What’s on your Workdesk? Wednesday 609

Sorry it’s so late, internet problem here. Seems OK now we’ve had a very early morning conversation with the provider. Hmmm.

I took this yesterday, about 420pm. Hurrah, still some daylight. Note that the glass mat is clear of stuff. This means my desk is almost a third clear! As you can see, it was all shoved left and right whilst I made another scrapbook page. At the far end are two A5 (bound with lightly patterned Kraft) folios to go with the two just in the pic at this near end, under the foam tape. They hold die cuts and ephemera and are super useful, if not as well organised s Kelly’s! You can see that I haven’t tidied the scrap tray yet. I might, today. I count 4 pairs of scissors. Not a record, but a decent attempt! The teetering pile at the end is caused by having two small guillotines..the deckle edge TH and the normal straight edge.they do not stack and that drives me nuts. Am going to have to come up with an ‘off the desk’ solution. At least that way, the pile won’t teeter so immediately. Lots of you have asked about Shaz Silverwolf having missed her from our weekly meet for a while. Please visit her blog for an update by her Mr Wonderful. If you’re reading this Shaz, we love you and we send eating, iron and hug vibes to you.
Meanwhile, entertain us do, show us your work surfaces. We visit. Slowly. It’s a good social life. Stay safe all.

  1. Well, I did wonder if all was well in the Dunnit house but I can see it is situation normal on the desk and I assume elsewhere! As to the Off Desk solution, what about one of those pot hangers over your head? Guillotines above seems apropos, right?

I did worry a bit as Shaz was missing for a bit, so I am off to have a read of Mr's post now.

    Happy WOYWW to all!

  2. Morning lovely, I so enjoyed getting around to everyone last week and I've been keeping my eyes open for Shaz updates so I'll pop over and have a look in a mo. Glad you got the internet sorted - we need it more than ever now don't we?! Thinking about the guillotines - maybe a shelf under the desk? One of those sort of suspended things that are only a few inches under your main desk. I've got an ikea basket version that has arms to hold it on the desk if that makes sense?! Stay safe and keep smiling, Lisa-Jane #2

  4. It sounds like our friends have had another poor night. I’m feeling rather concerned about the lack of proper hospital care after reading Dougs latest post on Facebook. Just want our friend to be feeling better. They are such lovely people and deserve the best of care.
Sorry Julia I just needed to share.
    Hugs,

  6. Morning Julia. Guillotine storage... hmmm... a difficult one. Above the head? Awkward if the string breaks. Under the desk? Where do you put your knees? Yet - it wants to be somewhere nearby if you are to use it... I confess mine sits way over the other end of the landing, propped up against the radiator!
Thanks so much for linking us to Shaz this morning. I appreciate that.
Busy looking desk - and yet, all that space in the middle. I am mightily impressed!
Take care dear girl. God bless.

  7. Glad all is now well with t'internet Julia. I had seen Jan's FB post so was forewarned. Looks like you are still busy. Maybe keeping those guillotines on the top of a trolley might help? Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #10

  9. Good Morning Julia, middle of the night, but I couldn't sleep. Your window doesn't show much snow. Our area has had very little. Just cold, most of Iowa has had 11 inches the last falling. And previous amounts, I've enjoyed my walks and the fresh air. Love my hoodie! So sorry to read of Shaz's health issues, Jan had a link and I also watched a watercolor video she suggested. Not that I'm bored but. LOVE watercolor prints. I've too many projects started.Going back to entering a few challenges. I've missed these posts, but just didn't have it in me to visit and not reply. Life is a little more normal so maybe I can keep up. Stay Safe and Enjoy each day.

  10. Well I think you’ve excelled yourself today Julia in having a full desk. I’m chuckling here thinking this could be a ploy to make us think you’ve got a head full of ideas, are extremely busy or are telling Mr D you need more storage space haha. Whichever, you’ve brightened my morning lovely lady.

