Busy doing nothing....

When you've been a bit poorly, and you're told to take it very easy for a while, do you rub your hands together in glee and think about all the blog reading, book reading, crocheting, stitching and general catching up you can do? I did.  And then I woke up in my armchair; the world is a week older and I've done absolutely nothing.
A pre-prepared workshop card - for next week, actually.
I've done some thinking though, and I thought I'd share my thought waves.  They come in short bursts, really.

  • I should take this time to change all of our access passwords. Even though 'heartbleed' is no longer new, I kinda haven't done it yet.  And I still haven't.
  • I really need to get the window cleaner to do the insides as well. Well, he called on Wednesday and I couldn't even be bothered to open up the garage doors so he could clean the back windows, never mind talk about insides!
  • This would be a great time to prepare some workshops. I haven't thought any more about them.
  • I should really get the long list onto my desk were I can sit and work at it. Hmmmm.
  • I should blog a lot. Or at least put some articles 'in the bank' for emergencies. Well, I'm writing this.
  • I should clear out my wardrobe. I know this would really give me a buzz. No buzz yet, perhaps next week?
  • I want to consolidate and clear my craft cupboards too. Actually, I don't think I'll ever get to this.
  • I would quite like a pair of the sandal style diamante laden jellies that all the Spanish girls were wearing.  Just gotta search for 'em.
  • Doing nothing isn't so boring after all. When you really feel that nothing is the best you can do.
  • Getting back to 'normal' is the most attractive idea I've had all week.
And as it's Friday, and today was my deadline for feeling better, I'm pleased to say that I'm extending the deadline to allow for one other thing - feeling better combined with a bit of 'get up and go'.  And I can feel it, it's there - within reach.  Brace yourself!

  1. LOL Julia!! I love your lists - especially annotated ones. I can totally empathise with you, I've had lots of things I should have done this week, and have also done none of them... I blame the football... actually I don't I blame me cos as we know my tv is directly behind my workspace on't'floor... and I've not been poorly so no excuse.. Hey ho, it's the weekend, I'm bound to get it all done......
(hugs) to your continued recovery and get up and go arriving!

  2. Hi Julia. I love the lists - and am so glad none of the things on it have been done yet! Take your time.... you'll get there, when your body says it's Ok to go!! :-)
Take care and continue to recover.
    Love n hugs

  4. I totally understand what you're saying - four weeks off after my surgery and I had such big plans! Project Life was going to be brought up to date, my website was going to be resolved and ready for business, I was going to read plenty, get the craft room straight and a hundred other things. Guess my body over-rules my head, but at least I've healed well! As should you - take your time and enjoy the down time, you'll feel much better for it, and quicker.

  5. Your 'get up & go' may have done a vanishing act but I'm sure it is all for the best. Take things easy and rest whilst you have the chance.

  6. thats a great list and you must just do what your boy tells you, it takes time to get over some things, enjoy your restful time, keep thinking up all the things you will o when you feel 100 percent!!I have to google those sandals, lol

  7. If you do just one thing on this list, please do the heartbleed thing and change your passwords. I put it off and paid the price, eventually (two weeks ago). Someone in China emptied out my bank account---all but 7 bucks.

  8. Hey there dear friend. I'm not feeling a whole lot of enthusiasm in this post. Instead, I'm feeling a few more days of rest are probably needed. So put on that pot of tea, drink a cup of coffee (grin), put your feet up, and wake in time for your class next week. Or for WOYWW, whichever is sooner.

  9. HI Julia,

Don't even bother with the lists, just sit relax let your body mend, nap in the chair if your body tells you to, it needs healing time and rest. Do not clean out your wardrobe, do not clean out your craft cupboards you can sit for a little while on the net but do it from you iPad in the comfortable position of your armchair. Just take your time.

Yoda sends pat paws and gentle hugs and I send lots of healing love and hugs.

