What’s on Your Workdesk? Wednesday 622

Theres a post here about the ATC anniversary postcard swap thing. Sylvia asked about the rules regarding decorating envelopes. As far as I can tell, for post in and to the UK, as long as the address and particularly the post code are clear and legible, then there’s no problem with decoration. I browsed the Royal Mail website and can’t find any particular directions about it at all.
Now then, to the desk.
Unusually for me, I have to admit to having done absolutely nothing this week. I’ve moved the LO I was working on and slung the rolled up wallpaper sample pieces on my desk. I’m going to use them for GKW. There’s a little (4 x 4) box of Origami paper at the front too. Found whilst clearing out a cupboard. Unused. Destined to remain unused by me, but certainly not destined to spend another few years in a dark cupboard! There is intent on the desk...a pile of ATC size blanks. I’ll definitely make a bunch up, just not sure yet on the what or the when part! The sun is streaming in, the blind is down to prevent over exposure etc. I should add that the wind is so strong it’s taken small branches off the hawthorn and the rain is ridiculous. May. Sheesh. Anyway, crack on lovely Deskers, show us your stuff, it’s very necessary. Thank you.

  1. The weather has been wild and so is the fact your desk is pretty tidy two weeks running! I am as yet undecided if I will make just the one ATC or a stack - a stack if we were meeting in person but as the poor Hubster is the one who has to go to the PO it is more of a consideration. Looking forward to it either way, one or many, an WOYWW ATC swap is going to be fun! And hey, don’t diss the origami! You might enjoy it....

    Happy Woyww

  2. Morning Julia. Made it this week!! Trust the "done absolutely nothing this week" doesn't mean you haven't been well. The colours of those samples are incredible. Rather retro! Enjoy thinking about the ATCs you plan to make - sometime - about something...
    Take care. God bless.

  3. You can certainly tell from the weather that it was a bank holiday weekend Julia. Hope you manage to get a bit more crafting done this week. You are certainly well organised for the anniversary. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #3

  4. We were lucky here on Monday, the awful weather didn't come till later in the day, so I did some shopping (although forgot to look for postcards) Good to see a tidy desk, even if it is being unused... Not sure yet how many atcsI will get made. Have a good week.

  5. I nearly bought a thick pad of origami papers from The Works yesterday, but, put them back, thinking, Why, have you ever done Origami? No. But the papers were pretty. And I can now spell, Origami. I was going to put a * by my name but was concentrating so hard not to let Mr Linky copy the wrong link, I forgot. I am hoping to do a few ATC's with postcards, at least one with a New Forest Pony on it! Your desk does look tidy. Puts my to shame, again. The weather's been weird here too. Hot but then freezing in the wind and odd bursts of rain. Been keeping all the plants in the potting shed. Running in and out to save them from hail, was the last straw! Have a Happy day, week and WOYWW!? Stay safe((Lyn)) #6

  6. Hi Julia, Loving the papers, particularly the one on the right.

I found this about the envelopes, but not on the Royal Mail site: You may use colored cards and envelopes for mailing (as well as different ink colors) if there is no interference with the reading of the information or postmark. First and foremost, the mailing recipient's information should be clear and legible. Write in block letters. Stickers should be placed on the back of the envelope, or in the lower left corner of the envelope, and must be applied securely with no glue edges. Do not use sequins, string, or crayons, etc. I found this for posting to USA:https://thepostmansknock.com/how-to-make-deliverable-mail-art/

    Happy WOYWW

  7. There shouldn't be any problem with decorated envelopes - I always put the address on a white label so it stands out. I'm already ahead of myself having bought the labels and envelopes and got my postcards printed - but no actual art making has taken place yet! I'd better get on it! love the photo of Stonehenge - only seen it once in real life and by that time you couldn't go up to the stones - I would have loved to touch them - they're so iconic! Happy WOYWW, Julia - hope you have a good week! xx zsuzsa (linking up later)

  8. I’ve been preparing for the swap. Jo and I will be sending ours together to save on postage and am hoping everyone wanting to swap with us will send ours together too ....either of us will pass on to the other happily 😀 I’ve also managed to get some postcards (eventually found some at the tourist information office if anyone else is struggling). Can you tell I’m excited? 🤪🤪🤪

  9. I’m laughing reading your post Julia, it’s like watching Line of Duty (we only watched the last one to see what the hype was about)
What’s an LO and a GKW. I know an ATC is an artist trading card.
I always decorate envelopes and I’ve been reliably informed mr postie likes it

  10. I think we might have to change some of the old sayings if this global warming keeps up - April sun brings May showers? Not quite the same ring to it is it? I'm intrigued by the wallpaper - what's a GKW? I particularly like the 2 more to the right, the stripe and the one that looks like it goes with it. Stay safe and keep smiling, Lisa-Jane

  11. Just reading Lynn's comment above - and AC12 thought they had cornered the market on acronyms, us crafters were definitely there first. Your desk looks very bright this week as well as tidy, so hopefully you are getting a little sunshine. As well as the wind and rain. I love the season's, but not all of them on one day. Slept badly and now late for my 10BF10 - but that blue sky looks inviting today and it looks like the wind has dropped. Desking and contemplating my anniversary swaps are the order of the day. STill loving the colours in those samples. Have a good one, Cindy xx

