What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 258

The photo is late dusk, Tuesday evening.  This is because Mr Dunnit has just announced a change of plan for tomorrow.  Which won't involve my having to be up for six something, so unlike last week, I shan't be posting live!
There's not a lot to report..the lack of iPad on stand is a good indication of the lack of time I've managed at the old desk so far this week!  But I think I have finished the party invitations and that's a bit of a relief actually.  The lovely 'One Day This Desk Will Be Tidy' mug is looking a bit empty.  Because the pens it should be holding are strewn all over the desk!  Ah, the irony.  The notepad under the invitations is my work 'day book' and is probably the best tool I own in truth.  Every day I write the date at the top of a clean page and it becomes a phone log, notebook, list maker place.  I draw lines between things and can cross 'em out when done whilst retaining a record.  Important when your memory fails as often as mine.  I'm never going to get used to using the computer for such things. I dread to think how I'd get on in a real office!
So..you know the job at hand - upload a photo of your workspace to your blog, put WOYWW in the post title, link here and join the visiting.  I promise and guarantee greater inspiration and more interest at every other desk than this!

  3. I love the pile of invitations - if that is what they are in the front of your desk - they look fab. I could have done a live post this morning as I've been awake for ages, which is not good!! Anyhow, have a good day.

  4. Oh poop. Long comment eaten. Lovely invitations, and I'm a lister too. Can't do it online. We are in good company - I love the (old) book Life Among The Savages, and there is a very amusing section about lists in there. I must find I for you.

Not risking another commrnt loss so happy WOYWW

There is just something satisfying about crossing something off the list!

  19. Your desk looks so busy - mine looks naked - I just haven't been working hard enough this week!Your invites are really lovely and I think I need to get back to using a day book instead of all my odd scraps of paper - at least you have something to look back on too. Have a good week. x Jo

  20. I used to have a big book like that when I was at work but seem to use scraps of paper now, although I do have a desk diary downstairs left open on the week in hand. Love the invites. BJ#39

  21. Your invitations look interesting and your desk always has something that catches the eye.

I have a notebook too as I just can't keep everything straight on the PC and I don't have Apps on my mobile - give me a hardback notebook & pen every time.

  23. It's pencil and paper for me too. It seems alien to write a list online and I don't want to be staring at my laptop screen all day. Too many distractions! The invitations are looking lovely and I spy that beautiful mini book too.

  26. Good morning, Julia. Just wrote a message to you, and blogger lost it - so here goes... I am just so relieved I am not the only person who needs a notepad to tell me what I should be doing at any moment of the day... My house is littered with pieces of torn notepad reminding me of dates, times, shopping lists, appointments....
Love that mug of yours - it is a sentiment I heartily agree with!!!
Take care, and have a great week.

  27. I too prefer to make lists but you are far more organised. I tend to do it on whatever piece of paper I can find which I often cannot find again lol!

I make lists of things to do. I also use the Sticky Notes programme on my PC.

NB...I emailed you last week using your Contact Me! thingy, but not heard back from you. I was asking if people who cannot get to the crop can order the tote bags and if so how much and how do we pay for them. Sue

The invitations look great and I'm all for the lists on paper and not in my phone or computer. There's something very satisfying about ticking them off with a thick pen.

  32. Your invitations look great! Love the the distressing you did on them! Paper and pencil/pen are my list making tools of choice too! I love to cross stuff off lists too. Makes me feel productive. I love to draw on paper and make big boxes on my work desk. If I have people in front of me, or thinks tossed at me that I need to address each goes into their own box. I then cross them out as done. So much easier than me trying to remember. A late friend showed me that trick at the desk, and I always remember here when I see a full grid paper ! Winnie #57

  40. I'm loving the pile of cards / tags in the middle there - lovely colours. I'm a notepad girl too for all the reasons you say and I just like the feel of the pen on the paper, it helps me think and its easy to cross out and draw lines between and link up and doodle and all that!

  41. Andrew is a great list writer but then he forgets to take it with him when he goes shopping, or leaves it in the car!! I rarely write lists, any time I do I never bother to look at them! I don't think your desk is without interest, the fact that the invitations are finished means something got done and you had some time at the desk recently. I like the not getting up at 6 bit, I do that 5 days a week and love my Saturday lie in!

  42. As always Julia a busy desk, glad to read you're finished the invites. I love the idea of a day book and might just adopt this idea as my memory often fails, especially as I walk out of one room to go do a task and it's forgotten by the time I reach the next...oh dear. Cheers and have a pretty cool week RobynO#73

  43. Morning, Julia - I'm way behind today because Wed has suddenly become my busiest day, rather than my quietest. Thanks for visiting for WOYWW. Your desk looks as busy as ever! 46. I love the idea of your notebook!! I have one at the office but none at home. I should have one at home to keep track of stuff I need to do, phone calls etc. Of course my notebook at the office is always a mess! So who ma I kidding!!!! patsy

  47. The invitations look great! And yes, I still need to write things downs in my book, or desk pad....we have to also use the work Outlook calendar; but I don't like it!

  48. What a GREAT idea to use a simple notebook to keep track of EVERYTHING each day. My memory has failed me as well. I use the computer a lot but I can't get the hang of using it for everything....just seems easier to write it down but then I have tons of notes every where on bits of paper. I feel so dumb for not thinking of a 1 notebook to rule them all!! LOL!

Thanks for hostessing this fun segment! #63

  51. Hi Julia, your pile of invitations look lovely and I like that mug. You'd be a natural in a 'real' office ... your system is exactly the same as the one I used throughout my many years of working in an office. Once these day books were full they were labelled with start and end dates and archived ... odd to think that all these years later they could still be lying, dusty and forgotten, in an a dark and dinby basement somewhere :) Hope you've had a good day after your unexpected long lie this morning :) Hugs, Elizabeth xx #78

  52. I'm with you on the traditional notebook, Julia. I use a composition book. That is why I thought the Documented Life Planner would work for me - a daily organizer that is pretty with a designated place for art. You'll see mine coming together in this week's post if I get in there and get a pic taken. hehe

  53. Love the stack of pretty invites on your desk. I know how you feel about a list. I am a Project Manager (by day) and a list is vital to my job!! I have a new page every day, dated and I colour code items to fit the day...and strike through them when done. Cx #80

  56. Hi Julia,

That's great that you are done with the invitations. I bet it's a huge relief.

I keep a journal of what I do (at work) and if I forget to write something down, from, say a few days ago, I have trouble remembering. It's terrible. I'm old school in that I like writing in a official "Notebook." I keep appointments on my computer calendar though.

Your desk looks fine - you crack me up about the mug and pens.

    Happy WOYWW
    Hugs, Kay

PS -- Is the crop scheduled around the same time each year?

  57. I tell you what Julia--we are kindred spirits. I too have a day job notebook that is my constant companion, and I DO work in a real office each day. At my desk is a huge desktop computer with two screens. And yet there is something about pen and paper that to me is more handy, more reliable, and more enjoyable rather than everything having to be digital! And yes you were right about Chummy! Last episode began her storyline about her poor mum--can't wait to see what all unfolds. Hugs! Sandy Leigh

  58. Hi Julia! What a great idea using your note book! I just leave piles of notes on my desk!! I will have to make a note book, not sure why I never thoguth of that!! I am a huge list maker and it keeps everything on track!! I'll have to put that on my list today!!
I love your invitations and as always looks at you desk makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside - really, like my desk it means a happy productive creative life..
