What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 769

My desk is neglected but for an hour yesterday, so this photo is taken as an aftermath of that slight activity.
As I was running about with the hoover and some clean bed linen this morning, I realised that I hadn't even got around to making my single monthly commitment- one ATC! Karen chose 'Red' as the theme . I wanted it to be a bit Spring like because it might hasten the arrival - you never know! So, I pulled out every red ink pad I won, red embossing powder and set to. I was going to make a complicated background of layered coloured images which is why the stamp set on the left is open. I put myself off that quite quickly when I discovered that actually, a lot of my red ink pads are similar and don't offer much contrast.  The tulips stamp is a solid one that I've had for years. So many years that it benefits from a time when I used to varnish the wood on the rubber side to protect it from ink staining. I did get over that quite quickly, but the few of that era that I still have really do still look as good as new!  I only used two reds in the end, and the embossing powder, and if you look closely, you can see that they aren't on the desk. Gentle desker, I had already put them away when I thought to take this photo. I know. I'm not I'll, but when pressed for time, even I recognise good housekeeping will help!  It was nearly lunch time, so the inevitable cup of coffee joined me at the desk, and then turned into a glue stick holder. It's not still there, promise! The Easter decs are still unfinished and shoved, not even pushed back. Luckily for me, Easter isn't till the end of March.  So that's me, off early to collect paint and wallpaper today, so bear with me if I don't show up just as the first need for mid morning coffee strikes!

  2. And, 1st March is meteorological spring here, so fingers crossed!
I hope your paint and wallpaper collection goes well and doesn't keep you from your coffee too long... Happy WOYWW

  3. I love tulips. Good luck with the paint and papering. I used to love wall papering but it was always a one person job as we just couldn't work together on it! x x Jo

  4. I have happy memories of wallpapering....often whilst pregnant. I think it was a bit of nesting. We have only papered a little since we moved here 10 years ago [maybe it's time we did a bit more?]. Hope it goes well for you.

  5. Unlike you I have always preferred clear stamps. All about storage. I just never found a good way to store wood stamps in a way I would use them. In drawers, I forget about them LOL! Liking what I can see of your red-on-red ATC back so hope you will share the finished item. Of course by the end of March and Easter I will have forgotten all about it so no worries if you don't :D
    Happy WOYWW!

  6. Some old stamps are just something we use again and again and others hardly ever come out of the packet. I need to have a good sort out soon and be strong and let some go I think but this one sounds much loved. Wishing you a very happy woyww, Angela x9x

  7. Great that you got your ATC done. Red is an unusual colour as lighter tones can become Pink to some. Hope your chores go OK today. Hugs BJ#10

  9. I love the look of wood block stamps but don't have the room to store them - there is something lovely about a new, clean stamp and I can't beleive I never thought to varnish my wood blocks in the early days - Ian has a bag of the old blocks as he can't throw any wood away and I occasionally claim some back for craft projects!
    Happy decorating and Happy WOYWW,

  10. I had never thought of varnishing the blocks, probably a good thing seeing as I can't manage to keep up with the crafting let alone looking after the supplies! Buying paint and wallpaper is exciting I think (unless it's mis-coat stuff) (or gloss) because it means you are starting the pretti-ing and the prep is done. Have a great week. Lisa-Jane #13

  11. Ha! I know you're really going to collect wallpaper samples and paint chip cards so you can craft . . . .
    Enjoy the searching

  12. Hope you can afford the wallpaper!
Well, red is an unusual colour for Spring or am I missing something. I would have gone for yellow or lime green. I wonder what a study of colours would reveal from a cross section of crafters. I am hopeless with colour by the way. That is why I like Dylusion figures, I can put any colours together, don't have to think about matching or contrasting etc. They are cooky to begin with!
Do you think, with all that youj have on decorating wise, that you will get around to Easter decorations?

  14. Red is like a Black... varying shades that just don't quite mesh. Go you on taking at least a little time to play. Housework, while a necessity at times, is so overrated. LOL Hugs & Creative Blessings! ~ Kelly #17

  16. Oh my, varnishing the wood on wood stamps! That brings me back! I did do a few that way but soon lost interest. Now I just unmount everything! Good thing you remembered to make that red ATC before the end of the month! It is lovely! I do hope it does bring us Spring soon! Have a great week, Lindart #19
