What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 748

My Kathy friends are enduring a long journey home. I really hope it was worth the travelling; I think we've had an epic week! We've visited loads, and realised that for first time visitors to the UK who don't know it at all, working out the 'must see' and trying to squash it all in can create sensory overload ! We scheduled ourselves a desk day.

#1 Kathy started it off by going through my Christmas stamps. I'm delighted to report that she doesn't think I have that many. She found a couple that she wanted to stamp and take images home. That led to getting the versa ark and PearlEx out to colour some solid images, something I haven't done for ages. Meanwhile, I fell seamlessly into demo mode and #2 Kathy learned the art of embossing. I pottered about and made a Christmas cake. I really did! Then I remembered that my few silicone moulds were to be loaned to a friend next week, and in the best tradition of not wanting something until you haven't got it anymore, I pressed some air dry foam into them..you can see them there, looking a bit like overworked cookie dough. It's brown air dry foam and will have to be painted before use. There's some open packets of beads at left, #2 Kathy brought them with her and we made these really cute candle decorations. It has given me hope for beading.
As I type this, we are on the second day of no Internet provision.  Virgin Media send us a text message telling us when it will be restored. And then of course, as the time passes, so they just send another one! I'm using a teeny bit of logic and thinking that if I schedule this for the latest time we've been given, then it will post at any point thereafter when the connection finally resumes.

  1. Now that was a surpruse. I am early I know but didn't expect there would be no one else here yet. Sounds like you've had a busy time so I should have a woyww rest now. Take care and have a good week. Hugs Angela x1x

  2. I left a comment earlier and POOF, I got a Whoops. When I tried to reload, I was taken back to 747. When I finally came back, your post and Mr. Linky were up. Frustrating. Not as much as it must have been for YOU, though.

It's great the two Kathys got to have some much anticipated trips while in England. I fear one week wouldn't have been enough for me. And nice to have a day of down time, too. Sometimes there is overload. You are a super host, dear friend.

  3. Already made your cake?? Blimey. I'm still focused on both the trip home and Thanksgiving, not to mention DD's birthday. THIS is why I don't think of Xmas till the last weekend in November. Always so late....
Don't believe your friend. You have a LOT of stamps. Well know it. :D

    Happy desk-hop day!

  4. Well I am glad the Internet allowed you to post this morning. It's so frustrating when it doesn't work. How did we manage without it? You sound to have had a busy week of crafty and touristy activities. Well done on the cake! x x Jo

  8. What a fun post, glad you had your friend visit and got to enjoy time together. Lot's of interesting things to share together. Sounds like a fun time.
I lost a close friend and classmate this week, funeral will be Friday, She had liver cancer, did the radiation was told would help 1 to 2 years or so, if she refused it only 6 months, so she went thru 2 weeks of hell by doing it and at the 6th month died.
Hoping you get your Internet settled. Frustrations with computers has about taken me down. I need to get photos off mine and send to Shutterfly or whoever...lacking storage/ ENJOY a great weekend. Even if it's just rest and relaxation. Hot here 80's yet. Leaves are changing colors.

  9. Ah lack of internet was the reason we were all commenting with a ? earlier. Looks like I just missed the post then as I went back to bed having been awake since silly o'clock cooling down from hot mode! Adore the bead candles had to enlarge display to 500% to appreciate them in detail. Hugs BJ#16

  10. Good morning Julia, well done for making your Christmas cake. I think they are supposed to be steeped in brandy for a couple months - not that I ever make one because neither of us like rich fruit cake. I don’t eat either mince pies or Christmas pudding, but My husband likes mince pies. Being without the Internet is such a pain! What actually is your mould? Do you find the clay successful in them? Happy WOYWW. Angela #9

  11. It's going to be real quiet round Dunnit Towers this week!
Glad you took a day off . . . the less you show them the more reason for the 2x Kathys to come back!! lol
Loving those candles . . do you have a pattern? just asking as I am now trying to get to a Community Cafe up the road every week . . it is uphill and nearly kills me but they don't seem to mind the heavy breathing!! . . . and something like that would be really good to do together.
    Well done on the cake . . . .
    Enjoy your week

  14. Sounds like you had a lot of fun with the Kathys! It's funny how when the internet is down these days we almost don't know what to do. Not too long ago we never heard of it! It doesn't take long to get used to something new! Those Christmas candles are cute! Have a great week, Lindart #19
