Well, self explanatory, I think!
Two great lumps of oak. They've been in use in my house for ages; yesterday when I was dusting and cleaning upstairs, it occurred to me that I could gussy them up a bit. So after chores today, they are my plan. Should only take an hour or so. There's the remnants of a weekend scrapbook session - the acrylic box contains embellishments like fabric brads, flair badges. Some essential tools at right and a stamp that says 'Let the evening Be Gin' - it seems appropriate!
No snow in these parts, although it is horrid cold; stay warm and safe y'all. In fact, stay in and visit desks after you've shown us yours. If you need one, I'll write you a note.
Please put WOYWW in your post title and then link here as normal. Thanks ever so.
Barely any snow here (yet) it's cold too, but I am glad I am not in the US where I see they are expecting -51 in parts.. Will look forward to seeing what you do with those blocks of wood...
ReplyDeleteMorning Julia. Glorious blocks of real wood - love the stuff! Enjoy using them, and I look forward to what you make of them. We have about an eighth of an inch of snow - but that's unusual here as we are so close to the sea - must be more somewhere... as you say, stay indoors today might be a plan - but if I don't get to the shops soon I shall accidentally become a major slimming advert!
ReplyDeleteTake care girl. God bless.

Wowee what fun you will no doubt have with those blocks of oak! Am looking forward to seeing what 'gussying them up' really entails and will they have a use/purpose afterwards? In fact what were they in use for previously? you have me intrigued. You could do a whole post on these oak blocks.
ReplyDeleteLove the "Be Gin" stamp, I often wish my 'Vodka' stamp said 'Gin'. Why would I drink Vodka when I could be drinking Gin?
Chin Chin!
Neet 1 (I think) xx
If only Julia lol. It's very icy outside so I'd love to stay in and keep warm. Can't wait to see how you gussy up those blocks. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #4
ReplyDeleteFINALLY I have internet!!! I guess it doesn't like the cold either... no snow here, but bitter cold. Can I ask - WHAT do you use the oak hunks for?? My mind is boggling!
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW :)

Hi Julia, We had snow yesterday evening. It layed everywhere except the paths and roads, which remained wet. Hoping it's not iced up this morning, but with temps of -4, I'd be surprised if it hasn't.
ReplyDeleteLike others I am intrigued to know what you use the wood blocks for.
Happy WOYWW

Happy WOYWW. Interested to see what happens with those wood blocks. We will be in Spain next week and the following Wednesday, but I may be meeting up with the local craft group (and also visiting a lady who makes wonderful dolls) so I will join in with WOYWW if I have photos to share. Ali x #8
ReplyDeleteno oak on my desk, and no s**w either for which I give thanks! No platoon min either, so you ae a step ahead!!!

Well, that's different! Two more unlikely candidates for 'gussyung' I have yet to see!! I can't begin to imagine what you're going to do! Good luck Carruthers....

I’m wondering what you’re gonna with the oak blocks....you starting wood carving? Have a great week doing whatever.

Nobody moving out of this house today, we are snowed in. Send a food parcel and shove a bottle of something naughty but nice in there as well will you haha.
ReplyDeleteHave a creative time with your wood blocks.

I can't imagine what you will do with those blocks - my Dad would have loved to carve them into something lovely back in the 80s. xx Jo

ReplyDeleteKyla
Hi Julia, had a tiny bit of snow, then sleet, yesterday, then that froze overnight. Doug says he struggled to get the car door open at 5.30 this morning. Brrrr! Love those oak blocks, wood is just so appealing to work with, isn't it? Look forward to the end result. Love the stamp, I NEED that in my life. :) Love & hugs, Shaz XXXX #7
ReplyDeleteTop of the morning to you...from frigid country. Winds subsided so maybe we can make it through today without too much turmoil. No outdoor activity for sure, everything is closed/cancelled. Will be fun to see your idea for the big blocks. Good door stops ! I'll but your words to good use Let the evening be Gin. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI wave to you from a white world (but the snow is already melting so it won't be long before it's all gone...) Gin would be very appropriate but since it's early, I stick with coffee. Good luck on the wooden blocks and have a lovely weekend (sounds a lot better than mine... I have a funeral to go to...) Happy woyww and love from Holland. Marit #18

ReplyDeleteWe've had some snow, but it never lies for long - the salty air from the sea soon sees to that. I'm thinking those blocks of wood make great doorstops, prettied up or not. There's remnants of weekend scrapping on my desk too - just working up the enthusiasm to clear up! Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #23
ReplyDeleteThose oaks are a very interesting find, I wonder what they will turn into? I look forward to finding out! Have a wonderful week, Lindart #24
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, oh no snow here ( its been very mild here and they are claiming it might rain on friday) that is a curiosity to me of what you are going to do to those blocks, but I guess it depends on where/how you use them at home? my family has a few wood carvers in it so, my first thought was I had wondered if you were going to go that route with them. :) ~Stacy #504
ReplyDeleteLet the evening be gin is hilarious! I just love puns and this is one I never heard before. Have a great week! Dorlene #27
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a wine girl but 'gin' does work, too LOL Looking forward to seeing what you do with those blocks. Bitter here, too. Hubby is on the boat in Chicago. I've added his text to my post this morning.. Keep in mind, the temps can be colder :-) Creative Blessings! Kelly #29
ReplyDeleteRunning late today... we had some snow yesterday and more last night and the side roads are lethal. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the lumps of oak! Thanks for hosting. Have a good week, with love and God Bless. Caro x (#30)

Hi Julia, Wow those are chunky pieces of wood, can't wait to see how you pimp them up :o) Had to ask professor Google what "gussy up " means!Have a fabulous week. Annie C #32
ReplyDeleteHello Julie and enjoying the posts. Never can keep up with what day it is. The little grey cells seem to be in permanent hibernation.
ReplyDeleteNo posting by me. Health issues but getting my head organized and accepting what is is, is now underway and hopefully will soon participate with all the wonderful WOYWW players soon. Stay warm, it is 42 F today here. For us cold. HATE winter.
Hugs Monica
My mind has been whirling with what you are using those 2 big blocks for and they must be in view if you're going to decorate them. Hmmmm....
ReplyDeleteStay warm and have a great week!

Happy WoywW Julia and the gang, sorry i'm awol, had so much on this week and an early start this morning left no time to put a post together. Just wanted to drop by and wish you all well.. Stay warm everyone!!
ReplyDeleteHugs Tracey xx
P.S I LOVE those Lumps :)*
At first, I thought you were going to make a couple of bowls with that wood. We received a lovely hand turned one for Christmas. Hope you are staying warm. I can’t today. It’s only about 30, but it has been much colder elsewhere. I shouldn’t complain. Stitches came out of my foot today, but still must wear my boot! Happy Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteHi Julia not WOYWWing but did desky post at weekend on brusho technique but Darnell arranged a thank you blog hop for Di of Snippets playground and linked up for that then ran out of puff for Wed and done nought to share. Busy week and next week is visitors till Fri so may not make it or may schedule a post IF get organised!!! Never know miracles do happen.
ReplyDeleteFor example
... its raining now. Good rain first since before Christmas! Yay. Just finished washing so it will go in garage.
Hugs and happy crafting Shaz in Oz.x
