It's after midnight, Tuesday. We've been to Miss Dunnit's University to view an exhibition. All the theatre arts are represented; Miss Dunnit's course is Prop Making and Special Effects. It was amazing, the talent was breath-taking. It's not just a 'proud parents evening'; the exhibition forms a part of their course and the success of it is therefore very important. It's open for a week at Northbrook College in Goring if you're interested. After we'd looked very closely at everything, we had a quick tour of the studios. Because they're students, they each have a cubicle type desk to work at, and....
this is Miss Dunnit's space! A painted and graffitied area with a large amount of polystyrene left from a previous project. The room was a shambles and all of us visitors just gazed at it in awe, some because they didn't know what to say about the mess, others because it was all ingredients for creativity and it had to be looked at, and still others because the smell of glue and resin was quite strong!
I might show you more, but I have to gather permissions first. If you're a theatre or film addict though, I would rest assured - the future is in good hands!
Share do, what you've been up to since last Wednesday's goliath 8 year anniversary...which was great fun, thank you!
HMMM! I'm the first to leave a comment and I haven't got a single thing to share this week. I am in awe of the career your daughter has chosen. I'm fairly certain she will always have work, especially if she's as good as her mother. This (and scientists) is a profession that will be employable for years and years to come. Good for her!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous course to take. I wish young miss dunnit a bright and happy future and a big hug for proud mum. Well done to you for guiding her

ReplyDeleteMorning Julia. Well done to Miss Dunnit. I have to be away from my desk next week because I will be off to see my eldest grandie's art axhibition for her GCSE! Exciting times.

ReplyDeleteI so didn't expect your post so early, I could have done mine last night LOL. WOW what an amazing Uni course so creative, I wonder where Miss D gets that from??
ReplyDeleteI did hit on your word "Shambles" for my blog title today, as my desk is certainly that - in my sense of the word. Having to type this in mid air over my planned scrapbook page!!! If only I'd remember my keyboard is cordless! Ah now that's better.
Love my ATC thanks very muchly. BJ#11
Oh that course sounds amazing and love her desk 😊
ReplyDeleteKyla 12
Your trip sounds wonderful. I remember that at one time I would have loved to have gone into this field and I can just imagine the thrill of taking this as a course at Uni, Do hope you get to show us more pictures eventually. And Good Luck to Miss D.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Neet 13 xx
Like Mum like Daughter! they do us proud. If you know Neet and could nudge her, or send me her mailing address, I'm itching to get my ATC to her.
ReplyDeletethanks, Robyn 14
Happy Anniversary Julia - sorry I missed the official WOYWW post last week - but I am here now! :-)
ReplyDeleteHope you are well. My visits seem sporadic at best these days as that's how life has been but I think of you every Wednesday. Hope to visit more this summer but we'll see how things go!
Anyway, I am playing with a new set of art pencils this week - hope you have a chance to stop by! :-)
Sounds like a great time spent with your DD.... sounds like an amazing vocation she has chosen. Have a great week.

You must be so very proud of your fledgling Julia. As a parent we give them the skills for life and send them out in the big world. Your daughter is really flying now. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteSending you big hugs.

What an exciting career prospect - clever girl. I would be hopeless with props etc but I always wished I had done theatre costume. The thought of working with clever designers and wonderful fabrics - yummy! x Jo
ReplyDeleteSo exciting. Brings back memories of when I was at college maybe I've never got over making a mess cos as you know I'm still good at that just don't have the same amount of space anymore. Happy crafty woyww, Angela x21x
ReplyDeleteGreat desk, but then Miss Dunnit has had plenty of examples to follow thanks to her mum. I was totally unartistic at university as I studied languages I did tread the boards in a German play each year, but had very little to do with 'behind the scenes'. Happy WOYWW Sarah #22
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting course, and I wish Miss D all the luck in the world.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,

It sounds absolutely fascinating, Julia. I would have loved to do such a course if I was 18 again and if I lived nearer would definitely go and have a look. I'm going to see if there is anything similar locally to visit!!
ReplyDeleteYou must be very proud of Miss Dunnit. I will be looking out for her on film credits in the future!!!!
Have a good week

It really is a wonder people don't pass out from simple pride in offspring at these shindigs eh? We stepped back and looked at ours and said - see that pair of intelligent gifted well rounded productive human beings? - we made them... Doing up a ruin seems like a doddle by comparison... well done MIss Dunnit, but mostly Well Done you two... Justifiably Proud Parents Dxxx @27
ReplyDeleteaww you must be proud :) Sorry missed last weeks anniversary only seem to be able to do tthis in holidays at the mo. Have a lovely week . Soojay xx

Well Julia you always surprise, when saw the photo, I thought where on earth is Julia. I'll be honest I dint in a million years guess a uni students desk. But I well remover our art room in student days and chaos reigned there too, though perhaps more orderly than things are generally done today. Nothing more fascinating then seeing just what your progeny are up too Julia, something very satisfying about it, and in very worthy way too, well done all!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!

This I have to share with you - this morning Mr G said - have you seen the letter box key we have mail - ( all french poste is delivered at end of drive to a locked box or even locked box in next village depending)... I said - Mais Oui, I have seen it this very morning, but could I for the heck of me remember where... eventually after much searching we found the spare key tucked safely away in the cab of his JCB digger (?) ... I just looked at my post comments glanced at my desk and yes ... there is the KEY!!!! it will of course be placed in it's more normal storage space that is the gubbins bowl before Mr D returns to the barn ...
ReplyDeleteI bet it was a great exhibition, very exciting. My boy's best friend is absolutely loving it there. He never would have known the course existed without you and your girl and the connections made by sharing our desks. I love thinking of that.
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I thought I'd confuse people by posting my blog right after Darlene did. At first it'll look like someone double posted, but take a closer look and there's an "o" in there. LOL. Happy week!!
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, lovely post. It's so nice to hear about your daughter's studies and see here work space. I suspect that, despite being a neatnik, I'd be one of the ones looking at it as incredients for creativity. I hope the exhibition will be a great success for all the students and look forward to seeing more once you have had the necessary permissions. Hugs, Elizabeth x #33
ReplyDeleteI think that is so cool that they put it all on display and I am grinning from ear to ear that you got your dd desk in this week :) ~Stacy #40
ReplyDeleteObviously the acorn didn't fall far from your tree! How lovely to have such a creative daughter to follow in your footsteps! Thanks for sharing, Lindart, #41

Congrats to Miss Dunning.
ReplyDeleteHAPPY WOYWW everyone - I'm back from my extended vacation now and hope to be able to participate regularly from next week again ... am I missing something about the asterisks?

Awesome post! Like you I stood in awe when our daughter graduated from the OU school of art! The work spaces and all that was going on was just awesome. I loved looking at all these young minds plowing thru the mundane into the magical. Hope you have a great week! Vickie #42
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your post. A room smelling of paint and glue sounds like creative heaven.
ReplyDeleteI visited the Graduate Showcase in London last year and was blown away with the Film and Theatre prop work. Well done to all.

How interesting Miss Dunnit's course is! Have you and she been to the Harry Potter studios? I loved the model and prop making workshop there. Last week was wonderful, many thanks, Julia. Have a great week, hugs, Lynne x #30
ReplyDeleteI wanted to let you know I received your ATC today. I was shocked because I wasn't expecting it.
ReplyDeleteI tried recently to answer the e-mail you sent me and learned there is something wrong with my e-mail. I can receive them, but can't send them. I wanted you to know that's why I didn't respond to the message you sent me.
Thank you again for the adorable and very thoughtful ATC.
