So the good people at Baker Ross sent me some rather yummy hanging stars in papier mache and some decopatch papers to play with. It took me about half an hour and only one and a half sheets of the three sheet paper pack to cover the stars. Then I hung em up for a thorough drying. I don't know if you believe in Christmas miracles, but here's a tiny one: I had to take a gamble on the glue I used...I don't have much wet glue and the bottle I settled has shed it's label - long ago. I gambled on it being a decopage glue that I'd had in my shop kit in another lifetime. And it appears that it was, the papers held and the glue dried without leaving a trace. The real miracle is that I've since marked the bottle to avoid future gambling!
So then I felt the need for a bit of twinkle. And you saw on WOYWW 286 that I was waiting for the glitter to dry. I did blobs of Glossy Accents around the edge of each star and poured gold Glamour Dust over them. I could have used Stickles but I wanted the blobs to dry in dimension.
And they did! Hurrah! The stars are now ready and twinkly. They have 'built in' hangers so will make perfect tree decorations or hanging adornments. If they weren't destined for another job, these could very well have ended up dotted around the house on door handles.
For now, they hang in a twinkly mass on a door handle that gets a lot of sunshine. When it shines. If all goes to plan, they will be fully employed by the end of the week. And you know me well enough to know that if it doesn't go to plan, you may never see them on this blog again! And just to reassure you - that particular cobweb is on the outside.
Love the dimension of the glitter around the edges. Perhaps you will take us on a star hunt once you have put the decorations up.

Now you've got your glitter on, go twinkle that cobweb :) x
ReplyDeleteNice, I am with you on the glitter front. Mine tends to be in a takeaway container in a drawer and I just forget its there until I usually reach for it in November!

Great crafty idea and that cobweb just finishes it all off!
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely. They'd look good as a garland.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good start to the week. Sue
I'm with Chloes Nan- that cobweb definitely needs a makeover! Love the stars- GOLD glamour dust? I may just NEED some of that. Hugs, Shaz xxx
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought that reflection was a fan...then I wondered what you would need such a big fan for in a country where is it cold for longer than it is hot...so I looked closer and I saw it is a spiders web! A perfect one at that! Love the stars! Glad you marked the glue now!
ReplyDeleteI am totally with you on the glitter... it never occurs to me to actually use it all year except at Christmas... when sparkly stuff seems appropriate!!
ReplyDeleteLove your stars, they have turned out beautifully so I am sure we will see them again... hint hint...
You left a comment on my blog about the envelope parcel I made for my friends Mum for her 80th... you said she would keep the envelope... how did you know? I swear she loved it more than the rather fetching scarf that was inside it! LOL Hugged it to her chest and told me she was going to keep her letters in it.... so guess who is now making her an envelope book for Christmas to keep her letters in? Still don't know how you knew...
Same here, never use glitter except at Christmas - and haven't even used it now, this year! and my cards are done (well, made; not written of course, that would be stupidly organised!!) I love love those stars - they are gorgeous! they will look fabulous adorning whatever you adorn them on (the tree, I imagine) but for now, they look great on the handle in the sunshine. love the idea of twinkling up the cobweb!
ReplyDeleteIn MY world this is not a cobweb. It is a spider web. Only spiders can make that symmetrical beauty. Of course, the stars are even prettier sitting in front of it.
ReplyDeleteI am not much of a glitter gal, but I may break it out as Christmas draws near. Yours is absolutely PERFECT. Mine would never look that good, I don't think. Regardless, I am sure we shall see these beauties again, if only briefly.
They came out gorgeous! Loose glitter makes me twitchy and itchy but you done did good. And glitter is for strippers. Or that's what hubby would say (called stripper dust).
ReplyDeleteas a year 'round glitter girl I say BRAVO!
