What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday 606

The thing is, I’m not even aware of the speed of time any more, it’s just going too fast! Come with me on a leisurely journey around the desk then....
As you can see, I’m in the middle of a scrapbook page, I haven’t stuck anything down at this point, but this afternoon is looking good for another session. The text is a direct quote from our very own LLJ. And the card is a beautiful cross stitch example of a card she made. No wonder it’s going in the scrapbook!  So the scraps to the right are bits from which I’ve cut some tag shapes. Papers are from the 6x8 book of Vintage Christmas designs by Simple Stories, you can just see the cover. In the gloom of this early day, you can clearly see the fluorescent box cutting knife laid gently and neatly on my little drawer unit. No idea why. I use a scalpel; this animal is a bit heavy handed, even for me!  In front of that, propped up waiting for my attention is a set of calligraphy felt pens. Instagram desker, Kathy, will be pleased to see them. They signal intent Kathy, those books are about to teach me something! Please excuse the empty coffee cup. I didn’t even remember it was there till I uploaded the photo!
Now please upload your desk pics, we wanna see. Also, whilst you’re doing as you’re told, please continue to stay warm, safe and away from illness. If you’d like to hook up for a chat, please say so in the comments, it’d be a pleasure!

  2. Morning missus! Calligraphy, perhaps? I knew that that quote must have been from Jan. further to that I am pretty sure when we arranged your set of paper dolls many years ago she said “I don’t really do paper rafting...” so she has been dragged right along by you. Ahh friendship!

And me? I love a good Stanley knife! No fiddly little blades will do....
    Happy Woyww!

  3. Morning Julia. Well, I made it this morning! Not sure "clothed and in my right mind" quite describes things... but there we go. Jan's card is exactly right to go on a scrapbook page. Trust you continue to be safe and healthy.
    Take care. God bless.

  4. Fab idea for the layout, I am not sure I believe Jan when she says she doesn't make cards, though!! I promise I am taking care and staying safe. Happy WOYWW Helen #4

  5. What a gorgeous LO so simple but oh so striking. Should have realised the sentiment was LLJ but the card threw me! I really ought to make more use of all my plain white 12x12 sheets, but I'm addicted to colour and of course I'm including as many photos as poss. per page as it's my photo album. Hmmmm.

As for warm I forgot to open my windows last night, woke boiling and then noticed radiator is ON too - OH NO. Such a hot woman is me - STILL.

  7. things that turn up on a deskers desk, and things that don't! Mysteries of life! thanks for a semblance of consistency in this world, where right now it feels like something for sure is missing, and we don't know what it is.

  8. I'm loving the idea of a Jan page. I've saved all my special Christmas cards but, as yet, I can't decide what to do with them.
I'm glad you're staying safe and well my friend....please continue to do so.
    Hugs,

  9. Happy WOYWW! Your layout design is looking great. Enjoy your crafting session later. I hope to be in the craft room myself, making the decision to add more or not. I have just realised I forgot to add about Daler and Rowney sending me a new tub of glaze. Have a great week Angela #9

  10. Oh that page is so cool!! Actually, is there anything Jan can't turn her hand to? I love the idea that your pens signal intent - t's why I don't really like putting presents or new purchases away - I forget I wanted them for some reason! Always up for a chat, maybe going forward we could schedule some more but it shouldn't all fall on you. How quickly the time is going!! Love n hugs, Cindy #14 xx

  11. Happy to be your Muse! But I stand by what I say, you make layered, embellished detailed cards, I just slap a bit of something onto card stock - there is a diffference! It’s a fun LO though 😁

  12. Not sure that quote is exactly true. She means she does make cards but not particularly papercrafting ones - although she can. It's like me saying I don't sew/knit etc - I can but the motivation is lacking. Still if it helps you make a beautiful page we will believe in what she says.
    Stay safe and well Julia

  13. Hi Julia, great layout - and from the cards I have seen on Jan's blog, she does make cards, and very nice ones too! Ooh I'll be interested to see what you do with the pens - one of my girls bought me a calligraphy set and a couple of books a while back, and I have started playing in my journal with them. You'll never lose that knife - what a fabulous colour! My first car was a yellow one - so easy to spot on a car park! Have a lovely week, Heather xx #18 ps. I only just changed my bio photo on my blog - thought it about time I showed my face :)

  14. While you’re sat crafting would it be okay if I came and sat on your sofa and chatted awhile. I promise to bring cake and make my own brew lol.
Have a great week beloved leader.
There’s a surprise on my post this week haha.

  15. Happy WOYWW. I love that LO. I can relate to the quote. I tend to buy cards now, mostly online for direct delivery to the recipient. It is a rare event when a handmade card leaves my craft room. Priorities in life change. Ali x. #19

  16. Perhaps you used the box cutter to open a parcel? Or maybe Mr Dunnit left it there, randomly.

Good old LLJ with the "I don't make cards". In our house we call that a sweeping statement. Mr Morti is very good with those. His first, and most impressive one, when we were just friends was after he split up with his ex and said "I'm not letting another woman within 12 feet of me". Hmmmm. Within 6 months we were living together and we've now been married for 7.5 years! Hah!

  17. It's going to be a brilliant layout - and certainly the card needs preserving and displaying!
Enjoyed the tour of your desk...

