A cheap frill for the weekend

Here's another of the 'bumpy cards' from yesterday's workshop, coincidentally posted on the same day that Mary Anne posts this on her blog: - a great edumactionial post about multi layered rosettes....
This frilly card is very sugary sweet huh, and not really me at all, but I quite like it anyway!
And here's a quick review for the weekend. The big pot of glue.  You WOYWWers don't miss much, it is nearly a litre pot and I calculate that I've had it about 14 years.  I bought it when I had a craft shop, from the UK distributor of US ArtQuest products (Woodware).  It's done very well hasn't it?  I don't favour wet glue at all, so only use it as a last resort.  This I think, really is better than PVA - not least because it's already the perfect consistency..and if you're into mixing other stuff into your glues, mica and such 'strates, it's really consistent.  In fact, it's everything it says on the side of the jar.  You can buy it in way smaller quantities, and even then.....it's expensive.  But worth it. If you want to know more, visit US ArtQuest's web site, or befriend Susan Pickering Rothamel on Facebook. She's the genius artistic founder.  Amazing.

And here's something awful for the weekend.  7 Students, all of them in my house.  Notice all the carrier bags?  Full of crappy food - sweeties and fizzy pop.  It's film night chez Dunnit. I asked why the ironing board wasn't put away rather than just pushing it against the drawers....I asked if they'd like glasses, plates....and then I realised that I was probably as invisible as I felt intimidated.  Mr Dunnit and me ain't staying to watch no student humour films.  No sir.  We're fleeing to the relative quiet and food safety of my dearest parents.  We both have to be back home early for work tomorrow - for which I plan to be my best non-invisible self, as you would! They won't seem so intimidating in their PJs!
Have a great weekend!

  3. Couldn't miss the jar Julia, after all it is 6ft tall, almost.
Would be fun to start banging pots around in the kitchen at 7:00am, or is that a touch too far.

  4. I am amazed at how long your PPA has lasted if it's that old - it obviously doesn't dry out... Hope the house full behave themselves - don't they watch films in odd positions.... enjoy your night too.

  6. A sleepover after a night of film. Yep, that is something to talk about!!

I have heard PPA is THE BEST wet glue around. Unfortunately, I don't now and never have owned any. The reason? You pointed out it is very expensive and I've never found it in one of those big box craft stores that honor 40% off coupons (grin).

  7. I think my glue was bigger... yep it is but it went mouldy...(probably 15-20 years old...still have it...it might come in handy one day, but it stays in the garage coz it pongs. Gone are the days when our small bungalow was invaded by the 'students' One New year I think was the last time...we moved out to the caravan...kettle, telly, sleeping bags...I wore my bobble hat...it was that cold!

  10. The rosette card is so pretty and feminine.
It looks like fun was had...but it's amazing because if you're house is anything like mine it's amazing how my voice just isn't on the same level...they just don't hear anything I say unless it's food related! lol
    Have a wonderful weekend :D

  11. Hey they dont care if the ironing board is out and yes they are always grazing, your lucky they supplied their own food. In my house they just raid the pantry and feast non stop. As for being intimidated, not in my house I am a bodyguard and run my own security business, they are intimidated by me. LOL No only joking they love coming here, I just don't take their crap. Anyway off to work for me now very busy weekend I've had and more nightmares to come. It's logies time here.

You keep the upper hand and relate to the tweenies. LOL

    Thanks for sharing your space.

  13. Love the rosette idea, Julia. Hope your house is still standing when you get home. Enjoy your night out - if you can forget the invasion of students at home, that is!

  14. Ah yes! I remember it well and the students my DDs brought home must have had hollow legs as they could eat and eat and never got full!

  15. I'm SO sorry that I didn't see your comment on my WOYWW post until right before I had to turn off my computer because of the storms earlier in the day and the tornado that rained down on my town last night. Of course you may share the tip I gave about the gesso. And I'm sorry I didn't get here sooner to tell you.

  18. Hi Julia,

Yep, I know a goat when I see one..... haaa

The horses all were looking rather ratty with their winter coats so wasn't interested in them so much.

    See you Wednesday!

  22. Woah! 14 years you say???? The glue might just out live you! lol

  23. Hmm - I'm always for trying out a new glue - particularly if it does what it says on the tin... I like the My Craft Studio flower embelishment glue - but litre for litre - that's probably more expensive than rhino horn!!!

Great to see your house full of students who are full of E-numbers lol... better than being full of the other kind of E's eh? :O)

My boys only have to have one friend back here and there is enough noise for 7 people. It's times like that, that I'm glad they sit on their X-box and talk to them using a mike and headphones!

I just LOVE the doily card. SO shabby chic, so girly. :O)
