I was totally inspired last week by Mary Ann using her TH Crazy Bird stamps. Boy, my mind said to me, I have that set and I have a huge amount of patterned scraps, I need to copy that idea. So I did! Whilst chatting online, I stamped, die cut, stamped again, cut out eyes and beaks and assembled. Then the next day, a little phased by the number of birds I suddenly had, I set to making some cards. I’ve used up some ephemera that I would never use on scrapbook pages and some olds card blanks.(bottom of the pile on the left). I’m so over keeping stuff! I’m also a little bit over the ephemera too, but that may just be because I’ve purchased badly. Time will tell. And so will I, obviously! So the coffee cup is in the normal place...I wonder if Blogger will cut it off this week - when I read some of your comments about not being able to see it, I was a bit surprised, after all, it’s not an espresso cup! But yep, cropped unintentionally! The bin is overflowing with inappropriately sized waste papers etc. This means I was pretty much in the zone, but you could tell that already from the mess. And piles. The strange red dollop in front of the Glossy Accents is actually the holder for the Glossy Accents. It stores it perfectly, upside down, ready to deliver. It’s made from a plastic medium that becomes malleable with the addition of hot water. I made a couple, deliberately ugly do they didn’t get pinched when I was doing a workshop or at a crop. These things do happen. But not, it appears, if you have ugly accessories!
Before I ask you to reveal and share it all, can I thank you gentle Desker, for last week’s heartwarming stories about and tributes to Shaz. It made last week a bit easier for a lot of people.
Share now, as you so willingly do. Put WOYWW in your post title and link here as you always do. And as I always ask. And as always, thank you.
Not only a little surprised to find you'd posted early as in really early as in the night before, just like I was doing and I'd only popped by to get your url for my page. So even more surprised to be #1 on the linky list, kinda made my day really, not been in the get up and go really early mood lately and then only to use the front room for my bouncing (mini trampoline) before husband starts work. Anyway, I'm waffling.
ReplyDeleteYour comment about being "so over keeping stuff" really hit home for me, so yes I'm trying to do that too. Also it's brill when a desker inspires you isn't it. And yes last week's stories and tributes were beautiful, a sad day but also wonderful to know how much Shaz was and indeed IS loved. BJ#1
No idea what even made me check tonight! Good thing. My tomorrow is hectic! I am so envious you scored the stamps and dies used. I never find deals like that. I only have the pages I stamped from Helen at the crop. But the little guys are cute and until I unearthed them I had totally forgotten about them, your card is perfect. Now, there is this big-hipped goddess by Dina Wakely I am hunting for. If you see one, let me know lol! You have the knack.
ReplyDeleteHappy Woyww waaaaay early...
Mary Anne
Now here's me tidying up my desk especially for you hee hee.. and trying to keep in with real time by taking an actual shot of what's on my desk right now as I sit eyes propped open with one ear telling me to get that embellishment finished and the other saying go to bed yawnnn!! I'm very impressing by your red dollop mines blue aka blue tack.
ReplyDeleteI don't think i'll ever be over ephemera but i'd like to start using my own but without a printer it's not going to happen anytime soon.. we all need to use up what we have don't we but those new releases keep us coming back for more..
It was really lovely to read all the love for Shaz last week, she'll always be with us for sure. Night night lovely Hugs Tracey (3?) xx
Ditto all above! but at least I can have a lie-in in the morning! Now my glossy accents always dries out, I make sure the lid's on, but it still goes un-geta-outable. Wishing you a great crafty week! See you again in the real morning! ((Lyn)) #6
ReplyDeleteWell, it sounds as though you and I are living in the same "head" space. I am getting rid of stuff and I am going through my ephemera and it is awful. I don't know what I was thinking. But I am learning how to do journal pages so I will just stick it all on there and see what happens. I did buy a couple of magazines dedicated solely to journaling so maybe I will buy better next time.
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW!

And I am collecting ephemera...
ReplyDeleteI was also inspired by Mary Ann to look out my TH bird stamps - but yes that's all I did - look them out...
Susan - and I thought I would be first today - #8
I was already in bed when you posted or I'd have joined in early too ! I am glad I wasn't going totally mad not being able to see the coffee cup last week - it is definitely there now!! Glad you are finding use for your TH crazy birds! Have a good week. Helen #10
ReplyDeleteMorning Julia. Oh my word - you posted so early this week... are you always late to bed? Or was it all a mad splurge last evening? A great fun post - don't we all have the "occasional" (ahem!) bad buy? Think it looks great/ does great things/ will add to our personal look... I know I have drawers and cupboards I never open 'cos it would reveal those moments.
ReplyDeleteAnyways - glad you have had so much fun cutting, sticking, and using up - now you have a wonderful pile of cards. brilliant!
Take care. God bless.

I had to do a double check I had the right week as so many people had already linked up Julia. Hope you don't have insomnia. Great idea for using up ephemera that won't get used on scrapbook layouts. Great card! Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #11
ReplyDeleteYes to being over keeping stuff!! I'm on a stash freeze until I use some of the ridiculous amounts of stuff I have and it feels good. Also just movnig some of it on, or, gasp, putting things in the bin! I think our styles have changed but also the need to buy in case nothing else comes along. I'm much more discerning now. I used to buy grab bags etc too and a lot of that I still have! I may just be tempted by the quirky birds stamps though... they seem to fit me right now! Stay safe and keep smiling, Lisa-Jane
ReplyDeleteI think its all a part of being a crafter, we all think that might come in handy and in te end after a very love time we throw it all out, I know I have done when putting the crafting things away, but you can bet i still have lots that could go,
ReplyDeleteTake care and stay safe . Lilian B #16
Hi Julia, I tend to try and use up any oddments every time I do a new card.

