What's The Word, Bird?

Well, I haven't quite finished visiting WOYWWers, but I'm beginning to think the most common word is ARGH! and it's about Blogger!  I changed to the new 'Interface' some months ago.  Because I was scared that if they forced me to take it and I didn't know what I was doing, I'd be all over the place.  So far, not so bad. I've become used to the fact that you have to click on words that are no longer designed to look like buttons to navigate.  I've become used to the teeny icon of a cog for letting me in to make changes.  I even got used to the fact that certain things were clearly going to change and not be 'get round-able'...I mean, word verification for example, could only be turned off by switching back to the old 'Dashboard' first.  This may have been an oversight and not carried forward to the new style, I don't know.
I gather from comments and visits this week that the new 'Interface' has been forced on to people now, and of course, in the switch over, loads of stuff has been omitted or not moved or however it works.  So thanks all, for the advice about how to schedule a post, that part of it I can do.  It would seem that blogger isn't yet able to recognise time zones and changes, so I'll have to be patient.
What I really want to know now is this - if Google have deemed the 'Dashboard' to now be an 'Interface'...are the car manufacturers going to go all 21st Centruy on us and follow suit? Do we need a campaign to save the humble Dashboard?

  1. Argh. Don't get me started on the new "interface"! My main bugbear is the seemingly random visibility of the my reading list! Sometimes I go into the "interface" and my reading list is visible... other times, it just never opens up properly and nothing I click on makes it! Sometimes going to another page - viewing comments or something - and coming back, or refreshing the page will make the reading list appear but other times it won't!

    Grrrrrrr!!!

  2. Argh. If I type something in paragraphs I don't want it as one continuous mass of text. I like my 'dashboard' as it is...I don't want an 'interface'.

If it ain't broke don't try and fix it.

Blogger seems to have been bombarded with loads of comments from folk who don't like the new format but I wonder if they'll listen.

I have become very attached to my dashboard. I know it well (well maybe as an auld bird can)
so when Blogger just changes my blog to the new format ~ I change it back!
Not sure whose going to win this battle but I'm just making my quiet protest ;D

  5. Maybe it is because I have only been blogging for a couple of months I am on the new version (?) - I don't have anything to commpare it to. I do struggle but I put that down to techno-phobia. A lot of people have had problems though, as you say but if I do get into trouble I know a nice lady (you) who may be able to help........LOL, Anne x

  6. Fabulous card Julia - so my colours! I keep rebelling and reverting back to the old dashboard - my post editor isnt in the right position on the new blogger and I cant see the toolbar buttons so have to hazard a guess as to what I am doing - so I am going to rebel until the bitter end! Thanks for commenting on my blog you are right I am my own worse critic but isnt it funny how one week you can love certain colours and styles and the next they just dont float your boat! or is that just me ???

  14. I haven't had any of these troubles you speak of. Yet. Frantically knocks on wood. So far I love the new interface. I love how you can resize pictures while in draft to whatever size (in reason) you want. I only ever read blogs from my sidebar anyway - when they change colour and move to the top of my sidebar... it's a new post. Simples. So don't know what all this blog reading trouble is.

    Me likey.

  16. I am lost now, my bookmark still says blogger dashboard, as far as I am aware I have word verification switched off and have had for a long time and nothing has changed recently. I can't see the word 'Interface' on my dashboard. I use 'Blogger in Draft' though so I wonder if I have a different dashboard anyway?

  17. I also use Blogger in Draft, so I had the changes for ages. Well, ages in computer terms, anyway!

Julia, I lvoe your card. It's a beautiful birdie.

  20. I love your card! Sorry you're still having scheduling issues - noticed mine this morning has BST as it's time zone, and I didn't do anything to tell it..... strange! I also (touch wood) haven't had any problems with the new interface (though agree it is a stupid name) and get on ok with it... good luck!! Laughed at Gabrielle's mis-type hair on ears... lol indeed.

  21. Super card, love that image, I'm coping with the new version at least I think I am. I'm hoping I have the hang of scheduling now, will find out tomorrow I suppose as I'm going to do a post for them. Take care and see you Weds. Zo xx

  22. I also switched to the new Blogger before I had to, and for the same reasons. I needed to know what I was doing before it was forced on me. ;/

That said, I did make ample use of the Feedback button to report things like "how the heck to you change comment moderation once old blogger is gone?!?!" and "what about remembering the blog titles like you used to?" so we can start typing and just change the week #. Geez.

I also sent feedback to Google in general about their new dashboard/interface. If I only ever click on More to find Blogger and Reader, wouldn't you think Google is smart enough to MODIFY MY MENU so these most0often used option are listed in place of the ones I NEVER CLICK ON so I don't have to keep opening the More menu?

Oh, sorry, this is YOUR blog. My bad. I have that bird die and I love it. What set are the words from?

  23. I am getting so worried, nothing seems to have changed on my blog and I don't remember doing anything. But maybe I did change to whatever this new interface is.... oh for a memory that works. I do remember not being able to comment for nearly year. shudder, nearly threw the towel in then. Argh is a word I use quite a lot, but about technology in general. On my course I put down technology as one of my stressors, right there in my stress bucket with traffic, work and teenagers. Nice bird, I'm liking the Kraft and turquoise.

  24. I can't see why they had to change it. It changed for me one evening and I went doodally trying to work out where the post I was in the middle of typing, went. I just didn't 'get' any of it. It looked to me something that you'd find on the very first computers, like, going backwards. After 'hours' , I found the button to turn it back, which I have...I dread the day when I have no choice.

  25. hi julia...well I seem to be in the minority here and am likely to be shot down in flames...I like the new interface..have had it for months and believe me folks when I say it grows on you...off to take cover...love your cute card by the way...hugs kath xxx

  29. Great card Julia - and I totally empathise about the new 'interface' :( As often happens with software changes, it's probably been rolled out to users before being fully tested - I think it's 'cos it's cheaper to have us screaming and reporting issues than to carry out huge trials. And of course, we're a bit of a captive audience :( Sob, sob - and I thought your other post I just read had cheered me up! Di xx

  30. love the card Julia - anything with a bird on is OK with me.

I changed to the new blogger interface a while ago voluntarily - I think its much better - as opposed to the new facebook change which is totally pants!!

    It takes alsorts..,.
