What’s on your Workdesk? Wednesday 631

631 already. And another week *pouf*, gone, just like that.
We had a Murphy shaped delay in the cutting of the door. He seriously didn’t like the sound of the drill or other noisy stuff. And he very seriously didn’t like Mr Dunnit. It’s been a week! Now the insides of the cupboards are on view in the dining room again. They are modular, two of these sections fit into a frame that has sliding doors. I’d forgotten this and was so relieved when Mr Dunnit just pulled them out and stacked them up…I really thought I was going to have properly empty them!  Re-locating the door has meant a loss of about half a mete of work surface. I’ve brushed this off as a complete non-issue. He’s not to worry or be sorry about that, after all, there’s plenty of room isn’t there. I’m silently shrieking inside though….it means I’m going to have to be a bit tidier and decide on the priority of stuff that needs to sit on the worktop. Turns out half a metre or so is a big thing. Size matters. The shelves on the floor (cream coloured bits of wood) have been washed and reassembled into the corner unit to house my wood mounted collection. I’ve curated them ruthlessly before re-loading the shelves. I’ve thrown two away - perished by age, and I’ve got four to part with. Ruthless.
Please show and tell your week’s story, your inspiration is never lacking and at some point, I will stop writing about it and actually get this lot sorted. Tally ho!

  1. Good grief dear Julia. It is still mid afternoon in Wichita. I want to wish you a very happy birthday, but it looks like I'll be quite late to the party, dear.

  2. You’ll be pleased when it’s all over and you can be back at your proper Workdesk. Happy birthday, hope you have a good day culling your woodmounted stamps ;-)

  3. I'm back and posted very early, which may benefit me since I need to mow my lawn tomorrow (Wednesday in my world). You really WERE ruthless in your getting rid of stamps. I have decided to do the same with many of my things I know I will never use. I hope you are able to find everything now. It was wise to take photos. They will jog your memory when you look for something after the cabinets are reinstalled. Yes, size really DOES matter! Especially when you run out of it. Again, happy birthday, dear.

  4. Good morning Julia, I don’t suppose you are actually awake!! Tuesday night or early hours of Wednesday, I wake up and think “I wonder if Julia has posted?” Yawn! Feeling sorry for Murphy. My Holly used to hate loud noises. Still yawning, I am going back to bed x Angela #3

  5. Aw, poor Murphy! Ohooo but look! lovely stuff in the making! I need some of those drawer slidding things like that, but I have no where to put them! Half a metre? that's nearly, well, quite a BIG missing bit! (seeing most of the time I'm crafting in about 6 inches square! But there's always the floor...and the hall.... it will all be fabulous when it's finished! Oh, and happy Birthday! Happy WOYWW? ((Lyn))#4

  6. Happy Birthday my lovely! What a reverse gift to have lost space...I’d rather gain space and lose weight, but isn’t it always the way? Helen will, of course, say just use the floor but that’s H. Have a fab day and enjoy your sorting.

    Big hugs,
    Mary Anne

  9. I am glad you didn't have to empty all of those units - result!! fancy purging 4 whole wooden stamps go go!! (I wouldn't recommend the floor without carpet to work on, it's hard enough with one! It's not my workspace through choice!! ) I hope poor Murphy is more settled now. Happy Birthday! Happy WOYWW

  11. Oh dear, it must be hard with Murphy seriously not liking Mr D. Am thinking it has been a "serious" not liking! Oh heck!
Love those cupboards, and those grey sliding drawers look fabulous but the 20 or so inches lost - that is another cupboard almost. Eek! Still, a girl has to pull her big panties up and get on with it I guess, especially when it is her birthday - happy birthday Julia.

Oh it sounds like you have had a week and a half of it, poor Mr D and poor Murphy. I gasped at the thought of half a metre less worktop, that's about the size of it for me when \I get down to it ha haa!!!! I'm as excited as you about the new area, it's really coming together now, you will have a hidey hole for everything.

  14. Happy WOYWW and it seems it must be your birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY. At least there is no building work going on in my craft room (hubby did ask if I wanted to repaint the walls, but they look fine and I just want my room back now!). I have been ruthless for a few years with destashing, but I reckon there will still be a few things that can leave the room when I do get to fill up the cubes. Ali x #12

  15. You’re catching me up now Mrs D. Have a lovely birthday whatever you get upto. I hope there will be lots of treats for you.
It’s pension year for me next month, at last. Six years later than planned, but how the time has flown by.
Give Murphy a cuddle from me. I knew there would be trouble, oh dear.
    Keep smiling lovely Julia

  16. Reading the comments above, birthday wishes are in order! Happy birthday, Julia! How can Murphy not like Mr Dunnit? (it's quite funny though!) Boo about losing half a metre of work space - we want more not less! Although work surfaces are like McDonalds - no matter how many there are, they're always crowded. Enjoy your birthday! xx zsuzsa (linking up later)

  17. Sounds like someone's had a birthday hope it's a good one. Things look as though they are moving along but loosing workspace is never good but I'm sure you'll work something out. Have a very happy and productive woyww, Angela x18x

  18. I see a birthday has arrived, so I'm sending Birthday Wishes your way, and I hope you have a fabulous day. Well done on the destashing, you are sounding ruthless and I wouldn't want to be a rubber stamp on the wrong side of you!

  19. Happy Happy Birthday!! I smiled at your ruthless stamp sort. Still you have to start somewhere. I had a visitor this morning and said I really out to get rid of some of these wooden stamps. They all stand on some shelves I recycled from work that held DVDs in a previous life. She said 'but hey look so pretty displayed like that'. So maybe not yet. Happy WOYWW, stay well stay safe, love n hugs Cindy xx

  22. Good Morning Julia, of course size matters. ruthless. ( we have been sorting boxes in the barn for a yard sale this coming weekend) and I came across a box filled with boxes of stamps, yes you guessed it 3 boxes came back into the house lol.
(but, a few more will join the others in a few days.) ruthless. That is very handy that the organizing parts lift out and away from the storage. I'm sure you will get there eventually. we all get used to working in a 12" square right? Hang in there, ~Stacy #27

  23. It's great when you don't have to empty a unit like that and they can be just dragged out of the way. You're right, size does matter, maybe you can find an extra 50cm somewhere else. Happy WOYWW! Elle #24, EOTC
