What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 120

My desk is a lesson in getting on with it and looking very tranquil  Oh yes it is.  You can see clearly, there are no obvious piles of stash on stash and even the working area is relatively uncluttered.  Helps, I must say. Now  just to be a bit defensive - the two pills are paracetamol, to be quaffed with the coffee in the spotty mug.  The syringe is filled with silicone glue.  For sticking stuff in dimension.  No other reason, your honour.

Again, though, I confess this is a tightly cropped photo.  My scraps boxes live at left, actually on my desk.  There's two of them, one for plain, one for patterned.  But you can't really tell.  Anne was joking when she suggested I might have to cut some of my scraps down to fit....but really, horrifyingly, she's right!
See.  It needs sorting, but I'm busy presently.  Ask me again next week - I might have bothered by then.  Or I might be engulfed by scrap stock, who knows!
So show us your smug or your shame, either way, it's of huge interest to us all.  Post a pic of your work surface and whatever you're working on to your blog.  Link here and we'll slowly but surely pay you a visit.  Easy.
Oh and someone asked about the time I post this - it's usually about 6am.  Today it's 6am but it's scheduled.  Mr D is not having to rise so early this Wednesday, so I'm going to attempt a lie in.  See you at a decent hour!

  1. Ah Julia, organizing your scraps is just a waste of time. Give yourself permission to live in chaos - so much more creative!!! :-)

  2. You were doing so well, I was suitably impressed at the standard of tidyness.... and ignoring the drug paraphanalia... and then I guffawed loudly and made one of the cats jump when I saw the scrap box!!

  3. Thats a very tidy work space this week, and very organised. Love the card in the window. Scrap boxes are supposed to be that ...scrappy!!!!

  4. This week, mine's more "shame" than "smug" - and I don't work as quick as voodoo vixen *lol*
    It's not mess, it's creativity!
Always a good one to remember... and I love your collection of scissors - are they all different cutting edges?
I have to say though, surely it's a tightly cropped photo that shows only the important bits? The bits that matter - who cares about the rest... you can always shut your eyes *lol*
    Happy WOYWW!

  5. I spit my water when I saw your box! Only the queen would keep the same sized teeny box while stuffing scraps into it. You win! PS - loved all the posts while I waited for the clock to change, especially re: the consumption of vinegar and daytime TV.

  6. Goodness, that desk has more stamps on it than I own! But I think I have far more paper scraps than you. Of course, I have a lot of book pages that are in my scrap pile, too. I love looking at those stamps, though!

  7. That's a fine balance of order and scrap chaos. I have exactly the same set up. Desk sorted and the "you never know" collection of trimmings doth overflow big time. I've managed to split design papers from plain card and that's as far as it goes... fancy colour coordinated painkillers there. Have a great week and enjoy the acetic acid...

  8. I much prefer the second picture Julia....it lets us all know we fit in and are normal - too busy (it can wait)to tidy. Places to visit...comments to post! Isn't it nice to just enjoy the craft without all the fuss? I think so! I hope you're feeling better soon!

  11. Oh yes, I shout in the face of dangerous paper scraps!! I have a box for glitter/ mirri board, one for white card/paper and one for patterned...no, you can't tell the difference... Have a fun week

  14. Oooh you almost had me fooled there Julia until I saw your scrap pile. Now I don't feel too embarassed about showing my heap. At least your workspace looks lovely and well organised. What a lovely view you have out your window!

  15. OMG that scrap box is taking on a life of its own ... I have to admit that I don't keep anything smaller than about 3" bits now as I had an every increasing box myself.

  16. Mr D rises at 6 am and every morning of our lives together he has bought me a cup of tea to awaken me, I arise at 7am suitably re hydrated and human shaped, it is rare he sleeps beyond 6 30 even at weekends, when he does I am grateful of both the tea and the lie in....

regarding the desk - the clean space makes working easy I agree, but it is annoying when everything is not just right there in front of one and within finger walking distance and spottable at the quick glance of an eye,

the scrap box, I believe, is the Craft Version of the artists colour wheel and is a necessary prerequisite to creativity...go girl... make those scraps LARGE

  18. I had to move my scraps into a bigger box this week but now it doesn't fit where the old one went (it's still there though...) but my scraps are weeny teeny compared to you. Perhaps they are useless then.... must chuck some away Your desk looks great today. Very tidy - even if it's a cropped shot. Have a great day - with a lie-in. I can only dream....

