What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 184

Well, first of all, thanks for visiting.  I'm not here today, so my visits will be tardier and less than usual.  Does that make sense? Ah well...at least if you understood that then it explains why we're friends.
And the fact that you can look at this and still come up with something that doesn't amount to hate mail every week.....
So what am I doing?  I'm using H2Os to colour in my favourite stamp image of the season.  As in - it says 'Happy Christmas' and whislt I have none, no, not one objection to being wished a 'Merry' Christmas, I think 'happy' in this context is decidedly English.  British.  I don't know, you tell me what you think.  And why, you ask, after I've bragged about making writing and finishing cards, am I stamping and colouring some more?  You may well ask.  *Cue story*..I was driving home from a delivery and musing over the size of my address book.  I can't remember why.  But I damn near crashed when I realised that as usual, in my haste smugness, there were some hand deliveries that I hadn't factored in.  Like our neighbours.  How foolish.  But also, how nice..am actually enjoying a bit of painting.  Although it's not doing much to the germinating seed of panic that's inside me!

Come on then you movers and shakers, prove that you've moved on from Christmas already, show us your desks and what you're working on...put WOYWW in your post title and link your post here.  No every-other-word-is-a-link-to-a-product type advertising please, it's difficult to read and frankly, the overkill means that ultimately, it isn't read.
So with that in mind..desk on!

  2. I think its inevitable that we forget things at this time of year...there is so much to remember as it is.

I would say its our age.....but we are far too young for that sort of thing!

  10. Happy WOYWW. Hope your day away from us goes ok - missing you already! Xmas - I may have finished making cards (buying charity ones for the remaining 11 people on my list), but there is still the wrapping of pressies/packing boxes to send off with a courier (a lot of my family live in distant parts) and ensuring that all the correct food is in the house on the 25th. I need another holiday!! Ali x

  11. Ah, I was feeling rather smug as I have done and sent (and hand delivered) my cards, wrapped the pressies (on my post today) but now I am wondering if I too have forgotten anyone....... must away to check now........ Hope your day goes to plan Julia. Hugs, Anne x #21

  14. I don't want to move on from Christmas, I love Christmas, just not the mad panic and the horrible shoppers seeking out that perfect present and people being nasty when it is all about being cheerful. Anyway digressing. More cards for you to create, just as well you worked it out now and not be embarrassed when the wrong time came and went LOL.

  19. Well yes I've moved on from Christmas, we don't really make a big deal of it here as it's just me and him although we do enjoy the eating of fine food and the drinking of slurpy booze on the day and the days leading up to the day lol.

I agree that 'happy' christmas is the way to go too.

  24. Hi Julia,

Mm, not really quite here myself - not exactly true but wanted to pop over and let you know the great news - a WOYWW-er won my candy and can be seen on my desk earlier in month - for post see here:

    http://calligraphycards-shazinoz.blogspot.com.au/2012/12/candy-results-woyww-ers-look-see.html

Had to smile at you forgetting folks for cards as I have done the same thing - but I was blessed as found a wee pile which had been inadvertently put to one side which met the need!!
Was so very grateful for that as not able to to do any crafting as my post say immobile to certain extent never dull over here :D

Love and God bless you dear kind caring Julia. I am sending you Christmas greetings if don't come back here before the day when we remember our Saviour's birth, Shaz in oz.xxx

PS apologise too as doing minimal blogging this is the first post have commented on in over a week I think..

  26. I'm still in denial....it's not Christmas for another four months.... want to get in the the spirit...but find the bottle neck a bit too tight!
I'd say... Merry Christmas and then...Happy New Year, when writing, but most likely Happy Christmas when saying.
I'm sure I had a little shoe like that one, have those tidy elves been sharing crafty stuff again? Like WOYWW! this week.

  28. It happens every year doesn't it. You make, sit, write and post all cards and feel very satisfied with yourself and then that dawning realisation that you've forgotten about 10 people and then the panic sets in!!!! At least you are getting to use those lovely little pots of lovliness to make those last few. Enjoy your painting.

  29. Don't do cards so can't forget anyone that way. I contact all those I want to wish a "MERRY Christmas" personally by one or other of our wonderful mens of technology. I go with " Merry" as I think it really is essentially an old English. We MAKE MERRY at Christmas and I think it sounds right to me for the season. I do hope you have wonderful one whether it's Merry or Happy, Joyful or Peaceful or whatever!

Loving the H2Os myself at the moment - I got them 2nd hand from the UKS marketplace and I have found so may uses for them. I wish I had more colours! They look so pretty and sparkly - just what you want for this holiday season. as a matter of fact your post gave me an idea to explore. I get the best inspiration from WOYWW!

