I took this at nine o,clock last night. You can just see Mr Dunnit’s hand at top left. That book under his hands doubles as his mouse mat and his laptop is on the table in front of him. It’s a table-come-toy box, he made it with a sliding top so that we could chuck toys in it and the end of the day and have a bit of space. At the time we lived in a teeny house. We don’t live in a huge house now, but it’s definitely bigger; and we really should be using a proper coffee table, but hey, we still like the storage-ness of it. It no longer contains toys though. In fact, it just occurs to me that in lockdown, I probably should go through it. Yeah, right.
I made a few cards, as required, and tidied a little before starting something new. There’s a scrapbook challenge to make an ‘aged’ LO, and I’ve picked a photo of me (that’s at least 30 years old) and have decided to try to give it a 70’s vibe by rounding corners and using shades of brown etc. Refer to photo, lots of sand and not so much of anything else!). Tim Holtz, eat your heart out over the browns, baby. Sorry - that is an old joke now; his colour range is very, very much broader than the original 7 shades of wee wee. You can see one of the cards, actually, standing up at left. It’s a Pink Ink design that I’ve coloured with sparkly paint. It’s waiting for me to come up with a ‘finish’. So that’s me on this day. What are you up to? Show and tell please, as always! Put WOYWW in your blog post title and link here as per. Thank you, I thank you.
Morning Julia. Loving the idea you are trying the 70's vibe! They were good times - but yes, brown, brown and brown.... hope your page turns out well.
ReplyDeleteTake care. God bless.
Margaret #1 - however did I do that???
oh that made me smile, I had forgotten about your description of Tim's early colours! I hope you share the finished LO in all it's 70's glory! Take care and stay safe. Helen #4
ReplyDeleteLol! 7 shades of wee. I do remember that. And I always loved that paper with the squares of words. I thought perhaps you were heading towards suggesting putting Mr Dunnit in the storage box! I know at times I’d happily stash mine in one for a bit. But only for a bit. Interesting, as I riffled thru my vintage box of stash recently. All that brown, lots of it, will it ever have the crazy popularity it once did? Someday...
ReplyDeleteHappy Woyww (and Inauguration Day woo hoo)
Mary Anne
I love your description of Tim's early colours. In fact I love a lot about your post today - love the sound of that box to throw stuff in - could be useful in this home. We used to have a drawer for that but when the kitchen was modernised/done up it disappeared. How I miss it.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I love is the Pink Ink Ostrich - always been a favourite image of mine and one I have often thought of purchasing - I went down the giraffe line instead.
Then there's the thought of that LO - would love to see you in the 70's - I think we should all have to upload a photo of when we were children some time.
Hugs, Neet 5 xx
Ah yes, Tim Holtz and the munificence of brown lol. Looks like it's going to be a cool layout. Great looking card too Julia. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #3
ReplyDeleteGood morning Julia, happy WOYWW to you. By the time I got to use Tim’s distress inks there were lot’s of colours. My first inks were red, green and black! Then I bought a selection of tiny ink pads which were disintegrating by the time I tried distress ink. I didn’t have the money in those days! Have fun with your layout - I thought the 70’s were more colourful, perhaps that was the 80’s 🤣. Angela #6
ReplyDeleteGood morning Julia
ReplyDeleteI had a mahoosive tidying up session of a set of drawers the other day and came across all sorts of pens, pencils, tubes of paint and felt tips.
I even found a sketchbook and some watercolour pads so who knows I might start doing a bit of doodling over the next week.
You won’t believe it there’s an actual project on my desk today haha
Take care
Lynn xx 7 (I think)
I'm pretty sure I'd struggle to use 7 shades of wee....reminds me too much about my former job [I used to be an expert in the colour of it back then lol]. It's a lovely photo of you back then so I'm sure it will make a lovely LO....I hope we get to see the finished job.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Annie x
I could do with one of those boxes with a sliding lid. What a good idea. Weren't all our photos of the 70's like that lots of surrounding. Now the selfie has taken over and shows all imperfections! Ani#11
ReplyDeleteLove the slidey top box, great that it now has a good use as a laptop perch, don't knock it and yes go through the contents - LOL.