  19. Also, I see you're using those little drawers I passed on to you, but can't see what's in 'em!! Glad there are storage possibilities there :D x

  21. Julia! You were doing soo well with a lovely tidy but working desk (shame about the headache - think it is the season!). Then you go and spoil it by showing us your scrap box! My scraps are currently in bags as I sorted them into colourways (roughly like - reds, pinks etc)! I am determined to use them up in projects such as are on my desk today!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. What a stash of scrap you have - wish my desk area was big enough to have mine on it. BTW I love your button jar.

    ReplyDelete
  23. hi Julia, So glad to know I am not the only one with scraps oozing form the box!also hope you enjoyed a lovely lie in - could do with one myself tomorrow morning maybe! must move along few more jobs outside in afternoon sun...happy WOYWW! Shaz in oz.x

  24. I gave up on saving scraps when my scrap box grew bigger than my paper stash, now anything less than 4 inch square goes in the recycle bin, apart from any of my 'strokables' of course.
What's with the scissors Julia, thought I was bad with four pair but I can spot more than that in your box?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Just think how many gift tags you can make with your scraps.... or patchwork cards !!!! I don't save mine... due to the fact of moving back to the Uk..but I will do once settled again...
I was looking through the list and saw a claire h..and thought, I havn't linked yet!!! how come my name is there....lol... it's someone else called claire H....
    have a good week

  27. Hi Julia....I'm gonna be AWOL today but not making any excuses as I'm having a few days with my gorgeous new twinnies and M at the hospital :-) Will catch up with all when I can.

  28. Scraps; and I thought mine were bad! Have a lovely day anyway, and just ignore them, it's just plain rude of them to butt into your life like that.... threaten them with recycling, that'll shut them up for a while.....

  29. I love how the the scraps truely runneth over! If there is one part of my scrap room that will ever be mutated and eat me alive, it is that scrap stash! I swear that it cannot be destroyed! LOL! Thanks for sharing and hosting as always! Finally got the laptop back today! Yeah! -Amanda

  30. I love your spotty mug. I need one. Your cropped desk looks very tidy and organised. Your mass of papers though, ummm I would love to sort that - proper therapy. Spotted the glasses again straight away.

  31. Those scraps have such endless possibilities you can't just throw them out. They will be needed next week if you do. We could do some cutting and pasting for you. Hugs Monkey & Norm.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh I'm so feeling the same shame, but at the same time I don't see how you can be creative if you are tidy (that's what I tell myself when I'm trapped in piles of scraps anyhow), keep it up I say :)

  33. Good Morning Julia,

  37. Another very neat desk again Julia. Mind well, ain't so! LOL.
    Too busy crafting to tidy.

  38. I used to have a huge scrap box but I have to confess ...I dumped most of it that was less than 6x4 and the larger bits got put in a RUB ...trouble is they are still there ...and I am growing another pile. As a card maker you must use lots of your scraps up ...I always find I haven't got the right scrap so reach for a new sheet and create more scraps lol.

  39. Does one always co-ordinate one's coffee mug and pills with ones project!! Lol, it's all very efficient and tidy.

  40. Lol! Lovely tidy desk. Erm... lovely erm... srap box!!! ROFL at your preferred method of self-administration of restricted substances. My preferred method of self-abuse tends to be via the respiratory system. Just recently I've been spraying fixative, sprinkling alcohol ink, cleaning up horrendous mess caused by the latter with alcohol - a heady mixture, I can tell you! The trouble is, most of it smells really nice!!!

Thanks for the lovely cards you sent me, they are ready to go to the cancer charity/hospice on the next visit! Beautiful cards and they'll be snapped up as soon as they arrive!!!!

  44. I wish I had as much room as you in which to work. I could not even get into my room to take a photo this week. Must do better. I have a solution to the scrap box overflowing - I have a much bigger box (it is getting close to critical now) - that works for a while and avoids chopping bits to fit the box.

  45. Sorting scraps, sure beats doing the housework!
My DH is on leave this week, so I had a sleep in this morning too :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Fun looking desk! I finally had to give in a sort through my scraps cause they were taking over the place! I love the description of your smug or your shame. Trying to figure mine out! Have a great week! Vickie

  47. Oh dear - do we watch out for a news item saying that crafter engulfed by scraps? What the heck, I bet you know your way round them anyhow - don't you?? :)) Happy WOYWW!! Di xx

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yay! Scrap boxes that look like mine. I picked up a book about hoarding and it scared me into cleaning out some of my craft stuff. The scrap boxes were next. They're overflowing like yours, but in my defense, I do go to them often.... I just add to them MORE often. Lol. Maybe I'll just pare them down rather than chuck them out. Sorry Hoarders Anonymous, I have to make that concession. Okay, I'll throw out the last 3 years of craft magazines... everything's online anyway. Lol.
