What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 124

So yesterday morning, I was putting off getting back to the sewing.  It's a right old conundrum - I want to get it done and out of the way, I can't face the difficult bits, I need to wait till the sun has moved around the house a bit to warm the conservatory enough for me to actually consider sitting in there and oh yeah, I have to do it in daylight, my eyesight just won't take the small daylight lamp's heroic efforts at spotlighting the dining table.  SO what to do instead?  Tidy up a bit.  I was going to sort through the scrap boxes and then hit on an idea to clear the corner of the worktop and put the boxes there.  This will buy loads of room for the desk.  And some more stash for sale too.  (There's a link, top right).
It took a ridiculous amount of time and I didn't get to the sewing until after lunch.  But this morning, look - even though the scrap boxes are still hideous, they are off the desk and it looks slightly less cluttered and for once, you get a pic of the whole desk!  The cocktail sticks at front are waiting to go back in the cake decorating tin - I needed three for next year's calendars.  Everything else sort of belongs there.  What's missing is something currently being worked on.  I plan to correct that this morning...I have some pressing Card Marathon creations to get on with, so that's my plan before the sewing needs to be attacked!  My word, I'm in danger of multi tasking!

So what are you up to on your work surface of choice then?  Upload a pic to your blog and link it here, we'd love to swing by for a looksee.  That will include me this week, promise!

  1. I cannot believe you have a lovely brown desk like that - WOWEE indeed. What's that that is white underneath (left) - it looks like a fat table leg? Hope the Manga thingy goes well.

  3. Oh, Julia... shhhh about the "Loved and Used" - once the secrets out, I'll never be able to nab the best bargains first *lol*
Tidying... instead of crafting? Now there's a habit you really should lose *lol*
    Have a wonderful WOYWW!

  4. And the flash lit up the early morning windows! You made a fantastic effort with that desk. I swear it doesn't look like the same desk this week. Way to go, Julia.

  5. Hi Julia, I used to do a lot of sewing but it's moved well down my list of favourite arty things to do. Hope the costume doesn't give you too much angst! You know what I like about WOYWW, apart from meeting nice people and sneak peeking at desks? You can just pop in when you can and no one is going to wield a big stick if you miss a week or two.

  6. Very neat and orderly! Well done. And I'm dying to see the costume done. I can only think of Pikachu and he's not spikey enough to warrant all those triangles. Hove a good one.

  7. My desk is the worst ever, so I am very jealous of your efforts and progress in organizing! MAYBE I can use some of your inspiration and get my behind in gear!

  8. OK, fess up. Are the cocktail sticks from the cocktails you drank while you were clearing off your desk? Tell the truth now, I won't tell anyone.

  9. Oh dear!!!! I do feel bad about the mug. There is just something about a favourite mug full of coffee...starts the day off just right. I'm quite curious now and can't wait to see what those pointy bits create, looks very interesting I must say! And what's with the wanting to tidy???!!! Just askin!

  10. I love that you have a cake decorating tin - that means you must bake a lot! Might have to drop by to taste test!

  13. Wow I'm not sure I have ever seen that much of your desk before, I would love to rummage in all the scraps. Just been checking the bits for sale, I need the crimbo shoe stamp, I'm hoping its still there, I'm off to email, I really like some of the dies but do you know if they fit in the sizzix bigshot? 17. I'm cleaning up my desk today too. For me it gives me a fresh room and, mostly, fresh ideas. Good to hear you want to start sewing. Look foreward to see what you want to create.

  20. Wow, your desk looks bigger now! I think this is the first time I don't see a picture of your desk being lit by sunlight. Looks so different!

  21. Goodness me Julia this is a somewhat unsettling start to WOYWW - a clean desk at your place!! Unfortunately it is the same at mine I had to tidy yesterday for a VIP!! I'm sure it won't take us long to get back to the usual chaos we love to work in - fingers crossed xx

    ReplyDelete
  22. Your desk looks awesome...yikes I haven't gotten the nerve to try sewing on fabric yet. So far I have only tried it for my cards...lol

Have a great WOYWW, xoxo Marjo

  25. wot - no replacement mug? dying of thirst is no remedy for your grief, you could exchange the mug of tea for the G&T?

still, as U2 always said, if you try to drown your sorrows they learn how to swim.

  26. I can see your desk; I thought you just had a pile of craft stash and worked on top as I never saw the desk before! Cake decorating and sewing; is there anything you can't do?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wow, tidiness personified!
I could do with taking a leaf out of your book, my scraps need total reorganisation... I took a pic but didn't post it, maybe I'll tidy it first.
    Have a good day!

  28. I consider it unreasonably that my 3 year old is waking me up and it is still dark outside (6 - 6:30 never truly seems a reasonable time). Your desk looks splendidly ready to go :)

  29. Whoo - nice desk lady! I can't help but feel it's a little like looking at a Victorian lady's ankles..... hehehehehehehe

  34. Good morning Julia, I've just spotted a duster ... you dusted too? I'm happy to tidy things away, as you know, but dusting in my workroom is a major, major operation ... there's just too much stuff to move!! Love the shot of your desk today ... it all looks great. Elizabeth x #56

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow how organised does that desk look!!! it always takes sooo long to make even the slightest impression of a tidy up! x

    ReplyDelete
  39. Your desk looks a lot calmer now! Even a messy desk would suit me, still a small tray makes you work tidier! Enjoy WOYWW!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Isn't it great to have a 'nice tidy desk'!? Trouble is, mine never seems to stay that way for long! lol

RIP favourite mug! :( ( I hate it when that happens)!

And good luck with the Manga costume! Hope we get to pix of the finished product! :)

  52. You're right... there is a certain amount of satisfaction gained when we just clear off a nice tidy spot, even if the moved items are looming dangerously in a pile to the side (looming dangerously, in my case, Lol.) Good luck with all the crafty things you have on your plate... sounds fun!

  53. I think we should have an under our desks feature cos they look mighty interesting. Mine is just the same. Piled up. I can't get my feet and knees under mine and am leaning in at a stupid sangle across desk to type this. What we put up with for the sake of our art!!!! Hugs Mrs A & The Boys.

  54. Good for you Julia! I work so much better with a clean desk..it just doesn't stay that way long.

    ReplyDelete
  55. You obviously need my form of multi-tasking...lots of things being worked on at once, but nothing ever getting finished because new things always come along!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Very nice to see a lovely tidy desk, but I'm concerned that moving the papers "out of sight" might also mean "out of mind"! I've left a couple of comments on your For Sale blog btw. And good luck with the sewing.... or give it to LLJ!!

  59. Never seen your room at night time before!! Like you I've got nothing of real interest on my table this week - in between projects now the exhibition is over. Sorry I was so useless at following up on everyone last week - it was something that had to go by the board as I was flat out finishing projects for the exhibition and then I was too exhausted! I did think about you all, though, and thanks to everyone who visited me.
