What’s On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 571

Believe it or not, this is a scheduled post, I’m actually busy first thing this morning. I’ll explain after you’ve seen my desk. As it still is, actually. I thought I’d get more done before I had to photograph it, but something else distracted me.
I was chatting online and crafting at the same time. Clever, huh! As you can see, my lovely easy to use moulding foam and a couple of moulds are in use. And can you see the jar of gesso under the iPad? Well, all three items are to do with next week and the Anniversary Challenge which some fool came up with. Good grief, I could very easily not be ready. I’ve changed my mind about exactly which UFO to tackle so many times! There’s evidence also from Saturday’s garden work. As in, I sat in the garden and fussy cut everything you can see in the blue tidy tray. It’s a lot of flip flops stamped on patterned scraps and the thongy bits that hurt the gap between your big and next toe are cut out separately. I’m just steeling myself to glue them all together now; I had this idea to use silicone on the thongy bits to get a bit of dimension, but I need the will to do it. There’s also a sheet of images that I stamped and embossed on Sunday, waiting to be coloured. So that’s another set of UFOs right there! There’s a hair band on the table too. Abandoned because I realise after using it that it’s not the fringe/sides getting long that irritate me. It’s the way it curls and sticks out around my neck that’s driving me nuts. It’s all part of the growing out process so I won’t be taking up offers or ideas for cutting. Just whining.
So I’m out early today to collect my car because it had to be towed away after some idiot filled it with unleaded petrol instead of Diesel. And then drove it nearly a mile before the missing and bumping made me her realise why. Because it was filled from empty and because modern cars are fitted with anti-syphon technology, the whole fuel tank had to be removed in order to drain it and start again. So that record of going 9 weeks on one tank of fuel? Slightly bu**ered by extraneous costs!

So now, join us do; in celebrating lockdown and being well by showing us what you’ve been up to. If you aren’t well or need a chat, say so please. And if you’re getting better, we celebrate you.

  2. Morning Julia. Ouch! That's going to hurt the purse strings - and the pride - and the measure of embarrassment!! Hope your car will be fully recovered when you have it back, and doesn't hold it against you. Hmmm... wonder what your unfinished project will turn out to be - sounds like you are truly human and have several choices.
Take care dear girl. Stay safe. God bless.

  3. Oops re car. A moment of lapsed thought and a huge bill!! You won’t do that again. As for the UFO challenge ?....do 100s of masks count? Cos right now that’s all I’ve time to do from dawn to dusk....I didn’t even leave one comment on a blog last week so I’m sewing in the naughty corner now! I will try to get my head around something but I may fail hopelessly.
    Hugs,

  4. Oh my life the car! We had to jump start our son's the other day as we're not going anywhere these days, although I might go out for a drive in mine today as we're allowed to now! LOL Can't wait to see your UFO's sound like crafty ones mine was (yes was) slightly different but a job I needed to do and your challenge gave me the push I needed. BJ#7

  5. Oops, that was unfortunate. Bet the air was blue when you realised what had happened! I don't know if I could chat and craft like that, knitting would be ok but sewing still requires concentration from me even after all these years!!
    Hugs LLJ 9 xx

  6. Ouch Julia, hope your car is running OK when you pick it up. Lots of UFOs on your desk. I have plenty to work on but whether I'll get one done or not will be touch and go. I have more samples to make at the weekend and I am in school tomorrow. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #11

  7. Hi Julia, Hope the car doesn't cost too much. Think the petrol nozzles and the bit you put them in on the car should be shaped differently for different fuels, then that wouldn't happen.

