thank you Julia xx
Even hubby reminds me on a Wednesday mornings now. “Have you done your work desk Wednesday” Hee hee

Love your altered useful tubs, gorgeous colour too. Nice to get to see a few photos on the way as well. I did mine last week and think it really annoyed my right hand with all the hammering which has made the tingling worse. But then again all this HEAT isn't helping much either. Think it is definitely a bikini day today! Thanks for such a wonderful desk party, 11 years, who'd have thought. Hugs BJ#13

Happy 11th anniversary and well done on the new tubs painted in the most gorgeous colours. Thanks Julia for keeping us all connected over so many years. We could not of done this without you and I definitely would never of completed the few UFO's discovered in my cupboards. Stay safe.

Nothing to show for my UFO this week, but next week prepared to be amazed (or not)! Ali x #18

Happy Happy Anniversary - 11 years are a long time for one hobby ;) Dear Julia Dunnit THANK YOU for being here for all of us. It is amazing to see what is going on, on your desk and all the others!!... Thank you!!

My name is Cindy said...

I commend you on your patience - one of the reasons I fail at finishing things is I lose interest if there are lots of steps - I wanna do it, and I wanna do it now!! I do however love th sentiment on your tub. When you find out who it is who can finish all these lists please let me know. Happy 11th Anniversary - yes WOYWW really must be some kind of parallel time frame - love n hugs Cindyxx

Gosh, I didn't realise it was the 11th anniversary today! Many happy returns! Looks like I surfaced at the right time! Loving your painted tubs as well - they look so much nicer with a splash of colour - the shimmer is always difficult to show in photos but I can imagine! Love the quote about the to-do list as well - yep, that's me at the moment! Hope you're keeping well Julia. It will be nice to catch up with everyone. xxx zsuzsa #30

Happy happy special day! Just popping in to say thank you for starting this in the first place. I need to find a way to join in again but my blog is on my website, does it matter if I'm linking directly to a post that doesn't advertise anything (but may contain pics of things that will eventually become supposed advertising!) Imagine my joy at seeing one of our cut files on your desk - it gave me such a smile, thank you! Best wishes to you and I can't wait for a proper hug xx

... so Zsuzsa had us both inspired to pick up an UFO, mine came from something I saw on her blog almost two years ago! And no, I did not finish it this week, working on it though. I love how you altered those tubs, extra usefull now as they are also nice to look at! Happy anniversary to you dear, and thank you for all those years of hosting - you don't seem to have grown one day older in 11 years (at least your creative brain didn't age, and that's the most important thing!) Hi Julia, first off, an enormous thank you from us both, for all the wonderful friends you've brought us! Many, but not all, that we've met in real life thanks to the crops. All these lovely people we would never have met if not for you & WOYWW.So, from the heart of our bottoms too, thank you. We love you.
Great job on the useful tubs, how strange was that glue reaction? Love the quote stamped on it, lol. And it's annoying that glitter/sparkle just never shows up properly in photos. And how cameras will change colours! Mine changes purples to blues every darn time. Those chocolate buttons sound good, I love me some plain chocolate, although have to admit I like the bitterness of it.Sending you lots of love and huge hugs on our birthday, Shaz & Doug #12. Happy Anniversary! Your tubs are awesome, and I love the quote you used! I am so grateful to you far starting WOYWW, I don't think I would be blogging if I weren't linking in every week, and I have so many blogger friends now, I feel like I know you all personally! I have no doubt that if I showed up in the UK one day, I would have lots of people to visit! Have a wonderful week! Lindart #40

Hello Julia! I am so happy you started WOYWW. I think it was 2012 when I joined and I have loved every bit of it. Thank you. I loved meeting new friends from around the globe. It's always fun to see what everyone is working on and hear about lives. It's something to look forward to every week and especially now that we are locked in at home.
I love the UFO you worked on. I think the vibrant colors are brilliant and I bet you will find a lot you can store in them. The snow men are so cute. I can't wai to see them on cards. You can simply cut them and slap them on a card, add a sentiment and bam... Christmas card ready to go.
Well stop by when you can and stay safe.
hugs,

Well done with your snowmen, Julia, and I hope they don't melt before they find their way onto cards! Thank you for your visit and for exonerating me of guilt over my UFOs! I think your idea of working on the teabags in the garden is an excellent one. However careful I am when emptying the tea out, I always make a bit of a mess, so the garden would be a good place, especially as tea is such a good garden fertiliser. Diana (Taylor) said that I've got so many now, that I could wallpaper the house with them! What an excellent idea. If I left the tea in them, it might provide some insulation as well!

Happy 11th anniversary WOYWW,