ReplyDeleteThe "aged" layout sounds "groovy" man! I still round my corners now LOL and use browns and love Tim and found your take on him quite amusing. It all reminded me of the DCWV retro prints paper pad I still have as well. Maybe I should take another break from my day to day and do and old page. I have taken photos of old photos and had them printed so I can do just that, but when? Ahhh sigh! BJ#13
Hi Julia, now there's a thing, that table! Our coffee table is also a kind of cupboard meant to resemble something you would find on an old ship I think and it has drawers and a lift up lid and guess what I haven't been in it for years. I believe it has pot stuff and glasses in it from when we used to entertain when we were working and it's probably time I cleared it out Lol! Nice to see your desk from a different angle too just makes life a bit more interesting Lol! Well anything a bit different makes life interesting at the moment. Take care and craft on. Happy woyww hugs, Angela x14x
ReplyDeleteMorning Julia,
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the 70's a good time for me, my family we young a great time,
hope you will show the result on your work desk soon.
Stat well and safe

Morning Julia, you've really made me laugh out loud this morning - I love your 7 shades of wee - I have to admit to being a lover of 'earth tones' and will forever think of them as that now! Loving the idea of a 70's layout but for me that means mustard yellow - we had it everywhere in our home growing up.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good week, stay safe,
Diana xx #14
Brown has always been a favourite colour... along with orange and all the autumnal colours. They are supposed to be what I should wear having once had my colours done - so have always loved THIS colours and sludgy papers.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading as always...
Happy WOYWW! Susan #12
Love the idea of the table/box with the sliding top - you can never have enough storage - much more useful than a regular coffee table. Also like the idea of a 70's inspired scrapbook layout - although your photo from 30 years ago doesn't quite take us back to the 70s! I still remember the orange/brown curtain in my childhood bedroom handmade by my mum! I wish I had kept a small swatch of it as a memento, but you never think of these things as you go through life. Happy #607, Julia! xx zsuzsa #18
ReplyDeleteMorning from the New Forest Julia. It's raining cats and dogs here. The flowers you've cut round already look better now they're singled out, a bit of Flower Power? groovy man?....peace? Sock it to me baby? Make Love not War? I can remember wearing a bell? Yikes! Or maybe we need to go back even further. Oh no...I've gone back too far! Tim Holtz can do no wrong! but the makes his team comes out with are amazing and 'Out of This World man' I now have a few things since I returned to bloggland. (Charity shops are briliant!) Love the 'bird' card. I should go through Mr D's toy box if \i was you, You might find some treasure!
ReplyDeleteSTay Safe. Keep Crafting. ((Lyn)) #17 (I wish!)
Morning lovely! That tidying up/sorting out it's lockdown thought occurs to me now and again as well. As you say, Yeah right. Love that crazy ostrich, it looks amazing can't think it needs much else. The desk is looking remarkably tidy and purposeful if I may say so. It'll never last. Have a great week, stay well, stay safe, love n hugs Cindy #20 xx
ReplyDeleteBlogger was hungry this morning and ate my photographs, but I have put them back now. I wouldn’t want you to miss my owl :). Angela #6
ReplyDeleteGood morning Julia! I don’t know what time I’d have to wake to be #1 on your list. Last week I woke at 6:00 and was only no 5. I’ve heard you can schedule publication of your own post, but I’d still have to link up. Ah well.
ReplyDeleteYour storage table sounds great in theory but don’t you have to clear it off to open it?
I remember a ghastly pair of brown and mustard hot pants in the 70s. What you can get away with when you’re young eh?
Take care and happy WOYWW
Hugs

Yeah the 70s - some of my best friends still live there, lol!! I remember flares and blues suede platform boots, ah happy days! The LO is going to be fun and reminiscent of those weird square photos that we used to get with the round corners. Hope you’re keeping warm and safe and the storm isn’t affecting you too much. Biblical rain here but missing the worst of the wind thankfully!

Hi! Your ostrich card looks very colorful and her expression is priceless. Have fun creating a 70's page ~ Find some ugly floral or paisley paper that you thought you should throw out and BAM your good! I just cleaned out my bathroom cabinet so you can do the old toy chest ~ Just think of a good reward to treat yourself with when your finished ~ Blessings on your week! Love, Karen
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW. I remember the 70s with lots of brown and orange (we even had bright orange kitchen cupboards!). I definitely couldn't cope with hubby being close by whilst I am crafting. I do my diamond painting in the evening in the living room sometimes (although only when I can just listen to the tv), but definitely prefer the peace and quiet of my craft room or the dining room (especially when the fire is lit). Even the guinea pigs are asleep until around 2 pm, so the only sound is my typing and the tumble dryer a few rooms away. Ali x #26
ReplyDeleteLoving the posh bird card and your desk looks productive as always. We have a fabric stool that hets used to store allsorts of stuff and sometimes is so heavy that I can’t move it!
