What’s On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 576

Plus ca change, la meme ca change. I’m blogging on iPad, using the app. The new dashboard on blogger wont let me perform any basic functions, like add a photo, choose a font, blah blah. it seems last week may have been a happy fluke. We’ll see. This is a scheduled post; the gas man is coming to remove unused pipes in the old kitchen. Sometime between 730 and 9am. Yikes. You just know, don’t you, that I’ll make a coffee, sit down to start blogging and he’ll turn up, need my attention and make me a) very late to post or b) forget to post. Given the early start, either would make me a bit cross! I haven’t quite put tape on the floor, but I have worked out a safe distancing strategy and as he’ll be working in the old kitchen, he’ll pretty much be isolated!
Annnnnnyway.....
Good lord, the mess never stops! I’m contemplating a title for a scrapbook page I started on Friday. You know, a bit here and there when there’s a lull in activity. The canister bin at a ridiculous angle because I needed the surface room for other clutter. That lovely pink envelope at centre stage is from Kathy (she’s an Instagram desker). At left hanging in a bunch from a stick on hook is a bunch of string lights with colourful ball shades, a gift from my sissy some years ago which I promised to save for use in the new kitchen. Well, they’re out, but not actually ‘placed’ yet....turns out I could do without 20 metres of them!  At bottom right in the front of the basket there’s a green envelope that I found this week when looking for something else (of course). You might just be able to make out a picture of a slightly raggedy looking me, 26 years ago. I can be precise because I was pregnant and on holiday in Australia, two things you don’t forget, huh! I’ve no idea why it’s in the envelope (or indeed the other pics with it that are unrelated). What occurred to me about it was the hair problem. Here we are a quarter of a century later, and my hair is behaving just as badly, but this time I blame lockdown instead of salty seas and the care less attitude of comparative youth. Ah, me. Gosh, stop me wallowing and show me your desks, please, as usual, I will be happy and grateful and I hope, slightly quicker to visit.

  1. Hope the gas man turns up nice and early.... so I am pleased you've scheduled or I'd miss linking now I'm back in the office office! I hope when you finish the layout you share a close up... I'll not comment on hair as mine is dire... as you know it's as thick as thick can be and the colour has nearly all gone so I can see gray now! Have a good week.

  2. Morning Julia. Hope the gas man arrives ok and does all he has to do - exciting times, as the old will soon be the new!!! That pink envelope is something else... are you licking your lips in anticipation of using it for something exciting... or are you still at the stroking it stage?!
Take care dear girl. Stay safe. God bless.

  3. Hi Julia, Hope the pipe removal went ok.

Now you will have to do a LO for that photo.

Hope you have a nice day. Sue

  4. Ah workmen in the house. We had our back windows replaced a couple of weeks back. I worked out the best way for us to section the house up for the social distancing thing for that, although they wore masks the whole time and we did the same if we needed to look at stuff with them etc! Last week I took my car in for it's MOT service, no such distancing there and they'd been open all along servicing all the ambulances in the area! Oh well. Love the precarious canister bin and the lights will be fab. We have lots of twinkly lights in the house. Oh and don't talk to me about the new blogger thingy, I seem to be avoiding it at the moment....Hope your pipes get removed without any hassle. BJ#7

  5. Hope the gas man arrives sooner rather than later Julia. I am seriously contemplating taking the clippers to my hair (if I can find them) as it's the longest it's been in years and therefore annoying me a great deal. Happy scrapbooking, stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #8

  6. Morning, ah the Gas man cometh! They wrote a song about that and a book, hope your experience is far less memorable, in out, job done without a hitch amend you can get on with your life without a backward glance.
Your desk looks pretty normal, lots of potential!
    Thank for sharing and hosting
    Bless you

  7. I see I'm not the only one struggling with the new blogger - it seems much more labour intensive to do the simplest of tasks - perhaps I just need to get used to it, but at the moment it's it's quite frustrating.
I love your lights - what a great addition they'll be to the new kitchen - you can't have too many twinkles.
    Have a great week,

  8. Oh gosh, that is early, well early to be up and functioning. Hope it is all dealt with swiftly. I need to purchase a new oven - my main oven died a few days in to lockdown - but I can't figure out how we will manage. I'm sure they have it down pat though. Don't you just love a random envelope - treasures from the past, if only we could remember why they are there! I see your ATD gun, I have been thinking of investing but wonder if I might find it too heavy for my weak and wimpy wrist. I use a lot of tape runners, but am getting through them at a rate of knots and there is a lot of plastic waste to consider apart from the price. Any thoughts? Love the lights by the way. Happy Wednesday, Cindy xx

  9. I’m chuckling at your pink double sided tape gun. I remember asking you years ago what it was and then ordering myself not one but two. I used them for ages until they started acting up and now I just go straight to the roll. After my room revamp I’ll drag them out the cupboard and have a go at resurrecting them I think.
Hope all goes well with the gas man today

