What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 457
Well, after my previous post, Sue is sort of expecting a tidy desk. Don't look Sue, I've moved onto to something else, and it makes a mess!
This morning my desk speaks of die cutting. Among all the treasure that Mary left us is a large collection of QuicKutz dies. In order to sell them, I need references for them because they've been filed in QK pockets and folders rather than the original packaging that shows the font and patterns. So, I'm die cutting each one and sticking it on the back of the die. It also helps to double check that each set of numbers or alphabet is whole. I'm not using the Squeeze and cutting them one at a time - 8 dies at a time on the big shot plate is slightly more efficient. There's many to do, and I think this is the first time that most of them have been cut. Wow. So that's me, what are you doing?
that sounds a labour of love and a time consuming one! I am sure it will be worth it in the end. Who needs a tidy desk, anyway!

Oh Quickutz - that's where I started with diecutting - did you say selling them????? I had 2 Squeezes before progressing to a Cuttlebug which can take 6 of the Quickutz dies at a time.
ReplyDeleteI love alphabets, the name of the alphabet ought to be on the tab of the dies. Do you know which ones are up for grabs yet????

Hi Julia that looks like your going to be a while making those up. May they sell quickly. Trying to visit earlier seeing I don't know what happened to last week it went so quickly

I don't envy you that task Julia. I must admit to also not keeping packaging for my stash otherwise my shed would look even more like a shop than it does now. Hope all the dies are catalogued and cut soon! Sarah #10

WoW..what an undertaking. I hope you don't pick up my habit of saving all the paper scraps. I cannot imagine how my family would even begin to know about ANY of what I have in that craft space. Lord help them. Winter weather does make us feel more at easy on using our time to craft. But for sanity sake I need some calm, sunshiny, weather and outdoor exercise. Too much mud and snow.

Hi Julia, your desk still looks organised even with all the die cutting going on. I keep the packaging from all my dies in a box in the attic. There are some I have never used so should look at decluttering and selling them. One day ... Have a lovely week Heather #17

ReplyDeleteHi Julia, that's a really good idea, but clearly going to take awhile - I'd be binge-watching something whilst doing it :o) I have loads of dies which I wasn't using, but now I have them organised in a proper folder, they get used all the time and I love them. Your desk isn't untidy just busy. If it was completely empty of stuff I would think you were either away on holiday or ill Lol! This is one big task but I know you will get there. Have a great woyww, Angela x22x

Oh Julia, I certainly do not envy you all that die cutting. Now if it was something pretty for a card or book I would be happy but repetitive cutting drives me nuts (thinking of workshop prep). However, it must be said you are doing a sterling job and I hope it all helps to sell the contents of the packages.

Hi Julia, that is one heck of a job. I have a number in in the storage sheets, and some still in unopened packets, lol. That Squeeze tool was hard work, I run mine through my 'Bug or Pro these days too. That's going to keep you busy for a while though.Love & Hugs, Shaz XxX
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, your intro to this week's post had me scurrying off to read previous posts and I just have to say I wish your daughter and her friends the very best of luck with their new venture. Prop making looks like a fascinating & fun career choice and one that I hope will prove to be a successful one too. I'm loving all your recent layouts and your pocket pages too - and yes, you really have to be there to appreciate the photos many months/years down the line. I know because I've been filling albums with a great many photos from years past and the pleasure it brings to revisit the places we've been to makes it so much less of a chore. So from layouts to die-cutting, a much more fiddly job by the look of it - indeed, a labour of love that I'm sure, were she still here, Mary would much appreciate. One of my oddities is that I love doing big jobs like that (as long as I can take some breaks lol). It's good to know quick kuts will work with a BigShot though. One at a time cutting might be too much even for me lol.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good idea! Time consuming but really worth it at the end of they day. I threw away most of my packaging and wish I hadn't now! Have fun and stay warm! I have a friend in Burnley that says it is really cold there! Vickie #32
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought that you could cut Quickutz dies on the Big Shot, but I can see how it might work. I used to have that system too and it seems so dated and awkward now, doesn't it? It cost a fortune as well and all that squeezing really hurt my hand! Hi Julia - just found the time this morning to finally get to WOYWW! Yes, my clean water jar is a sure sign I haven't had any time! Today I'm free to do as I like, so I will probably pop in there for awhile! My class hasn't happened yet, but hopefully soon, and I thank you for your support!
