Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year.
Here in Britain we’re all in serious lockdown again. It’s all been a bit sudden if not unexpected. My sister and I have decided that it feels as if we are in an episode of Dr Who! Please continue to be careful won’t you. Stay at home and look at desks in intricate detail. Gaze and wonder at quite how much fits so precariously onto one space.
There’s been some genuine card making, and ‘dumping on the nearest surface’ and some ‘put them on my desk for my attention’. This photo is yesterday afternoon just as the light disappeared. There’s a card on top of the box of pens, and a card on the cutting mat, both now finished. They were being kept apart for reasons of diamond glaze drying. At the left is a really lovely gift box with a really lovely iPad sleeve in it, a lovely Christmas gift. The box is so nice that I’m considering using that as a sleeve for the sleeve. It’s resting on a basket of stamps and a stamp positioned and other bits that I have brought through from the other room. Now these two cards are finished, the idea is that all the ink pads, stamps and other base ingredients go into the basket for carrying back to their homes. We’ll see. On the far right is a pile of Christmas cards, recently moved from their display and waiting for me to go through and re-read and enjoy. The majority of them are hand made which is a real buzz. Their arrival over the last month has really reminded me of the joy of unexpected happy post! They are resting upon my new deckle edge guillotine. I’m enjoying it. But that makes three that I like to have at hand. They are room greedy!
If you show me your desk, I’ll promise to tidy mine up and write something more interesting!
I am so pleased that I am not the only one who practises ‘dumping on the nearest surface’ and ‘put them on my desk for my attention’... or 'pop in a handy receptacle as they are sure to come in - but which receptacle was it when it's needed'...
ReplyDeleteHummm. Is that iPad sleeve with a photo of you and your....cousins? I feel I am having some deja vu here, don’t know why. And a decile edge guillotine sounds lovey. I have a trimmer with a deckle edge blade that I quite like but always up for a bit of shopping. My desk is dead boring, it’s so clean, but I an now ready to work again so that’s good.
ReplyDeleteHappy Woyww my dear.

Happy New Year Julia. Love the idea of leaving the sleeve in the box as it's so nice. Lockdown is different in schools this time as we have to provide live lessons for all our classes. We also have to contact the parents all the members of our form that aren't in school each week by phone or email to see how things are going. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #3
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your lockdown. Our area is doing good on dropping to all lower numbers. We even went for a Pizza and beer the other night. Ohhhhh so good. Not many people anywhere out and about, roads are quiet, except for getting off work time. Weather mild and decent. I'd love to have that heater right now, my feet are freezing. You've lots of busy paper on that work space.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with it and Enjoy a great week.
wow, you are early today! I love the busy-ness of your desk today, and agree that the box is much too nice not to save . I've been on a card-making kick too. the deckle edged guillotines seem to be multiplying, I keep seeing them everywhere! Happy WOYWW Helen
ReplyDeleteThe only reason my desk didn't look like yours this week is that I had so much stuff on the desks in my bedroom and sitting room that I had to do my studying in my studio.
ReplyDeleteI decided to clean out all the desks in the house and rearrange the files. Why I destroyed them all at one time, I will never know.
If your desk doesn't look like this after serious cardmaking, then IMHO the cardmaking wasn't all that serious! :D)
Be well and stay safe!

