What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday WOYWW215

Join in do..you'll meet some lovely Deskers and you'll be amazed at the amount of craft work going on around the world.  Here and here tell you how and why.
This photo was taken at dusk on Tuesday - about 8.30pm.  I found myself with an hour to kill between commitments on Tuesday afternoon and had to wrench the idea of sitting outside from my mind...I needed to stay fragrant and relatively cool!  So, guess what - I flung open the patio door, pulled the first photo out of the pile 18.6 kerjillion waiting to be scrapped, located a sketch and went for it.  And that's what you can see on the desk.
Of course it isn't finished - one hour, remember!  You can see that the carnations are surviving wonderfully, and that I was using buttons.  I couldn't be bothered to 'string' the bunting so I glued a teeny button on to emulate pegs.  After all, it's not breaking my button bank exactly!  The deckchair is minus ipad because it's cluttered with birthday cards. Waiting for me, obviously.  I like to mull them over and try to commit ideas and trends to memory before I get rid of them..so many of our card making themes and trends turn up on commercial cards, and I get a great sense of 'Ha!, we were doing that LAST year', when I recognise something like that!  You can also see my To Do list pad.  It only has four lines on it.  Yeah, but each line is a really really big job!  Happy Wednesday y'all, show me what you're up to with that laughably small spare time you have then.  Join here:

  2. A fragrant Julia! Gotta bottle that one! I'm happy that you can open the doors and enjoy the nice weather, I like how it still cools down at night though, no such luck here. I rarely see commercial cards any more, really couldn't tell you if what we all do is on trend, ahead or behind trend!

  3. Great looking LO, I agree with the button instead of the string for the buntings.

  4. I think you did wonderfully for one hour... a scrap page can take me an hour to figure out what papers to use!! :) Glad you are enjoying being able to ling open the doors and have a cool breeze waft in from outside!

  7. I believe you Julia! I couldn't live without my To Do List...and sometimes I have huge jobs on there, so I'm glad you're not overdoing it. And I love your idea of pulling out the photo and spending an hour to make some magic. Love that...I'm going to do it more often instead of constantly making a big production out of everything. I love this view of your desk too. Happy WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #6

  12. I can't believe you got that far in an hour. It would have taken me that long to figure out which photo to use, even if it was randomly pulled from the pile (grin).

Those carnations are truly holding up well. Impressive, since it's so hot here, they would have MELTED by now. OK, not melted like your candled did last year, but still . . . .

I wonder if the card making companies stalk your blog for ideas for their next "hot" item. Happy WOYWW from #2.

  14. Oh, my, what a thrill it is to be drafting up the old post and check in with you just for the hell of it and WHAT?! You posted AN HOUR AGO! At this rate, one of these days I'll be number one even if I am on the other side of the moon!!

I'm impressed by you leaping to create a wonderful button bunting LO instead of lazing in the sun. Especially considering you Brits are always saying you only get three days of summer! You should be very proud of what you accomplished!!

Thanks, as ever, Julia, for this fun snooping weekly scavenger hunt we all love!! Darnell #20(!)

  15. That was impressive for just one hour. Not sure if I could achieve that much in the time, and still remain "fragrant" and definitely would fail at the cool bit. I agree with the others that the commercial folk must be Stallings for their ideas. Have a great week. xx Maggie #18

  16. Howdy, Howdy, I want to let you know, I am so totally hooked on WOYWW. I find myself desk hopping until 3 or 4 in the morning. Even so, it's still tough visiting everyone. I love your giant jar of buttons. I would love that just as a decoration. I hope you have a great week. (((HUGS)))

  17. Hi Julia

I finally made it here this week come hell or high water I was going to join in.

Love the scrapbook page and yes I am with you on the cards, your style or design does turn up sometimes a few years later.

I have a question with your layout front and center when do you cut off the paper description strip to fit in the album?

    Happy WOYWW Eliza

  18. The bunting on that LO=SO cute! And that's one of the great thing about carnations, they do last a good long time.

You know, if you think about it, we should all remain fragrant and relatively cool . . .

    :)

  19. Hullo there Julia . well I find crafting rather like life .. your one hour was very productive really and then another time it is not cant quite work out why one day all the ideas fall into place and one can quickly make up two or three cards in time which I spent on one yesterday.. which is still not finished!!
Your button jar looks curiously similiar to mine :D

and so smiled at your deckchair holding your cards so you can mull over them I like to do that too and leave them lying around on display. It frustrates me no end when have to post them too soon :D

ah well must rush away as yes on my post list too! thanks for being wodnerful hostess of WOYWW, for as you will see this week what special group the WOYWW folk are, love Shaz in Oz.x #30 I tink.

  20. I'm so impressed that you did all that in just an hour. Love the buttons on the bunting. Great that summer has finally arrived for you, boy what I wouldn't give for a 30 deg day right now, sick of jumpers and cardi's.
Have a great week in the sunshine.

I wish to congratulate you on not going outside...when it's nice it's just so hard not too. Pretty disciplined to pull one from the stack and make such a good looking layout. I love the flagging...I've got a real thing for that lately. It looks great!! Thanks as always, for giving us all a place to land.

  32. Morning Julia. Can't believe we are all up SO early - must be something to do with the sunshine..
Your "to do" list pad is so small - mine is an A4 sheet of 2 columns of very small writing - seem to do lots each day, but the list just doesn't get any smaller.
Great LO - have fun finishing it.

  46. Hi Julia - thought I should check in and offer my note from my Mum. I just don't seem to have time to come and play right now - it's spending time commenting and hopping about that's the hard bit. But I still peek of course to see what you're up to :)

Love the way the layout is going - great idea to use the buttons too.

I did grin about you being inside/outside to stay cool yesterday. I was in and out most of the day - really late evening was lovely in the garden :)

I also read in the newspaper something I've done for years to keep cool - suspect my Mum showed me when we lived in sunny climes. Run your wrists under cold water for a few minutes and it really does help to cool you down for up to an hour.

    See you soon! :)

  56. Hi Julia, a whole hour to craft, for you that must be something of a luxury. I like the colour combination you have there on your scrap layout - lavender and yellow - very nice. Your carnations are lasting very well indeed. I rarely check out what the card shops are selling but must just to see what's being done this year that we did last year :) Thanks for your comment earlier ... I so wish I was up-to-date with photo printing and scrapping but, like you, I have several kerjillion pics stored, albeit tidily, waiting for me to get a wriggle on :)) Hope you have a lovely, if hot, day. 64. Goodness a to do llist with only 4 lines! That's hardly anything to cross off LOL.

Not playing today as I er well forgot it was Wednesday again and I have about an hour before this room becomes intolerably hot and I am forced into the garden. So a lazy day today catching up with house stuff (done) garden stuff (done) and finishing a couple of arty projects - to do. It was 33 degrees at work yesterday and I did a 10 hour day (altho thankfully not very busy) so I feel I deserve some down time!! Have a good one, Cindy x
