What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 549

I'm typing this on the PC and not through the App I usually use on my iPad. It means I've had to remember stuff and that's been a bit of a test! Did anyone else experience difficulty with Blog Touch I wonder? Ah well, no matter, it's not as if I can't access the blog one way or another.
So , in glorious (relative) close up:

I'm making Christmas cards. Because I'm in the mood and discover I'm a few short.  I'm doing stuff in the evenings now, as the light is the same quality whatever the time. During the day I cut and colour match at the dining table in real light, and then in the evenings I'm doing the sticking and collating. And still making a mess. The cookie cutter ornaments are taking shape - in the green basket at left. Just noodling over how to add a little more embellishment, then I'll let you see them. The die being weeded on the glass mat is a lovely one by Sizzix, but not often used. To cut it from scrapbook paper it requires 3 different angled placements and six turns through the Big Shot. As much as I like it, it doesn't get a lot of use and certainly I don't make many multiples! I'll show and tell when  the painful part is over!
Show and tell from your place too please, it's a very interesting time of the year for the likes of me. Link your WOYWW entitled blog post here please. Thank you. It'll get you onto the NICE list!

  1. I must admit that I'd like daylight fluorescent bulbs in my shed as I quite often craft in artificial light too Julia. Look forward to seeing your finished projects. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #2

  2. I am getting used to this alternative view of your desk and at least you have a good light it seems! "weeding" dies is what puts me off using some of mine too... I look forward to seeing your finished efforts (thanks for the Christmas card)
Not a lot very interesting at my place today (a few party shots from last week...) Helen #1

  3. Hi Jan, Blimey that die needs a lot of work. Doubt I'd use it much either.

Looking forward to seeing the cookie cut ornaments.

    Happy WOYWW

  4. I did a gulp when you mentioned troubles with BlogTouch as that’s how I write mine now as my old pc won’t let me load photos anymore from my phone. I can report that there’s been no probs for me though Julia. Hope you get it sorted.
I dodged Christmas at the weekend by attending a craft workshop and have reported the results over on my blog.
    Have a good week xxx

  5. Your desk is looking really industrious this week. I’m thrilled to say I finished my cards yesterday and have posted them all now...hence my purse being rather lighter now (postage charges are absolutely ridiculous now aren’t they?). Hope you manage to get yours all done soon too..
    Hugs,

  6. Hi Julia, pleased to see I'm not the only one still making C Cards. I think there are lots of dies that appear at this time of the year, some i'd even forgotten I had Lol! Better go, off to the gym. See you all later. Happy woyww, Angela x13x

  7. Happy WOYWW. My craft room is naturally dark, so I have a daylight lamp for when I really need to see clearly. That die does look complicated, but will be worth it. Ali x #15

  8. Glad to see you can still keep crafting even if you are "in the dark". The WOYWWers have created some fab cards this year! xx Jo

  10. I have some of those intricate dies too - doilies and laces, mainly - that are so painful to cut that I only reserve them for special occasions - it feels like nit picking most of the time (in the literal meaning of the phrase), trying to get those tiny bits out of the die afterwards, and that is if it made the cut in the first place after several passes! It's good that you're in the mood for Christmas cardmaking - it will be all over before we know it! Happy WOYWW, Julia! xx

  11. Hi Julia, I feel your pin with that die. I have a gorgeous die set from Heartfelt Creations called Delicate Aster, and it does make a lovely layered flower, when I can get it to cut. Like yours, takes multiple passes, and rearranging of the die to get it to cut the flowers out.And often then I still have to cut them individually. Such a shame, as that means I rarely use it- too much faffing! Love & Hugs, Shaz #3 XxXx

  12. Your desk looks like mine did yesterday before I did a quick clean up! I had finished my Christmas cards and got them ready to mail and what a mess I had! Now I can play a bit. Have a lovely rest of the week!

  13. Not surprising you don't use that die more than you have to as it sounds very labour intensive. Will be interesting to see it though, so photo please, if you don't mind.
Not sure what you are making/doing with the cookie cutters, will be interesting to find out another week.
Hope you get things all sorted and ready for the big day, as per usual I am wishing I had another few weeks to go.
    Hugs, Neet 16 xx

  14. Ha! if you can't make a mess you can't make anything. I admire your persistence in seeking the light! Thanks as ever for inspiriting our community!

  15. I always feel like I ran a marathon successfully when I get one of those kinds of dies to work and actually make it into something. but, I do find I do not play with mine as much either. The overhead lights up here are daylight LED's now and they are slightly better than the old florescent ones that were here when we bought it. but, I feel your pain on the lighting issues Julia.

  16. I had to think twice about the die being 'weeded', Julia, then cottoned on. It looks a very detailed die so not surprised you don't go into conveyor belt production with it. Interesting about your light issues - up here in the far, though not the very far, north I work with the lights on almost all day at this time of the year. And that's despite having a window right in front of me. Ah well, living here has it's upside so shouldn't complain. Have a great week, tweaking the cookie cutter ornaments. Hugs, Elizabeth x #22

  17. A hive of activity despite all the building work. I hate the weeding part of die cutting especially if I tear the cutout near the end!

  18. Wow! That really is an intricate die. I doubt I would use it much either, although I bet the effect is stunning. Lighting is always a challenge at this time of year - I am at work during daylight hours so am currently crafting in artificial light as well. Happy WOYWW. With love & God Bless, Caro x (#11)

  19. Happy WOYWW ! Is that it’s called when you take out all those little bits - weeding? Always a reason for getting the Dyson out for me, little bits all over the floor. Find dies very frustrating, I wish they all cut perfectly first time! My lap top is in for a minor repair so I am linking up with my Facebook post.

  21. I have a few dies that require "weeding" and they don't get used that much, either. But I also have a couple OTT lights on my desk and 1 good bulb overhead that helps a lot.
    Looking forward to the ornaments!
    Have a great week!

  22. Hi Julia. Yes, Camilla and I have had the lights on all day today as we worked - not a lot of daylight at this time of year! Those dies that take so many passes are so often destined to spend more time in the folder than on the machine, aren't they? Such a pity, as they are usually gorgeous!
Thanks so much for the card.
    Take care. God bless.

  23. Looking busy! I sure hate the dark gray of this time of year. It gets a bit brighter at least when there's lots of snow. But still not much help.

We got a new puppy.....we realize now we were much younger the last time we had a puppy! And the needle sharp puppy teeth. . . .

    Happy Wednesday.

  24. Hi Julia, I saw your question about the new cabin. I am going to keep the old desk where it is but some of the stuff that is usually there will go into the new cabin. I have a lot of stock in the loft and that is all going in the cabin too so that I can get back to doing other projects which are generally messy and not really suitable to do in the house and which I've actually done in the Greenhouse in the past. I haven't said much about it recently because it's still not quite ready for stuff to be moved in as Des has been painting the inside but I have ordered the blinds so guess that means we're moving on a bit. I'm not in a rush just want to get it right....well as near as possible. The next job is a new table to go in there which will have casters and shelving below....well that's the plan so watch this space. Sending hugs, Angela xXx

  27. Thank you for your comment, Julia, and sorry to be so long visiting - I managed to get the Tudor gown finished in time and it was a tight deadline! Then a long day on Saturday culminating in the event itself, and since then I've been too exhausted and needing to rest and recover from it all! Hopefully I'll manage to get a blog post up tomorrow with more news.

    Happy very belated WOYWW,
