The thing about being on holiday is that in some tiny way, you can be someone you're not, really. I mean, on a normal day in Spain, I shower and dress for supper! This is not normal behaviour at home...sorry to anyone that thinks we're all living in some sort of Downton Abbey style. We aint!
I'm a gin girl, and this summer, it's trendy to have Blue tonic. I love that! It's called Nordic Blue and I would love to find it here. (It's probably been sold here for yonks and I'm just so un-trendy in my real life that I don't know about it.)
Of course, my camera phone photography makes it all look a bit more garish than it really was..but you get the gist. As you may know, my holiday was interrupted by a stay in hospital - I'm not going to go on, but I wanted to show you this to illustrate my trendy holiday persona. On the morning that I was discharged, I was allowed breakfast, and the lovely lady that delivered the meals was quite excited about my tray. Between us (my limited but expanding Spanish, and her brave and limited English), I understood that she had an English treat for my breakfast. Tea!
Of course, manners and deficient language skills prevented me from telling her that the smell of tea first thing in the morning normally makes me want to smack someone, I loathe it. (But only first thing...it/I'm, OK after that!)
And manners and joy at the lady's efforts to make me happy meant that whatever was in that mug, I was going to drink it. So colour me trendy...it was Green Tea. It was the first warm drink for 6 days and it was absolutely horrid. But I drank every drop. And when the lady came back for the tray, we talked about English breakfast and she seemed very happy that I'd enjoyed the tea gesture. And I did really. Because it made my holiday persona so trendy again. And because the delivery of it was so nice. And when she'd gone, I reverted to un-trendy old woman type and gulped down that apple juice as though it was the first flavour I'd ever tasted. Not ungrateful, just not on trend. I'm an English- Breakfast-Tea-at-about-5.30pm-please type.
Linking with Elizabeth for T stands for Tuesday. It's been a while!
Hello and Happy T Day! I love this tea story. What a sweet gesture to give you tea and how kind of you to drink it all while not enjoying it. So funny and nice at the same time, had to smile. Sorry to hear you were in the hospital and hope all is well now.
ReplyDeleteThat first drink looked pretty.
Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day.
Never seen blue tonic but it looks like it would be fun to use. I enjoyed your tale of tea in the hospital and admire your spirit. Speaking of hospitals, hope you are well now.
ReplyDeleteDarla
I'm smiling at your post Julia becaƻse how ever a nice gesture it was I couldn't have drank a drop...tea actually makes me physically sick, just the smell of it makes me heave :-)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Annie x
Shame to spend time in the hospital but especially on vacation...hope you are feeling tip top now!
ReplyDeleteYour tea story is very sweet...
so nice of you to be gracious and thoughtful with all you had going on...
politeness goes a long way and we could use more of it in our society these days!
Wishing you a Happy T Day
and
a Happy July

That's too bad about the hospital stay esp while on vacation. Hope all is good now.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday!
what a sweet story about the breakfast tea...and quite courageous of you to drink it despite not liking it! :) hope you are much better now and drinking your beverage of choice on your own schedule!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet of you to respond in kind to that lovely gesture :) I hope you are feeling fine after your hospital stay.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at your tea story. At least it was drinkable - just about. I have had tea out here that ranges from, luke-warm brown water, to fairly hot tea with hot milk from the coffee machine in it. The worst offering was in a cafe just outside Lorca, and consisted of a tea bag floating in a cup of cold milk! I'm happy to say that I have educated the bar staff in our village, to make something that vaguely resembles an English cuppa. (One place on Mojacar Playa gives me a pot of hot water, a small jug of milk and a box of PG tips tea-bags - result - sort of). As a diabetic I try to avoid fizzy drinks and too much alcohol. and I don't drink coffee at all, so I have lots of tea every day, and I would have definitely appreciated your breakfast offering, even though I wouldn't chose green tea!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are well on the mend now. Kate xx
what a bummer to have to be in the hospital during vacation. I do hope you're perfectly well now. That was such a very kind gesture you made by drinking that tea! You def. deserved that blue tonic!
ReplyDeleteWhile others may be offering you condolences, I'm actually laughing. SO LIKE YOU to show such kindness, even though tea early in the day sounds really unimpressive to me, too. Of course, that "breakfast" looks pretty sad, too. I bet you went from a well rounded lady of a certain age to a woman who had lost a LOT of weight.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you are feeling better, at least. BTW, I believe I read on another blog the WOYWW interview has now hit the post.
Ha ha great story and how lovely .... Green tea very posh. Glad it wasn't me I cant drink normal tea ..... Ever.
ReplyDeleteI fell in love with handyman because he saved me from drinking tea when he introduced me to his favourite elderly aunt and I was too shy to say no
Janet
Where can I get blue tonic like the sound of that
ReplyDeleteHi Julia- the bit about showering and getting dressed for supper made me laugh- we do that on holiday too! Almost civilised, lol. Don't happen at home here either. I agree the blue tonic looks interesting- I shall be browsing Tesco next time we go in. Your tea story made me laugh, what a lovely gesture( on both sides) that was. Hope you are feeling more yourself every day, Hugs, Shaz xx
ReplyDeletelove the blue tonic and very brave to drink teh tea i'd have somehow hidden it.not sure how!.. hope you are now well on the road to recovery best wishes Andrea x
ReplyDeleteHope you find someone selling the Nordic Blue.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the tea:)
So funny AND so nice of you to play along even when you didn't feel well. Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteHi Julia i am with you give me coffee any day but it has to be barista coffee not that instant crap, gosh that stuff makes me want to puke. Tea, now I can drink it but only when decent coffee is unavailable. Good to see you on the mend.
ReplyDeleteHugs Eliza
What a great story - I'd have loved to see her face if you'd asked for your normal coffee!! Not heard of or seen blue tonic before, it looks very refreshing. I need to try it, just to check... will have to go google it!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely gesture. I like green tea, but probably not for breakfast.
ReplyDeleteHope you are continuing to improve, but not too fast if it means you have to go back to work before you feel ready to.
Bless you for all you do for us deskers.
Chris
Sorry about the stay in hospital, but your story is hilarious :) tea is awesome----after a couple of cups of coffee to start the day right! Your drink looks very inviting, love the colour :)
ReplyDeleteHappy t day, take care.
You can keep the Gin but that blue tonic looks interesting - I could have a blue V&T.
ReplyDeleteGreen tea...yuck! I really can't stand the stuff. Give me a good cup of coffee anytime.
Hope you are now well on the mend and if the weather behaves you should be able to make the most of a bit of sun right here at home.
Toni xx
Enjoyed reading your tea story. Love your version of 'breakfast-tea at 5:30 pm'
ReplyDeleteHave a great week
I'm glad you were polite and enjoyed the tea for her benefit--LOL! That was really sweet of her. Not a place to be on vacation. Hope all is well now.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-Day! :)
Kindness sets a lovely table! Thanks for modeling for us!
ReplyDeleteSuch colourful beverages lol. I usually discover something way to early or way to late to be trendy to the point. I frighten teenagers telling by telling them I had clothes "just" like that 40 years ago lol. I'm so glad you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI do Downton Abbey marathons and after it, I start to talk in the manner of. I suppose I sound awful, but it's nice to pretend! Sorry your tea was horrid. My sister-in-law just came home from Myanmar and brought home their "milk tea". It's a 3-in-1 with condensed milk!!! patsy
ReplyDeleteI've never seen or heard of blue tonic, you really are "on trend".
