What’s On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 529

Proof if it were needed, that I can work in as much as a 12” on any given day. The discarded glasses suggest that I was just there doing something, huh! well I sort of was. But it was yesterday. I managed, using the five minutes here and there technique, to create the 12” space. As I sat down after a whole morning out, I had a call from Shaz Silverwolf which caused me to drop everything and drive to an air conditioned Costa for iced coffee and a lot of chat. It was quite marvellous. They were here for the funeral service and genuine celebration of our friend Erika’s life.  The desk has to be cleared of scrapbook gubbins (as Sue would say!) because I might have a couple of new stamps to play with for card making purposes. They are seasonal stamps and I’m not talking about summer. Argh. Cue a couple of sticky sweaty glitter moments. Or at least I hope I get as far as glitter as it’s usually the last thing I add to a card!  Whatever you’re doing, show and tell please. If you’re in Britain, let me just remind you to seek shade and drink plenty. See me for a note to get off work if you’d like! I’ll include a photo of me in my desk crown and they’ll immediately concede. Probably.
So, meet here then please, put WOYWW in your post title and link your blog here. Thank you!

  1. I would love a note to get out of work please! I think your 12 inch desk space is plenty, more than I have most times! Good luck with the glitter...

  2. How lovely to meet up with Shaz & Doug so unexpectedly. Just sad that they were down for such a reason.
Love the 12" desk space (and glad you talk imperial). Evident to the left of the photo that you have had a "shove and push" moment.
Thanks for the warning about the heat, we eon't get it as hot up north usually as you do further down the country. One bonus I guess but that is about it.
Have a great week, ,and stay safe.
    Hugs, Neet 2 xx

  3. I hope Shaz and Doug were both ok, the funeral seemed to go well, which I'm very glad about. Heat and glitter do not make good bedfellows, hope it isn't carnage later on!

  5. Hi Julia, That was nice that you got to catch up with Shaz.

As always your desk is busy;)

We hit 34 yesterday and will probably get into the 30s again today. I don't need to go anywhere today, so can stay in with the fans on.

    Happy WOYWW.

  6. Sounds like a great excuse to down tools Julia, fab to spend time with Shaz and Doug but I agree with Neet sad about the occasion. I'll bank my note for another day please Julia, have too many errands again this week.

  7. I’m glad you were able to meet up with Shaz and Doug, Julia, but sorry it was under such sad circumstances. Shaz’s account of the funeral was beautiful. I hope you don’t end up with permanent glitter tattoos in the heat! I’m pretty much used to working in a 12 x 12 space because my studio is always so cluttered and untidy these days...

  8. Morning Julia. The shed door is already wide open and will be staying that way as I can't be bothered to carry the air conditioner downstairs. Glad you managed to catch up with Shaz yesterday, just sorry it was under those circumstances. Hope you can keep cool. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #10

  10. Coffee and a friend sounds good to me. Your desk looks perfect, just keep shifting stuff to the side and when that doesn't work there's always the floor Lol! Wishing you a happy creative week and a lovely woyww, Angela x13x

  11. Too hot anywhere for me just now, Julia, and I also had a planning meeting with the people from my voluntary class yesterday about the December festival crafting. Glad you had a meet uo with Shaz and Doug but sorry they were at the funeral of such a lovely young woman.

  12. Good morning Julia. I love how you've measured your clear space with your glass mat. There you go, enough room to craft! I would have to put everything away before I start again, otherwise it gets lost forever. Glad you had a quick catch up with Shaz & Doug - just wish it would have been under nicer circumstances. It certainly was hot up here yesterday, thank heavens for air conditioned offices! A note from you would be welcome for a couple of days off! Have a lovely week Heather xx #9

  14. Lovely for you and Shaz and Doug to meet up - we were meeting up with a desker yesterday too! Just look what you started Julia! Love it. xx Jo

  15. Oh to be able to meet a fellow desker for coffee or lunch. Being separated by an ocean makes it impossible for this old lady as I don't travel any more. I do feel like we share some time each week as we meet up on Wednesday for this little bit of madness! Thank you for allowing us to travel through your world!

  16. Thanks for your visit, Julia. That's a good tip about the teabags, which I shall remember for future reference. I do love the marks the drying ones make on the watercolour paper, though, and you get 2 different bits of art for your money (or not - used teabags are pretty much free, aren't they!). Frugal Shoshi! Lol at our visitors not being discreet about using the new loo! The little sink on the cistern has already caused quite a bit of comment. If the room was a bit larger, we could have a celebratory loo party but the decorator and his assistant had great difficulty fitting in there together at one point! Then his assistant arrived when the decorator and I were in there together, and the decorator said to him, "It's not what it seems" lol! I'm now looking forward to making the finishing touches so watch out for further photos!

