My desk doesn't look very different; suffice to say that I'm still working on the first tax return of three. It takes a while anyway, but this year it's taking an age....must remember to tell Mr Dunnit not to make more than a living next year! Of course this fatigue doesn't help, but I'm being quite patient about it; it is what it is!
Oh it's a sad sight.... |
I spend most of my evening chair time on the embroidery or playing memory puzzles....I'm getting paranoid about my memory! The embroidery is slow to grow, but it was never for anything specific and I've learned to avoid making promises when it comes to finishing stuff!
So, blame the tax returns for an uninteresting desk again, and hope that my one job at a time thing sees a return to form for next week - I've got ATCs to make!
Join us anyway..post a pic of your workspace on your blog and link it here, I need the inspiration!
you're doing more in the evenings in your chair than I am, I just slump! hope the tax returns aren't too ... taxing (sorry) and are done soon. The embroidery looks great so far. Look after yourself.
ReplyDeleteWell, that embroidery is looking so good. You should be proud of what you are achieving and just think what it is going to look like in the end. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteTake care and try not to worry about the memory.
Hugs, Neet 2 xx
Oh wow another year to celebrate? I must get my thinking cap on pretty quick cos I just might have a few posh frocks to work on soon :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a good week my friend.
Biggest hugs,
Annie x
Your embroidery project looks great! Do you get to decide what colors to put or are you following a guide? Happy WOYWW!
ReplyDeleteWell I'm mightily impressed with your embroidery. I'm not blessed with a talent for precision. I am cursed with a talent for procrastinating though especially in the filing department. The pile is about a foot high as we speak.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to Wales tomorrow for a few days and an altered book workshop at Indigo Moon in Montgomery so sod the filing for another week.
Lynn xx
Hi Julia, I hope the Tax Returns are soon done and dusted.
ReplyDeleteNice to see your embroidery coming along.
Hope you have a lovely day. Sue
Thanks for giving us fair warning for the swop Julia! It will take me a time to come up with something acceptable! Your embroidery is looking good, as long as you are enjoying doing it. I try not to make dedlines either. I just get stressed! Good luck with those tax returns! Lynda B 15
ReplyDeleteEmbroidery looks great. Better get going with those ATCs. Take care and hope the tax returns don't prove too taxing!
ReplyDeleteHappy woyww, Angela x 16
I really like your embroidery. I`ve never really tried it. Hope your taxes are done soon and you can go back to normal - whatever this may be ;) Happy WOYWW, Evelyn/Evalila
ReplyDeleteLoving the embroidery Julia
ReplyDeleteJill #18
The embroidery is looking beautiful - it's all about the pleasure and fulfillment from the process and not the finished article - as I keep telling myself every time I come across my unfinished needlepoint from 1992!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the tax returns!
Diana x #19
Glad to see the embroidery in progress. Chatted about it last week at our craft group and folk seem really interested so you may well see some on my blog in the next few weeks. I too worry about memory these days but I think it's because we have heads that are so full of ideas boring stuff gets lost. Carry on regardless xxx Jackie 21
ReplyDeleteMm another year indeed Julia I've been here on WOYWW since first week in Jan 2011.. so that's five years for me.. but six for you and all those from way back on day one.
ReplyDeleteI never realised just how much I would value and would learn from WOYWW.
I think the most momentous one was early on when mentioned I was having issues with my bug, and someone on WOYWW solved it for me..!! Sorry you are still struggling with paper work! I think it and computer are draining plus and huge time stealers but sadly necessary..
Praying for you with everything associated with current health issues etc.... and yes, I too need to get to work on some atcs. They dont fill me with dread as they once did! :D
Thanks so much for sharing.
Happy WOYWW! Shaz in Oz.x # 20

Take comfort in the fact that at least you are doing things....... be it Tax Returns or embroidery!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the early warning about the swap.
Take care and have a good week.

Hope you can soon complete the tax returns!! Good that you are able to do your embroidery and puzzles. I need to try and do more knitting/crochet in evening. I always intend to spend just short time on laptop but end up on it for ages - one thing leading to another. No wonder I can't sleep!!! Anne x #24
ReplyDeleteThe dreaded tax returns! What a bore! But your embroidery is coming on. It's something to do. And brain training is fun. I love to do it. Have you tried Luminosity online? There is a free version and it's very entertaining.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week,
Lisca
Oh Julia, good luck with the tax forms... it's a 'crime' to must fill in those, I know... I hope you can get back to a fun, creative desk soon! Did I tell you I love your embroidered doodles? I LOVE it!!! I need to create ATCs too... better start soon as I do like this annual party! Have a great week dear one, hug from Holland. Marit #26
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, you'll be glad to see I have actually done some crafting this week. I had done one page last week but had forgotten about it, not such a bad thing as a friend spotted the spelling mistake (which I blogged earlier in the week). I guess I find crafting in the school/college holidays difficult but now it is back to college/work things are easier. And there's the harp playing and gardening and housework you know the drill - glad I don't have tax returns to do too, but I do have a little job one afternoon a week in a preschool now, knew the teaching qualification would come in handy one day..... Loving your embroidery, hope you find it relaxing. Hugs BJ#27
ReplyDeleteMorning Julia, oh tax returns are such a pain, I loath doing mine and I guess yours, for a business, are far more complex.