  11. Loving the desk today, it makes me feel more relaxed to see it like this as my one is similar. You could get one of those stacking things for the guillotine if you want to keep it on your desk. It's the type they usually sell in supermarkets for organising cans and things in your pantry and they are not very high so would sit just over the top of the other one. I have one but got it to go in the new cabin but could show it to you if you don't know what I mean however I'm not sure your desk will take much more Lol! Sending best wishes for a happy woyww, Angela x16x

  12. Morning Julia! Quite an impressive empty space on your desk. Things that 'teeter' are so annoying, I can sympathise being a tower maker myself though I am trying so hard not to be...... I have my large guillotines slid into little gaps under my desk. The only problem with that is if I want them I need to clear space for their 'footprint'. Read the latest news from Doug with a heavy heart, what a cock up and what a rock he is. Take care my lovely, Happy WOYWW, stay well, stay safe, love Cindy xx #19

  13. Wow that is a huge roll of foam tape, and easier than those little tiny squares of tape! Yep, 4 pairs of scissors is not a bad attempt at all.

  14. You certainly have a very productive desk this week. I have to say that I can feel my insides knot in anxiety at the thought of a teetering pile!! I have been hankering after a deckle edge guillotine for a while now, but my storage space is so limited I have no idea where I'd put it, hope you find a suitable spot for it soon.
Have a good week, say safe and well.

  15. We really don't need a lot of space to create and I have kept to a relatively smallish desk otherwise it all gets out of control. Well that's what I am saying this week. Hope to be back on a more regular basis after a little ! break.

  16. As I said on Jan's post on FB, the one week where I'm all prepared early, scheduled my post and.... it must have jinxed the whole thing! LOL. As if... :D

I cheated by reusing last week's desk photo but it really hasn't changed any. Maybe a magazine dumped on top but so it goes... LOL Lots of other movement in the needlework department though! Hah.

I love Mary Anne's suggestion of suspending the guillotines above your head - too funny. You really need somewhere that they're out and ready to use, but how about something like a butcher's block trolley with slots on a lower shelf so the guillotines can be stored on their sides a la LPs or plates, and then you've got a solid surface to lift them out onto for use. I appreciate space is probably still at a premium and another wheelable trolley is probably not what you need but it's an idea....? Something like this.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Relaxdays-Drawers-Wheeled-Kitchen-37x40x80/dp/B01BEZBH4M

  17. Good morning Julia and happy WOYWW. Sorry to hear that you are still having Internet problems, so many promises by companies, so little action. Sky gave us a Sky Q box for free, I think we have had it 6 months or so and a month ago it started disconnecting from the Internet. They “walked us through the fix” and it was fine for a week and then it did again yesterday! Technology - great when it works! Angela #17. I have been thinking about Shaz, thank you for the update x

  18. I, glad it ll worked for you in the end! I did wake up early to check that you’d published ok and then went back to sleep! Your desk is glorious, no indeed, it is magniflorious (a young Owen and Rhys’ highest compliment, lol!)

  19. Morning! happy Woyww, I was here earlier but clicked on your link to Shaz, and oh dear. I do hope all things get better there very soon, I felt so sad for the family.
I'm having linking problems too, in a way. The saver where I put my freebie won't work. So people will have to email me, which isn't too bad, but in the 'olden' days when WOYWW had hundreds joining in, remember those days!? I used to get well over a 1000 downloads in that week the digi was free, imagine having to email that lot out! Do you think blogger is on the way out? Well, your desk is looking very inviting! At the moment even the cat's having trouble getting across my floor.I pile my cutters up too, on the shelf below the one I usually use, they sort of tangle in together and you have to use a few swear words as the password to pris them apart and set them free. Wishing you well, keep crafting! Happy WOYWW!? I was #19 but that might change

  21. Hi eveyone! After almost a year of no blogging I made it! I had serious trouble with placing pictures and text on my blog and due to covid nobody to come and help. But a new provider did the work and I´m blogging again. Now I can read yours too, so good to see the blogs! Glad to be back, greetings! Francisca

  23. Hello ~ Great piles! I have lot's of scissors too and really need to keep only the ones that will cut ribbon nicely as I have way to many around that don't. The cart does look more full ~ Enjoy a good sort,... or not! ~ Love, Karen#27

  25. Your desk and the immediate surrounding areas look like mine! Except there is no clear space. I made the mistake of thinking that reorganizing would be a good idea.

