Again, though, I confess this is a tightly cropped photo. My scraps boxes live at left, actually on my desk. There's two of them, one for plain, one for patterned. But you can't really tell. Anne was joking when she suggested I might have to cut some of my scraps down to fit....but really, horrifyingly, she's right!
See. It needs sorting, but I'm busy presently. Ask me again next week - I might have bothered by then. Or I might be engulfed by scrap stock, who knows! So show us your smug or your shame, either way, it's of huge interest to us all. Post a pic of your work surface and whatever you're working on to your blog. Link here and we'll slowly but surely pay you a visit. Easy.
Oh and someone asked about the time I post this - it's usually about 6am. Today it's 6am but it's scheduled. Mr D is not having to rise so early this Wednesday, so I'm going to attempt a lie in. See you at a decent hour!
Ah Julia, organizing your scraps is just a waste of time. Give yourself permission to live in chaos - so much more creative!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou were doing so well, I was suitably impressed at the standard of tidyness.... and ignoring the drug paraphanalia... and then I guffawed loudly and made one of the cats jump when I saw the scrap box!!
ReplyDeleteThats a very tidy work space this week, and very organised. Love the card in the window. Scrap boxes are supposed to be that ...scrappy!!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Cathy xx
This week, mine's more "shame" than "smug" - and I don't work as quick as voodoo vixen *lol*
ReplyDeleteIt's not mess, it's creativity!
Always a good one to remember... and I love your collection of scissors - are they all different cutting edges?
I have to say though, surely it's a tightly cropped photo that shows only the important bits? The bits that matter - who cares about the rest... you can always shut your eyes *lol*
Happy WOYWW!
I spit my water when I saw your box! Only the queen would keep the same sized teeny box while stuffing scraps into it. You win! PS - loved all the posts while I waited for the clock to change, especially re: the consumption of vinegar and daytime TV.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, that desk has more stamps on it than I own! But I think I have far more paper scraps than you. Of course, I have a lot of book pages that are in my scrap pile, too. I love looking at those stamps, though!
ReplyDeleteThat's a fine balance of order and scrap chaos. I have exactly the same set up. Desk sorted and the "you never know" collection of trimmings doth overflow big time. I've managed to split design papers from plain card and that's as far as it goes... fancy colour coordinated painkillers there. Have a great week and enjoy the acetic acid...
ReplyDeleteI much prefer the second picture Julia....it lets us all know we fit in and are normal - too busy (it can wait)to tidy. Places to visit...comments to post! Isn't it nice to just enjoy the craft without all the fuss? I think so! I hope you're feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteLovely tiday craft desk this week.Oh but im so pleased my scrap box doesnt seem to bad now ive seen yours..lol
ReplyDeleteME thinks sure could do with a wee tidy maybe..lol
Have fab wedensday
hugs judex6
Oh dear. I tamed my scrap box recently and have dipped in to it more often now I sort of know what's in there. And I see you treat your glasses ith the same casual neglect I do mine - especially w hen crafting!
ReplyDeleteMA
Ok girlie sort the box out! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I shout in the face of dangerous paper scraps!! I have a box for glitter/ mirri board, one for white card/paper and one for patterned...no, you can't tell the difference... Have a fun week
ReplyDelete(Lyn)
Oh yes, I know that feeling: my whole room is a big scrap box ;) But your desk looks very well organized!
ReplyDeleteI love that! A lovely clean space well if you are looking in one direction! I am living in whirl of crafty doings getting ready for Ally Pally, husband and son not very impressed, never mind eh?
ReplyDeleteHelen x
Oooh you almost had me fooled there Julia until I saw your scrap pile. Now I don't feel too embarassed about showing my heap. At least your workspace looks lovely and well organised. What a lovely view you have out your window!
ReplyDeleteOMG that scrap box is taking on a life of its own ... I have to admit that I don't keep anything smaller than about 3" bits now as I had an every increasing box myself.
ReplyDeleteKay
Mr D rises at 6 am and every morning of our lives together he has bought me a cup of tea to awaken me, I arise at 7am suitably re hydrated and human shaped, it is rare he sleeps beyond 6 30 even at weekends, when he does I am grateful of both the tea and the lie in....