  11. I’ve not ventured to try the new blogger yet...I keep hearing of folk having problems with it! Why do they change things when they ain’t broken? Guess I will have to soon but unlike you I’ve not mastered using my iPad for blogging so it may be the end of my blogging days if I can’t get it to work. 😢 I really hope the gas man does his job swiftly and safely for you.
    Hugs,
    Annie x

  12. Yes I'm finding the new blogger a bit strange but time will tell!. Good luck with the gas man - it will be weird having workmen in the house and having to social distance etc. Guess you just let him in and leave him to it - you won't even be allowed to make him a cuppa! xx Jo

  13. I have no intentions of wasting any more time with the new blogger stuff and I've been to the forum and told them, this is the only way to make them realise how rubbish it is. I'm pleased to say I'm not the only one that was complaining about it. I have better things to do than spend time with something that doesn't work efficiently. Right that's it, had my moan and goodbye to that thing unless they improve it I'm staying with what I know works. We had the boiler man in the other week and he just got on with it and left, it has to be done. Hope the day goes well and you have time for some woyww crafting too. Sorry about the moaning, Angela x20x

  14. Hi Julia.. yes can soooo relate to your desk.. although its my desk surrounds that are likewise chaotic or busy depending on outlook. Floor chez moi is def latter cos had toppling pile do that.. topple!
Ah know well Kathy's lovely work... well done on lovely envelope AND finding your photo from best place in world - Oz! I might be tad biased.
Will look at it better on iPad later.

I too have totally reverted to old blogger.
I do hope it survives all this turmoil. I don't recall all this grief in 2012 change!
My feedback was they'd reverted to standards of previous decade. Im a mobile device blogger. I blog fine on current site. Impossible on new one. You can't add you tube either. Unless on computer.

    Pray its sorted

Happy WOYWW 😊 .. soooo slow to comment. Days are simply tooo short!
Thanks for sharing, and may God bless and keep you and all whom you love safe and well.
Prayer hugs, Shaz in Oz. X #21

  15. Glad I'm not the only one who finds random photos stuffed together. I wonder if there may have been a plan for them or at least a reason for their being together but it's long gone from my brain if there was. I like the dangly balls - very colourful and I like that you are still scrapping away :-) I'm later than I intended this morning because I have been literally wetting my knickers laughing at my boy who finally allowed his Dad to cut his hair after having to have it tied up in a unicorn type affair so he could see. Let's just say it didn't and well... but he will be able to see clearly for the next 3 months...

  16. Oooh, exciting times in the Dunnit household, you'll have that downstairs loo and utility room before you know it!! Nice to see that you're keeping crafting which your desk bears testament to, lol!!

  17. I hope the man who came to pick up the pipes was out again quickly? - I am not feeling good about having "strangers" in my home at the moment. Hopefully, you are doing good.

I am not sure that Blogger will continue to use the old version as I have been told it will be a standard ( new blogger ) from June 22nd.

Thank you again ever so much for being around. Hugs

AND thank you so much for sharing!

  18. Morning Julia, this new blogger is a little tricky isn't it! I am still finding my way around and have not tried to use my tablet yet. Sounds like theres lots going on in your house - i dream of a new kitchen - ours is so tiny. I found a whole load of photos yesterday when i have sorting out my "office" mostly hubby before we we married - they were for his 60th party just over a year ago. Hope it goes well today - don't like strangers in the house without covid. Have a fab week .Soojay xx

  19. Been on a conference call so am a bit late. Cannot make the picture larger so I cannot see this wild hair or the fact that you are pregnant. Would have been good to see but oh my goodness! There is a messy desk and there is a messy desk and this is a messy desk. Julia, you are in a pickle. If that canister slides it will cause an avalanche, and how many pairs of scissors have you there? Oh hecky pecky.
Good luck with the gas man!
    Hugs, Neet 6 xx

  20. Gas man . . . we're waiting on a drain man!! Our road flooded yesterday in the storm, bit of a shock as there are two drains either side of the road. Another storm expected today . . . .
    Love that pink envelope!
What wonderful memories the photo must've conjured up for you, I don't remember being young lol
Have a good week, hope you find the title for your scrapbook page

  23. Hi Julia, wow, 20 metres of lights! Your own fairy grotto, lol. Still not remembered why I had the coloured card out, but as it's there, I'll probably use some in the C cards! I agree, the secret to finding anything is to look for something completely different. Liking what I can see of the layout, love how uncluttered it is, your's always draw the eye to the photo- which is the whole point- but not everyone pulls it off. Stay safe, have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #16 XxXx

  24. Thank You for visiting and your kind remarks. I will keep you mother in my prayers. And I totally understand what's happening during this pandemic. I was blessed to have my last days with my Mother. I am re energized for now and have lots to do in the next few days. You have been a patient woman during your beautiful re model. Had a good smile over the old photo ! iT'S ALWAYS the hair ! Enjoy a great week.

