What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 236

Because I am lithe and nimble and have an excellent memory for days and dates, I hopped off my stool and photographed my desk late on Tuesday night.  You can tell..it's very dark outside (although that doesn't change after about 4.30pm!) and it's a long shot because there's so little craft work going on.  I'm doing bookwork as you can see - trying to do it as it arrives and needs doing rather than spending the holiday catching up.  We'll see! Doesn't it look horribly untidy.  Oh well.

So as not to disappoint - several of you commented last week at the glimpse of my corner shelves.....here then, in their glory:

My wood mounts.  I love 'em and even in this untidy and pared down state, I will never get rid of any more, not stop opting for them whenever I can!  My clear stamps are in the blue drawer unit that shows just under my desk in the first photo. I don't hate them, but I certainly don't love them.
So come on then, share your workspaces, share your Christmas craft works and all their glory.  I know you're busy, bit there's time for this.  Really.  Ho Ho Ho.

  1. I couldn't believe I was first this week. I wasn't even hardly ready. But here I am at my kitchen table, showing what a nice difference the ink you sent me makes. You were right. That is better ink for stamping on paint. However, I'm not sure it made me a better stamper (grin).

I have to agree with you on wood mounts. I really prefer them. I thought it was just me, because everyone I know is getting rid of their wood. Not me. I like the way they stamp.

Seems the craft desk is overflowing with business forms, so I'll let you get back to it. Have a great week, and thanks again for the ink and stamp!

  2. Oh how I love that shelf full of stamps! Especially since I have just a box of stamps pretty much. And good idea getting the bookwork out of the way so that you can spend the holidays having fun fun fun!! Hugs! Sandy Leigh #10

  10. There is something about wood mounted stamps isn't there? They are substantial, easy to display and so inspire me to use them, but they take up so much room. I think my issue is I need to stop buying stuff, but what fun is that? So I have a few on the window sill and rotate them into the storage containers. I do find tho, no matter what the mount I go back to the same ones time and time again.
Best of luck with the paper work....I find the older I get the more I resent having to do it. 'Course my business is in an office, so I guess I do enough there that by the time I get home I would rather do just about anything else. You know, like surf the net....tee hee.
Have a good week oh florist in the making.

  11. You snuck in while I took a nap. To each his own. Your love of the wooden noted stamps, while I am totally concerted to clear stamps. I love creating a scene..... .. on a card, that is, and clear stamps make that so much easier. I am actively clearing out all but the bare minimum of my wooden ones, and will probably remove them from their mounts as well. Like everything else in life, it would be very boring if we all liked the same things. I am in awe, however, at how tidy those corner units are. Have a great week. xx Maggie #23 ish

  12. Oh, why aren't paperwork and housework and the like outlawed during the month of December?! Your display of the wooden shelves is awesome! And I am glad to see your resident carpenter made the best use of the corner and made you happy in the process! I love my wooden stamps, too, and have my 300 or 400 favorite that I can't part with, pig that I am. At least you have a decent amount! Have a great week, Julia, and thank you for another WOYWW!! 13. Thanks Julia for showing the corner shelving...I love all your BIG wooden stamps. I prefer to have mine OUT so I can see them. Something happened on my first try #26...can be deleted.
And darkness comes way to early for me. There always seems to be so much odd stuff you HAVE to do before the holidays. Have a great week, Santa will be here before we know it.

  17. Ooh nice snoop Julia...I'm afraid that I love clear stamps more than wood mounted ones. Of late though, I have been purchasing a few more wooden ones, so maybe I'll become a convert. Cx #35

  19. I love the wood mount stamps too but I got rid of most of mine 2 years ago, I kept just my favorites. They take up so much space! I'm not a big fan of the clear stamps but I do like the rubber stamps on cling foam, almost as good as a wood mount but much easier to store.

  24. I love my clear mount stamps as much as you love your wood mount! For me, it's about space and weight - big issues when you're a military family that moves every couple of years!!! Plus I love how they look on the shelf, and there's no dirty wooden blocks (OCD kicks in, ya know!).