ReplyDeleteregarding the desk - the clean space makes working easy I agree, but it is annoying when everything is not just right there in front of one and within finger walking distance and spottable at the quick glance of an eye,
the scrap box, I believe, is the Craft Version of the artists colour wheel and is a necessary prerequisite to creativity...go girl... make those scraps LARGE
Dx
You forgot to mention that the mug is full of gin!! And at 6 o clock too..... :) xx
ReplyDeleteI had to move my scraps into a bigger box this week but now it doesn't fit where the old one went (it's still there though...) but my scraps are weeny teeny compared to you. Perhaps they are useless then.... must chuck some away Your desk looks great today. Very tidy - even if it's a cropped shot. Have a great day - with a lie-in. I can only dream....
ReplyDeleteAlso, I see you're using those little drawers I passed on to you, but can't see what's in 'em!! Glad there are storage possibilities there :D x
ReplyDeleteOooooo looking really organised on your desk this week, your scraps, well what can I say its impressive, wouldn't mind having a rummage through lol. Kezzy x
ReplyDeleteJulia! You were doing soo well with a lovely tidy but working desk (shame about the headache - think it is the season!). Then you go and spoil it by showing us your scrap box! My scraps are currently in bags as I sorted them into colourways (roughly like - reds, pinks etc)! I am determined to use them up in projects such as are on my desk today!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stash of scrap you have - wish my desk area was big enough to have mine on it. BTW I love your button jar.
ReplyDeletehi Julia, So glad to know I am not the only one with scraps oozing form the box!also hope you enjoyed a lovely lie in - could do with one myself tomorrow morning maybe! must move along few more jobs outside in afternoon sun...happy WOYWW! Shaz in oz.x
ReplyDeleteI gave up on saving scraps when my scrap box grew bigger than my paper stash, now anything less than 4 inch square goes in the recycle bin, apart from any of my 'strokables' of course.
ReplyDeleteWhat's with the scissors Julia, thought I was bad with four pair but I can spot more than that in your box?
Just think how many gift tags you can make with your scraps.... or patchwork cards !!!! I don't save mine... due to the fact of moving back to the Uk..but I will do once settled again...
ReplyDeleteI was looking through the list and saw a claire h..and thought, I havn't linked yet!!! how come my name is there....lol... it's someone else called claire H....
have a good week
Claire h xx lol
a syringe is filled with silicone glue, how interesting. sounds good! is it the glue really for crafting? love the scrap box!
ReplyDeleteAnn B, i wish i was your neighbor so that i could retrieve all the paper scraps from your recycle bin!
Hi Julia....I'm gonna be AWOL today but not making any excuses as I'm having a few days with my gorgeous new twinnies and M at the hospital :-) Will catch up with all when I can.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
A x
Scraps; and I thought mine were bad! Have a lovely day anyway, and just ignore them, it's just plain rude of them to butt into your life like that.... threaten them with recycling, that'll shut them up for a while.....
ReplyDeleteI love how the the scraps truely runneth over! If there is one part of my scrap room that will ever be mutated and eat me alive, it is that scrap stash! I swear that it cannot be destroyed! LOL! Thanks for sharing and hosting as always! Finally got the laptop back today! Yeah! -Amanda
ReplyDeleteI love your spotty mug. I need one. Your cropped desk looks very tidy and organised. Your mass of papers though, ummm I would love to sort that - proper therapy. Spotted the glasses again straight away.
ReplyDeleteThose scraps have such endless possibilities you can't just throw them out. They will be needed next week if you do. We could do some cutting and pasting for you. Hugs Monkey & Norm.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so feeling the same shame, but at the same time I don't see how you can be creative if you are tidy (that's what I tell myself when I'm trapped in piles of scraps anyhow), keep it up I say :)
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Julia,
ReplyDeleteThanks once again for hosting this fab blog hop, I so enjoy my Wednesdays hopping around, I hope you have a lovely day.
Rumtruffle x
PS! Meant to say I LOVE your button jar!
ReplyDeleteHoping you had a good lie in... unlike some of us who wake up early!! lol I feel smug today as my floor is clean..i never mentioned the desk..LOL
ReplyDeleteYours looks very ready to do damage to!
Have a good day
xx
Ha, ha the problem with the scraps seem to be getting really BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG!!!! It is really good that you have such a big desk - you still have room for crafting...
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Cardarian
Another very neat desk again Julia. Mind well, ain't so! LOL.
ReplyDeleteToo busy crafting to tidy.
Hugs Erika.
