What’s On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 585

Taken yesterday afternoon. About 430 after I’d come back from a supermarket run. See my reward? Diet’s going so well this week!  So there’s the fixings for a Christmas card. The snowman image is one of a dozen that I stamped coloured and cut out early in lockdown, with every intention of making hundreds of cards before we were allowed out to play again. You know that didn’t happen. The heart ramekin holds a spoonful of holographic shredded plastic. (If you aren’t distracted by the iced bun, you can just see the bag full at left.) I bought it a couple of years ago and really love it as a snow effect, but it’s very coarse. So I put it in a handy container in a small amount and snip at it till it’s much less coarse. It sounds stupid but makes all the difference for me. And is a lot easier to glue on. But..it’s plastic so very static. VERY. Enough said. There’s a small handful of photos on the iPad stand, waiting. Then as you can see, new purchase on the right, the new brushes that everyone but me seems to be using with their Oxides. I haven’t even opened them yet, must find a video to educate myself. Wouldn’t hurt to find a video to help me stop needing stuff just because everyone else has it too. Hmm. With that in mind, show me your desk please...Usual rules apply!

  1. Good Morning Julia! It's time for me to call it a day. So happy to have had time and the uplifting spirit to post something. Hope I dream good dreams. That donut has made me so hungry.. I need a metabolism adjustment. You have some fun things in that photo I want to try the handled sponges, but it is all online ordering. We are too far and COVid is heavy in the city we shop. Have a wonderful week.

  2. I've never seen those brushes before...but i know what you mean about videos that make you go shopping... I was watching you tube on Sunday in bed, and saw a gorgeous stencil I want!! I hope the shredded plastic doesn't fly all over when you snip it (that would annoy me!) but your dedication knows no bounds. have a great week.

  3. Enjoy the brushes, Julia. I got some smaller ones on Amazon and was amazed how well the ink goes on using them. Glad the diet is going well. Good luck with the Christmas cards. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #5

  5. My eyes were immediately drawn to the iced bun, yummy. Sorry about my mess up again Craftyani number 4 is the correct one. Think I've cracked it now. Never seen those brushes but living here that isn't surprising. Ani #4

  6. Just chuckling at my poor reading skills - I whizzed through your text and read - iced bun - that you bought a year ago and liked the snow effect! Lol - I really must slow down and read more carefully! Hope it tasted as good as it looked. Well done on your dieting. xx Jo #11

  7. Overlooking the iced bun cos that has too much sugar for me sadly. I’m sat here thinking of you snipping up your bits of plastic and am wondering if it would go in the food mixer or coffee grinder....yes I think I would actually try it (and probably regret it) πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  8. Mmm nice looking doughnut, diet not ruined just remember there are 21 meals in a week so if a few are not on plan in the longer run its often ok (and bet it tasted lush!!). Just dont sneeze whilst cutting the holographics!!!

  9. Those brushes are very tempting, I've seen them before and resisted but it's only a matter of time! I'll be interested to hear how you get on with them.
Ooh donuts - haven't had one for years but that certainly looks yummy and every diet needs a little bit of flexibility now and again.
    Have a good week

  10. Hi Julia, you are going to love the brushes but to be honest just forget the video and get them out of the packet and try them you will love them they are so easy to use and give a gorgeous blend better than anything else I've tried and I can tell you I've tried them all being a sucker for anything new. I'm glad I'm not the only one that started the C cards and then got otherwise distracted but at least we did make a start. I love that little snowman, so sweet. I'm off to walk the dogs now so back later. Have a lovely woyww and a very happy creative week, Angela x14x

  11. Hmm, Belgian bun, my husband loves them but instructed me not to buy them any more - that is until next week, I expect. I'm more of a cinnamon swirl kinda gal, or chocolate twist! I could go on listing the entire bakery stand, actually and now you've made me hungry LOL! I can so identify with the need to buy stuff just because everybody else has them - I've just bought a paper cutter which I didn't strictly need as I have an old one - admittedly 15 years old, but still very functionable, especially with a new blade, but I just couldn't resist buying a new one after seeing it used in a video. Happy #585 Julia! I'll be linking up later - I haven't written my piece yet. xx

