This desk has been more interesting and more untidy.
But, it is what it is. Until later that is. Then it will be a card making factory. Ha ha. Saying that is a guaranteed mojo blocker! It’s been a month end and VAT return this week (VAT is a UK sales tax that we have to organise quarterly). It’s weird that the desk isn’t covered in paperwork and accounts books huh? Yep, the tax office will now only accept online returns using certain brands of software, so I’ve been on another huge learning curve as I shift our company accounts to digital. Man some of it has not been intuitive!!
The sign of hope is the scan and cut cutting mat. I scrubbed it with soap and water, scraped it clean with a scraper thing and it’s ready to add more sticky to it. It will e the third time I’ve done it, each application lasts less because I’m using it so much more. hurrah!
Hey, join us in the looking at each other’s blogs and desks will ya? Put WOYWW in you blog post title and link here. That would be marvellous, thank you.
Hope you get to grips with the online accounting soon... then back to making crafty mess not business mess!
ReplyDeleteMorning Julia. Oh my - what a huge learning curve! Glad you managed to get it doe so you can go craft now! Well done you!!!
ReplyDeleteTake care. God bless.

Hi Julia, hope you find the new software easier to use as you get used to it. A horrible job but at least once you've moved things over it will just need updating. Hope to see the results of your cardmaking session soon. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #4
ReplyDeleteOh you poor girl. I am so glad I was able to retire from all bookkeeping, tax reports, payroll, quarterly and yearly Federal and State reporting. You will never know until you retire how much stress and how you could even keep up with such work. I've no idea what scan and cutting is, but sounds like another digital machine. Good Luck you have my blessings.
ReplyDeleteHi Julia had friends around for arvo tea on Mon and a friend of forty plus years had the same lament of online eaten only for book keeping but having to get used to two new systems because one lot of folks used one and another chose another. So can understand the frustration. Glad crafty plans are afoot, nephew whose birthday it is today loved his water colour card background so that’s a plus.
ReplyDeleteSending warm summery hugs from Aust.

That is something I could not cope with - learning a new system of accounting. not that I can keep books anyway. Hope you get some crafting time in.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Neet 9 xx
The old saying comes to mind....if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. It only complicates thesethings when they change them doesn’t it? As for your pic today all I will say is roll on light mornings and long days....they are coming πππ

Hi Julia, that Looks like real work on the go there. Hope you get time for some crafting soon. Happy woyww, Angela x12x
ReplyDeleteI wonder who finds that modern technology is making life easier? It certainly seems to make things far more complicated in lots of ways - so time consuming for the user too! Such a spotless desk today! xx Jo
ReplyDeleteKudos to you for learning the new system, it would give me the heebie jeebies! Hope you enjoy the card making later π

Eeeckkk... all things 'numbers' are abacadabra to me, good luck dealing with those and with learning a new program! Hope you find some time this week to craft as well. Love from the Netherlands, Marit #16
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, it does seem pretty much everything is being done online now. In fact, can't recall the last time I completed a paper form for anything, now you mention it. Fingers crossed the card making factory gets into production as planned, :). Good to see you're getting along with the Scan N Cut. More practice will be done today, will probably try it on a scrap of card, could be the paper in the notebook isn't helping. Love & Hugs, Shaz #5 XxX
ReplyDeleteLooking very tidy over there Julia!!
ReplyDeletePleased to hear you are getting into your scan N cut, I'd love one but I can't justify the cost as I don't use my Cricut half as much as I used to.
Happy WOYWW

Oh no it sounds like a nightmare to me. Best of luck with it all.
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW xx Jan (19)
AFternoon Julia!! Didn't know you had a scan n cut but that certainly lifts the creative potential of your desk! I don't use min anywhere near enough but it's a great tool. I was just thinking my plan to clean all the mats etc for all my cutting machines was supposed to be done in January. Oops! xxHappy Wednesday, Cindy xx
ReplyDeleteI can't think of anything more depressing than doing a tax return - unless of course you can claim some money back and use it to buy art supplies! Have fun with the Card Factory later. zsuzsa #17
ReplyDeleteSounds like you've had an interesting tax season. I'm sure the new software will become easier as you use it. By the time you're through you'll be ready to relax and do enjoyable stuff... like cardmaking! Hugs and Creative Blessings! Kelly #22
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, been too poorly to do anything let alone do anything about the chaos on my desk so not joining in today but still enjoying looking at everyone's desks. I'm sure you'll get to grips with the software and submitting the VAT returns will be very much simpler than previously. Hugs, Elizabeth xx
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, This time of the year is so stressful for me. I take care of the accounting duties for my husband's business and my little business. I so look forward to March, when all of my tax filings and reporting is complete for both. Wishing you more creative days soon! Thanks so much for allowing us to share. hugs, Kim
ReplyDeleteHI Julia, ooh that makes sense. ( we just started a new quarterly tax in the state I live in that is a transit one that, this is so stupid. it has its own quarterly so, we file regular federal quarterlies, state quarterlies then have to do a second state one for this particular piece of payroll tax. ( it makes me shake my head since the rest of the payroll taxes are deposited every payday and are part of the regular quarterly. but, anyways. I feel your pain and I grinned like a loon that you had a cleared off desk since that is what I am flashing today too. ~Stacy #25
ReplyDeleteI am so grateful that I don't have to do the taxes in my family. Just looking at your desk makes my eyes glaze over. Can't wait to see the card making factory! Have a great week, Lindart #27
ReplyDeleteHello Julia! Happy New Year! I'm back after a long break. I know what you mean about big learning curves with new software. My husband bought me a new laptop for Christmas and I am still learning all the new fancy tricks and of course we upgraded software. (The dreaded upgrades) And I am such a slow poke my kids keep teasing me and somehow reference my age being old in the banter. Change definitely presents some challenges as we get older but I'm still not letting them call me old!! What do you use to re-stick your mats? I have some old cricut and silhouette mats that could use some help.
ReplyDeleteHope you get your software figured out quickly! I hate having to learn stuff like that. I need to get my ScanNCut2 in to production more. Again... learning curve! LOL! Loved your wood blocks. I had to go look at them. Have a great day and thanks for popping by!

UGH. That sounds horrible. I hate doing taxes and the worst part is a whole new system...Good luck and I hope you're back to crafting soon. Dorlene #28
ReplyDeleteUGh! On-line forms that are not intuitive are so annoying. Hope you manage to get to grips with it all soon. Enjoy your therapeutic card making later. Thanks for hosting us all. Take care and have a nice week. With love and God bless, Caro x (#30)
ReplyDeleteGlad to see your Brother is getting so much use you have to re-sticky! May the VAT process go smoothly (may the Force be with you). The last few weeks I would take a picture in the morning and be involved with other things (like the nowgrown child getting ready to move hours away), doctor visits (like one does when one has multiple chronic not so bad but irritating things to monitor).
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, Oh, tax returns every 3 months, ghastly, I find annual returns a nightmare.
ReplyDeleteWell done for getting it done, hopefully in three months time it shouldn't be such a major task if you have set it all up.
Now you can get on with some craft stuff.
Sorry I have taken so long to comment, I have tried 3 times to post using my tablet, but they simply disappear, so am trying this on pc .
Hope it works this time, or it might have to be an email.

Dropped in to say we are deregistering from the dreaded Vat at the end of March. I can’t face the new rules about submitted my books online. It took me all my time to learn how to do the return online. Fortunately for us we have dropped beneath the £85k threshold now as we slow down. Fingers crossed we don’t come across to many problems once we’ve done it. Xx