I used to have a huge scrap box but I have to confess ...I dumped most of it that was less than 6x4 and the larger bits got put in a RUB ...trouble is they are still there ...and I am growing another pile. As a card maker you must use lots of your scraps up ...I always find I haven't got the right scrap so reach for a new sheet and create more scraps lol.
ReplyDeleteDoes one always co-ordinate one's coffee mug and pills with ones project!! Lol, it's all very efficient and tidy.
ReplyDelete** Kate **
Lol! Lovely tidy desk. Erm... lovely erm... srap box!!! ROFL at your preferred method of self-administration of restricted substances. My preferred method of self-abuse tends to be via the respiratory system. Just recently I've been spraying fixative, sprinkling alcohol ink, cleaning up horrendous mess caused by the latter with alcohol - a heady mixture, I can tell you! The trouble is, most of it smells really nice!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Spacedoutshoshi
Hi Julia
ReplyDeleteLove your desk today! Hope you are having a good week.

Tranquil and then....argghhhhh....!!!!! My snippets are under control at the moment, as I tend to use lots of them whilst making cards. You have an amazing array of colours there! Thanks for the lovely cards you sent me, they are ready to go to the cancer charity/hospice on the next visit! Beautiful cards and they'll be snapped up as soon as they arrive!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're not the only one with overflowing scraps boxes (two of em) in dire need of reorganisation. But let's face it.. who has the time?
ReplyDeleteAli
Lets just say Its Busy ! LOL
ReplyDeleteI wish I had as much room as you in which to work. I could not even get into my room to take a photo this week. Must do better. I have a solution to the scrap box overflowing - I have a much bigger box (it is getting close to critical now) - that works for a while and avoids chopping bits to fit the box.
ReplyDeleteSorting scraps, sure beats doing the housework!
ReplyDeleteMy DH is on leave this week, so I had a sleep in this morning too :)
Fun looking desk! I finally had to give in a sort through my scraps cause they were taking over the place! I love the description of your smug or your shame. Trying to figure mine out! Have a great week! Vickie
ReplyDeleteOh dear - do we watch out for a news item saying that crafter engulfed by scraps? What the heck, I bet you know your way round them anyhow - don't you?? :)) Happy WOYWW!! Di xx
ReplyDeleteYay! Scrap boxes that look like mine. I picked up a book about hoarding and it scared me into cleaning out some of my craft stuff. The scrap boxes were next. They're overflowing like yours, but in my defense, I do go to them often.... I just add to them MORE often. Lol. Maybe I'll just pare them down rather than chuck them out. Sorry Hoarders Anonymous, I have to make that concession. Okay, I'll throw out the last 3 years of craft magazines... everything's online anyway. Lol.
ReplyDeleteCindy at #71
Oh my...I'm embarrassed to admit that your scrap pile would make me nervous. I have to purge periodically to stay sane.
ReplyDeleteThe lo is looking lovely. I really like how you have done the tags.
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to come round an tackle the scraps the pile is giving me hives!
x x
Whilst I don't have as many scraps as you I do need to do something about mine which are currently shoved into an overflowing pizza box under the counter. Needless to say one pic I wont be sharing is under the counter
ReplyDeletelove that your cut your scraps to fit! And the 'hidden' messiness makes all us messy crafters feel good!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Debs
What do you think? tell me after visiting :)
ReplyDeleteHiya, this is the first time Ive joined in, Im sure my craft space is no where near as glam as some but hope you like ...I too have a stash os scraps close to hand always very handy xxx
ReplyDeleteThe perfect mix of scraps and workspace...clever for sure! Thanks for the link up! I always have a collection of tiny pencils, bits and pieces of oil pastel and eraser bits on my desk! :) POP ART MINIS
ReplyDeleteHA! You totally have pills AND a syringe on your desk! Love it! Your actual workspace looks quite good! As for the scrap piles - I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND!!! Mine is a disaster. I need to do something about it!!!!
ReplyDeleteLate commenting - been busy setting myself up with more knitting for tiny baby girl!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to be playing along this week! Great work with the selective photography, but thanks for spilling the beans with that scrap box LOL!!! Jo x
ReplyDeleteI think as long as the scrap is constantly be shuffled and in movement, the mess is acceptable. ;-) It's all part of the process! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLoved looking at your desk .... your scraps box looks rather similar to mine!! x
ReplyDeleteI chose to show my scrap boxes too - but mine don't compare to yours - wow!
