Find out about WOYWW HERE and how to HERE. I thank you. I was in and out of the house and therefore workroom yesterday and took photos of my desk at different times of the day, secure in the knowledge that it wouldn't change....and I was right. My quality time is spent slumped in an armchair doing very little rather than at my desk being creative and whimsical. I've been helping Mr Dunnit in the workshop and truly, I'm pooped!
It looks a bit staged but its not - it is just in the order that stuff was dropped on to it. You can just see some of our business stationery - I've done a couple of invoices. The big green book is The Academic Atlas, inscribed to an owner and dated 1929. Jan rescued it from the 'pulp pile' at Oxfam, the charity shop where she volunteers . It's a gem of a book. It will make some grand cards, when we've finished poring over it. There's a handful of Christmas cards. You know, the ones that should be allocated already, but I can't think to whom! There's also a little pile of Christmas stickers from Nikki - thanks girly, and your card was lovely. The rest is well, just a mess.
So show us your mess and preparations will ya? And if you like, talk about whether or not your tree is up and house decorated.....I think I'm slacking! Put WOYWW in your post title so that we that are consistently late can find the relevance. Ta.
I was mesmerized by the book cover. Good for Jan, because this looks like something I would have a ball going through and finding collage fodder for.
ReplyDeleteThanks so very much for the beautiful card. If my post is a bit long this week, I'm blaming it on you.
Happy WOYWW and it's so good to be back.
I'm afraid I rarely allocate cards to particular people, there is no time - and with most of them being the same, not much point! they still haven't written themselves though, how very dare they! That's this weekend's task. after I've bought some presents... eek.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that book, it's fabulous. I am well jel! xx
I put up our Christmas tree on Monday, in Belgium we usually wait until Sinterklaas has been for the kids and that is on December 6. Vicky
ReplyDeleteThat is one lovely book cover and I'm so glad you got your Christmas card yours arrived today too. I make all different cards so when there us a big pile I try to match up some to my friends just for fun and it works most times 😆
ReplyDeleteHugs Nikki 5
What a beautiful book cover. Good spot there by Jan. Not much sign of Christmas here (other than the few cards that have arrived) and that is just how I like it, until Christmas Eve.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit bah humbug yet since the break in and haven't written aa card yet or shopped for presents much. It will be a bit last minute me thinks.
ReplyDeleteAnyway enough of that, isn't that book fabulous.
Have a good week Julia

Actually, that book looks much better in the photo than it does in real life!! Am glad you're pleased with it.
ReplyDeleteHugs, LLJ xxx
I love old books.....my imagination enjoys thinking about who has held them and enjoyed them before and I love the smell of them. That one looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteI hope work eases off so you can enjoy some crafting time soon.
Hugs,
Annie x
What a fabulous book - I look forward to seeing what you come up with when using it for cards.
ReplyDeleteI soooooooooo know where you are coming from when it comes to sitting down in the evening. There has been so much going on here that I just want to snuggle on the sofa with my tartan throw and do nothing (most evenings this has been achieved as I've fallen asleep LOL).
Toni xx
That book looks amazing! What a find! Show us some of the contents please next time.
ReplyDeleteYes, I allocate cards too. I have apile with me today to write here on the campsite when we've got a minute. But several of them I can't find the address. How frustrating!
Have a great week,
Lisca
The green book looks promising.. I would love to take a peek inside! And no, no tree and no decorations 'in da house' yet... I'm not much of a decorater but I always have my white christmas-branches-with-little-lights up in a vase. It's tradition to put those in the room on my mom's birthday (next week) Take it easy this week Julia! Happy woyww and a big hug from Holland, Marit #19
ReplyDeleteI love old books like that.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a lovely day.
Happy WOYWW

That book sounds amazing. I can not imagine why somebody would throw a book like that away. I have only managed to post two Christmas cards this year, quite shocking for a person who calls herself a cardmaker. LOL
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW! Its so good to be back
Tertia #21
Oh, that green atlas would make a beautiful art journal, too! We have done nothing, I should say I as hubby doesn't help out except to put up the tree. I can't seem to get into the Christmas spirit. So no decorations, lights or tree yet. Perhaps I will force myself this weekend!
ReplyDeleteNow that is a great find - I trawl a lot of charity shops but never found one that nice that wasn't expensive. I am now finishing off my 'special cards' for arty mates. Have fun x Jackie 20
ReplyDeleteThe book looks brilliant but you must show what you do with it , can't wait. Just about to post half my cards but sure I need more. Him indoors has put up the tree this week, lucky me he likes doing it whereas I like it up but not putting it up Lol! Happy crafty woyww, Angela x 24
ReplyDeleteMy tree is up and the house is decorated. Wreaths are on the windows and I'm praying for some snow. We are so warm here, snow is unlikely. Your desk looks wonderful! I Love the book!
ReplyDeleteGlenda #25
The Atlas looks wonderful, Julia! I wouldn't mind taking a peek inside! One great advantage of working at Oxfam! We've had the tree and lights up since the end of October! Happy WOYWW!
ReplyDeleteOh I'd so love a peek in the beautiful old book. My DH and I have brought similar things home and they are stacked up. I talk of using them on projects but can't bring myself to disrupt the items..One even has my uncles list of items purchased throughout the year. Amazing handwritten with a pencil.
ReplyDeleteMe..just wrapping packages again for mail outs..having family in far distances purely sucks. So does our postage rates. Have a wonderful WOYWW kind of day.
and thanks.
Ohhh that looks like a wonderful book ... would love to see how you are going to use it. I would of put the christmas tree but got distracted decorating a tray that has nothing to do with christmas. Have a great week.

