What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 396

I don't know about you, I think the Wednesdays surrounding Christmas and New Year are in a sort of space time continuum, and they actually appear 35 light years faster than we're expecting them to.  Or...I'm caught out again...! I offer a twofer today, because my real desk is a little on the disinteresting side. To say the least.
I think the most interesting part is the doodled margin in my notebook. Naturally, I was on the phone, on hold. I don't forsee this week being one for crafting, there's paperwork of all varieties to do, good grief, being a grown up is so administratively time consuming.
Then of course, there's the horror of tidying up to be done.........
This is the floor at the right hand of my chair. Shocking ain't it. Been like it for a while now, so am all geared up to sort it out. You see...calm and controlled-ish on top, pedalling like fury underneath. Tip of the iceberg...and so on.

So, no doubt some of you are making the year's birthday cards, some are already making Valentine's and even...gasp, Easter! Shopkeeper Gal revealed her first Easter card on Facebook today. Gasp. On that basis, please, inspire us with your new year works;  it may be just the motivation required for some!

  1. Happy New Year Julia! I have been getting ahead with birthday cards, but only this month's.. so I can't share any and I don't think my desk will inspire anybody today! Your floor looks interesting (!) hope you get it sorted before next week (Christmas?!)

  2. #1 very unusual ! But unable to sleep, as I am searching for names of old neighbors. Whatever happens to one my age at this hour of our night on sleep habits. Crazy. I've a mess on my floor also, in the same spot, like I drop items I am done using, never to be picked up on completion of a project. Pretty colors on your binder and loving the doodles. We should have a special notebook for PHONE Doodles. Enjoy a great week, we here are -25 and bundling up as the winds are mighty. I even hung a quilt over my double window to keep the draft at bay. Merry, Merry.

  3. Good morning, Julia. Easter card???! EEEEK! Take heart, dear soul. I haven't touched a thing on my desk since before Christmas - didn't even turn on the computer for over a week. Did sit and crochet whilst with the family, but no tidying, no anything much apart from a jigsaw. I wish you a very special New Year, with big new adventures to walk!!!
    Take care. God bless.

  4. Happy New Year! Doodles look interesting, perhaps they could be turned into the border on a card - even a CAS card. As for making cards in advance, not on my watch - I somehow work better when the adrenelin is going nineteen to the dozen - ie last minute!

  6. Happy New Year to you and yours!
I actually really hate this being a grown up thing, it sounded like so much fun when I was small, but now - not so much. My desk needs cleaning so badly, but there are so many cool things on it I am not quite ready to put away.

  7. Mm, Julia I do agree re Easter, there were great protests here heard on the radio during the day about Easter buns on Boxing Day!! kinda feels unfair to be rushing us there already isn't it??

I have a pile like you floor pile, but it is the far end of my desk. I have someone who vacuums twice a month so cant have luxury of it on floor. It is actually good, as it makes me tidy more! :D

  8. Happy New Year Julia! Your desk is so neat and tidy compared to mine...no worries here about me making even Valentines cards right now. Need to make my daughter and son their birthday cards cause Heather's is the 7 Jan (38) and Chad's is 20 Jan (41)...OMG! Where does the time go? New Year's resolution is to show up each Wednesday...lets see how long that lasts. Vickie @12

  13. I understand everything you've said but a birthday will be here soon so I have been forced to get on with at least one which is half made on my desk so at least there is something to see today. I must go back and have another look at the doodle. Happy new year woyww, Angela x 18

  14. there was I thinking "isn't Julia's desk nice and tidy..." and then you shared the photo of the floor - made me chuckle.
Let's hope 2017 is a great year for creativity.

  15. Well, my floor isn't quite that bad, but right now it's not good. I'd come help clean yours, but then mine would still be a mess. Good luck with sorting and pitching.

  16. Love the honesty this cold dull morning. Hope I will have a nice mess to clear up soon.
Children going back to school traffic is blocking the road, so I have nipped on here while waiting for it all to clear.
Have a good week, stay warm.

  17. Hi Julia. No crafting yet for me - been far to busy and although I have all good intentions of getting ahead this year I cannot promise it will happen - life gets in the way!!!! I have a lot of tidying up to do!!! Anne x #21

  18. Happy first WOYWW of 2017, Julia! I'm trying to think what crafting I've done since Sunday and it's not much! That doesn't bode well for the rest of the week, or, for that matter, the year! I groaned in sympathy when I read you were on hold ... I swear these companies only know the value of their time but not ours!!! Good luck with the administration - it's a pain but someone's got to do it. I'm shocked by your floor ... I can see ribbons, threads and tape that just has to be saved. Where's Wonder Woman when you need her!!! Have a good week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #22

  19. Yes, what a mess. Shoshi's feeling really smug this a.m. having mostly tidied up after finishing latest project. It won't last, though.

A happy and healthy New Year, Julia! Thanks for all you do to keep all of us WOYWW-ers going week by week.

  22. Hi Julia, A busy desk. Looks like you will have fun sorting out the pile by your desk.

  23. Oh to be thinking that forward & be that organized as to be prepared to make Easter cards. I am a first time WOYWW so I tidied & tidied to make my desk on first outing, inviting & to look like I know what I'm about. Your daytime in pink is so pretty, but anything in pink is perfect. Happy New Year & I hope you find some surprises that can be put to good use in your tidying.