Have yourself a fabby week! :D

  25. Thank you for sharing your stamp shelves, like you they are my favourites - I cringe when I read of people taking the mounts off to save space! Still each to her own! Hope you get the paperwork done soon. Have a lovely week. Helen 24

  26. What a lovely lot of wood-mounted stamps! I have 5!!! It's really nice to have them on display because they look fabulous like that - I'd never thought about how attractive they would look on show. Thanks for a glimpse into your busy life as things get ever more hectic! Julie Ann #45

  27. Love all those wood mount stamps. I've reduced my collection recently, particularly some of the cheaper ones that never stamped that well anyway. I still couldn't part with them though so I separated the rubber and stashed them all away in a box.

  31. A great display of stamps there Julia. I must say I agree - I much prefer the wood mounted ones as well and usually buy them from SU, even though the unmounted ones are cheaper - but at least they have a wee box/case to store them in, so they can be piled up and look tidy!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I occasionally stick favourite UMS onto wood blocks so they can join the treasured displayed stamps. You should have plenty of offcuts in your business to do this. They do take space but my thumbs are up for wood mounted stamps. They are so much nicer to use and to drool over!
Get that paperwork out of the way and you'll enjoy the run up to Christmas!

  37. Fun shots today! First, I am loving your stool, it looks so cool (like a saddle to me. I spotted a calculator on the desk, and that freaked me out as I hate numbers! I really love your wood stamps and that unit to display and store them. I am with you, I adore my woods! I have a bunch of clear, but they will never replace the feel of my wood ones! Winnie#58

  38. I love seeing wood mount stamps displayed on open shelves like yours. Not a huge fan of clear acrylic stamps, but I do like unmounted rubber ones for their space saving properties!

  40. oh poor you having to do paperwork, but you're quite right to do it as it comes in of course - I tend to pile it up until the pile falls over, which is a sign that it's time to tackle it and then it's horrible! Maybe a new year's resolution ... I am very impressed with your stamp corner - wooden ones are so much nicer to look at aren't they? Annie #60

  41. Lovely mucked up desk Julia (said in the nicest of ways), and lovely corner cupboard. Isn't it funny how some prefer um's and some prefer mounted stamps. I go for um's every time, I cannot image storing all my stamps if they were mounted. But then again i do wonder why I keep all I have!

  50. Now I have this pic in my head of one Ms Julia lithely (is that a word) hopping of said stool! Eeek.....LOL yes, paperwork must be done when your self employed. Hope you have less of it during the holidays since you're working on it now. Love the shelves! Yea wood stamps do seem to stamp better than clear, tho the new cling mount red rubber are pretty good. Got rid of most of my wood, just no space to keep em. WOYWW hugs! Nan G #69

  51. Julia,

Good for you, I do have a small collection of wood stamps but prefer to use the CD containers and have them unmounted, this is a space thing, but there is still my favorites that I will never give up that are still wood mounted. Good luck with the paperwork, it is always good to start out with those thoughts. Happy WOYWW, sorry I am so late this week but I made it in the nick of time.

  52. I love those corner shelves! And I agree, while I have opted to purchase more unmounted stamps, as I just don't have much more room, and I can afford to buy more, I do so love my wood mounts!

Keep up with the paperwork (I can appreciate an ambitious goal) and have a great week.

  53. You know, the only thing that makes your desk look untidy is the paperwork, if it wasn't for that you'd be a neatnik this week! There seems to be more than wood mounted stamps creeping into your cabinet there? My desk is an oasis of calm this week, although I'm a bit like the proverbial duck under the surface.

  54. Not joining in today. Lack of Internet connection first thing this morning, unexpected arrival of the men installing our new woodburner and stuff to do in readiness for collecting our new car later. I have been crafting and will be taking a tour around some blogs. So many stamps. I have so few now that they fit in a small drawer with the inkpads that I decided were useful to keep. Ali x

  63. Love those corner shelves, Julia! Excellent storage space, and the wood block stamps look very decorative. I'm not a fan of them myself as they take up too much room, and I have unmounted all the ones I started out with, and put them on EZ Mount Foam but I do like the look of them en-masse!

Sadly my Dad died on Friday night. My hubby and I were with him at the end.

I am absolutely full of the most marvellous memories of him and we are struggling to decide what should go in the funeral service as there is just soooo much! I see that I have some of the same wood mounted stamps as you. They are nice, no doubt. I like the unmounted clear ones because they don't take up as much room. That doesn't stop me from buying a wood mounted stamp when I see one I like.
