What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 304

Supreme in afternoon sunlight, here is my desk at Tuesday afternoon. It was a stroke of genius actually, taking the photo then. See, I was at work with Mr Dunnit and had to come home to collect some drawings with necessary dimensions that he'd forgotten. It occurred to me to snap the desk in daylight as I knew it wouldn't change. Glad I did, because we ended up doing overtime and I crashed into my arm chair when I got home and didn't leave it till bedtime!

I'm working on a card for Grandpa's birthday. At this point, you can see, I've cut out all the letters and bits for overlapping letter contrasts. They are yet to be stuck down. And because I have NO intention of cutting any of them out for a second time, I've put an acrylic block over them so that people can come and go within the range of my desk and the pieces won't be lost ripped, bent or fly away. The indelicately balanced mug is, I promise, totally empty. Someone asked what the pegs are for - holding small bits while I heat gun them, as 'clamps' for gluing difficult things...that sort of thing.
So now, share please; it's always lovely to see what you're up to. Please put WOYWW in your blog post title and link yourself here. Lovely. Thank you.
HOUSEKEEPING:
In 8 weeks people, it will be WOYWW 312; that will be the sum total of SIX years of us WOYWWing. Being Deskers. That's Wednesday 27th May for those of you who go by calendar dates and not WOYWW numbers. So we'll attempt that friendliest of gestures - an Anniversary ATC swap.  I'll write a post about it separately so as not to bore the glue off your paper at this point.

  7. Is it an April Fool that there is no link today?!
The card looks as if it will be lovely.. good idea to cover the loose letters with an acrylic block till you're ready to stick the letters down.

  12. Keep a weather eye on those letters. Remember my letter that disappeared on it's way to the floor when I was in the middle of gluing them down? It's never come out of hiding btw.

And yay! Six years : D. so many possibilities though for a swap. More stamps, more problems lol.

  30. Ha, I saw there was no Mr Linky so I came back later. In fact I was just going to bed and remembered. Love the card letters and what a good idea to weigh them down. They would certainly have come to a nasty end other wise. Can't believe it's nearly six years, I'll have to try and do an ATC.
Have a great week, the pillows are calling me (yawn).

  32. Yoo-hoo, Julia, it's me back once again ... apologies for being so sporadic in my visits recently but it's just down to my upsy-downsy energy levels at the moment ... a few more weeks and all should be normal again. Love the light on your desk today/yesterday ... another sign of the better days coming. Glad to find the precariously place cup is empty :) Overtime ... sounds like business is good - exhausting yes, but good for you both too :) Hoping the weekend is a bit more leisurely for you and you get to finish of grandpa's card. 38. What an intriguing desk you have! I like the toy dragon at the back! Great idea to keep those fiddly letters in one place with an acrylic block. I've never made an ATC before and am keen to take part in the forthcoming swap! Thanks for leaving me a message :)
    Have a good week :)

  39. I love the simplicity of the card but not the fussy cutting isn't that what die machines are for? thought you would of had some alphabet die somewhere to do that. I do like the paper choice too. Oh and the faithful acrylic block to stop the mess, where would we be without them. I hope you have a wonderful Easter and don't eat to many Easter eggs. Oh to hell with it eat them all.

  40. What a great idea to put the card under your mat - things do get lost, especially in my house with a kitten on the prowl! Your desk looks wonderfully used -I see another birthday card in the corner! I always have cups of some sort perched here and there, I just have to be careful not to pop a brush full of paint into my coffee! Lindart #51

  45. Hello!

Lots going on again today at your workdesk! I love that you 'protected' your letters from accidental damage. I do this also because of my cat Jimbo. He usually doesn't go by my workdesk area but one never knows and with all the fussy cutting I do I don't want to lose a piece and have to do it over! Wishing you a happy day today - we have sunshine and warm weather here in this part of WI today!

    Hugs,

    Barbara Diane

  46. Ah, the second best thing about reading others' blogs (after the friendship and fun), is the brilliant and clever ideas that others have.
And today, you've given us two for the price of one, Julia! A large acrylic block over your cut-out pieces, so they don't get knocked off the desk, or blown away; And clothes pegs, to use as holders for little bits and when heating things. Both very clever - both "I wish I'd thought of that!" kind of ideas.

By the way, I do like that lettering - it will be a lovely card, when it's done.

The ATC Swap sounds interesting. I have never made an ATC - maybe I could try...

    Happy Wednesday!

  48. That was a stroke of genius, and I love seeing your busy, happy desk in broad daylight! Seeing the letters all cut out reminds me that I need more letter dies for the Big Shot. Fussy cutting is not one of my strong points. Thanks for visiting me today! I'm so late getting around because of work. Oh well. Sandy Leigh