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, I saw your question about the resin. There are different types that do need complicated measuring but this type I've used is just 1.1 so not difficult but I've read so many things about people having problems with the mixing but I did it slowly and the bubbles were small which I then dispersed with a heat gun and it worked. Pleased you like the dragon just need to decide what to do with him next though I have a friend who loves dragons and she has a birthday soon so we'll see. Pleased you like the canvas too it'a project from Creative Craft Academy though I have altered it a bit from the sample. Hugs, Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteGood morning Julia (at least in my neck of the woods! LOL) You always give me a chuckle to start my Wednesday! I'd be hard-pressed to find a photo 30 years old! I can't even keep up with photos a year old! LOL Sounds like a cool idea even with those browns! LOL I LOVE that Pink Ink design card! Super cute!! And loving that purple! Good luck with that table..ummm...toy chest...table??? LOL In my book, out of sight, out of mind, therefore....what's in there today would probably be in there 10 years from now! LOL Happy Wednesday and many blessings to you! Felicia #27
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, keep the toy box ... one day you may well need it again! We have two 'disguised' toy boxes in our lounge, and the little monkeys also fill up some of the space in my craft room. I love the posh bird card ... that will look nice in my journal, but I may just draw something similar (who am I kidding, I may just buy something similar lol). I'm looking forward to seeing the 70s layout. Sadly I have no idea what happened to the photo albums my mother kept, of when we were growing up. I have a handful of photos. None of my siblings know where they went either! Have a lovely week, Heather xx #28
ReplyDeleteJi Julia! I laughed at 7 shades of wee wee! Never quite thought of it like that - but boys are so focused on that part of their bodies, so it makes sense! LOL! Your layout is going to be so cool, man! I loved the 70's, when I was a young thin thing! Your LO will be spectacular, I'm sure! Have a great week, stay safe! Lindart #29
ReplyDeleteThanks for trying to explain the words for me, still struggling a bit but mostly got it I think or am I just alluding to the fact! BJ#13
ReplyDeleteHI Julia, I love that he made the storage table for you guys. :) Yeah, we have things that are sentimental to us too ( things hubs received from his gma and such) so, I did grin and it made me wonder what you will find in there. I have an old trunk and I know what is in mine, boxes of hallmark stationary papers and note pads and note books. because, paper has followed me home all of my life. ~Stacy #30
ReplyDeleteThe card is so fun. I love the ostrich..right? LOL. Your desk looks pretty clean today. I’ll look forward to your 70’s vibe layout. Have a fabulous week! Dorlene #31
ReplyDeleteactual sighting of some desk top! tidying comes to us all, no avoiding it!
ReplyDeleteRobyn 32
Hi, Julia!
ReplyDeleteWhew! Big sighs of relief here! We have a new president! Mike and I sat together to watch the inauguration. We’ve both taken deep breaths and feel a sense of hope!
The toy box can hold lots of craft supplies!
Happy Wednesday , stay safe.
Kathryn.
What is that gridded mat under your photo? Does it help with designing a layout? Hope you get your 70s theme figured out. And the card is a hoot!
ReplyDeleteHave a great and healthy week!
Carol N #25
Love the idea of the 70s layout and had to laugh at your description of Tim Holtz early colours. The ostrich card is fab! Happy belated WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#8)
ReplyDeleteI remember my first kitchen in the 1970s - it had a brown and orange theme! I painted a huge mural of sunflowers on the sloping ceiling, with an orange setting sun behind them. I've still got the big orange mixing bowl that I bought at the time! I happen to love the early TH browns. Thank you for visiting - yes, lots of stitching to do with the squares, but it's all enjoyable and worth doing for the final result! I just hope I don't end up giving it to him for Christmas this year! Regarding seeing the GP, that's a bit of a problem too - impossible to get through and it's all too wearisome for words. If things get any worse I may have a go but I'm coping OK at the moment. I think a better approach might be my hubby's suggestion to get in touch with the relevant surgeon direct and give him an update and he might be able to bump me up his list a bit.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated WOYWW,
Shoshi #23
Hello!
ReplyDeletemanaged to link, thank you, and with a #5 . . . maybe not a 1 or 2 but can't have everything! lol
I have the Giraffe, they're very large stamps aren't they? Don't think I've used mine yet, don't know which part to stamp on the atc . . . .
Love the toybox, ours is a plastic container with wheels . . . and a piece of truck rope to pull it along (courtesy of PJ).
have a good week and enjoy your scrapbooking
Christine #3 . . . wait for it . . . 5
Hi Julia, apologies for being so late. Alan had his vaccine this week and has been quite poorly ever since. I enjoyed your post, especially the story of your storage box. Hugs, Elizabeth x #34