Hope you have a nice day. Sue

  8. Honestly Julia I’m not laughing at your petrol tank story but I was reminded of the time the wandering welder put petrol in his diesel van and blamed me who was five miles away at home minding my own business.
I’m very impressed with you crafting and chatting online. Apart from daft videos I’ve made with himself and a not very successful Pilates Zoom class, I’ve yet to chat face to face with my lot.
I better get looking through my mammoth pile of UFO’s for next week’s meet up. Until then hope your week is a better one
    Lynn xx

  9. Oh!!! Poor car and poor Julia, I haven't done anything like that, but we all make mistakes and that is one you won't make again.
Those flip flops do look fiddly, looking forward to seeing what you do with them.
    Bless you for sharing

  12. Hi Julia, not a good idea to fill your car with the wrong fuel though it's nothing compared with what my hubby did as a child. Apparently his father used to complain about the price of fuel, he was a butcher and had several vans anyway this little boy wanted to be helpful so he filled the tank with sand! The van didn't like it Lol! Have a lovely woyww and good luck with the UFOs. Hugs, Angela x16x

  13. Oh your poor car, hope it's completely recovered now. The little flip flops are gorgeous - I love the coloured papers, very summery. The dimensional thongy thing sounds like a very fiddly idea but I can imagine it would look very effective,if the mood takes you!
    Have a great week

  15. Golly Gosh! You have been busy....
That's awful about your car . . . I don't drive but it sounds like it's a big piece of work which equals big amount of cash!! Roll on electric cars. . .
I have a myriad WIPs but I WILL find one that I can complete.... promise!
Have a good week and stay safe

  16. Oh dear, I'm trying not to giggle, absolutely my greatest fear that I will do the petrol/diesel thing one day. I'd be the other way round and I'm not sure you can but what a nightmare! I also try and sit in the garden and fussy cut but the breeze is irritating - and it doesn't really take that long does it? Then I'm having to search again for something else to do. Really will have to take up knitting I think, papercraft really doesn't work for me in the garden. Despite my earlier resolutions I have done nothing about the challenge next week - better get my skates on! Happy WOYWW Cindy #24

  17. ooh no (((hugs))) you poor thing - i know others who have done that too xx I have one of those desk tidy thingies and have been fussy cutting too- must get it out so I don't keep losing things! Have a better week. Take care Soojay xx

  18. Happy WOYWW. I did the very same thing many years ago with my Rover Metro Diesel (now that was a classic car!). Wasn't entirely my fault as some idiot teenagers had swapped stickers on the fuel pumps at the petrol station. I had to be towed to the garage about 1 mile away, who were able to sort it out fairly quickly. Cost a bit though! Thankfully my hairstyle doesn't vary too much, however long or short it is. It is long enough now to tie back just about, so when I go out cycling I can get it tidier under my cycling helmet. Otherwise I wear a woolly hat outside to stop it blowing around annoyingly (only whilst it is cold enough for a woolly hat!). Ali x #25

  19. Oh Julia, I hope you can hear the commiserating groans from Downunder ... that’s a big oopsie!
Ouch, actually my sister told us at Christmas a funny/sad tale like that.
They were somewhere right outback in middle of nowhere pulled up at one of rare petrol stations.
There was a friendly atmosphere and chatting going on, when all of sudden the was a huge groan followed by a loud exclamation of:
    NOT AGAIN!!!
Apparently it was that DH had just done same filled diesel tank up with unleaded ... and the wife vociferously informed all and sundry it was the THIRD TIME!
    That trip.
Mm that really would be a worry, sis and BiL quickly exited after payment ...
Now UFOs I’m actually really really glad you chose it.
I just pray I get it done. I’m hoping to visit everyone if possible before weekend this week as time will no longer be mine but jobs lost come weekend.. mm things def need silicone but have number of those UFO projects to glue lacking the courage too.
Thanks for Sharing, God bless and keep you, and all you love, hugs Shaz in Oz.x mm can’t remember no #12??

  21. So sorry to hear about the fuel "problems" (mistakes...) Hope it won't cost you too much! I love the colours of the cut out pieces, matching the colours of your scissors on the left and the colour of your wire matches the colours of the pens... I bet you didn't htink of that while taking the photo but it's totally balanced! Have a great week dear one, hug from Holland. Marit #20

  22. Hi Julia, oh my how rotten! Everything went against you getting minimal problems from it, didn't they? The moulds look good, is that the air drying clay in them? Those flip flops sound a bit tricky to put together- and they're one thing I can't bear wearing, can't stand the feel of that post between my toes! I think I'm probably going to do Lucky Dip for my UFO's- I've got enough of them, lol. Stay safe, Love & hugs to you both, Shaz #10 X

