A card, for stamping's sake

As you know from yesterday's WOYWW, I spent much time at my desk on Tuesday afternoon making a mess. After I'd finished with the Union flag stuff and bits that had to be done, I was still in the mood to play. (And not to tidy up!).  The thing about 'play' for me is that it has to be productive.  I am hopeless at sitting at my desk for three valuable hours and coming away knowing a bit more about a product but nothing in the way of any sort of completed project.  It's a skill, this sort of impatient patience! So I cast around the web a bit, looking for something to spark my  interest and sort of match what I had on the desk....lazy, huh!
I found a challenge at Woodware that suited my criteria and excited me enough to make me stand up, take the necessary one pace to my stamp shelves and pull out just what I needed.  Funny when things come together in your head so fast, huh!  Anyway, the challenge is to make a card using Turquoise and Brown.  So I did.  It features stamps by Stampendous and Magenta (and an Ippity gingham background) and a bit of MR bling and a wooden button.  So I think it qualifies for the challenge.  Either way, win win for me.  Broke in a new stamp, played a bit and produced something viable!

We have two WOYWWers who live in the path of those terrifying tornadoes that we've seen on TV news this week - Elizabeth and Vickie.  I know both are safe, but there's scarey beating hearts and clearing up to be dealt with.....sending you love girlfriends, and coping and calm and safety vibes.

  1. Ooh I like that!! Love those two colours together.

And no... I DIDN'T get tidied up yesterday.... Not going to today either... I have an idea for my Altered Book that I want to try out. It looks good in my head so not sure how it will turn out on paper!!!

  2. I just need to PLAY. Have spent so long feeling blech I seem to have fallen out of the habit of just doing a little something every day. Going to start after lunch when littlest monster is at nursery.

Love this card, especially that pearly thing on the wooden button. Nice combo :)

  6. I think this card is lovely. those 2 colours go so well together. Wish I could tie a neat bow like that, even got a bow maker but mine never look that good. Not aware of the tornados but am now. I hate those things, nature is so frightening.

  9. I like turquoise and brown together, they work really well. And you can't fool me...you've used the ubiquitous stamp again..you can't fool us just cos it's upside down :)

  10. Hi Julia, great card, like that colour combination a lot and the stamp is fab. My take on playing with stash is that, on the one hand it familiarises you with said crafting item, but on the other hand it wastes time and you end up with a pile of bits with no purpose. My aim now is to use up all my experiments with inking, embossing, etc., and stop playing!

On a more serious note, I wasn't aware that Elizabeth and Vickie were so close to the tornadoes - glad to know they are safe but realise that for others affected
it must be devastating. I wish them all well.

  12. I too like to have a purpose... am trying to get some ink or paint through my stencils for you but it wouldn't go right yesterday so nothing to show just yet, lol! I love your card, the bird is great! Magenta - proper wood-mounted stamps, ahhh perfect! (but we've had that conversation before...)
Glad Elizabeth and Vickie are safe.

  14. It's a lovely card Julia and well worth how ever many hours you spent on it. Not unknown for me to spend three hours making a card and has been known for me to bin it at the end when it hasn't gone right - so frustrating. Love the colour combination, a favourite of mine.

  18. Hello!

Your card is lovely - blue (though not so much turquoise) and brown is one of my favorite color combinations. I love the added bling but am not sure what 'ippity' means? :<) I love when you visit my blog and wish you COULD come to visit me! My 'square' of work area would be a bit crowded with two people working inside it but so much fun to see you! Wishing you a happy day!

    Hugs,

  19. if this card is the product of your as you say mess its all worth it, beautiful! I love the crown,
This card has a vintgae look to it I think, you asked about the salt lamp, we have a few of them , a big one on the china cabinet, oneon the table and one in the bedroom, they are on all the time, I know they keep the dust down for sure, not sur if they help with my asthma or not but the glow in the rooms is a very comforting pleasant atmosphereic effect, its just comforting and very calming.I'm not sorry we made the purchase of so many, as you know we live in a mouse hole, lol, and for me to choose to share my limited space with these they must be worth it!

  20. Hi Julia

Gorgeous creation hun. THank you for your comment on my WOYWW post. It was a compromise as I was supposed to be using my youngest daughters bedroom when she moved in with her sister (ages 7 and 5), but there was no room for all their furniture. They now have a dressing room and I have the dining room !!! It required a lot of clearing as it was the general dumping ground. I do hope I can manage to remember to take a photo each week now.

  21. Your card is lovely, I am glad that we at Woodware managed to inspire you. I have just read your bit about the PPA a real testament to its quality! Thanks for playing.

  22. This is really nice! Great stamps, great colours, just a great project. Was AWOL from WOYWW this week as been away and nothing of interest to report but popped by anyway to see what you are up to. Honestly Julia sometimes when I read your posts it's like hearing the voices in my head (well some of them I can't attribute to you but that's another story). I'm not good at just playing either and more often than not I am just too lazy to get things out even though I really want to use them and it only requires a minimum effort (well usually just standing up, this is not a big room!!). So once sometging is out I tend to use it a lot. Have a great weekend. Cindy

  23. Thanks so much for your concern about the tornadoes that hit so close to home. I appreciate the love and safety vibes, too.

That is one gorgeous bird on that card. I have always thought brown and turquoise went well together. I know it's been a pretty popular combination here in the States for several years, particularly in fashion and the DIY industries.

Thanks again for your concern and I could have used you and all those teens the last couple of days (grin).

Love that card and a little something is being posted to you today. With our post it might take a while! Hope it reachs you in one piece.

Sending safe thoughts to Elizabeth and Vicki.

  29. I could have written this post! I am exactly the same, someone once said to me "don't you ever just play" I think it must be the achiever part of me LOL!
    Great card by the way.

  32. Isn't it funny how we can look at stuff all day and when we see THE inspiration we need, it gets us off our butts? I love when that happens, and this card is GREAT! :)

PS: Who cleans up between cards? Sick people, I tell you, SICK PEOPLE.

  33. ah. Blue and brown goes really well - has to be the right shades mind.

I have to say that I don't watch the news an aweful lot at all because its usually doom and gloom... I dont even know what our weather is doing unless I step outside, so I didn't know about the tornado in the States. Thank goodness they are both safe...