  24. Happy New Year to you too Ms. Dunnit! You are so right about being administratively time-consuming. Your desk looks great- ready to go and the other shot - well good thing I had coffee in hand - shocking! HAve a great week! Hugs,

  25. Currently I'm making my muscles ache by making them do things they haven't done in years like yoga and zumba. I started early last month and so far have not died.

I was making Christmas cards on the desk I show today and the photo was from Monday afternoon. I'd love to get cracking on Valentine's cards only the reality is I have precious few to send these days. I've decided to limit my card sending to those who truly appreciate and acknowledge it. Sadly many of my crafter friends are not on that list.

Enough about me, let's talk about you. One can tell that you are not owned by a mischievous cat or two (or 4) because that pile of ribbon and string would have already resulted in an expensive trip to the vet. PJ #33

  26. Happy New Year! Now I am imagining you like a serene swan skimming round your craft space with your little legs paddling like crazy beneath you! Have fun. xx Jo

  27. Oh Julia, if only you could see MY floor! Especially since the cat's favorite toys are scraps of paper from the garbage can, therefore the garbage can is usually lying flat with all the scraps spread around the floor as she finds just the "right" scrap to take to the top of the stairs and drop down. You will always find long scraps of paper on my stairs! LOL! Happy New Year! Lindart #37

  28. Happy New Year, Julia. Hope it's happy and healthy for you. I haven't ventured into my craft space, it's too frightening so you are not on your own with the tiding. I reckon we could fill a book of doodles the amount of time we end up hanging on the phone these days. Perhaps that'll be the next craze... a doodle phone book!!

  29. Oh dear Julia, that is quite the festering on the floor there. I couldn't possibly, but I have 4 four legged friends that would scatter stuff like that all about the house, or in the case of my youngest Great Dane ingest anything that remotely looks edible.

I've got to get thank you cards done before any others. Happily though I still have a stash of Valentine cards so won't get behind on those...as long as I remember to mail them!

  30. Happy New Years Julia, haha I have found ( or reminded my self) that one of those vintage suitcases in my room looks just like that. piles of ribbons and lace to sort. And I closed the lid on the case because, all the tackle boxes in the closet ( sorted by color ) are stuffed to the gills.
Me I am flashing some felt and stitching on mine today. ( nothing fancy just different for me, I have not stitched in years and have been digging and digging for an embroidery needle lol...) anyways, the doodles are cool :) ( I refer to that as being on "ignore" ) ~Stacy #41

  31. Happy New year, Julia! Your ribbon/lace mess looks like mine, only I have it stuffed in plastic drawers, yes about 4 drawers! Then I have some in a ribbon organizer on the wall, and then some on spools on a lazy susan. I need to begin to use it!!! #44

  32. Happy New Year Julia! I'm so relieved I'm not the only person with a floor like that! From behind my desk chair, through the big closet behind (which you can't see!) you can't take a step. That project is for a truly miserable day!You have peeked my interest on making birthday cards ahead...what a novel idea! Perhaps I will add that to my betterment list of 2017!

    Have a wonderful week.

  33. Happy new Year old dear! You always make my day. We must have the same great ape as an ancestors as we only manage tidy on one day a year. The rest of the time we are in search of hidden treasure on our own island.

  34. Hi Julia, good to know someone else is as messy as me, good luck with the tidy-up. They say you can read someone's personality in their doodles .... if that's true, then you are trying to be all tidy and organised, but there is all kinds of creativity just waiting to burst out!! :o) Annie C #32

  35. Happy New Year! Seems like the floor is a good place to put "temporary" stuff but unfortunately my cat enjoys playing with my stuff then it rolls somewhere.

  36. My first time to link-up, although I've seen lots of WOYWW posts over the past few years.

Yes, this time of year there does seem to be lots of paperwork duties to take care of.

I've created a couple of cards - one birthday, one new year's/thank you - so far this year. Happy New Year!

  37. Funny about the iceberg and yet so true. Notice I show the top of my desk and not the floor. LOL

  38. seriously? I'm making christmas cards to send for 2016, and maybe even some for 2015, and CHA models, or whatever horrid name they are calling it now that have to be in Colorado (somewhere out west) by Jan 13.
Mess- you call that mess- I call that a small pile, well in the amateur stage of mess!
    Ha- thanks for sharing!
    Love to you Julia!

  39. Thanks for checking out my workdesk this week Julia! Yes, it was neat because it was staged . . . but it's typically pretty neat as I clean up between each project. Although, this year we'll see if that holds true each Wednesday. :)

  40. Happy New Year Julia!
What a pretty binder you have there, so bright and cheerful.
Don't fret about the state of your floor, when I'm crafting I just shove everything off to my side desk and the main one always looks (semi)tidy LOL.

  41. Thanks for your visit, Julia, and I'm glad you like my mini-album. Not a bit hard to give away because a) I made it with our friends in mind as a gift and it was always planned to be given away and b) I made another copy at the same time to keep for myself!! Yes, more work but not that much as I just duplicated every stage.
