What's On Your Workdesk? wednesday 778

I'm not actually here, so this is scheduled. Please bear with as I travel and erm, sunbathe...the internet test will not happen before Wednesday evening, Euro time!
This is how I left it. Not too untidy really! The Coven bag contains old fashioned sticks of wax with wicks for making seals. I've caved in and joined the current wave by buying a little crucible to melt the wax. No more the lighting of a wick and letting the suddenly molten wax drip all over the place, no! Now I just have to scrabble about and find a genuine tea light (I seem to only use the false flame battery variety these days) and the seals are as good as done. Huh. I use small stamps instead of expensive seals, just ink them with an embossing ink first, the glycerine protects them and the set wax residue just pulls off. Very satisfying. Knowing how long to leave the wax before stamping into it in the intaglio style is the skill. Obviously, I haven't acquired it fully and so I've been trying. Cliche alert...very trying! I had thought that it might be fun to get the workshoppers to make their own seals for a card that's currently in development, but that's a big fat no at this point....too many variables; real flame, hot burny equipment and someone else's premises. I mean, what could possibly go wrong!
I'm still filling in the makes on the journal pages, although it has only had 2 cards added to it in the last week or so. I won't be creating a page to keep track of the wax seals.....

I would be insanely grateful if you would take the time to read my last post, it's about WOYWW, Crop, ATCS. It's just
HERE and is untypically short and to the point. Ish.
I hope you find inspiration on the desks this week, I'll be searching for mine at the bottom of a glass of Sangria! See you at your place!

  2. How perfectly civilised to be somewhere in the sunshine. If only the old currant bun would show its face here in the north of England. Our patio is sorely neglected this year
Well, I did read your post the other day about ATC's and mow am thinking what on earth I can do. No doubt I will come up with something. In the meantime you get your limbs bared a little in the sun.
    Hugs, Neet 2 xx

  4. Ah the joys of wax, i remember in the 80s and early 90s making candles then progressing onto encaustic art (painting with wax). Dont miss the burnt fingers though. I hadnt realised about the ATC anniversary either. Ooooh.

  7. Stamps for seals?? That's genius! Oh heck, I've only been back 5 minutes and I'm already tempted!! I assume you can re-melt them if they don't work? I'm glad I'm back in time for events and with luck I have 18th free. I shall go back through posts to find out more details! Have a wonderful dose of vitamin D my friend. Lisa-Jane #7

  10. Oh enjoy ! And thanks, I'd almost forgotten about the fun of the wax seals. I think all mine are gathered in a little tin..so the search will begin ! I was awakened by a loud noise..The TV came on all by itself...the ice maker was wildly making ice and the cat was starving....the Electricity came back on ! I hope I can return to my dream.....and lead a normal life in a few sunshine/ing hours. To answer your question from previous. YES SON & FAMILY will be returning to WASHINGTION DC...he will be in states in 2 wks looking or settling on a home in Virginia...kids are will finish school in a few weeks and I only Pray all their belongings being shipped back here are able to make it safe and sound. 2 cars and a house of furniture ! Hoping you have great weather and lots of relaxation. You totally deserve it.

  11. Oh gosh, you've snuck off to warmer climes again. I'm struggling enough in this country with heat LOL - still! Funny you should mention wax seals. I got a set for Christmas and made a lot up them to be glued onto projects and have the little container on my desk reminding me I could do with making more. Totally understand the constraints of making them on the day, as I even burnt my finger accidentally when doing mine at home, never mind the open flame...Have a super time away Hugs BJ#11 again - second week in a row!

  14. Hope you're having a lovely break! My ATC's I'm planning to link them all together again, because that's what we do on WOYWW, we all link, or in my case, try to! I have some of them old wax seals that you burn and drip! I have played with them but not used them on any real crafting stuff yet... Have a great time!! Happy WOYWW!? ((Lyn))#16

  16. Have a great break Julia. Thanks for the tip on the wax seals. I was contemplating getting one of the crucibles, I thought I might get into a less drippy mess with one lol and some of the wax stamps can be quite pricey. Cheers Michelle x

do enjoy your time away. Have a glass of Sangria for me, please.
I'll check out the blog post and get cracking on ATCs. I wish I'd thought earlier to make enough for everyone and send them to Sarah to hand out.

  18. Sounds like you are having a lovely time! I could use some of that sunshine and heat here! I used to make those wax seals, eons ago! I think I still have a wax stick and one proper seal somewhere. Never tried it with a stamp, that would be cool! Have a lovely week, Lindart #22