ReplyDeleteJust enjoy your embroidery, it is looking good.
Chris #4
Morning!! Sounds like we are both suffering from admin overload. Yep, one thing at a time is often the best way. Big hugs my dear, and Happy Wednesday! Cindy xx
ReplyDeleteYour embroidery is coming along nicely.
ReplyDeleteSending you warm thoughts and hugs.
Have a great day.
Diane - WOYWW #29
Looks like good progress to me. Blah! Tax returns. At least I only have one to do. It can wait awhile though.
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, it's coming along nicely, I think. My memory irritates me a lot too. Lately, it's like I can walk from one side of a room to another, and I've forgotten what I got up for!Or I can't recall a word that I know I know, and have to wrack my brain for ages, sometimes days, before I get it. Look after yourself, and big super squishy hugs to both of you. xxx
ReplyDeleteOfficial paperwork is never fun. However, it is lovely to see the sun coming in on your desk and the embroidery is progressing.
ReplyDeleteToni xx
I so understand your reluctance to make promises about finishing stuff! Nothing saps my creativity more than the feeling of obligation. Hope you get your creative spark back soon, Julia!
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, you are making more progress with your embroidery than I am with mine. Ever since I got ill a year ago 'slow' has become my middle name :( On the subject of the dreaded tax returns, have you thought about trying a bookkeeping programme on your computer. Some are very easy to understand and they make the whole horrible process easier, simpler and quicker. Take care and take it easy. Hugs, Elizabeth x #33
ReplyDeletePS: my memory is a pain nowadays. Working on the premise that if I use it I won't lose it I do crosswords, wordsearches, etc., and, of course, read a lot too :)
Taxes, yuck. I finally got everybody's done and filed. Everybody has to file one over here in US and the deadline is April 15th. I love your embroidery. It certainly keeps hands busy in the evening. It's good for hand, eye coordination too. My hubby was asking about my stitching wondering how I could know where to stick the needle from the back if I couldn't see the hole. Tried to explain I just could, not sure he understood!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week
Sharon K #36
Good luck with your taxes, Julia, a draining task for sure. Hope they are done soon so your desk can contain more enjoyable things! Glad your embroidery is coming along. Sending virtual hugs on this sunny Wednesday morning. ~ Laura
ReplyDeleteYour embroidery is gorgeous - so bold and colourful. I cheated - I handed our tax returns to an accountant! THe worst was making sure I had everything. All the best Julia.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Julia and happy WOYWW. Your embroidery is looking great and not to worry all great things take time. Oh boy taxes..... Hope you get them done soon and are able to relax back at your table crafting. Have a wonderful week Hugs~Anne L #38
ReplyDeleteYour embroidery will be amazing. Hope you're finished with your taxes soon.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Miss Julia. Your embroidery is coming along. Tax season is such an annoyance for a lot of people. I am blessed to have a fabulous tax man. Sending you prayers and blessings on this adventure. Kelly #43
ReplyDeleteEmbroidery is looking good! I hate taz returns, its such a chore, but has to be done I suppose.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should get a move on on some ATC's too. I missed out last year.
Happy WOYWW!
Tertia #44
Whahoo! I am here! Tax season is almost over, here. :) I love to do memory puzzles. I love to do the puzzles every morning in the paper. Word Jumble and 7 little words, and the crossword, although ours is difficult. Happy day, Julia!
ReplyDeleteIt is curious my mind wants to know what your filing date is for taxes if its close to ours ( April 15th) or different. its just one of those rabbit holes, when our daylight savings time kicked in here it was a few weeks later on the other side of the pond.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed that you are doing them yourself, that is a ton of work. :)
~Stacy #48
My desk is dull too today! We are desk twins :) Love the embroidery, it's looking good, I like the colours you have chosen. Cx #53
ReplyDeleteFAB desk and the embroidery's coming along
ReplyDeleteHAPPY WOYWW

I'm glad you are finding some time to relax in between the dreaded tax returns, Julia. Your embroidery has definitely grown since last week but, like you say, it's not about finishing things but enjoying the process.