  12. Think I must have seen the video about not needing craft stuff as I haven't indulged in ages really, just using up stuff I have. I mean I don't even have an Oxide, whatever they are LOL. My diet is going well too, but that is more anxiety about the surgery next week! Sorry wasn't even distracted about the iced bun other than it wasn't on a plate!!! Oh dear, my OCD is really showing now LOL. I have some of the holographic plastic strands, never thought to cut up and use as snow, thanks for that Julia, stored in brain I hope for when I need it. 13. All you need to do with the brushes is rub them on your Distress Pad and then rub them on your card. Most people find they give a better blend than the craft tool we have all been using for years - wonder who discovered these brushes worked so well? It's a much softer colour that you get so if I want it very deep I still use the tools. Think of all that money I have spent - a set of the square tools, then a set of the round ones - and the carousel thing to hang them on - and now they are almost redundant. Gosh, what money we crafters spend! Oh to take the colour off the brush heads just rub them on a piece of kitchen roll. Bet your order more - look up make up brushes, they work out cheaper.
Love your reward, its ages since I had an iced bun/finger.
Not quite got the picture for the snow effect - will have to see a card you make in close up and then I will know.
Thanks for everything, so glad I started WOWY'ing years ago.
    Hugs, Neet 7 xx

  14. About as well as my diet's going then! I laughed at the thought of you covered in mini plastic snowflakes, bet you find them everywhere! Like your snowman very much, same as my gernomies card which is now on the JanCave shelves :-)

  15. HI Julia, I'm SUPPOSED to be on a low-carb diet, so I was mesmerised by your bun :) I'm kinda working up to make a start on the Christmas cards, not quite there yet. YOu're going to love those brushes, I had to buy a second lot so I can keep one for each colour family and even though I bought cheapskate non-branded ones, they're so lovely to use. If you want deeper colours, you can just add another layer, but the blending is really soft and easy with them. Have a fun week, hope you get to play with your brushes :) Annie C #19

  16. I have those brushes but I still make a bit of a hash of blending. If you find that video about not needing everything just because I see it on youtube do let me know. I'm actually after the one with the 'what the heck do you do with this?' outcuts attached (collector's cut). I could do with the doughnut right now but really am trying to be good - rough night so likely to fall at the first hurdle. Big fruit smoothie coming up. Have a good Wednesday, Cindy xx

  17. Ha Ha okay i will admit it - i saw the bun first :) - Yummm. I have some of those brushes but i bought the makeup ones from amazon ( cheaper) I still use cut n dry foam though. I WAS going to say i have not ordered anything this week ( the stuff on my desk came last week so doesn't count) but the postie just delivered some bead storage boxes - ooops! Have a Fab week lovely xxxx Soojay #22

  18. I don't have those brushes yet either ~ I have them in my amazon basket...waiting patiently! Thankfully I'm not a big donut/cupcake fan, but I can eat a whole bag of chips :( Your snowman is really cute and I can imagine that the sparkly glitter is messy, but it looks so good!

  19. Hi Julia! I have some of that snow stuff as well, it gets everywhere! I rarely use it because the pieces are so big, I may just follow you and chop it smaller! Have a wonderful week, Lindart #27

  20. Good Morning Julia, well I use those brushes the same way I use a round foam tool. ( start on the scratch paper underneath and work my way onto the cardstock) and that is when I remember to use the brushes. ( I have some generic make up ones and I use the tiny brushes for small projects) for big ones I still reach for the foam. At any rate I totally understood that about the sparkly plastic. ( sounds like sequins to me must be made of the same stuffs)Oh, I am sorry, there is no cure for that sort of a thing ;)...