  18. I'm late this morning so need to be quick as dogs waiting for their walk and we can't keep them waiting can we. I would love to see this layout when it's finished as it's looking really interesting and as it's not something I do myself I always love to see what you get up to too. Better get on. Back later. 19. Morning Julia,
That is a lovely layout and a beautiful card, and it made me smile this grey, grim morning! Good luck with the calligraphy - I would dearly love to master that skill but you might as well ask me to write a paper on Quantum Physics - it's just not in me!
    Have a great week,

  20. Happy Scrapping! Looks like a great start to a fun page ~ I have a book on handwriting, and I bought the pens and I may have done lesson one... now where is that book and pen? maybe I'll try again in 2021 if you inspire me! ~ no pressure ~ Enjoy your week!

  21. The scrapbook layout looks great and what a lovely way to save Jan’s card. I’ve finally made some cards this week and actually enjoyed doing it. Dreary weather here after the snow so no walking today.

  22. Hi Julia, love that scrapbook page, great design and snappy title and what a lovely way to keep the beautiful card from Jan. I always keep my "special" cards, thinking I'll do something with them, maybe bind them together into a little book with photos of the people they came from ... but I've been saying that for ten years now and never carried it through. Hey ho, I'll get around to it one day :) Have a lovely week. Annie C #34

  23. That quote in combination with the card... you make me laugh! (And LLJ does!) HOw wonderful to make a layout out of that! I stop by to see how you're doing, I assume you are not ill 'cause your desk looks busy and you sound healthy and well, thank god! Stay safe overthere Julia, big hug-from-a-distance! Marit #31

  24. Julia, I am NOT a scrapper and I make cards very well either! LOL BUT....I love how this scap page is starting out! Especially with the needlework as a focal point! Which, by the way, is a pretty AWESOME card LLJ!! It would seem that you DO in fact make cards! LOL I have a lot of "intent" going forward this year and I hope all of those intentions play out! You stay safe, warm and healthy as well Julia! Many blessings to you! Felicia, #33

  25. Good Morning Julia, Ooh I love the page you have under construction the art is very cool and the humor is fun :) do you know what caught my eye about your desk today beyond that though? the fact that your glue gun is standing upright. that looks pretty handy to me. ( I tend to lay mine on the top of a shelf that is under the table and so, I am used to it but, I really like how yours is set up) ~Stacy # 36

  27. Hi Julia, that’s a fun layout! I’d be interested to see how your calligraphy pens work out. I have some Pixma ones I find too scratchy.
And yes, doesn’t the week whizz past nowadays.
    Stay safe and happy WOYWW

  28. I can remember more than at least three times, looking at my pictures of woyww just to see if I counld see the 'thing' I'd misplaced. Sometimes it worked! I love tags and bits left over either get cut into some or put by to be stuck on to them. Lovely start to the layout. I am still in the thinking stage of making one, although I have, since I returned to blogland begun collecting paints and inks. Stay safe Keep Crafting Happy woyww

  30. It sure looks like a card tho : D. What a wonderful layout for LLJ's card. Also delightfully crafty desk. The box cutter is a bit of a mystery.... gnomes perhaps? Also lookit me posting while it's still light out :D

  31. That is going to be a simply lovely page when done. Jan's card really does deserve preserving. Coincidentally, on my other desk there's a pile of cards that feature handmade works of art, including Jan's. I need to think of a way of preserving them too. Oh, and a scalpel and me would be a dangerous combination! Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #32

  32. Hi, Julia!
I am trying to clean and find some space! Haven't been crafting much because I feel so crowded and confined by stuff! Good stuff, good craft stuff but I feel like I can't breathe!
Good to see those pens. Please show me how you get on with them.

Still quarantined? Stay safe and well!

    Happy Wednesday!

  33. Hi Julia! Nice busy desk today! I love including cards (or copies of cards) that I have received in my journals! Great memories. And if it's a copy, I can reduce it to fit! Glad you are keeping busy and safe! Lindart #35

  34. Hi Julia, If we are talking 12x12 albums and I usually have the post bound ones (I also have a couple are plastic strip/snap ones too). Anyway they usually come with 10 leaves so you can fill that with 20 pages/LOs. I add a further 20 leaves, so 30 leaves in total which is 60 single LOs in each one. Any more and they would become unmanageable in my opinion. I do have a little 8x8 yearly family album and have way more leaves in that one, but the smaller size negates the cumbersomeness. I do have 3 other 12x12 albums for special pages - like my graduation and they only have the original 10 leaves or any more spare leaves I may have left over from refills. So that's how I manage it, I seem to get about a years worth of photos in each one, I'm so trying to cut down what I scrap these days. Would love to know what your DH thinks is too full??? BJ#6 - up rather too late Opsey...

  35. Well you will always be able to see that cutting knife. Don't believe LLJ doesn't make cards! Stay safe. Ani

  36. I love your layout! Jan's card is gorgeous! As to your coffee cup, I take pics of my cards then find on the pic some dust or something and I think, how'd that get there? Anyway, have a wonderful week!

  37. Hi Julia, thanks for the comment over at mine. The weather has changed today and we've got sun, it's lovely and have I got a surprise for you all! I have used the resin and it turned out brilliant! It was a bit scary trying to get it out as the mould is quite intricate but I've done it and will show you next Wednesday. Have a lovely day. Hugs, Angela xXx

  38. A nice busy desk as always, Julia. I agree, the time is simply racing away these days. Thank you for your visit - glad you like my squares. Fortunately that parcel survived more or less intact!
