Me and my iPad.

As you know, to make up for the appalling misunderstanding over the Christmas present of 2010, (a short post about which can be found in Jan, 2011 archive) this time, Mr Dunnit out did himself and utterly insisted that I choose and order myself an iPad. Well, guilt was finally over-ridden by need, obviously, and so I honoured my wedding vow to 'obey' and ordered one.
I love it. I do. I am frustrated by the some of the things that Apple doesn't support on this gadget (Flash for example), and I'm even more frustrated by the apparent lack of cooperation between Apple and Google/Blogger. Commenting on a blog post where the the comment box is embedded at the foot of the post is almost impossible.. The keypad freezes and I can't correct anything, backspace or 'submit' without leaving the blog and coming back to it for each correction. A double argh! I took it into the Apple store and received admirable attention. But no solution.
But the plus side of course, is everything you think it will be. I under-use the capability without a doubt. On account of my lack of capability. I love that I can screen shot ideas when I'm browsing; at the crop tomorrow for example, I have LO sketches to hand without having to print them. Likewise directions, receipts etc.
I like the iBook thing that turns it into a Kindle. But bigger. And heavier. But you see what I mean.
I'm not keen, but I use the Facebook App rather than direct through the browser - cunning really, the App
hasn't forced me to use Timeline. I have a whole page full of Apps now, some I actually use! I still play Tetris, and now it's on iPad, it's actually big enough for my distinctly middle aged eyesight and fat fingers!
I love the Camera, the way it can turn around and photo the photographer..alarming but clever.
My biggest love though, about this well designed tablet thingy, is this: I can sit in my armchair and use it. Which means that I can sit in the same room as my lovelies....even if I am ever so slightly not engaged! Now, is that logical-ised bone idleness or a really good point?

Have a lovely weekend. If soggy. Again.

As I'm reading this on my beloved iPad, I fully understand your love of it and your frustrations. But all that said ooohhhh I wouldnt be without for all the world lol.

Ha ha ha! I'm reading this post on mine too! I've had mine for a month and I already love it far more than I should! There are annoying bits to it but being able to check the (cyber) world is still there is invaluable!

I'm not reading this on my ipad because I don't have one. But I do have an iphone and I love it to bits! I'm not reading this on that either though!

Is an iPad thingy like one of them new-fangled cordless telephones?! hee hee I'm so not into technology (she says from her computer). Are you going to be one of those people who share photographs of everything now? The view from my chair, the view from my couch, the view from my kitchen table, the view from my toilet, my room, my kitchen, my shoes, what I'm eating, my dog, a ladder in the grass...

Beam me up Scotty next? :) Have a super weekend.

Sent from my faithful laptop - so much sweeter than a desktop.

Oh I feel so out of date now that I only have a desktop. Does my iphone make up for it a little. Have fun with your new toy.
Have a great day
Sandy :)

Jealously isn't a nice quality is it?
Hmm...well I haven't got the latest anything here! (Going for the sympathy vote here)
My camera has it's bottom falling out, my phone is an old handed down one from my daughter ~ no androids here...and my laptop is due it's bus pass soon.
The trouble is I love them all and they've served me so well that I can't just abandon them and move on...can I???

One more reason why I really MUST change the comment box on my blog. It is especially true now that blogger no longer allows me to show the number of each comment. Of course, the reasons you love it are yours. I suspect that same bone idleness would interest me, too!

Sounds awfully comfortable! I'm thinking of getting one, but I'm afraid that with it, and the addicting Pinterest, I wouldn't leave my chair for days!

Interesting!

I don't have an "i" anything, except ME! xxx

The kids at Sunday school, the members of my craft club at the day care centre and the people from when I do my roving reporter bit all love it when I show them the photos I've taken of them or the video.
No longer having to go to my pc to check my emails is a plus. Being able to browse through my reading list of blogs and leave comments is another plus and emailing things/pics i think will be of interest to people at the press of a button no matter where I am is brilliant.
One downside is I've got a rather expensive camera that I've not even pulled out the bag yet cos I use my iPad all the time.