Wow that atlas is amazing. Such a find. It fascinates me how we can do so much work on our desks or not and yet the same favourites remain! Glue guns and trimmers. Ipad chair etc. Never seem to disappear. I'm the same. Certain things have their place no matter what goes on around them. take care lovely. Zo xx
ReplyDeleteI love books, as well as the look of vintage books, so I'm smitten by yours. I just purchased a Scotch Advanced Tape Glider like yours, and can't wait to use it. Happy Holidays, my dear friend!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what you do with the book,
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW

I love old books. I studied Law at Uni so I spent hours poring over ancient tomes in the Law library. I bet you'll find some fab little quotes and passages to use on your cards. No tree up yet at Tilly Tea Dance Towers. Still pondering over whether to have a small tree up high out of toddler range or go the full monty and have a big one he can enjoy fiddling with! Happy crafting, Max #34
ReplyDeleteOoh...can't wait to see the cool things you do with that book! I'd love to spend a day with Jan working at that shop. I personally love the un-staged desk most of all. That is what this lovely party is all about. Hugs! Sandy Leigh
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW. Yes, our tree and most of the decorations are up. Too early for me, but we hosted a Xmas Lunch here on Sunday, so I felt I had to have it festive for our guests. I have sent out the majority of my cards - but got still got a few to make for close family. That needs to be done today/early tomorrow, so I can get them posted whilst we are out tomorrow anyway. Panic!!! Ali x #39
ReplyDeleteThat book looks fab - I love finding old treasures like that. Hope you are recovering from all your workshop activity! x Jo
ReplyDeleteI made it! LOL Forgot again! So, your husband keeps you busy too, and it interferes with your crafting! Happy WOYWW! #44
ReplyDeleteThat old atlas looks really cool. I don't know if I would have the nerve to take it apart for cards! As far as decorating goes, I never took my tree down from last year, and finally just threw a sheet over it last June. So all I had to do was remove the sheet! Easiest decorating I've ever done. But the rest of the house isn't done yet. Thanks for visiting me.

Slacking!?!? Slacking!!! How can anyone be slacking at this time of the year ..... I'm now on double time!!!
ReplyDeleteSuppose I could cancel all the peripheries and concentrate on the pressies and food ...... sounds good to me!
Take care
Christine

I wouldn't have been able to resist such a book either! Luckily the old one I've been tearing lately had the front pages missing. No date, not really much worth (though from the texts I found it's perhaps from 1860). Our Christmas tree doesn't go up before the 23rd. If I get to choose, we have a real live tree... and they don't last for much more than a week. But a plastic one just doesn't have the feeling and scent for me! Happy woyww :)
ReplyDeleteKristiina #31
Awesome book! Desk looks busy too! Decided to try to post before visiting my therapist...Have a great week! Vickie #48
ReplyDeleteMade it! Hello Julia! No tree up yet - went and got it today. Got some decorations in place- hope to finish tomorrow. Ashamed to say had to buy some cards- made some but running out of time :-( Anne x #49
ReplyDeleteThat's a gorgeous old book you have there. It seems a shame to do anything to it other than admire it. I'm sure you will do it proud though.
ReplyDeleteLove the book! Also love charity shops, you can find real treasures there. I´m looking forward to cards made of this.
ReplyDeleteI didn´t do any cardmaking for a few years, but seeing your cards made me think about making one once in a while!
Have a nice week,
groetjes
Francisca
Hi Julia, I've been out and about today so couldn't really join in - had to be realistic about it - but still had to take a peek at your desk. Love the old book of maps. Hopefully nothing will prevent me from joining in next Wednesday. Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth xx
ReplyDeleteLove that cover - once you've used the contents you can use the cover to make a journal. Christmas hasn't arrived at our house yet. The tree will get bought this weekend but will probably remain undecorated till next weekend.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,
Lizzie J #52
That book does look wonderful--just the cover is good enough for me!
ReplyDeleteNot desking this week, just stopping by to say hi.
:)
I just love, love, love that gem of a book that Jan found! Lucky, lucky you that she passed it on to you! Happy WOYWW!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness..I have been a naughty desker. I forgot to leave you a nice comment about your desk and then you came and visited me anyway! I got caught up in doing all my stupid errands yesterday and then setting up my Mom's holiday lights for 3 hours (should have taken 20 minutes but she adds things like cutting back plants, raking, and sweeping the walk...and setting up her new printer LOL) Thanks for visiting me ;)
