See It - Pin It - Do It

SIPIDI - See It Pin It Do It - is genius.  It's Fiona's idea, and it's a great way to encourage one to prove the usefulness of all the Pinterest time that is, from where I sit, quite wasteful.  I held back from Pinterest for quite a long time, and I have to say that I'm a useless member; I don't use the forums or do any connecting, I just look at the pictures. And occasionally, I pin.  I started pinning because I developed a thing for crochet.  Having accepted that my evenings were being wasted by my age-onset rubbish eyesight preventing me from playing at my desk, my age-onset evening tiredness meaning I couldn't be bothered to do anything but sit in a comfy chair, and my life long idleness, I decided that I should try something that I could do whilst in the big comfy armchair.  Because lets face it, singing round the piano, card games and mind numbing TV weren't going to keep me amused for long.  I feel the need to be productive.
So I pinned some outrageously gorgeous and very advanced crochet projects. I've taught myself, thanks to the internet, and made a bundle of scarves and cowls.  And then I wanted a project.  So I made a blanket from granny squares.  And then Miss Dunnit expressed an interest and so I searched, found and have been making another, for her.  I had all the squares in three marvellous piles.  I asked her which order she'd like them to be joined - red, grey, mix, red, grey, mix, or one row after another, or blocks of four...how?  And so of course, she surprised me utterly by devising a proper pattern.  Of course, it;s not finished, I think a handful more of evenings will do it.  But I'm already looking for something else on Pinterest, so I thought this could just about qualify as my March SIPIDI.

Vertical joining still to be done, and a border.
Of course, she chose the mixed yarn colour way for the border, and I will do that.  But she's wrong.  I think it should be the grey.  But hey. It's not my blanket.  Just my teeth that are gong to itch as I stitch!

  1. Pinterest! Its an angel and demon all at the same time. I resisted it for ages, and I don't do the forum thing either- just pin what I like, want, need and what amuses me. I tell myself all those cards I Pin are for inspiration, all the recipes for later try-out. How many lifetimes do I think I have, lol?

  2. Do you know you're the second person to call me a genius (sort of) in the space of a week. I could get used to that! It's looking fantastic and I will pin it to the SIPIDI! board forthwith. Thanks so much for joining in Julia x

  3. Love your project Julia, I made one years ago and think I may do some squares now. I only browse to see what is on pinterest as I find it too easy to get distracted and wander. xx Flora

  4. Kudos!! LOVE the blanket! I only pin pictures, but I've pinned 30,000 of them lol. I'm a visual thinker so I can usually remember what I'm looking for after the ideas have marinated a bit. To be fair though, the BIG BANG and SHINee pictures are just for fun and the good music : D.

  5. I've never looked at Pinterest, because, frankly I'd become addicted and I spend all my spare (!!) hours on twitter...
I do however love Miss D's forthcoming blanket... I agree about the border BTW. but hey, it's her choice.. enjoy finishing it.

  6. What a fab blanket. I've made them before, although I find sewing the squares together a real pain.

    I rarely go onto Pinterest.

  7. I love the blanket though I am with you on the grey. I sometimes crochet in the evenings. I have been able to make granny squares since I was four or five. Mum could crochet before she could knit, and she taught us. But I am only just branching out into more complex stitches. At the moment I am making large squares, each one a different colour and a different pattern. I get all the ideas from the internet, but I mostly only pin sihouette cutting and papercraft. Kate x

  8. You're a clever bunny Julia and I am with you always have a dark border otherwise it will look crap.

Love the SIPIDI term but I dont pinterest and probably never will, I can't justify the time wastage, I would much rather spend time reading your deskers blogs.

  10. Miss D is her mother's daughter, with a mind of her own, that's for sure. She seems to have the entire thing planned out in her mind, so she'll own both the design and the lovely blanket when it's finished.

I tried to join Pinterest once, but I wasn't allowed to, since I had to be a member of Facebook, which I was not. Funny how all those social media sites are all tied together. One good thing about not being able to join Pinterest is, it frees me from spending all my time there.

  15. Your granny squares are beautifully 'square' and the blanket is looking fab. My school dinner-lady taught me to crochet when I was at primary school.

I don't Pin, FB or tweet as I find it difficult enough keeping up with the blogs that I follow.
