Productivity and the Crop

Remember at the Zoom Crop where a lot of you sat still and enjoyed the moments? I was making up cards. It stopped me being nervous and talking too much and hogging the airwaves. If you were at the Crop you’ll know that I had previously coloured and cut out a bunch of Janet Klein images (my current thing, and it wasn’t my fault. Soojay made me and Neet made me worse.* cough cough*)
So whilst we were listening and chatting, I put them together, the aim was to use scraps and random die cuts knocking about in my er, random die cut folio (that Kelly made me make).

I managed a few. They are with one exception, pretty basic, but they achieved their objective. I can’t say though that my scraps are much diminished! I inherited a huge range of coloured card blanks that really aren’t very ‘on trend’ now, but I’m still like them and it saves double matting when you’re on a roll, huh! I’ve included the odd bit of ephemera that I’ll likely never use on a scrapbook page, waste not....
This card took way longer than I wanted it to, but once you start....! It utilises the leftovers from a sticker alphabet from a Basic Grey collection. Basic Grey haven’t produced scrapbook paper for some years now, so the stickerinessness of the letters was a bit dubious. So, to ensure that the recipient of this card doesn’t open an envelope filled with letter shaped confetti, I used a glue pen.I’m so so glad that I was listening and talking to you whilst I did this, otherwise I’d have noticed that I’m not really patient enough to do this sort of thing. Now here’s a thing...I only use papers I like, which means that saving the scraps to use is important to me. So if you get ever get a card from me and it looks like the scraps off my table...it probably is, and scraps or not, I liked them enough to use them again! The plain pieces of card that are scrap from stamping are a whole different matter and frankly, that’s the area I need to concentrate on in terms of using up scraps. Thinking caps on, and remember, it has to be simple and quick!

Good morning, Julia!

Simple and quick! Huh? Don’t think I can help with that... I never do anything “simple and quick.”

I also save scraps. I have a 12 x 12 plastic accordion file. Scraps are sorted by color families. Mostly sold color scraps as I haven’t been successful making any scrapbook pages. I do have a room full of photos that are begging to be done..... if you are ever at a loss for “what to do on vacation...”. Come crop with me! You can even make up the stories for the pages you do for me! Sound like fun?

Love you!

Now you see why I don't make cards. These adorable beauties must have taken time to color, then fussy cut. I like how you chose certain die cuts and background paper to make a cohesive card front. These are all so charming. I have NO idea how to make an easy card. I have no idea how to make a creative card. I DO love what you have done, though. You need lots of die cuts and scraps, which you have certainly used.

I couldn't have worked on art during the crop if I'd wanted to. My office is in a different part of the house than my craft room. I always worry when I see people having their keyboard sitting next to paint and glitter. To me that is a disaster in the making.

Great cards Julia and yes your comment about the words feeling contrived did make sense. I only use papers I like, but I keep ones I don’t like in the hope they will magically appeal to me. 🤣. I I doesn’t happen of course. Today I have been having a blast with old ink pads. I tried using them a couple weeks back and they were not much good. I bought them in a sale at 70p each, years ago. I had some sheets of card for A6 which I don’t tend to make anymore and I thought I would have a play. I had so much fun I used up loads of card. I am so frugal I rarely play like that and I should do!. Angela #5 this week.

I have loads of scraps too, I think we all do... I have boxes of coloured card blanks too, even used some this year as I am running low of the size I needed in white... I'll show you all one WOYWW... Well done on the card assembling during the crop - I don't think I've ever known you actually "do" anything at a WOYWW crop (apart from the important things like mingling and making sure everyone is fed and watered); so a massive well done!!

A delightful series of cards, Julia. I didn't realise you were working while also keeping us entertained - I'm not able to do that sort of multi-tasking! I used to love Basic Grey - I noticed they disappeared quite a while ago - I wonder why? I still have some of their papers that are just too precious to cut use! Happy Sunday! I only popped back to get the links to people who visited my blog since Wednesday and spotted your new post! xx

What a great idea for leftover letter stickers! I was just complaining about my leftovers last week, looking for ideas. Thanks for the tip!

Well done Julia, great card collection. I really need to do something with all the scraps that I have, just need a bit of encouragement but they are getting out of hand Lol! Sending hugs, Angela xXx

Ha! I have a box of Basic Grey that I still hoard. There were a few collections that I just loved. I also have a box of Rouge de Granche and Bizous Zoo papers that I dole out in small snippets. I suspect someone will end up lining my coffin with them LOL!And stuff the pillow with all the stickers - I won't be worrying about comfort, will I? Loving thosecards and the images - they are just slightly more to the cute side than my fave Stampotique ones. I'm tempted....

I love your cards and your Janet Klein's cute little figures. No one else in my world seems to though. Next year I might do more art journalling & less card challenges so I could accommodate them perhaps. Hmmmm..... Christmas hugs, Sue. x

Glad I contributed to the (ahem) lessening of the scraps. Some lovely cards there Julia, you will never be stuck for a card to send to a female now.
Hugs, Neet xx