  23. Isn't it about time petrol nozzles only fitted petrol cars and diesel the same. No a man wouldn't think of that. Looking forward to seeing what the flip flops are for, personally can't wear the things. Have a good week Ani #12

  24. oh my gosh, I am so sorry about your car.
(here the diesel nozzles are green and the regular gas is just plain silver) (as are the caps for the holes inside the flap part) and I still watch the attendant like a hawk when I go to get my truck filled. I love that you have space to have live visitors while you are crafting and I had to smile over your description of those shoe parts as I do not own any of that style for that very reason(my post is way photo heavy today) ah, and there is still a week of last minutes to get a project finished right? :) ~Stacy #30

  25. You and I seem to have spent our week in similar activities of fussy cutting! I have that blue tray you have on your desk, but do you think I can find it? I've been looking for it for months! I have had to resort to coffee filters for embossing! I know what you mean by changing your mind about which UFO to finish. There is no way I can finish my Quotes Book in time, I think I will have to change it to completing one page!It sounds like a great idea to chat and craft at the same time, better than watching the news...Have a safe week, Lindart #31

  26. Oh, Julia!
I hope your car feels better now. Thanks for sharing the humanity...
I'm in the same boat with my hair. The bangs are too long for bangs, but won't go along with the rest of the group!

    Lovely kitchen, too!

    Happy Wednesday and stay well!

  27. Hello, my friend! I am so happy for you with your new kitchen. I love it! I can't wait until we can do ours. Right now, we are focused on stuff on the outside of our house and I do need to purchase a new stove but my dream of a fully renovated kitchen is always lurking!! I love the color choices you made. Enjoy!!
Well, your desk looks so interesting today with the little bits and pieces. I love to see you video crafting too. I have now grown to love my weekly session and think we will keep it up even after we move through this phase of social distancing. It's nice to not have to worry about forgetting stuff at home like I typically do for crops. I am starting to feel the pressure because I haven't selected a UFO to work on for the anniversary snoop. Going to dig around today and tomorrow to find one. Stay well my friend.

  28. Oh no! I never heard of anyone putting in the wrong type of fuel - that’s horrible. As far as UFOs, yup...I got lots of those too and I keep jumping from one project to the next. Have a great day! Dorlene #33

  29. Oh Dear! Poor you with the expense and embarrassment. Our car has not been out much since the lockdown started. I am not too well at the moment, just normal M.E. issues, but I wanted to join in even though my desk is empty. Will try to get round to everyone. Not sure what will be on the table next week, but till then take care x Angela #34

  30. Ouch! What a nightmare with your car. I remember my Dad doing the same thing once in France, Mum was so cross! I have finally decided on my UFO for next week but will not be able to finish it as it is an on-going project... but I will have made progress on it so I hope that counts?! Happy WOYWW. Stay safe and well and take care my friend, with love and God Bless, Caro xxx (#6)

  31. Thanks for your visit, Julia. Yes, my hubby definitely wanted to throw the papers away, but I rescued them because they were too good to be classed as rubbish! Our garden is quite small and the washing line looks pretty dominating so he prefers to put it in the garage when it's not in use. Good idea to keep the little cap in your peg bag - ours is attached and you just pull it off and to the side so it doesn't get lost. After I'd taken that photo I realised that my huge hernia support pants are right there, in your face, at the front!! Nothing like spreading that all over the Internet, is there! Good thing I'm not embarrassed about such things but I did have a good laugh about it!

I've got soooo many UFOs and they are all pretty major, i.e. nothing that can be completed in a week so I'm going to fail the challenge, but I'm thinking about showing some of them off!

    Happy WOYWW,

You have oodles happening on your desk! I've been trying to get caught up on some UFOs myself. Almost afraid to look in a tray...

  33. So sorry I am so late mainly because of the computer - now got a new one - yeah - someone turned up trumps and bought me a new one.
Love your fussy cutting so am hoping you do use the glue to get the thongs to stick up a bit. Not sure what you are doing with them - cards?
But I am afraid it is a very loud "Oh Dear" re the car. Nuff said - won't dwell on it, something I have not done as yet and hopefully never will.
    Hugs, Neet xx
