It was lunchtime. Me and that lovely Mr Dunnit had come home for lunch and I was washing in our en-suite bathroom. Glamourous and fabulous are commonly used labels for my home and my decor. So there I was, for the millionth time, wondering why when at the design stage of this bathroom, did we fail to consider the placement of such necessities as towels. I know it's a first world problem. I wash my hands at the basin and then turn around and sort of lunge my hands over the bath whilst simultaneously taking three steps to the towel rail for a drying session. If I want to avoid dripping all over the floor that is. And any day that the floor is actually freshly cleaned is a day n which I lunge particularly fervently. This is not a digression, but an explanation for the lip of the bath being covered in water droplets. And behold...I actually shook a proper, really easy to identify, actual realistic shape......
Would you look at that perfect footprint! It was only about 2 - 3cm (1")ish, so I'm amazed that I spotted it, amazed that I didn't drop the towel over it in surprise and thrilled that It photographed so clearly. And it still makes me smile, I mean what are the chances! So if you witness a woman rushing downstairs, grabbing her camera and muttering some nonsense about taking photos in the bathroom....don't worry. It may well be about washing!
WOYWW Deskers...
There's news of Shoshi for those of you following her story: the surgery has been cancelled because it involves her being looked after in the High Dependency Unit for a while and the Unit is unexpectedly full. I guess you'll join me in wishing her patience and distracting thoughts - having once gathered her nerve and made herself ready, this delay would be messing with my head if it was me! We're all rooting for you Shoshi.
I was laughing at the rushing muttering and grabbing the camera because I do that sort of thing all the time lol. Are you sure the footprint wasn't made by a gnome when you blinked? : D.
ReplyDeleteKeeping Shoshi in my thoughts.
What a fab photo, although a little unnerved that it could have been a gnome as Ohhh Snap said:)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a nice evening. Sue
I did the same.... designed the towel rail too far from the sink! LOL Love the footprint... just ideal for gnome size!
ReplyDeleteKeeping Soshi in my thoughts, hope it goes alright, and feel for her over the delay after getting yourself all sorted for it to happen.
Oh poor Shoshi, all that psyching yourself up and then they delay... blooming hospitals!
ReplyDeleteLove the footprint, that is so cute... your tale sounds somewhat familiar (not least the rushing for the camera at weird moments...)
It's a little fairy footprint! Best of luck to Shoshi. x Jo
ReplyDeleteLittle footprint made me smile. I had just read Shoshi's last entry then popped over here. I can't believe it was cancelled- poor Shoshi - it is awful after you've geared yourself up for it. Happened to me last year for a minor op and it was horrible. Thinking of you Shoshi and hope you don't have to wait much longer. Hang in there. x
ReplyDeleteWhen I bought my current home, there were no towel bars, racks, or even a toilet paper holder. The house had been newly remodeled and I didn't even notice the problem until I had to use the toilet for the first time. It didn't take me long to get two towel bars, two racks, and two hand towel racks next to the sink. All I have to do is either reach to my left for the hand towel, or twirl around to reach a regular sized towel. I made sure everything was in easy reach, because I was tired of saying "how a man must have designed this space."
ReplyDeleteLoved the photo, and sympathize with your dilemma. Got a good laugh, too! Muttering and all.
I couldn't for the life of me figure out your photo at first. I thought it was some form of indentation in a piece of foam. Now I see what it is! That's bad news about Shoshi! She must be so downhearted about this delay. She was so ready and just wanted to get it over and done with. I'll pop over to her blog. Thanks for the update, Julia!
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, if it's any consolation we have a towel rail right beside the washbasin and somehow water still gets splashed all over the floor! However, I'm enjoying the vision of you rushing downstairs to grab the camera to snap your tiny 'footprint' :)
ReplyDeleteKeeping Shoshi in my thoughts.
Hugs, Elizabeth xx
I have pictures in my mind of you naked running downstairs to get your camera.....Oh just the thought lol Thanks for sharing your little fairy footprint and please send my best wishes to Shoshi and lets hope she gets her op really soon.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Annie x
What a perfect little foot print! I can see why you got a smile on your face.
ReplyDeleteI've been so disconnected for weeks now. Bad me......
Hugs,
Kay
PS I didn't know about Shoshi's surgery so I popped over to her blog. Bless her heart.
It's funny what makes a good story. Your mind is as daft as mine.
ReplyDeletePoor Shoshi she doesn't have it easy :-( xx
You are just tooo CUTE! You made me smile and I LOVE your water footprint... so fairy-like (if the fairy is a the giant, hairy variety
ReplyDelete....Grin)
Super photo Julia.

Thank you Julia for adding this update about my postponed operation - so sweet of you, and also for your good wishes in your comment on my blog. And thank you all, everyone who has commented on here, and on my blog, for being so loving and thoughtful and kind - your messages mean more to me than I can say. Yesterday I was a total wreck but feeling a lot better about things today, and actually thinking this isn't a bad thing after all, because it is giving us a few days' respite that we were denied by Mum being so difficult and refusing to go into respite care. I feel totally exhausted physically today, but my emotions are a lot more stable, thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteThank you all again, my lovely friends!! I'll post news on my blog once we get a new date, and meanwhile there's the usual blow-by-blow on my Cancer Diary page.
Hugs to you all,
Shoshi x
PS Julia - I meant to mention - that little footprint is just adorable - so glad you spotted it and photographed it! Such occurrences are one in a million, and serve to make our day, don't they. The towel rail in my bathroom is on the opposite side to the hand basin... No other choice in our case - we had a job designing the space to get everything in that I wanted!
ReplyDeleteShoshi
Aah, a little angel footprint! x
ReplyDeleteHi Julia - keeping everyone informed of developments is proving more of a challenge than I'd thought since this latest huge change. My hubby is going to phone any news through to a friend, who I am giving permission to post on my blog, so after I am admitted, that will be the place to go for news. Could you please inform the WOYWW-ers? Very many thanks, and thanks again for your lovely message on here. People are all being so kind. I can't wait for this nightmare to be over...
ReplyDeleteShoshi
Seriously woman you are a hoot this made me even smile at the silliness of droplet photos. Thanks for the smile I really needed it.
ReplyDeleteHugs Eluza
Oh we are easily amused aren't we - I love that little foot print and I too would have rushed for a camera! Chrisx
ReplyDeleteA cute little print, maybe a secret house guest. thanks for the info on Shoshi wondering about a mailing address, I'd like to send off a card.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw this photo I thought you'd chipped something into the shape of a footprint, and I mean this accidentally. I'm glad to see it is just a water droplet. Very impressive and less destructive!