  25. Good Morning Julia, hopefully all your gas lines have been dealt with and you are off enjoying your day by now. I had to smile over the hair thoughts. I have not much tolerance for fixing my own so, it is just long which means I can roll it up out of the way and forget about it most of the times. Hopefully this transition to the new blogger is going to go smoothly for people. me, I could not find the create a new post button for the life of me and had to start a help me thread at scs to pick people's brains over and I did link to that in case it helps someone else. ~Stacy #31

  27. Julia, I am so happy to hear about your continued kitchen renovations. We need to do ours but there are other items on that dreaded list before it. I did get a new stove yesterday so that's something. As for hair, I talked about mine in my post today as well. I am trying to come to terms with my gray hairs that I can't cover the salon during this pandemic. I know it seems like a small thing but I have never lived with so many for so long. It's definitely an adjustment. Thanks for sharing your desk and scrapbooking. I am preparing a new scrapbook album and getting excited to get started again. Stay well, my friend.

  28. Hi again. Thanks for asking about my mum, she is a lot better but not back to how she was before the illness. It's strange what the virus does as she was coughing up a small amount of blood but that seems to have stopped now. Her memory is gradually coming back and she realised that it's her birthday this month but thought I was three years older than I am......thanks mum! Take care and big hugs, Angela xXx

  29. There are certain advantages to having long hair that is never dyed... it just gets longer and wilder as it gets more grey! Love the business of your desk. I hope all went well this morning with the gas man. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#34)

  30. Hi Julia,
Sorry for the lateness of my comment. I started the day off so well! Hope the gas man turned up early and let you get on with the rest of the day. I did smile at your hair comments. I used to be a scuba diver - I have never looked so bedraggled as when I spent an enjoyable hour diving in the middle of a sea somewhere, then a couple of hours on the dive boat drying, then back in the sea etc! Thanks for stopping by my blog - apparently Mr M played the guitar in his youth. He also rode a motorbike, so I am dreading his 'big' birthday in a couple of years! Have a lovely week, Heather xx #13

  31. Hi Julia.
Another messy desker here, and that canister bin made me chuckle because that's just the sort of stunt I would pull - except I ususally go for the really high stake gambles with half-finished cups of tea!
I too cannot make head or tail of the new "improved" Blogger, and frankly don't have the time to sit and figure it out either! I'm just hoping that "The legacy interface will still be available as an option" means I can remain stuck in my ways and not be forced to move with the times.
Hope the gas man cameth and went in a timely manner and that you've found time to work on that scrapbook page and generally have a good day!

  32. Hi Julia, looks like we are both in the same boat regarding both interruptions and hair! I hope everything went well this morning. I have yet to try the new blogger although I have thought about it (at least twice!) I will probably do most of my visiting tomorrow. Happy WOYWW Angela # 38

  33. I am just finding out about WOYWW - I saw the link on Angela's page and thought I must join in!!
I too am having problems with the new blogger - mainly to do with font sizes. I used to be able to copy and paste so easily before too - not now!

  34. It always amazes me how old photos evoke so much memories.. and how we haven't changed inside at all - but oh the outer side, djeez! Speaking about hair: I haven't been to the hairdresser in over a year but really DO NEED a haircut now, not blaming it on the lockdown but on myself, for waiting so long (but the last time they cut it waaaay too short which scared me off... I found a new hairdresser now but haven't been there yet - having to explain 'my hair' all over again scares me just as much!) I hope the gas-man styed at a safe distance and all is well both technically and with you and your family. Enjoy your weekend Julia! Love, Marit #24

  35. I hope you managed to get everything sorted with the gas man, Julia. I've never been one to be particularly elegantly coiffeured with my hair - it grows very quickly and any cut soon looks a mess, and I prefer it long. I used to colour it religiously every month - even when undergoing the rigours of chemotherapy - but these days I just let it go its sweet way, thinking the absence of chemical interference is probably better for it! I've got quite used to it being grey now!

Thank you for visiting, and I am even later than usual, getting round the posts. I'm glad you are so impressed with my pantry! The reorganisation has proved itself already with my cooking efforts this week being much easier, being able to lay my hands on things so much more quickly than before. Now I am organised with my new way of life as far as eating is concerned, life is much simpler and cooking has become more streamlined.

Thank you for your kind words about my knitting too. My thinking is that if I'm going to take the trouble to do it at all, I might as well do it properly! Knitting is no hardship for me and I enjoy doing it from the comfort of the recliner in front of the TV, and there's no deadline either. I'm now on attempt #3 on the band of the green cardigan, though! So glad you liked the photo of me in my new dress! I just wish we'd had a few more sunny days this week to enjoy it. June is often a disappointment weather-wise.

    Happy very belated WOYWW,