  12. Happy WOYWW. Loving those wallpaper samples. I may well make a batch of ATCs, but not promising anything. I often lose my will to craft at the moment. Lots going on in our 'other' lives, ie farming and other business. Ali x #15

  13. Good Mornin'!
What is GKW? and how do you use wallpaper for it?
We have a good sunny morning here, dry and calm but for how long? I do not know!!
Hope you don't get too blown away and manage to have a good week

  15. The weather was horrid here yesterday but it's sunny and bright today but I guess it's to be expected at this time of the year especially as we had so much nice weather in April when it should have rained. I had to smile when I saw the Origami papers as I found some of those just this week, unused which just shows we are all as bad as each other for buying stuff and then letting them sit unused. Guess they looked like a good idea at the time. Have a lovey creative (hopefully!) woyww, Angela x19x

  16. Hi Julia, your plans for the anniversary are coming along well. It’s good to keep things simple. The weather has been wild down here too.
My writing obsession is slower for now and I’ve just had an idea for an ATC.
    Take care and happy WOYWW

  17. Loving the tidy desk and the ATC blanks sitting there as a sign of promise that some creativity will happen soon. I'm back again after missing two weeks... still in chaos of a house re-wire, but very much hope to join in with the WOYWW 12 anniversary swap. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. 18. Oh, love your write ups..and such fun on that desk. Old Wallpaper is really hard to find, it works great on so many paper projects. And Origami paper, never had it, but I have just found 2 books on it and a calendar that each day shows a project, saved it for years. If you have an idea I can email you a plan for the folds or that paper also will be fun in projects. Thanks for checking on envelope idea, I'll just make it simple, don't want anything rejected !!! Have fun with the ATC cards, yours are always lovely. WINDS here are almost everyday here in this rural farm area. can't even put out my flags, walk or have my patio furniture on the small deck. Dust is bad and Picking up sticks is weekly ! It's the big branches that are daily But I keep smiling !

  19. The wallpaper samples are so you! I like the circles one v much, have you decided which one Mr D will let you get away with? *chortle*. I bought some origami paper too together with a little book, needless to say, they’re destined for the charity shop now! Hope all goes well with your appts/mother shuttling this afternoon, catch up soon.

  20. Good morning Julia and happy WOYWW! I have the sun shining here so I hope it is now shining for you too. We are away in the caravan and I always wonder if should announce to the world I am not at home. It is a bit of a giveaway when the caravan is not parked in its usual spot I suppose! It doesn’t look like there are many swappers or not many remembered to asterisk this morning. I have the beginnings of a bad headache so must go and attack the paracetamol. Caused no doubt by silent fuming earlier. My husband bought me Dolly so I wouldn’t be on my own when he took the other dogs for a walk, ( and we are talking about a couple of hours) but. now he has decided that since I can not manage a long enough walk (and she must have her exercise!), he took her - hence the fuming.

  22. hi there dear one, it's good to visit you and see there's still stuff on your desk! Love how those rolls/designs of wall paper look! THe wind and rain are indeed force, in the Netherlands too... I believe last year May came with warm/hot days... what a difference it is now! But those days will come again for sure... until then, keep warm and cosy and enjoy your day/week! Big hug from Holland! Marit #28

  23. Good Morning Julia,
well, if you don't want to make fancy folds of the papers? ( maybe it would make good top pieces of die cuts, like if you stack the die cuts for depth? and use the pretty paper as the top piece. just a random thought. I have been trying to use up stuff. but, I keep getting side tracked by the idea of playing with paints again. ~Stacy #29

  24. The sun came out first thing this morning and then disappeared until about an hour ago.
The papers look great. I see it's nearly anniversary time so will check out your other post, Hugs, Chrisx #31

  25. Think doing nothing is catching, promise I will try harder next week. Love that wall paper and I could certainly use it in card making. We have no restrictions on envelopes here only that they are addressed to the registered person holding the Apartado Number. Ani

  27. Just realised I had not commented, that's because I went back to bed and fell asleep for once.
Origami? I wonder if you are like me and just don't get it. I like seeing what others do but me and following the instructions is a "no no".
Another 'similar' is the wallpaper samples. Are they samples left over from deciding on which paper to use somewhere or bits you get for crafting? I used to get bits for crafting - stopped because I rarely used them when it came down to it.
Yes, May has been a funny month in its first week - now the sun is shining again and I will venture into the garden shortly - might run back indoors if it is cold.

  28. HI Julia, I'm very late this week! But at least I posted. I do have those weeks when absolutely nothing gets done. It happens! Sometimes I even wonder what would happen if I got rid of everything and turned my craft room into something else...but then I realize what I would miss. Have a great week, Lindart #34

  29. Pretty rolls of paper on your desk, Julia. Thank you for your visit. You are right about the GP's various hoops. I remember ages ago I was feeling unwell and thought I had a tummy bug and phoned the GP for an appointment, they said "Don't come in!" and I mentioned that I'd got pain round my stoma and they immediately said, "Come straight in!" Ha! Glad you like the progress on the kitty throw. Only one more column of squares to add now, and then I can begin on the border. Looking forward to seeing your yarn project! Everything flowers earlier down here - it's very mild. Sorry to hear that your favourite clematis has fallen victim to some mindless drone with no heart!

    Happy belated WOYWW,
