Indulging in time

I have spent most of the daylight hours in my workroom today. Getting ready for the crop tomorrow. It means that during the course of the crop I may very well succeed in finishing all three sets of calendar pages that I've finally pulled my finger out and made ready. In between the gossiping, eating and laughing of course.
I reported this to a friend on Facebook this afternoon and she seemed impressed by my organisation or preparation dedication. I thought about this for a minute and realised that actually, most of the day has just been self indulgent; papers and stash all over the floor, choosing, matching, printing, deciding, settling and finally packing. Apart from my daily chores and a bit of work related phone calling, i have done nothing else. Means that the crop lasts two days really, huh? Now, I'm not feeling overly guilty about it, I must admit. Maybe I should. I can do guilt, I'm certainly not swanning about free of that particular burden. Here's the thing....the guilt will come next week...when I haven't unpacked. Because I've been busy. Because I haven't the motivation. Because I haven't quite got around to needing anything in that tote (wait - is that why i have so many pairs of scissors?)....or, my top argument for consideration your honour...I can't be bothered. Theres no fun in putting stuff away. This is not shocking news about me. If you contribute to WOYWW, you'll have seen photographic evidence of it on a weekly basis for well, over three years. It was an indulgence, it felt like a day off and I really enjoyed it. Well, apart from lifting the tote into the car; good grief that is a test of my prowess as an eastern bloc weight lifter I can tell you.
Anyway, if there's any point to any of this, its to remind you that after all the putting away of decorations and wrappings and getting back into gear with laundry, school plans, resolutions to eat better, become fitter, and all of the normal routine as well, it's ok, indeed necessary, to indulge yourself a little. It doesn't need money or other people, it's harder than that. Carve out some time for yourself. If it makes you happy, it will make everything else you do easier. You'll see what I mean when I brag about those finished calendars.
Have a lovely weekend.

  3. Cleaning? Surely the OCD hyper tidy person you are enjoys putting stuff away?! No? Join the club (its a large one and contains most woywwers!)

    Happy crop!

  4. I can quite happily pass a whole day in my craft room. It does seem a little self indulgent when at the end of the day I remember the one important call I had to make (the phone is right there... what's the problem?) or get irritated when the clan suddenly appear and want feeding ... but I don't do guilty for very long. After all, if I did chores all day no one would notice so why worry? I'm all for a little self indulgence. And your post worked better than my photos today so what are we calling this new diet?
    Have fun!! Cindy x

  5. I can afford to feel smug as I remembered to do the banking and to order the prescriptions online, and actually do those two chores. Tidying up is another matter. I got distracted half way through and spent the afternoon cutting out masks for a new set of stamps. I think I need to develop OFF as far as my desk is concerned. You have given me a good giggle and relaxed me so I am off back to sleep, I hope. Night night. xx Maggie

  7. LOL and I thought I would be the only one asking how that hat tasted. :-) It will be even better when those calendar pages are done. ;-)

  8. I've had trouble with Blogger for days and days, and your hat tastes a lot better than mine.

Happy New Year. I've been reading what I missed for several days. Love that you didn't get all sentimental. And the scenes around your home is so warm and inviting.

Love the card. I wish my cards looked as good as yours. I'm sure if I had more practice, I could make something, but not as clever and lovely as yours.

Have fun at the crop and I'll see you when your calendar pages are finished.

  9. I'll be tackling the tree today and after that the cleaning of the floor. I have been clearing out all week and next week, once I have regained the house, I shall be clearing out my craft drawers. We shall see what we find and no doubt I will loose many an hour!

  10. By now you will be at the crop, and having fun - or at very least unpacking cakes and making tea! I am contemplating taking down my cards today (didn't have decorations, there is no room...) but I may leave them till tomorrow. After all, don't want to rush these things do we? The clear out I kind of started last year never got finished, so maybe, just maybe I'll do a little more this year!
Can't wait to see the finished calendars.

  13. ah yes, time spent in self indulgence, now that is a skill I'm trying to commit to developing this year...

    grow myself some 'no' muscles,

decline some 'offers' of work maybe
    who knows....
glad you're setting us a fine example.

  14. Sounds like an awesome way to spend a day...or two. I decided after WOYWW this week to try and not purchase more scissors, papers, dies etc and to use what I have...damn difficult though when I already see the stuff being used on all my favorite blogs. Maybe I will stick to WOYWW and not do as much blog hopping...who knows. Have fun tomorrow.

  16. Hope you have had a great crop so far...and you could always decide not to unpack the tote and you will be ready for the next crop too!!! Of course that means you have to relax and chat and wonder visiting and admiring all the other work there...and then you could stretch your packed supplies to last 2 crops...It 's just my little timesaver for crop packing. tip

  17. Indulgence - every girl needs it now and then. Be it a bubble bath with a glass of wine, a day in the craft room or whatever. We girls (loosely termed on my part) need it now and then and deserve it.
Enjoy your weekend and crop crop crop.
    Hugs, neet
ps thanks for the comment today and be annoyed at me on Wednesday (if I get it posted) when you see it was scheduled well in advance. The reason is there.

  19. So is that a lo-cal you're munching on? I don't mind putting the stuff away that has a place to go. All 700 pairs of scissors in the desk drawer except the 2 that live in the to-go tote. Adhesives in the desk drawer or tote. Stamps in the stamp cabinet or drawer, blocks in the drawer, inks in their place, uncut papers back in the rack.... The stuff I never know what to do with are the cut pieces for layers, the die cut bits, the small hunks of ribbon, the odds and ends. It is useful stuff but the reality of my actually using it again is slim. I know it is better to have too much cut than not enough for classes but the left over bits flummox me. Maybe for next weekend's class I'll bequeath them to the hostess. And yes, me time is great. I am a big believer in it. In fact if I don't get it I start to hate all of mankind (and womankind too, no gender bias here). Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'd for the last thing I did on earth to be tidying the house... But at the same time it sucks to be allergic to your own carpet. It is all about the balancing act.

  20. Fingers crossed that this comment actually appears. I have managed to get a few comments posted this morning (haven't done anything to the computer!). Well, you must have eaten your hat by now. It is wonderful having the house back to 'normal' - and I have been so excited adding challenges to my notebook, just like I used to. Not sure how I will find enough hours to actually complete it all - but it makes me feel like I am doing something with my time. Ali x

  24. Well, gee whiz, and here's me all these years thinking I was an artist, even though I have Organized Crafting Disease and can't create unless I clean up between projects. Gee.

Hear, hear to your bottom line about carving out time for oneself! The resulting tranquilty and happiness really does trickle down, or up, to everyone!

I hope you had a mahvelous crop!!

  25. a place for everything - and everything in it's place... except it isn't in my craft room at the moment. Mind you - the cat doesn't care - she just plonked herself on my desk tonight - and this is my other cat - so they're both at it!!! Well, once I get rid of the black cat hairs - these next few days will be challenging as I rearrange a few things, while I put a lot more of them in the garage.

I love that image by the way - it should be blown up and put over my desk, with lights round it!!!

    hugs
