What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 346

Grr. My desk smacks of the wrong sort of work! I've been turning 2015 into archive files for work, yawn. And because I'm so clumsy, there's a really cute dish to be mended. I bought it in Phoenix and use it to hold tomatoes. I dropped it whilst cleaning it, and I'm not ready to call it a gonner yet, so superglue will be wielded. Despite chinks and cracks, the pepper dish will have to go on a while!
See my Memorydex there under the door lock? Have finally worked out how I'm going to use it. (As a  memory store...I know how to use it, silly. You can also see my glasses case pinned to the cork board at left. Its really useful to have it there, it means I know where my desk glasses are at a glance. Cuts out all the hassle of finding them, and then when I pack for crop, they're ready and I don't have to use one of the pairs I keep in every other room in the house. It throws out my system if I do. Just me?!
Come and join the fun then, put WOYWW in your post title, make the post about your work surface and share it with us. Mine will be back to abnormality very soon!

  2. Oops, what a pretty colour the broken dish is. No wonder you want to mend it. Hope it fixes fine. Cannot see the glasses case on the board - but then it is night time here and I am sleepy, maybe I need to call back when it is morning here.
    Hope you are ok

  7. I have to say that the only glasses I have stay on my face....cos I see very little now without them ;-)If I put them down somewhere I couldn't see them to find them, putting eye make up on is really difficult and if my glasses need cleaning [and they do often] I can't see whether they are clean or not when I take them off to do the job lol.
Hope you manage to repair your dish.....don't you just hate it when you break a fav dish.
    Hugs,

  10. Thought I was reading about myself there Julia for a minute. Mending dishes, glasses pinned to notice board, a pair in every room. I must be your twin.
I'm going back in now to have a look for more matching lifestyle tips haha

  11. Personally, a break or two (or few) doesn't bother me too much. It means that an item has been well used and well loved.

I like the Japanese art of mending with gold mixed into laquer - maybe a little bit of glitter?

  13. Good luck with fixing the dish. The colour and the finish on the glaze is very similar to some old pottery that I have. My grandparents were from Staffordshire and nearly all the family worked in the potteries so we have a few old pieces.
Anyway, have a great woyww and happy crafting, Angela x 15

  18. Well I always know where my glasses case is but I just never know where my glasses are - they move around the house on my head and get put down all over the place! What a shame about the pepper bowl, it's lovely - good luck with mending it.
Hope you have a good week

  19. Well done sorting out paperwork Julia, think I ought to take a leaf out of your book.

I rather suspect if I had a pair of glasses pinned to a pin board, I would not always pin them back up so efficiently.
One benefit of wearing glasses all day means I have them on from dawn to dusk, surely helps :) with memory .. But do use computer glasses so the system can break down and send me bonkers too :)

  23. What a shame the lovely dish got broken. Once you have mended it, you'll have to keep it full up, so you can't see the crack.

Hope you have a lovely day. Sue

  26. Hope you can soon finish the "work" work and get back to some crafting work :)
I only need glasses for long distance, which is great, but I do have very large floaters in my right eye which can be extremely distracting with close up work.
Oh, and happy new year, from sweltering heatwave Sydney.

Looks a very attractive bowl - I would recommend hand washing after fixing..... just a suggestion ....

  29. such a pretty dish, hope you can fix it, personally i've boxed everything pretty up and sent it to the loft, i have some particularly clumsy family members here who would seize every opportunity to break things - unintentionally of course- so i've given up on pretty things till i know i can keep them safe!