...t'was an interesting read Julia & a shame a gadget (with all the uber clever brain boxes out there) can't be invented that just does it all...I would loVe an Apple but it will have to remain on my wish list and my trusty ole laptop does serve me well, writing from my duvet with me morning cuppa whilst the rain lashes down infact...have a fabby weekend with your new toy...Mel :)

I'm loving the post and all the comments girls, its interesting to see both sides. I am sat on the fence at the minute about an iPad! The great things sounds err great but the downside are winning! What is it like with your photos? Apple are too controlling with sharing stuff too. I'm a control freak! Interesting post though Julie x

I want one!!! I haven't got an i-anything don't really need a smartphone but would like an i-pad for browsing from the sofa - it's only across the room to my desktop (no laptop here!) but it means crouching on the uncomfortable stool (2 cushions now needed!!)but for now it will have to do.. enjoy!

For a long time I admired and wanted an iPad but thought I couldn't justify the cost ... in the end when version 2 was about to come out John persuaded me to get one (bless him) - I love, love, love it. I still use my PC for a lot of my surfing etc but the iPad is so good, as you say, Julia, for sitting in the armchair and quietly using it. I take it with me when John has hospital appointments - so useful - I wouldn't be without mine even though I still think that it's a luxury. x

I agree with it all! Sometimes if you come out of the comment box by closing down the keyboard and go back in it unfreezes - only sometimes! Frustrates the hell out of me.

Hi Julia, I have to say this is one of the best posts I have read for a long time. My DH wants me to have an i-pad now that I have joined the world of blogging but I am steadfastly resisting - I don't have an i-anything and I surprisingly don't envy those who have (is there something wrong with me!). Love my computer (when it works) and my old fashioned phone - but when they bite the dust, you never know.........Anne x

Hi gang all the pics on my blog have been taken using my iPad including the header pic. Hope that helps anyone dithering about getting one.
The 3shop are offering the iPad2 for £65 + £25/month for 2yr contract just now.

Ah yes, the same room as the lovelies...a very important factor, says she who just hauled down an armload of stuff to work on in the kitchen, so at least I am on the same floor of the house. I covet your ipad. Sorry, but it's true. Our budget is not undergoing scrutiny by our local politicans and if I have a job at the end of their delibertions, I will be buying an ipad. You know, for all the stress of wondering if I will be employed over the last three months (how's that for a rationalization?). Congratulations on your new toy, er, tool!

Does it replace the laptop/PC? I must admit I have been thinking about saving one or even getting a laptop (and I hate laptops) to replace my PC when the time comes(hopefully not for a few years) Same reason. Confined to my desk. Would rather have my desk full of craft stuff than a big PC. Craig could use something portable of an evening and sit somewhere else rather than hogging my desk etc, etc, etc...

Another jealous bum here.

How exciting to have a new toy to play with! I have had a long and meaningful relationship with my macbook pro for almost 3 years and love it more now than when I first got it! I'm very tempted by the ipad but as I have an iphone as well, not sure I really NEED it ... doesn't stop me wanting one tho .. lol! Have fun playing : ) x

It's definitely a good idea to be able to sit in the same room as your lovelies - that way they can't talk about you haha. How fab to have an ipad though Julia, lucky girl :-)

It very interesting post about the me and iPad. The number of app will entertain the users. It is all depends upon the app used in iPad devices. My close friend has various app like Facebook, wedding app, games etc.

I sit next to my lovely all the time but with my lappy. I can't get on with the iPad, clever as it is, so he bought for me but he uses it! I just can't type on the darn thing. It must be frustrated with the lack of use and capability!

Well Julia, I can't thank you enough, I've been asking questions and all I get is yeah we have one, yeah it's great etc..I've read the comments too and guess I'll make the decision. Wanted to get one for my husband's birthday end of May as it frustrates me that he only uses the PC I do all my blogging on..contest deadlines, he's got it tied up. Most info I have is not on my laptop which I like but just not as handy and he won't use the laptop. Debate was Nook, Kindle, Acer, Ipad...we don't read novels so the first 2 weren't the answer, and I think it would be much easier to travel with than the heavier laptop which I have to drag a wireless keyboard and mouse along.
SO I think I'll be checking out the IPAD..maybe just for me and then I'll share.