The first thing that caught my eye on your picture was the pellet burner, please can I come and have a warm round it. My resolution for 2021 no dumping ground and try and be a little tidy just a little when crafting. Ani (not posted yet).
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year my friend. Your desk is certainly a sight to browse this morning. I feel our visits will be a little longer until all this madness is over or Dr Who arrives to save the world....let's hope it's soon eh?
ReplyDeleteStay safe and well.
Hugs,
Annie x
Happy WOYWW. I was so busy looking at the desk, I didn’t notice the cosy sofas and wood burner straightaway. Have not seen those before. (Watching the tv show about Michael McIntyre, and totally distracted!). Enjoy the tidying up. Ali x. #7
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, I wouldn't know whether I wanted to craft in that room - there are so many things to play with on your desk (I have no idea on diamond glaze) or curl up on the comfy sofa with a good book, and warm my toes in front of the wood burner! The card on top of the pens looks striking, lovely colours. The ipad sleeve box is indeed worth keeping the sleeve in, but maybe get a sleeve for it to keep it pristine lol. Have a lovely week - the lockdown was inevitable, so not quite as unexpected as last time. We will just have to make the most of it - I have added redecorate my craft room to my January list! Hugs, Heather xx #14
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, happy WOYWW. David Tennant is the Doctor Who who is welcome to save my world any time! I have a deckle edge too, though I haven’t used it yet. Since your desk is on wheels you will be able to move closer to the log burner when it gets colder! I didn’t know you could get custom made IPad sleeves - how lovely! Have a great week, Angela #13 Thankfully I am not superstitious (I think!)
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, A busy desk as usual.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a lovely day.
Happy WOYWW

Hi Julia, pleased to see someone else with a messy desk. At this time of the year we would normally be away skiing but obviously not this year. I'm letting the desk rest for a while and reviewing last year's projects to get me back in the mood so my desk may be untidy for a while. I like the look of the new deckle edge trimmer but as I have lots of scissors which do the same thing I will have to give it some thought, it's a shame it doesn't have a mixture of blades to create different style cuts. Take care and Happy New Year......
ReplyDeletehopefully. Angela x19x
Happy New Year Lovely Lady! So much to see and ponder over on your desk today. Is that a wooden candle stick that is on the edge of your desk (looks to be near the wood burner from the photo angle)? I only ask because it looks so tactile.
ReplyDeleteCan we have a close up of the sleeve please, I cannot make it out and everyone is talking about it so nosey Neet want a closer look. Nice pressie wasn't it?
I left my paints out in the hopes that mhy trolley arrives today so my desk is an absolute no go zone today but now I realise I have to paint my journal so ~I think it might be a kitchen worktop desk later on.
Agree with you and your sister - it does feel as if we are in Dr Who and I think I need to go in a less dramatic drama.
Hugs as always 17 Neet (gosh so late this morning)
Happy new year to you and yours Julia.
ReplyDeleteNow there’s a thing I don’t hear every day “deckle edge guillotine”. I may have to go off and investigate that one.
And your pot stove is a thing of joy. Just right for siting next to and rereading Christmas cards. I spend ages going through mine. It’s such a pleasure to do.
Take good care of yoruselves
Love Lynn xx 20
Happy new year! I like the idea of taking the time to look at the desks in detail whilst in lockdown. Also, yep, Dr Who. Did you watch it? Social media here went into meltdown as the Daleks went across Bristol and the suspension bridge! No one knew as they closed the bridge for 'maintenance' last summer!!! Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteKyla
Happy New Year, lovely! Love the idea of a deckle edge guillotine but I have enough trouble with my straight edge ones which tend to bow as they cut and that kind of defeats their whole point! We have a big old rotary trimmer that David brought to the party when we married, and that is my trusty go-to these days.
ReplyDeleteHNY Julia, looks like you were on the nice list this year. Hope you continue to enjoy your lovely gifts.
ReplyDeleteTake care with hugs from Sue #21 xx
Hi Julia, happy new year again! This is my 3rd try to comment today so I hope you’re not going to have to manage 3 entries!
ReplyDeleteI wish I was in a Tardis a) as it’s bigger on the inside and b) so I could go to whenever I wish. I suspect the take-off would do even more quickly what Thea does to the papers left for my attention as she goes exploring!
Stay safe and happy WOYWW