Looking forward to seeing the folios in their final state. I love all things Kraft!

Thanks for the update on Shaz!

  26. Hi Julia, pleased to see you've managed to get back on the wonderful worldwide web after all. it was lovely to chat with you and Jan on Monday, though I realise I was the only one not crafting! I checked, because you mentioned them, I've only got one pair of scissors on my desk - how very tidy of me! Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #29

  27. So funny, o/h woke me at 6.30 to say it was a WOYWW day and i should be up. Never done that before. Why today? So I duly went and put my specs on and waited, and waited and almost giving up you appeared so I posted my link and fell asleep. Then I missed my Zoom meeting at 9.30 as I did not waken until gone eleven.
Your desk looks err... "mucked up" as we say up north. Mine is now a little tidier as the books have been put in place on a shelf (so the other room is tidier but my craft room is getting worse) but now I have other stuff stopping my crafting. I only wanted to find my Mica sheets weeks ago and it set off this tidying. I think it is a never ending process but I have three cards to make now so will have to find somewhere else to do them - maybe on a tray on my knee the way my back is. Ah well.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  28. Good Morning Julia,
before I ran out the door I headed over to Shaz's blog and never made it back in here.
I did laugh over your math that the glass mat was a third of your space :) but, I do the same thing all the piles are off the mat most of the time so, *shrugs* I do get it.
I am not moving my table around so, I have a spot on the floor to the left of the glass mat that I can bend over and pick up a score board and it made me think if I ever see the deckle cutter in stock and haul one home I would probably try to leave it on its side next to the score boards and just bend over and pick it up as needed. the piles prevent anymore things from being on the edges of the table unless I really get rid of things. ( which I am highly unlikely to do) YAY for more daylight in the evenings :) ~Stacy #30

  29. Loving the clear patch in the middle ready for action with the piles around it. I know what you mean about guillotines - they are so frustrating. Mine sits on the floor propped up against the central unit but its just in the way. Good luck with finding a solution. Happy WOYWW. I hope that you have a good week. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro x (#10)

  30. Hi Julia, Glad you got your Internet problem sorted! I'm very impressed with the nice clear space on your desk - but it just doesn't look right lol. My guillotines are on the top shelf of my wall cupboards, then my grandchildren can't reach them until they are 6ft tall - by which time if they cut themselves, they only have themselves to blame! As I'm guessing you don't have very high shelves above your desk, that's not much use to you, I just felt the urge to share! My useful suggestion would be an adjustable baking tray rack- that you could slot them into, together with stamp platforms, scoreboards, etc, and stand them on their sides. Have a lovely week, hugs Heather xx #34

  31. Hello lovely Julia, please forgive me for my absence this year just had so much on my little blog has been very neglected. I hope your provider wasn't BT as they are a shower of S***s leaving my Mother without a landline since Christmas.. another job sorted in January. It's nice to see a desk ready for creative business, i'm trying to make mine a much happier home this year. Let me know if you work out a solution to the cutters, if not on my desk they live in a little cube shelf that keeps them together. The deckle edge cutter saves me so much time than using a die cut. Thanks for the direct link to Shaz i'm heading over first. Take care hugs Tracey xx

  32. Hi there! I am interested in what you think about the deckle edge cutter from TH. It looks interesting but I’m not sure if i’d Use it a lot. It sure looks pretty. You desk is overflowing with so many goodies! Have a great week. Dorlene #31

  33. Hi Julia, I've skipped a few weeks in a row but plan to be back next week! I'm also happy with the longer daylight hours - it's a sure sign we're going out of winter. Will hop over to Shaz's to give her my get well wishes - I was wondering how she was getting on. Hope everything's ok with everybody! xx

I too am interested in your thoughts on the TH Deckle edge cutter...And what do you think of Kitsch Flamingo?

  35. Julia, you tickled me so with your comment on my blog!! Love it!!! I have the best boss EVER!! Every year it is something just as wonderful. He is so conscious of my favorite things and never ceases to amaze me with his elephant-like brain at storing those favorite things and then eventually giving me whatever I may have said months ago!!!! He is such a thoughtful boss! Thanks for stopping in and your encouraging words! Blessings to you Julia! :) Felcia #28