  17. How lovely to get a phone call from Shaz and to have the chance to catch up again. Love the desk - there is space for creativity. I admire you doing glitter - I always find it for months afterwards when I use it and Tim complains so much that I rarely bother. Sadly I am at work, but the only advantage of being in work on days like this is the air conditioning! I'm on holiday soon and can't wait. Have a good week. With love & God Bless, Caro x (#17)

  18. Hi Julia, we did indeed have a fab ending to a sad day. Just seen from Ian there were 155 people at the funeral. That's how amazing she was. Wasn't that a spectacular storm last night? Erika saying her last goodbye? Good luck with the glitter-and with the seasonal cards. Like that term much better, lol. Love & hugs, Shaz XxXx

  20. Hi Julia, just popping in to say hello as I can't play today. How lovely that you were able to meet up with Shaz at such short notice. Iced coffee sounds great! If I had known earlier that you offered sick note's to get us off work I wouldn't have thrown myself down the stairs (more on that next week)! Stay cool - in both senses of the word! xx

  21. Sending our cool weather your way. It has been heavenly here for 2 days. Wonderful that you could meet up with Shaz and Doug. People dying has been never ending here. Mostly the very elderly, mom's friend at the Manor had her funeral yesterday. She was 107 and in pretty feisty spirits. Clearing of the desk to 12 inches, is pretty good. Amazes me how that is the norm or smaller! it's that way here too! Have a great week, hope you don't get the storm we had following the heat. My son moved again to Jersey and 2 days without electricity, when the storm moved to their area on the East Coast. They are not yet unpacked. So I am thankful.

  22. Love your working space and I can so relate to it. Lovely for the WOYWW bloggers to meet up and have coffee even though it was a sad occasion. Have a good week and keep cool. Ani ~11

  23. Hi Julia, had a chuckle at the WOYWW crown mention..l am sitting close to a heater here and it’s quite late almost 11pm, and need to get ready for bed, so wont comment after this, my days start late and involve lots of recorded Le Tour in amongst crafting, washing, and other tasks!

Yes, your clean space is the amount I reserve for working in too, then I pile up around it like today’s desk, curious isn’t it!
Glad you had catch up with dear Shaz and from your comment on her post she looked well, so doubly a blessing. Praying you’ll keep well too.
Happy WOYWW. Thanks for sharing faithfully each week, Shaz in Oz.x #24

  24. Hi Julia, the house is in a place called Driffield, near Bridlington. Last time we had a big family holiday we went to Cornwall but it was a long trip for the little people, so I found somewhere closer to home this time. PS - if I'd waited 2 weeks to tell you where it was, I'd have forgotten! Hugs, Heather x

  25. Iced coffee with Shaz & Doug sounds like real treat right now. It was good that you were able to down tools too and go meet them - despite the sad occasion that made it possible. Following your example I'm perfecting the 12" clear desk space to work on. And taking your advice re shade and drinking plent fluids - 26 degrees here - in Ayr - unheard of! Hugs, Elizabeth x #21

  26. A 12" square is the perfect amount of space needed to create! I think it's just hot everywhere. It's supposed to get to 106 F here in my town today. The A/C is cranking! Have a great week. Dorlene #26

  28. 12X12! What a wonderful space to work! Mine usually ends up much smaller and then I have to move to my knees! Glad you had a nice visit with Shaz, have a great week, Lindart #29

  29. Glad to now I'm not the only one that has a shrinking work space. Usually when it creeps into the grid paper it is time to clean up.
I about choked on my soda when i read you would write us notes for work! LOL
I love your window, but I'm afraid I'd be looking outside too much. Oooh look, a bird! Oh now a squirrel!
THe heat is awful but the humidity is beyond horrible!

  30. It's amazing how small an area we can craft on! I usually have the 12" x 14" area on my glass mat. Everywhere else is relatively full until I (usually) clean up after a project.
Hope you get some relief from your heat. Here in southwest AZ, USA it's hot and humid as our monsoon season starts.
    Have a great day!

  31. HI Julia, it seems to me that I always end up in a 8" square space out of that 8' long table on a regular basis. and once the piles start to creep onto the glass mat that, is what makes me stop and clean again. Uug Glitter. well, I wish I were a little closer too, or I'd beg for a permission slip :) ~Stacy #31