I've just woken up and am all bleary eyed and faced with your photo my head is in a whirl! My eyes did rest upon the wood burner and checked out the sofas and love the union flag cushion. Oh sorry it's not what's on your sofa day! Card making, now that's an idea I ought to pursue. Happy New Year Julia. BJ#24
ReplyDeleteWow, that’s epic even for you! There’ll be a crapalanche soon, lol. I have a thing for keeping ‘really useful’ delivery boxes and then putting them in the recycling a few months later - why can’t I throw them away in the first place?!
ReplyDeleteHugs LLJ 16 xxx
I'm glad I'm not the only one who rereads all her Christmas Cards and enjoys them all over again!!
ReplyDeleteIt's chaos here but order will be restored before nightfall.
Have fun in whatever you're doing

dumping on the nearest surface is what my post is about this week... all in the name of having the living room presentable before Bob got home. Wow... I'm in here at 5 a.m. my time and there's still a line at the door! LOL Looking forward to visiting everyone again. I've missed you all. Creative Blessings!
ReplyDeleteMorning Julia, welcome to 2021. I've mastered the task of putting or moving things over on to other things that have already been placed or balanced on some thing for 'just for now'-later to be there permently, as only this morning, I asked hubby if he could make a table type cover/top to fit over my trolly/dolly on wheels so I could use it as another space to work from. He said no. Because I would only use it to dump things on and then what would happen to all those other things already dumped, when I needed something from one of the Really usefull boxes the new top, would be covering? UMM? I see his point, but it could....hang on? Crash!!.. there goes most of my paperscraps...They seem to like it on the floor. Happy WOYWW (Lyn)#25
ReplyDeleteLot's of great stuff to see on your desk this week! ~ Happy New Year ~
ReplyDeleteI never thought I would live to see the day when my desk is tidier than yours! Lots of activity there - enjoy! Happy New Year - stay safe, Julia! xx zsuzsa #26
ReplyDeleteWow! Your desk is full of creative goodies. Thank goodness for our hobbies to keep us busy during these lockdowns. UGH. Happy WOYWW and Happy New Year. Dorlene #33
ReplyDeleteI am grinning at the chaos I see Julia, and it make me want to poke around and lift up corners :) that is a beautiful sleeve too :) ~Stacy #33
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Julia!
ReplyDeleteYou are a crafting gypsy or nomad perhaps! I don’t know how you manage. I cannot craft elsewhere. Granted I have a rather large space with several rotating vacant spots available but I can’t craft upstairs, say in the evening while watching tv. I cannot craft at crops or in a craft class. No classes have been available locally for years all stores have vanished, no home party demonstrators either. But when classes were available, I’d dabble, making a few bits, but as others were showing off their finished piece, I’d be putting my parts in a bag to take home. Didn’t craft at my daughter’s either. She’d like to get together for a craft day. I’d help her but produce nothing of my own.
Construction, like you have would just about paralyze me. This mess I’m working through from the leak down here is overwhelming!
Enough of my whining! You are a marvel!
Stay safe and well!
Happy Wednesday!
Kathryn
HI Julia! I love the mess! You certainly have been busy, I've been traipsing up and down the stairs as well from one desk to the other. Since my Sundays are for tidying the craft room, my messes have been fairly small, besides it's freezing in my stamp room, a good 5° colder than the rest of the house, which hubby likes to keep at 67°F. Brrrrr. And I like looking out my window at my second desk, which I've been mostly using for my Bullet Journaling. Have a wonderful week! Lindart #35
ReplyDeleteDid I forget to press the post button!? Sorry, I was here earlier, nosing about! Love the fire, that must be cosy. (We have a mock log burner, that has smoke and flames. It fools everyone! We rarely use the heat just the flames.
ReplyDeleteI love boxes. You might have guessed and I found two today (an attempt to clear a space, unsuccessfully of course)Happy New Year 2021! Happy WOYWW, Stay Safe and of course keep on crafting!! ((Lyn)) #25
Sorry I’m late-day just passed by and I didn’t manage to comment. I love your wood burner which was the first thing I noticed in the photo. Busy desk as always but I’d be glad if you could send me some inspiration as mine has run away.😢
ReplyDeleteHappy New year! I love the busy desk and the wonderful fire in the background. Wishing you a happy belated WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#10)