  21. Your desk looks great today. Nice and tidy. I haven’t used those brushes yet either so you’ll have to let us know how yu like them. I’m usually late to the party too when it comes to new tools. I hate spending money unless I know I’ll need the item. Have a great week! Dorlene #29

  22. Oh, you don’t need a video! Just grab the ink, the brushes and some cheap copy paper....then have a play! I must admit they do have a different “feel” and different results than the dauber or sponge square. You’ll figure it out. I admit it took a bit to develop a comfort level.

    Love your diet!

    Happy Wednesday! Stay safe.

  24. Hello, my lovely friend! I had to read through twice because I was totally captivated by the donut. It looks so perfect and lovely and delicious and ... oh and there I go again!! I love the heart porceline container and I totally get your static cling issue. Everytime I use sequins I wake up in the morning with a few in my bed! You and I are product suckers indeed! I have a set of those brushes. I had to have them because everyone said they work so much better. They arrived and have been sitting in the package for me to try them. Today is a decent day. A little annoyed, the guy that painted our home last year, is coming to repaint a windowsill that bubbled. Yet he mentioned in the phone call that he may have to charge us if it's blah blah blah. He used actual words but I didn't really listen while I felt my blood rising. So much for 20 year paint. Grrrrr..
I love the snowman you colored. I think I remember seeing some of them in a post way back then. I had so many intentions at the beginning of the pandemic and let's just say I haven't quite achieved them. But one thing I am proud of is although I still shop for supplies, I am using up a lot of old supplies. So that is making me happy. (said the shopaholic!). I hope you have a wonderful day my friend and thank you for such a lovely comment last week. I liked it so much I read it a few times.
    sending big hugs,
    Belinda #30

  25. Busy desk, but neater than mine! I am on a serious diet and cannot even have a nibble of your doughnut :(
I have lost some or to be honest I have lost the amount I gained inbetween May and now.
The sponges I use start shedding after a while, I would be interested what yours are like. I have spent several hours on the laptop today sorting out my files after the crash. I got so far and then left it, still quite a bit to go! Hugs Angela #31

  26. Woot! You do have a busy desk and that sweet is making me hungry. When you find that video share it with the rest of us so we stop needing everything everyone else has too. I still don't have those brushes and resist buying any because I have a box full of brushes from old wall stenciling projects that I think would work as well! I have a bag of that shredded plastic and was going to use it with my batting and Christmas village but the stuff grows wings and I found it all the way across the house. Hope you have a great week! Hope I can remember to come back next week...my memory is pitiful of late! Vickie #32

  27. Yes, the diet seems to work well. As good as here! ; D

Fun to scrap with such old photos. And talk about being out in good time with the Christmas cards! Much smarter than me who is always out at the last minute ... Have a nice week!

  29. 'Morning Julia! It's a good thing I just had breakfast, that 'iced bun' (didn't know that name) looks so tempting... and I MUST get rid of some/alot of so called 'corona kilo's'... Those 'brushes' look like tools to put on make up and I must have been away for too long 'cause I've never seen those before... I don't have Oxides either and I'm doing well without it - I stick to my paints and brushes (although I could do with some new brushes now that I think of it...) Hope the heat is gone in the UK too. Have a lovely weekend! Hug from Holland, Marit #8

  30. Oooh norty norty Julia! (Shoshi shakes finger...) - iced buns? Lol!! The snow effect sounds intriguing but the static must be a problem, and it must take a lot of patience to chop it up nice and fine. Thanks for visiting and I'm glad you like the blouse - definitely my fav but next week's is probably a close second because it's not trad colours. So glad that in the WOYWW rulebook desks can be virtual! (The only thing on my real desk at the moment apart from dumping ground junk is dust.) The acronym was a real problem for me initially, until my fingers developed muscle memory and I can now type it really quickly. I've always wondered, is it pronounceable, and if so, how?!

    Happy belated WOYWW,