ReplyDeleteJulia!!!!! I'm amazed at the un-clutterness of your desk! well I was until I saw your scraps box!!!!! you really must get on and make some "scraps cards to use up some of those massive scraps!!! and ummmm I think that spotty cup should be on my desk don't you??? ;) hope you are well? Px
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your large mug! I was daft this morning and forgot to put my link in here even though I blogged about 9am (getting old I think...) Looking forward to having a butchers at other spaces :-)
ReplyDeletehello!

ReplyDeleteKAT Griffin
Hello!
ReplyDeleteOh how I envy you the window and fresh air! You have a wonderful work space! I see there are 104 postings already - so many great creations to check out this week!
Wishing you a happy week ahead!
Hugs,
Barbara Diane
(I did post photos awhile ago of my paper scrap system which works really well for me if you want to check it out.) :<)
Hi Julia!
ReplyDeleteIt's been along time since my last visit.. Glad to see that not much has changed. My scrapbox is out of my shot too. It amazes me how organized the box stayed...for about a minute. It now too is way out of control...lol
xoxo Marjo #36
Wow, you are looking very orgainised and serene, Julia, even your scrap box is looking good. I can't understand why, however organised I try to be I always feel disorgainsed and cluttered!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW
Hugs Lisax
I spied the syringe first. heheh You look very organised there. Love the spotty cup.
ReplyDeleteCarol C
If the scrapbox was organised you would have to know what you were looking for before you started. Sometimes you just come across something by accident - or at least that is my excuse!
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to see what others are doing.
ReplyDeleteIf that's your only mess, Congratulations!! somedays it's even my floor. Thanks for the info on the cup and syringe. With this back out of place I could use anything. Hate to be out of sort physically. Puts a HUGE damper on my lifestyle. Always love your window. Enjoy the day and WOYWW.
ReplyDeleteI have a messy desk too today. A lie-in. I remember those, I'm pretty sure I had one once, but that may just be wishful thinking, lol. Hope you enjoyed yours Julia. Happy WOYWW.
ReplyDeleteit all looks very organised this week! almost staged..... until you show the scrap box... that's more like it, love it
ReplyDeletejanet
all looks very orderly! the trick with the scrap box is to hide that one and start a new one! Just try to remember where you hide the full one!
ReplyDeletehappy WOYWW, Debxx
It all looked so amazingly tidy...then the scrap box LOL
ReplyDeleteObviously an aide to creativity.
Toni xx
ooh, I now feel SO much better about my scrap box!!
ReplyDeleteKyla
OMG I had completely forgotten it was Wednesday, and I had meant to join in this week. You'll know why if you visit my blog
ReplyDeleteOMG, whats that scrapbox? LOL?
ReplyDeleteI read about what´s on your workdesk wednesdays a long ago at Spyder´s corner, but now deceided to participate with you. I am from Brazil and post mostly in Portuguease, but I hope you enjoy the pics!
Love your desk as always Julia, do so want to come and play !
ReplyDeleteAnne x
Well that desk looks amazing until we come to the "Exit stage left" bit! I was almost impressed.
ReplyDeleteI have several boxes like that in the garage getting dusty.... want some more?
Love joZarty x
I got such a kick out of your post this week...tickled me silly! Such a neat and organized desk and then I scrolled down to see your scraps LOL...hate to admit it looks like mine!
ReplyDeleteOooh look at your desk!! we can ignore the scrap box ;o) love the look of that page you're creating, great layout. x
ReplyDeleteYour desk is quite tidy this week. I didn't have gut to show mine this week.
ReplyDeleteI've ignored the snippet mountain and the drugs, etc., and zoomed in on the card in the window - very nice. It's a pleasure, as always, to read your post. elizabeth x #125
ReplyDeleteTHis is very tidy! I love the card in the window, and I don't think I would have even noticed the syringe! As for the scrap; one word: Inchies! Great way to "tidy" up all those pieces! LOL!
ReplyDeleteSo there I was going "Ohhh, look at Julia, she is a reformed character and has tidied it all away and now I feel ever so guilty cos my desk is a pit" And then.. I see the other picture and I feel so much better rofl
ReplyDeleteCut down the scraps to smaller size?! As soon as you do that, you will find that you need a bigger scrap :) A hive of activity as always Julia. By the way I am hosting a digital scrapbooking software giveaway on my blog, ends 2nd October if you or any followers are interested.
