What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 296

Read all about this WOYWW thing here, learn how to join in here. Easy. No commitment, no fees and no effort. If you show it like it is. If you find yourself tidying up to take the desk photo - that's effort!
So here's my almost mid-action, lack of effort desk...
Poor lighting, speed photography not helping my cause one bit!  The glasses are readers and designated for this room. Although I notice now that they really aren't quite strong enough now...gawd.  You can see the corner rounder at front right...driving me mad because the most used 1/4 size seems blunt and chewy. Left out to remind me to ask Mr Dunnit for some help.  You can see the Stickles holder in all it's glory.  I spent most of yesterday trying to get a Christmas card idea to work, hence the presence of glitter. Boy,what a waste of time. Everything else is just associated paraphernalia.  Will tidy up as the day wears on and start something else if Mr Dunnit allows me home from work while it's daylight!
Show and tell then will ya..maybe inspire to get something finished! Please put WOYWW in your blog title and link here.  When you visit others, leave your link list number; it makes it easier for reciprocal visits to be made! Have a lovely day y'all.

  1. ahhh Julia kind of know how you spend time making a mess then come back with nothing else to show for it..
I seem to always have few pots (cards) on the boil... and my desks are nearly always mid-mess/ action so to speak... happy WOYWW, as you day begins and ours winds up!!

  4. I knew as soon as I went to make my lunch to take to work, you'd post! The desk looks very busy - I'm looking forward to the days of getting home in daylight so much!! Have you tried silver foil in your punch? I read it is meant to sharpen them up a bit... no idea if it works.

  5. I'm noticing the daylight hours are getting a little longer each day now so hopefully this will mean more fun time when the work is done for you :-)

  7. Hope the mojo reappears soon. I feel your pain with the glasses, such a faff booking an eye appointment then choosing glasses then having to wait a week or so for them!

  11. Hi Julia
Happy new year to you. I'm a bit hit and miss these days with blogging but it's nice to have the consistency of your weekly WOYWW to come back to, like an old friend.
Thanks for keeping us all together.

  12. Hi Julia, oh isn't that so maddening when your idea just doesn't turn out like the picture in your head, I hate giving up on them - so grows a pile on the side of my desk, which I thinned out last week. Try using your corner rounder with aluminum foil, I sharpened my guillotine with it. Enjoy your week RobynO#20

  13. Good Morning Julia! Happy WOYWW day! Here's hoping Mr D gets your corner rounder back to being sharp again - let us know how he gets on and any tips that will irk for keeping those things sharp, eh?

  14. I think it was a no go on the Christmas card, because you really aren't motivated. Christmas is too far away! LOL #32

  15. How interesting that people are suggesting the use of fool to sharpen the round what's it....I'd have thought doing that would have blunted the blade!
And Christmas? Noooooooohh, don't do it!

  16. Hi Julia, work has a terrible habit of getting in the way and distracting the creative process and that's probably one of the reasons you are feeling a bit fed up. But the days are starting to lengthen a little which might help. Hope you have a better WOYWW as the week progresses, Angela x 33

  18. I'm sure I saw somewhere that if you use kitchen foil in punches it helps sharpen them.

  19. Ah if it don't work, move on and chuck it out, do the opposite it sometimes helps. It does look really dark outside that window. As for Mr D tell him you are needed at your desk to do some important stuff and play till your heart is content. Have a wonderful week and happy WOYWW thanks for hosting the best blog hop in the world.

  20. Hi Julia. Shame re card - I can't do Christmas yet. Have heard/tried aluminium tip but it didn't work for me. Also tried using a drinks can - punch is still mashing card on one edge. So frustrating and I'm loathe to buy another! Hope you get off work early to play. Anne x @ 40

  22. You never stood a chance with a Christmas card, it's way too early to even think of next Christmas. Try an Easter one :) Never heard of a corner rounder. Apart from the obvious, what does it do? Have a great week.