ReplyDeleteTake care
Hugs Lisx #55
Well tax returns are a real bummer, needless to say. Your embroidery is just so amazing! A great way to forget and relax.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a creative fun week to come - without tax returns :-) ... see you next week again♥
Hugs,
MiSchra ♥ #42
Your embroidery is just a gorgeous thing. And I am with you about not promising those end dates on things. I just feel like stitching doesn't want a deadline...unless, say, you're a costumer for a show with an opening night looming. That's about the only time stitching should have a due date!! Hugs! Sandy Leigh (last but not least)♥
ReplyDeleteAre we nearly at the anniversary again? Wow...
ReplyDeleteI haven't been around for almost five months (!!), so time has got a bit confused for me anyway... But I'm back now and determined to join in regularly, so I hope to join in with some of the celebrations.
Sorry to hear you're not feeling quite up to par - I hope you are getting enough done to feel alright about it and that you are soon feeling better.
Tax returns are a nuisance, yes. I want to try and get mine out of the way this year, instead of doing it next January!
The embroidery is pretty - I like the idea of blocks, with a design in each.
Happy Wednesday!
Lizzie (#60)
Isn't it so annoying when work gets in the way of your crafting. The embroidery is coming along nicely.
ReplyDeleteBernice #22
Hi there julie, I just knew that there was something special i planned for today. Suddenly my little grey cells received a message from an alien planet and so I was transmitted here. I bet Turbo Tax has a UK counterpart. It is very easy....so hubby tells me but then I can screw up any form.
ReplyDeleteThe needle work is going great. It takes a few ah has! to really get comfortable with it.
Hope you are feeling chipper and the health service gets its boots on and you are soon planning a vacation everything back on track and you get back to messing up your desk.
Monica #41
The dreaded taxes, still have to have ours done. Dreading it because this year I owe money!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of your embroidery, reminds me patterns in one of my colouring books.
Have a great week.
Hugs,
Michelle
Happy WOYWW. Getting late now - and definitely need my bed soon! I am loving your embroidery. Went over to have a look at the website and bookmarked it for a future purchase. Ali x #25
ReplyDeleteHope your taxes get done when they need to! Your embroidery is looking cool! Kinda different than what I imagined when I seen the start. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteCarol N #34
That embroidery is coming on a treat..it may be slow, but it'll be worth it in the end. Fab job..love your desk and the view beyond. Elaine no. 51
ReplyDeleteDo what you can
ReplyDeleteBe who you are
Want what you have!
my mantra- love the embroidery andlookin forward to the swap event I've been absent on WOYWW.
Love to you Julia!
I totally get the tax thing. I started working on ours this weekend. Yuck! Hope you can get your three done quickly.
ReplyDeleteApril
slow progress is still progress, I would start and never finish it. Wait, I've did that, I once started a crossstitch project, probably 15 years ago and it is still waiting to be finished. Happy WOYWW Vicky#9
ReplyDeleteSorry Julia - I thought I'd already left you a comment but I can't find it! I hate it when tax stuff takes over from the really important creative stuff on one's desk - I've got all ours to do soon, too, and I keep putting it off... I love your embroidery which is so unusual. It's coming on well! Nice to have something like that to pick up when you're feeling tired - I'm a past master at that, and I also do quite a few puzzles but not memory ones although perhaps I should as mine is pretty shocking... I do sudukus and code words mostly. Really addictive.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit - I've got a Venetian blind in my studio and really like it in there because you can filter the light quite nicely with them, but I hate the kitchen one! Two years of dirt on top of the builders' dust - you can imagine how filthy it was lol!
Hope you are getting on OK.
Happy belated WOYWW,
Shoshi #52
Hi Julia. I feel your tax pain. Still need to do ours (weekend drudgery!) but it is so simple. I did them for 30 years as a job and have done multiple bizs, so that's why I'm feeling your pain. It DOES never end, haha. Now that I'm retired and all interest has vanished, I truly believe that any fifth-grader on the honor roll can do a much better job than the gov't does in writing the instructions! I shall have a headache the entire time (and I well know the basics). Hope you fare better. xoxo
ReplyDeleteJulia, The Pan Pastels are actually very easy to use, I prefer them to inks, and I apply them with cotton wool balls or cotton buds, if I want a smaller area.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to encourage more people to buy them because they are getting hard to get so if there is a greater demand for them maybe more stores will stock them.
Chris #4
I love your embroidery! I believe it's enough just to enjoy the process, a stitch at a time, no deadlines, no pressure : D.
ReplyDeleteOh wow your embroidery is really looking fantastic. Hope your tax returns go a bit quicker and smoother. I'm late visiting this week lol. Happy Woyww :-) Kezzy xxx