  10. I had to smile at your list. I have a To Do List, which if I am honest i could get done in a day, but do I? Heck no:) I'm lucky if I get one thing crossed off. I have this little voice in my head saying, 'there's always tomorrow'. I really must stop listening to it:)

Your body needs to heal hun, so you take it easy at least for a few more days.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

  13. Just let your brain do what your body is doing - rest and get better and don't feel guilty about just chilling.
You will soon have your get up and go. x Jo

  14. You were doing just what you were meant to do! I remember a few years ago wondering what it must feel like to not be sick! You have all these plans, and all you can do is think and dream. But that's OK! You'll be feeling right as rain soon! Lindart (now knowing what feeling well again feels like!)
PS - I love the card!

  15. Sometimes doing nothing is actually taking time to heal. Love your card btw. I'm so glad you are feeling better, and hoping your get up and go is back soon.

  16. Poor Julia, sorry you are still not feeling great. When you're feeling rotten is not the time to do either physical tasks or mental stresses, and don't feel bad about still feeling bad. it takes everyone different lengths of time to recover. OH had his gall bladder out 6 years ago and felt really poorlyn and needed spoiling for at least a week, so when I went to have mine out I wrote off a week in my diary and they sent me home less than 24 hours after surgery and I was so well it felt like cheating letting him even make me drinks.
But you let them spoil you as long as you need spoiling and don't rush it.
    Bless you
    Chris

  17. it is the after effect of anesthetic. Always makes me have the blahs and not want to do anything. Can last a few weeks. At some point you want to do something and start on things, even reading. I always like it when people bring me books as it saves me making a decision on what I want to read. Just pick one up.

Mean while do nothing then you can blast off when muses, elves and others arrive,
    hugs

  18. Take your time, doll, she said, knowingly, your body will let you know. All in good time. All in good time. Because backsliding sucks, trust me! Big hugs, Darnell

  19. Hi Julia, lolled at the lists- they all sound like great things to do- until you get started, then you wonder what the hell you were thinking of! The one thing with to-do lists, is they don't go anywhere, it'll still be waiting when you feel up to it. And you'll be kicking yourself if you put your recovery back by doing too much. Enjoy the lack of pressure to do things by deadlines, and treat yourself gently. Love and big hugs back to you. Shaz xxx

  20. Oh my-I do hope you have met your deadline and are feeling perkier! It is at least a good thing that you can sit and rest and not worry too much about the outside world. Take care my friend!

  23. You sound just like me - except I haven't the excuse of being poorly :P

You still make me larf - thanks for that smile. Now. Maybe I should go do something something... something?

  24. Hi Julia, Sorry to hear you are sick!! Ugh, taking it easy is such a snore! I did enjoy reading your lists, I had a similar one there was one entry I didn't add, I just did it: Lit the list on fire. I was sick in march and still feel like I am in Slow Mo! I did get my closet changed over and cleaned ( should have lit that on fire too!!O)
I hope you feel better very soon, enjoy the stop on the roller coaster if you can!

  25. When you're poorly, you need to rest.Glad your body had more authority!! I rarely write lists now(even in my head). The tyranny of the LIST!!Ugh!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. That's the kind of list I would do--and then that's exactly what I would actually do!! You should just heal, drink good tea, and let your thoughts flow. Hugs! Sandy Leigh

  27. Go with the flow Julia and do nothing. Just sit there and think nice things - and get yourself better.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  28. Glad you have had some time to make a few lists. But nothing better than being your old self and having at it. Hope it's just around the corner for you.

  29. Hi Julia, just read your blog after spending the whole afternoon and part of the evening clearing out my wardrobe. Well I feel better that now I can actually hang up the clothes that I want to wear now but felt a bit fedup that some of the stuff in there didn't fit me anymore so they had to go which was a bit depressing so if you are feeling under the weather still, don't do the wardrobe as you might feel worse Lol!
Just sit back and make the most of having a good reason to let everyone else look after you.

  30. Julia, I like this contemplative side to you. My Ma had and beat Cancer this year..BC (before cancer) she was a rush around, work too hard kind of lady. Now 6mths later and back at work..there is a balance..moving slower, working less, being more in tune with what she WANTS to do and not what she should be. I raise a glass to your honesty and wish you a happy recovery. Cx