  27. Hi Julia, we all get days like that, for me it seems like months.....Have you tried using foil thru the cutter to see if it will sharpen blades. Have a goos day. Francesca #48

  29. I am a bit tired of winter, and when I see your dark window.... Makes we want to turn into a bear and go back to sleep. But we have to go out into the cold and walk little Luna - she enjoys the winter!
Looking over your desk I have one question: what is this flat pink thing on the window sill, it has a hole in the front.

  30. Good morning Julia, lovely to see your busy desk.
Punches can normally be sharpened by punching through some kitchen foil.
Many blessings to you from Angela in @ #52 this week.

  33. We are "load shedding" and have no power for 2,5 hours...fun and games I tell you! So late to the desk party today!

  34. Hi Julia, shame the cards not doing what you want, I do think the design looks great.Love the stickles holder, I think I need one!The tin foli trick works sometimes, I find it helps if you use a thick, good quality one. I had to buy some Baco-foil especially for it- I tend to be a Poundland girl for foil usually! I hate to have to say it, but I don't think we will be coming to the crop after all- Dougs sister has chosen that day- she had a whole year to chose from-to get married. The one day in the year so far we had something planned, blast her. Huge Hugs, Shaz xxx

  35. The Stickles holder grabbed my attention too. I have shown what I use in a couple of my posts. I tend to store things off my work surfaces to allow me to make more of a mess over a larger area!! :) Hope Mr. Dunnit can fix the corner rounder for you. Happy WOYWW

  36. Also doing Christmas cards throughout the year? I had good intentions of doing that and now I've put away the Christmas stuff I know it's not gonna happen.
    I like your stickle holder.

  37. Does Mr. Dunnit sharpen your corner rounder? If so, how? Does it work with punches too? Anyway, I may need to do some research on that one for future reference. Blessings!

  38. Aarrrghhhh.. tools that don't work right can be so frustrating! It reminds me that I should sharpen my scissors... And Christmas cards? In February? Really? Boy, you are early!!! Hope your mr. can fix the rounder for you! Love from Holland, Marit #62

  39. Love the stickles holder. Wish I had counter top room to that with mine. Yep I agree with Robyn above, a couple of chomps thru tin foil (aluminum foil) should sharpen the chompers. If I'm chomping a lot of cards I'll use the foil before I put the chomper away. Keeps it ready for next time. Have a wonder day. Hugs and Happy WOYWW! Nan G #63

  43. I think I was suffering from the poor light (early morning) speed (on my way to class) photography too. Oh no! The corner rounders go blunt? I think I might stop taking mine to class!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Have you tried chomping through foil? (Probably should have read previous posts to not repeat if so) I havn't tried it, but it's been touted as a fix. And otherwise, do you like that style? I thought it would be too unwieldy to use consistently. And again, thank you for showing your stickle holder a year ago---or so! Took a while to find, but it is a godsend! Have a great week.

  47. Hello!

I have been working on Valentines and making some 3 times before I get what I want, so understand the frustration! But if the final card is what we want then I guess the time is not wasted. :<) I love Stickles - it something I put on my "Can't Do Without" list.

Wishing you a productive and happy crafting day!

  49. Hi Julia, I know exactly what you mean about the ready readers. I have just had to upgrade to the blind as a bat strength for close work, fed up of not being able to see the measurements on my ruler! Glad it's not just me who has a great idea that doesn't always work out.

  50. I think our desks are rebelling against being photographed first thing in the morning. I couldn't get a good shot of my desk either--weird lighting, too quick, lousy photographers... whatever. It is what it is. Lots of potential things to play with on your desk. Or to just stare at and daydream. Your preference.

  53. I think maybe it is a seasonal thing...make a valentine instead of a Christmas idea? You are probably still tired of all the Christmas drama so save it til next year lol. I was too ..blah...to even take a photo or write a post today...but you can' keep me from oggling others desks!

  54. All I can see is you should see my desk!!! I seem to be on my woolly project kick at the moment. Well, when you see my desk you will understand that I just had to surrender!

  55. I feel your frustration on needing a new level of thickness to the readers, it is most unpleasant to realize that you can stay in the lines of tiny details to color because you can't see the blasted things! Do find some time for yourself and see if chomping on some tin foil helps the cutter..