  30. Hi Julia, that pepper dish is too cute, I wouldn't let it go either :) but I have to tell you every time I look at your desk there is always something I like and this time is that beautiful tin box on the left on top of the green lid container. I just love that tin box, what do you keep there? hugs, Clemencia

  31. Oh no and such a pretty dish too, I hope you can recover it. I love your way of putting things where you can find them. I only have 1 pair of glasses. Mainly cos they cost too much for me to have a 2nd pair (cos of my conditions I have to have varifocals even though I'm considered too young to need them!!)but I love how you say you have pairs everywhere!! I hve to wear mine all the time so I know they are on my nose so can't lose them!! You take care lovely. Zo xx

  32. That dish looks lovely, my husband colle4cts anything chilli-pepper themed so he would love it! I'm "lucky" in that I have to wear my glasses all the time, so I'm never in danger of losing them

  33. Hope you can mend your dish, Julia! Why is it that it's always your favourites that break - never the one that you hate! Well, I guess, we use the favourites more often so bigger the chance. When I saw #364 I thought I went down a wormhole and lost 18 weeks along the way, LOL!

  34. No, not just you... I spend a lot of time looking for my glasses too - even when my desk is cleaned... my glasses are just too small and with a silver frame too 'invisible'. I should either buy me a pair with a real colorful and thick frame or, like you, nail a case to my window sill... great idea! So sorry about your dish, it looks awesome (I'm a hoarder of cute dishes, bowls and vases...) Hope you can repair it to your satisfaction. Have an awesome week dear, hugs from Holland, Marit #41

  35. I'm sorry to hear about your keepsake bowl from Phoenix, but at least it looks like a clean and easy super glue fix. I hate it when something meaningful shatters beyond recognition. I also like the idea of pinning glasses to a cork board by your desk, since mine often getting buried in my under the creative rubble that is left behind after working on a project. I hope you share look on what you do with your new Memorydex in the future. Blessings!

  36. Don't you just hate wearing glasses, I also have glasses in every room, I just bought cheap ones for crafting seeing as I can never find them.

  39. Hi Julia, I have reading glasses in every room too- much easier than trying to figure out which room I left my pair in. It does get so hard to bin a favourite thing, even when it's seen better days. Sentimental daft bunch aren't we? Have a great week, huge hugs, Shaz xxx

  43. Is a memorydex the same thing as a roledex? I have a little tiny roledex I love, and I actually have a punch to turn any card into a roledex card to fit right on it. Anyone, that looks like a roledex, love it! Happy Wednesday! Sandy Leigh

  44. It always kills me when I break a dish or vase; like you they are either mementos from trips or gifts...I hope you get it fixed up! Good storage tip for the glasses...I may be needing it soon; as my "bobble-head" action with the trifocals is starting to get old..

  45. I have a fair few dishes that have seen their share of superglue too! That's a brilliant idea about the glasses. Happy Wednesday Julia!

  46. Super glue is a wonderful thing, best of luck with the mending!

And why do I not have a pair of desk glasses??? Thank you for the helpful hint, Julia. I'll be implementing Operation Desk Glasses today!

  48. There's a few scarred dishes/pots that wouldn't take too close inspection around this house too. When they are treasured, as your pepper dish is, it's better to repair than to toss! And I can see (pardon the pun) that having to wear varifocal lenses saves an awful lot of searching - I know exactly where my glasses are from morning to night, on the end of my nose :) Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #48

  49. Pinning your glasses case to the cork board sounds like a marvellous plan. the only flaw I can see is forgetting to put the glasses back in there. Would that just be me then?

  50. Hi Julia,
Poor dish. As long as you have the pieces and your talent at gluing things, I bet it will look brand new! Your desk looks nice and busy. I think I'd be more into cardmaking if I had a group here to do it with and if I was teaching classes. I was a Stampin' Up! demonstrator a decade ago and really loved it. I had two monthly clubs and it was so much fun. My markers are actually THAT old and they still work great. It's been a tough decision and one that has been stewing in my brain for a few years.

I may try weaving but we'll see..... keeping in line with the fiber arts.

    Happy WOYWW
    Hugs,
    Kay

PS. I think I have those same glasses! tee hee

  58. Oh, poor dead pepper dish. Hopefully you can revitalize it. I had a chili pepper spoon rest and while washing it one day realized that it had been glued back together (and not by me). I'm pretty sure the cats don't have that kind of dexterity.
