In January when I was flushed with the idea of new beginnings and the thread journal and how amazing it will be to maximise my leisure time to craft in ways other than cutting and sticking, I got carried away. Surprise! I bought a big red cotton (prolly) tablecloth in the January sale at IKEA and declared that every time a guest ate at our table, they should sign the cloth with a sharpie and I would embroider over it for the posterity of 2023.
Well, I'm delighted to tell you that after completely forgetting from January to mid May, it's now in use and operation! There will have to be some retrospective signing, but hey, nobody's perfect. I've made a wobbly start as you can see. It's a big tablecloth and boy, it's warm to sit under, so I might actually consign it to the 'winter projects' basket. *cough* (There is no basket, and if there was it would be the 'basket of procrastination' and I can't consign it to anywhere because it needs to be on the dining table for people to sign...talk about about a millstone badly conceived plan!
So there we are gentle Deskers, that's me again. Still enjoying the company of my American Sissy and therefore enhanced visits to and from other fam; it's been fab and so far it's only rained at night....her re-anglicising continues apace and at this rate she'll go home with the idea that English summers are warm, bright and long! On that basis please forgive my sporadic attendance last week. I know a few of you are on holiday, hope you're having the best time! Join in if you can, show us where or what, that will be lovely.

That's a great idea, but I see the flaws in your plan!! I am glad you are having such a lovely long visit from your sister and hope the weather continues to extend her re-anglicisation!
Despite being on holiday from work, I am still waking (without alarms) at work time which is .... frustrating! so here I am, early! Helen xx
What a project. Sounds more like an end of the year project to me. But it also sounds rather daunting, especially since I don't sew by hand.
Glad to read your sister is still there and your BIL is probably going to bring an air conditioner if he ever decides to visit again in the summer.

Oh my I tend only to get a table cloth out at Christmas and still no one extra at the table then. Son is planning a visit soon so that will be nice. Don't have the family like you, just the 3 of us really, well only 2 now most of the time! British Summers are really warm these days, it's not an illusion I'm really struggling. Hope you get some of the table cloth done before it is consigned on the table! Hugs BJ#6

What a wonderful idea....If only I had one all those years ago. Having eaten lunch on Sunday at Mark's and tea at Amy's my cloth would have to me a mobile one :-)

Mmmm, I can see that project taking a while, not least if it isn’t on the table. The amount of visitors we’ve had lately it would still be a blank canvas. Well this has taken me so long I am in desperate need of a cup of coffee. I believe you use an iPad - do tell me the secret of using it effectively! It’s a lovely idea, but would getting them to sign patches you could embroider and sew on to your tablecloth work? It saves having to take it off the table for so long.

Our group Dames in Spain had a large tablecloth embroidered with the names of members. We used it on our table at meetings etc Wonder what will happen to it now the group has folded.
I love this idea so much! Late, cause, well, Weds. is sometimes also knitting, but determined to cath up today and not let it drift to the weekend! I have a great tablecloth, gifted from The Hubster's aunt, very 50s kinda cartoon-y style, of the USA and I feel like (if we ever had visitors) it would be so fun to have them sign the states they are from. Although, to be fair, I feel like it would be cluseres of the east coast, and a handful from Cali. So maybe not so good after all LOL! Off to catch up.

I love the idea of the tablecloth but that's quite a project/task Julia! HOoray for starting it!