It’s good to see you’ve been busy my friend.. it’s good therapy to use up scraps as well as you do...keep it up.
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Overkeeping! that's definitely me! I'm working on magazines at the moment though it will take some time and still finding it difficult to let them go. I have decided to take out what I want to keep and file the pages which in the end will actually make it easier to find the interesting stuff....I hope! I'm doing that while watching TV namely Emmerdale and Corrie...yes I am a fan but then they cover both parts of the country that I know well. When I'm not watching those it's The Good Life and Are You Being Served. I do like something funny to brighten the day. I've just about finished the new CCA project which will then give me some time to work out what to do with some more leftovers so I do have a plan if it works. Have a fun woyww and hugs, Angela x19x
ReplyDeleteLovely to see your desk so busy, Julia. Very crafty to make your accessories intentionally ugly and so they are un-nickable! I was definitely one of those people helped by last week's tributes and I'm very grateful for the friendship and community spirit that makes WOYWW so unique. Will link up later - I still have a post to write! xx
ReplyDeleteIs being an Anti-keeper a thing, do you think? If so, then I’m one of them....I don’t keep any scraps ‘Just in Case’ and carry the minimum of stash. Obviously I buy quite a lot when I need it but never hang onto best things anymore, they get used. I’m glad you’re having fun getting through your ephemera )great word, bit like spatchcock, fnar fnar!!

Hi Julia, lovely to see your desk full of purpose again. It’s very satisfying to find a use for the things you’ve stashed just in case, I agree. For me, in the world of work, it was useful to have some girly things like pink pens, as they were less likely to grow legs amongst engineers 😏
ReplyDeleteTake care and happy WOYWW

Happy WOYWW. I think the 'Spirit of Shaz' has inspired much creativity this week. I know she would have loved to have seen my spray pen set and the pyrography, so here I am - actually crafting! I forgot to mention in my blog that I have started to trade ATCs again - next week I will show some photos. Ali x #26
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, great to see you in the zone! It makes for happy crafters! I have had those birds waiting for some colour all week, but I did use up some embossed scraps that were really old, thus proving I keep things a long time too. Happy crafting and happy WOYWW x Angela # 31
ReplyDeleteHI Julia, I know what you mean about all that ephemera, and just not wanting to hoard stuff any more, I want my space back and so much of it is stuffed with things I'll never use or even look at. Great idea to use it up on cards, I've also used loads for mini books and little decorated notebooks as well. Have a great week. Annie C #32
ReplyDeleteThose birds are so fun and i’m Glad you got to play with your products. I think we all have products we regret buying and using them as layering elements on cards is a great way to use them up! Dorlene #33
ReplyDeleteI love TH birds, and cats too! I have both, I should use them, maybe now you have inspired me! Have a great week, Lindart #36
ReplyDeleteI had a huge clearout at the beginning of Lockdown One nearly a year ago to a young friend with four children so that she could introduce some novelty into home learning. I also managed to shift 15 KG of fabric on a local facebook page for free. I a, gradually getting my sewing mojo back but mainly for mindful hand stitching which has of course migrated all over the living room! Happy crafting.
ReplyDeleteHi Julia. Thanks for message re BT. I need to sort it..
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to keep tidy! Have been getting rid of stuff though.:-) Anne x 37
I am so surprised how early you shared! Anyway, your Glossy Accents holder sounds interesting. I've been eyeing Tim's Snarky Cats along with his Crazy Birds. Love your busy desk. I went back and read about Shaz. Just breaks my heart. She was an amazing talent and will be missed tremendously.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by so early! Have a wonderful week!

You sound busy as usual, Julia. I really need to have a major blitz and get rid of some stuff, and first and foremost to tidy up! My studio is a disgrace these days, as it always is when it isn't getting used. Thank you for your visit - the doing of the extra round of crochet wasn't too bad of a job really, and I feel well satisfied to have just got on with it and got it out of the way. I'm working on the embroidery on the cat stitch squares and am hoping to get some blocking done really soon. I'd hoped to be at the laying out stage by tomorrow because my hubby's out all day, but that isn't going to happen if the squares are still damp. I'll just have to keep him out of that room on pain of death or something more serious!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea, to share my collection of Shaz memorabilia with Doug. I've got some ideas about this. I am thrilled to see "Hublet" using her blog and joining us, although as soon as I spotted him, I burst into tears!
Happy WOYWW,
Shoshi #15
Well, learned some new words from these posts. Overkeeper (that would be mr) and anti-keeper (don’t know many of those)
ReplyDeleteSorry to be late. Spent the rest of the day at the doctors, to hurry up and wait!
Wanted to ask you....did you take an on-line class to figure out you ScanNcut? If so, what is a good one? Bought a 2nd hand one and now pilfering through YouTube....
Stay well
Happy Thursday