Never mind, at least the charity will make more money - positive out of a negative. Happy WOYWW! Karen 66 x

  44. I agree, I much prefer Happy Christmas- maybe the Merry came from when everyone celebrated Yule with a gallon or two of mead, lol. And I really cannot bear 'Happy Holidays'- at least 'Seasons Greetings',whilst probably inoffensive to pretty much everyone, is a traditional Victorian greeting.Still typing left-handed, :) hugs, Shaz

Anyway - I can't move on from Christmas when I've hardly moved on TO it lol.

I'm starting to panic! It's bubbling...

Hmmm yes I'm always sure I've forgotten someone on the card front. I think I've only got my nieces left to make for, I hope anyway. your desk looks as always inviting. Your pots of H2Os are enough to want me to get in my car and come and play, but you're not there, and I'm not up to it today, so we'll take a rain check till another time! Take care lovely. Zo xx 86

  65. In an attempt to remember I add names to the list at the end of Christmas and buy cards for just about everyone and make for only arty friends or people i know appreciate it. Merry or happy is a laugh in the USA after all the money, wrapping and fuss made over gift giving because they spend boxing Day (UK day only) returning gifts!!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Happy Christmas..yes, decidely British (Very rare here in the states-where Happy Holiday's is becoming the "norm" so as to not offend-which annoys me: my holiday is Christmas, and I'm not offended if someone wishes me a Happy Hannakuah! Garr! Do you have to deal with such malarky over holidays over there??sorry, venting)

While I do love the look of the H2O's, I haven't bought into them yet...though making a paint out of the Perfect Pearls is pretty darn cool, and will probably lead me to the others pretty soon! Have a great week.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'm glad you're having some fun with a favorite stamp and pretty H2Os. I like the phrase "Happy Christmas" too -- very British indeed. There are so many things to keep track of this time of year. It's hard not to let the feeling of being overwhelmed take over. I actually groaned aloud when there was a note from school about sending in something for the kids' party next week (I'm sending in paper plates -- ha!) plus a small "girl" gift. I only shop on the weekend, so I add to my list. But in a fortnight it will be over for another year and we'll feel both relieved and little bereft. Better to see it as a toboggan ride -- hang on, let your scarf stream behind you, and have fun!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I thought that I had finished my Christmas cards but then remembered a few people I needed to write one to and I guarantee I will forget someone, I do every year!

  69. WOW what a busy place !!! This is my first time participating - will take me a whole day to check out everyones blog LOL

  70. Actually, now that I've finally gotten my Christmas cards in the mail I feel like making some. I think I will do just that when I get crafting time again. I have it on good authority that the Christmas thing will come around again next year! I remembered a few last minute cards too but I had a few cards lying around. I need to remember to add these people to my address book so they don't get forgotten again.

I like the Happy Christmas sentiment. I can't say if I feel it is British or not. I like it because it is different. Happy WOYWW!

    ReplyDelete
  71. God bless Mrs. Dunnit! You completely reminded me that I need to stitch a card for my dear next-door neighbors--they are the sweetest, and the other day, the husband was at an auction and bought me something! Who does that? They are precious, so off I go to get their card stitched up! From my American point of view--I love to hear "Happy Christmas"...I like it better than "Merry." But, no one here says Happy Christmas. Too bad! I think I have some British in my soul! Now, be careful driving, and make a to do list, so these things don't just hit you like that! Hugs dearest! And I'll welcome your visit any day any time you are able--we are all crazy busy! Happy Christmas and WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #94

  87. Woah! 86 posts before mine - I have a lot of reading to catch up on!
    I hope it's okay that
    a) there is no photo of my actual desk today (actually, you would probably all run away screaming in horror, if there was!)
    b) my post is about stuff I have been making for my online shops... It's not supposed to be advertising, I'm just proud of the results. Hope that is alright?

Off to add the WOYWW link to my post, then read some of this huge Linky List!

  88. Just re-read your post, Julia... (concentration is pretty close to nil just now..)
Loved the story about nearly crashing the car!
And I don't think I'll finish any home made cards this year... they are half done and likely to be next year's cards instead!
Love the idea of colouring a stamped Happy Christmas (yes, very British!), with twinkly paints. I may just try it!

  89. The only way I can make sure I include everyone in the card list is to have everyone in my address book with a tick for those that need cards. Then I print out labels for all the envelopes. That way, if there is a label left on the sheet, I know I have missed someone out. It does not stop the panic though. Hope you enjoy all your painting and I am sure the neighbours will love them. Have a good week. xx Maggie #33
